Elisa got the call from her mother as she was already walking to her car to return home.
Moments later, she was rushing across Manhattan with her lights and siren blaring. Her mother had promised to alert Doctor James, the Eyrie building's resident physician, and let him know that they may be incoming with a patient.
Elisa came to a screaming halt in front of her condo building, and hurried inside. When the occupants of the elevator threw her a disgruntled look, she flashed her badge and ordered everyone out.
Once the car was empty, she swiped her security badge over the hidden sensor that would direct the car to go to her penthouse floor.
She got there, and fumbled with the keys, almost dropping them in her hurry. She opened the door to find a worried Nayeli standing in the living area and pointing to Skyler's room.
"She's in her bed, mom," Nayeli said.
"Stay here," Elisa ordered, "And wake your brother up."
"I'm up, mom," Liam said from the stairs, looking confused. "What's going on?"
"I don't know," Elisa said, "But I think Skyler's sick. Grandma's on her way, just in case I need to take Skyler to the castle. Can you and Nayeli hang out here for a bit until your grandmother gets here?"
"Yeah," Liam said, throwing an arm around Nayeli's shoulders. "We'll be fine, mom."
Elisa nodded, then hurried to Skyler's room. She took one look at Skyler's face and made a decision. She picked up her phone and called the Eyrie's medical floor.
"Doctor James," Elisa said. "I need to bring Skyler in…"
"I already spoke to Diane," he said. "I have made arrangements for a private medical transport to come and help get her here. They should be there in a few minutes."
"Thanks," Elisa said, hanging up. She brushed Skyler's hair from her flushed face. She owed this woman more than she'd be able to repay in one lifetime, especially since she'd saved her children… on multiple occasions… and was still willing to stay and help care for them now.
There was a buzzing sound, and Liam hurried to answer it.
"Mom, the ambulance is here," he said. "They're on their way up now."
"Okay," Elisa said, getting to her feet. "I need you and Nayeli to go upstairs for the time being."
"Alright," Liam said, nodding soberly.
As her children hurried up the stairs, Elisa hurried to the door to help guide the EMTs inside.
