Shadestorm's pov

Shadestorm woke to a voice calling outside the den.

"Wake up! The other leaders are waiting for you" Yawning beside her ear amused her.

"A few more minutes." He mumbled, and closed his eyes again. Someone burst in through the den entrance. It was Russetfur. "You will come right this instant!"

She interrupted her yelling when she saw the two cats curled together, both raising their heads sleepily.

An amused look entered the ginger deputy's gaze. "I see you've made up."

The ginger she-cat was laughing now, completely at ease despite her yelling just heartbeats before. "But the other leaders are still waiting!" She called over her shoulder before leaving the den.

...

She probably would've fallen asleep again if it wasn't for his next words. "I should go now."

Blackstar gave her a gentle lick on the ears and rose up. They padded out of the den, side by side. He still looked tired, and his pelt was ruffled from sleep.

"Have a good day. " Shadestorm told him.

"You too." There was a tired smile on his face before they parted.

As they went their separate ways, she heard a voice calling for her. "Where have you been? It's almost sunhigh!"

It was Tallpoppy, who trotted towards her, a cheerful look in her green eyes, so similar to Shadestorm's. Wonderful. Despite her thoughts, she just smiled a bit when her mother approached her.

"We're leaving for the pine forest soon. The kits will get to see Shadowclan's new territory!" She could almost see her eyes glowing with excitement.

"Yeah. It's pretty great." She mewed, her mind wandering. What will the new territory bring to us? And Tallpoppy noticed her inattentive gaze almost immediately this time. "Alright. Tell me."

"What do you mean?" Shadestorm asked, knowing exactly what she meant.

"You know what I mean. I saw you two returning to camp last night. Are you together now?"

Both of their whiskers were twitching with amusement.

"Don't stick your nose into my business." Shadestorm mewed. She wasn't quite annoyed, but not pleased either. Tallpoppy is such a gossiper. The elders den will never be quiet when she joins them someday. "You are impossible. But yes we are together now, I guess."

Tallpoppy's eyes widened. She let out a pleased purr. "I'm so happy for you!"

She just smiled shyly. But her eyes probably betrayed she was slightly fed up with her mother. But before Tallpoppy could start one of her long speeches, now probably about how their kits would be so cute, their conversation was interrupted by Tawnypelt. "We are starting to leave now."

As Tallpoppy found her way to her kits and gathered them up, Shadestorm saw Tawnypelt looking at her. "What are you staring at?" The gray she-cat asked. How doesgossip travel so fast? Probably every single cat in all of the clans knows about this already.

"Nothing." There was amusement in the tortoiseshell's eyes. But Shadestorm spoke first. "You are going to nag me about this too? Honestly, I thought we were friends."

Now they were both laughing.

"Me too. But I guess my curiosity is more important." Tawnypelt sighed, amusement glittering in the depths of her green eyes. But then a more serious look crossed her tortoiseshell face. "No, I'm serious. Are you more than friends with our leader? Him of all cats?"

"I won't deny anything." Shadestorm said mischievously. Her eyes were shining. Tawnypelt gasped, but there was a happy expression on her face. "I think we should go now. The rest of the clan is probably waiting. And congrats, by the way." The tortoiseshell she-cat mewed.

They started padding over to the cluster of Shadowclan cats, still talking cheerfully.

"Why did you always get everything first?" Her friend complained. Her tone was light, but Shadestorm could see her friend was serious. "What do you mean?" She asked, this time very confused.

"You became a warrior first, and now you have a mate. Meanwhile, nobody is even interested in me!"

A growl answered her statement from behind them. "And why do you think that is? Maybe because you betrayed Shadowclan by leaving us."

Rowanclaw said spitefully. Though Shadestorm could see something else in his eyes. Sorrow?

Maybe he is upset about Tawnypelt leaving then because he was assigned to help her feel at home when she first came here. He probably thinks he failed.

They had been quite close before the tortoiseshell left for the journey to the sundrownplace.

The ginger tom outpaced them, hissing quietly when he passed. And Shadestorm didn't have to look back at her friend to know her shoulders were slumped.

"He really hates me, doesn't he?" Tawnypelt whispered, looking crushed.

For the first time in her life, Shadestorm was utterly and completely wordless.

Blackstar's pov

.

.

As Shadowclan left their temporary camp behind, he let Tawnypelt take the lead. She knows this place better than the rest of us.

Russetfur was bringing up the rear, chatting with Cedarheart. The rest of the cats were talking quietly amongst eachother, steadily travelling towards the pineforest which would become their new home.

He was startled by a voice beside himself. "Hey. I was wondering if we could walk together?" It was Shadestorm.

"Sure!" He replied. They walked side by side in a comfortable silence, their pelts brushing from time to time.

Or, what would have been a comfortable silence if Dawncloud hadn't padded up between them and demanded in a curious tone; "Are you guys together now? Tallpoppy said so, but I'm not sure if I trust her about gossip."

It was times like this when the Shadowclan leader was not grateful for his former apprentice.

Oh, come on. Why does everyone keep bothering me about this? But he didn't say the thoughts out loud.

"Yes we are, actually.

Dawncloud looked exited, but she just asked; "Really?" Shadestorm shot an annoyed look at the pale she-cat. "Would I lie? And please, mind your own business."

Dawncloud looked offended by the gray she-cat's words and left them alone, shooting her a dirty look as she went.

"First Tallpoppy and Tawnypelt, now even Dawncloud."

She let out an exasperated sigh.

"Don't worry about it. They've probably forgotten it by the next gathering when Riverclan catches a big fish or something."

He said, understanding in his eyes. At that, she let out an amused purr. Her green eyes were warm.

But the peaceful converstation was cut off by Tawnypelt's exited words; "We are almost at the place I told you about!"

The Shadowclan cats quickened their steps, exited to finally find the place they could settle in for good.

And there, behind a slight hill was a hollow. There were brambles surrounding the clearing, and some bushes were in the middle of it. It was overgrown, but with a bit of work it would become a good place for a camp.

The cats let out triumphant yowls, but soon Blackstar raised his tail for silence.

"We'll settle here for the night. In the morning, when the patrols have explored the territory a bit more, we'll decide if we should stay here."

I hope we'll be able to stay here for a long time.

Shadestorm's pov

.

.

As the Shadowclan cats began to search for places to sleep, she caught the eye of a certain white and black tom. She padded over to him, and they mewed greetings.

"Where should I sleep?" She asked him, not quite sure what to expect.

And a faint smirk was on his face as replied; "With me of course."

She laughed in response. "In your dreams." But then her face went serious again and she leaned in, touching his cheek with hers. "Under that hazelbush looks great." She breathed before breaking away.

They walked over there together, and Shadestorm peaked in. It was a hollow space, and the roof looked secure. There was moss growing on the floor, and leaves were littering it.

It looked comfortable, and they settled in together. The two cats were laying side by side, pelts brushing and tails twined. She could hear their heats, beating in unison.

Shadestorm purred drowsily. "It's great we've finally found our new home."

Blackstar looked at her, his eyes soft. "It is. But I think it's much better that we are together now."

She pressed more closely against him, and he nuzzled her ear.

"Yeah."

The gray she-cat felt sleepy, and yawned. "I think we should go to sleep now."

"I guess."

As Shadestorm settled more comfortably, pressing her nose into his thick fur. "Goodnight. I love you."

He looked a bit surprised for a moment, but soon he replied; "Me too. Sleep well."

Everything about that moment felt so peaceful it was almost magical. I wish it all could be like this forever.
