Hi! Welcome to, or welcome back to one of my AGGGTM oneshots. This is in celebration of our very own Pip's 22nd birthday, on February 28th 2022.
Enjoy!
She woke up to pots and pans. The first thing she heard as a legal adult, pots and pans.
"Wake up, Pippo! It's your birthday!" Josh entered and jumped up and down on her.
She covered her face with a pillow. "Joooooshhhh, get out, It's too early!" she said.
She heard the easy laugh of her father
"Never too early Pickle! Wakey wakey. I don't think Ravi would have liked to wake up early, only for you to stay in bed."
Pip sat up.
"Ravi's here?"
Victor nodded.
"He couldn't miss the opportunity of free breakfast," Her mother said, leaning against her door frame
She stepped out of bed, nearly tripping, her legs were still tangled in the sheets.
She walked out into the hallway, sidestepping her mother, leaving Josh standing on her bed and her dad sitting on it.
"If you're going downstairs, you might want to look at yourself before you see your darling pancakes." Her father called out, batting his eyelashes.
She rolled her eyes. But she should probably brush her hair, and her teeth too.
"Ravi!"
She threw herself into his arms, after walking down the stairs. Her hair had been pulled back into a bun, a few tendrils slipping out near her ears.
She was still wearing her pajamas, blinking aggressively so her eyes would adjust to the morning light streaming through the windows, specks of dust floating around in the luminescent beams.
"Hey there, trouble."
She laughed as she set her head into her spot, the one between the base of his neck and his shoulder.
"Now," he pushed her back by her shoulders.
"I didn't wake up at 6:30am just to go hungry." He sniffed, staring into her eyes. "I want some pancakes."
After having breakfast (Pancakes and bacon, Ravi was somehow happier than she was) Pip had gotten dressed and went to school, because apparently school wasn't optional.
Ravi was taking her out tonight, after she had dinner with her family. He wouldn't say where. Because he knew how much she hated surprises.
"Please, Ravi. Just tell me! It's not that important." She said, waving her hands around.
Ravi smiled.
"But you see, Sarge, it is that important, because I know that it annoys you." He said, tapping her on the nose.
She rolled her eyes as Ravi pulled into the school parking lot.
He stepped out of the car and walked around to her side, opening the door with a small bow.
"Go on, Queen Fitz-Amobi. Your kingdom awaits." He shut the door with another small bow.
She snorted and shouldered her bronze rucksack.
"Fare thee well, Sir Ravi." She curtseyed as she started walking off to administration.
"Oh no you don't!" Ravi grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
"Have a good day at school," He pressed it into her forehead.
She smiled.
Ravi had insisted that she be blindfolded.
So there she was, sitting in the front seat of his car with a bandana tied around her eyes.
"Please Ravi, just tell me where we're going."
She could feel the smirk radiating off of him.
"No can do, Sarge. Now stop asking, or I'll have to tape your mouth too."
A smug grin spread across her face.
"Yes, master."
She could hear his mouth fall agap. "Shush," he said.
Pip smiled.
They finally got to wherever he was taking her, he opened her door.
"Finally," She said, reaching behind her head to untie the blindfold.
Ravi grabbed one of her wrists
"Not yet, small bear."
Pig sighed, exasperatedly.
"Ravi, please! We're here, can I please just take this off."
He lifted Pip up, his arms clasped around her knees and she shrieked.
"Ravi! Put me down!" A giggle bubbled up out of her throat.
"Get ready, Sarge."
"Ravi! What are y-" She cut herself off as he placed her down.
But she wasn't on the ground.
Her legs dangled freely underneath her, no ground in sight. Or, well, touch.
"Ravi! Ravi? Ravi, where are you?" She frantically asked, her seat swaying underneath her.
But seats don't sway?
She put her hands down and felt around. Seats weren't normally rounded either. And they were normally a lot less narrow.
And it felt like wood, the surface raised and dipped.
"Ravi! Ravi, why am I sitting on a branch? Get me down!"
The branch shook violently and sagged slightly.
"Relax, Sarge." He told her, suddenly sitting beside her.
"Ravi, I swear to god-" He cut her off.
"Sarge, do you want me to get this blindfold off or not?"
She quickly shut up.
She felt Ravi's hands lightly fiddling with the knot at the back of her head, then the blindfold fell off of her face, and she sucked in a breath.
The sun was setting over a snowy field, the snow ablaze with milky winter light.
Ravi must've seen the look of pure wonder on her face, because he was smirking.
He held out a small blue box, only just fitting into his two palms.
"Happy birthday, Sarge."
Pip took the box in her own hands, and opened it.
It was a necklace, with a heart pendant. On one side of the heart, an infinity loop was interlinked with it.
She could feel her eyes glaze over as Ravi offered to put on her.
She never wanted to take it off.
She wanted to keep it forever.
She wanted to see it on her collarbone every day, and know that one thing was pure in this world.
When the truth slipped between the jagged edges of confusion and deception, one thing would stay genuine.
Between all the black and white, and the grays, one thing would always shine with colour.
So they stayed like that, perched in their tree branch, absorbing the light, so they could use it when they needed.
Because the one thing that would never change was how much she loved Ravi.
When things got dark, his smile was a beacon and she always found her way again.
Because he was her light, and she could get extremely scientific about what light is.
But this light, her light, was pure, and that was all that mattered.
