Sorry I didn't post yesterday, I had to pack for a trip. But all of that is finished now, so I can focus my attention on the end of this story. I hope you've enjoyed this because next chapter is the last one unfortunately. But for now, on to the end of the climax.
CHAPTER 10
Love and Hate
Adaman felt cold chains keeping him upright and wondered where he was. He had no idea what had happened to him. The last thing he remembered was finding scratches on a cave wall and then…. Adaman's eyes shot open as he remembered what had happened. The Temple of Sinnoh was almost completely destroyed. There were only a few columns left standing, one of which he was strapped to by the wrists with chains. He tried to struggle free, but he barely started when a searing white-hot pain pierced through his arms, causing him to cry out. he looked up and saw that his bandages had been removed, leaving the blackened and sensitive skin exposed to the metal.
"Oh good, you survived" said a voice, devoid of any empathy or sanity. Volo's voice. "I was honestly worried for a second," the maniac continued, finally coming into Adaman's sight. "I needed you unconscious so I could bring you here, but I didn't expect you to actually fall off the mountain like that. I was also hoping to catch Rei as well, but you can't have everything I guess."
As Volo rambled, he wandered about the temple, placing different items at each of the surviving columns. When he reached the one Adaman was strapped to, he looked up at him and smiled. "But" he continued, "that foolish leader of the pearl clan should be on her way, hopefully with those two lovebirds. I think it's rather poetic that her idiocy that everyone calls 'compassion' will be her downfall."
Before he could continue with his ramblings any longer, Adaman launched a kick at him. Volo dodged quickly and laughed. "I should have known," he chuckled maliciously, "You two are into each other as well, aren't you? I was hoping that would be the case, otherwise my plans wouldn't work." "Your plans involved me, Irida and Rei coming here together" Adaman called out angrily, "Is Kamado, or someone else, working for you?"
Volo laughed at this. "Kamado, working for me!" he guffawed, "No, no. I knew you'd be coming simply because Kamado is just so predictable. I need you three because you all have connections with the three creation Gods. But they could also be used to seal Darkrai away. So, it's just common sense to send them. And look, it appears I was right."
Volo was pointing towards the stairs leading up to the temple. Adaman turned, to see Irida striding up them with her hands firmly clasping a pokéball. Adaman was both very relieved and very panicked to see her there. She threw the pokéball, then brought out two more. Out came Glaceon, and the other two who's names escaped Adaman at the moment. Volo threw out Arcanine, Lucario and Spiritomb to counter her.
But their fight had barely begun when Irida suddenly froze in place. She tried to move but couldn't. Volo grinned again. "Stun spore spray," he explained, "You like it? It's something I invented recently. Don't worry it'll wear off after 5 minutes, but by then, the rest of my plans should arrive." Then, he picked Irida up like she was a cardboard cut-out and shackled her to the column next to Adaman. And with that, he resumed his pacing, keeping an eye on either the stairs or the sky.
Roughly 20 minutes later, Rei showed up. he was alone, but he had a look of utmost hatred on his face. "Volo!" he yelled. Volo turned, a look of triumphant glee all over his face. Volo walked towards Rei and began spouting more nonsense about how the world needs to be reset. But while he did, Adaman felt something brush passed him. He turned to see that Akari had snuck up around the back of the temple. "Akari!" Adaman whispered. Akari turned, then snuck over. "Those boxes have stun spore ready to spray on Rei. Do him a favour and break them." Akari nodded and crept over to them.
Adaman expected her to do some fancy crafting technique to quietly break them. Instead, she simply picked one of them up, and threw it on top of the other, breaking them both instantly. Volo turned around, surprised, and when he did, Rei used the opportunity to summon Arceus to him. Volo turned back around and called Darkrai. When he did, Akari used that time to free Adaman.
When he was freed, Adaman immediately hunched over and nurtured his blackened wrists. When Irida was freed, she immediately rushed over and embraced him. Then pulled out spare bandages and wrapped them around his arms. "Good thinking bringing these" Adaman remarked. "Thank you," Irida replied, "I just thought to bring them at the last minute, as a just in case, you know?" Adaman thought she said that last part rather fast. And her face blushed a bit.
Once Adaman was bandaged up, he slipped behind a column, and began to reform the connection between him and Dialga. Irida did the same, but with Dialga. When they were done, they leapt out from behind the pillar, just in time to see that Rei was beginning to struggle against Volo. Akari desperately leapt onto Volo's back in an attempt to distract him. He had Darkrai pick her up and throw her off the mountain.
The scream that left Rei's lips as this happened was deafening. Rei's face became a mask of fury and hatred, and he leapt on top of Volo and started pummelling every inch of the psychopath he could reach. Darkrai wasn't quite solid yet, meaning he was still only halfway between the worlds, but he was still able to interact with this one. He reached out to pry Rei off of him. But before he could, Arceus interrupted by beginning the process to send Darkrai back to Limbo. Dialga and Palkia joined in.
A portal began to open behind Darkrai and started pulling him towards it. Just as it did with Adaman's great uncle, Darkrai reached a dark hand out to clasp Volo. Only this time, because both he and Rei were tussling on the ground, it grabbed both of them and started pulling them towards it. Adaman ran up and began to try and pry Rei away, but in the process, his arms began to sear with a burning feeling. But he ignored it and carried on.
But at that moment, the screech of a Braviary came from below, as Akari swopped up on one. She ordered it to dive, and sliced Darkrai's arm in half, releasing Rei and Volo. Darkrai regenerated the arm, then grabbed Volo again and started pulling him towards the portal. Volo desperately clasped onto Rei's sleeve as he was being pulled, but Rei was able to struggle free.
But as he was being pulled, Adaman's arms suddenly started to hurt. Volo noticed this and smiled. "By doing this, you are sealing every molecule of Darkrai from this world," he yelled maniacally. "If he's gone, you will die Diamond Leader!" Irida gasped at this and turned to look at him. "He was sealed away before," Adaman called back, and I'm still alive."
"But that's because there's a small bit of him inside of your arms," Volo replied, his voice rising in panic as his skin began to blacken like Adaman's arms. "If that's gone, it'll do something to you. In fact, I think it'll kill you!" Adaman ignored this and gave Dialga some of his own strength to keep this going. As Darkrai disappeared through the portal, Adaman's arms were blinding him with pain, and his sight was starting to waver. As the dark pokémon completely vanished through the portal, Adaman fell to the ground.
The last thing he saw and heard was Irida panicking and tearing up over him as she shook him, trying to resuscitate him, and Volo maniacal, fearful laughter as the vanished through the portal, crystalizing entirely black in the process. Adaman allowed himself a small victory smile before he blacked out once again.
The next chapter is the conclusion to this story. But unfortunately, this series will have to go on a break afterwards. The next fandom I've got planned for this series is Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. But I haven't finished that game yet so that'll have to wait. In the meantime, keep an eye out for anything else I write. So, I'll see you whenever I upload the final chapter, and then whenever I get around to actually finishing Shining Pearl.
