"Is she going to be okay, mom?" Nayeli asked Elisa.
"Doctor James thinks so," Elisa said, tiredly. She was currently sitting in a chair that she'd angled into a corner so that she could lean her head back and have some support in case she nodded off. She'd been going all night, into the wedding this morning, and returning home to a potential medical emergency.
Skyler was still unresponsive, but Doctor James could find no reason for it.
Considering their crazy lives, it could be any number of reasons, and only a small portion could be an actual physical cause.
The good news was that the fever broke almost two hours ago.
Elisa looked at the wall clock. It was nearly five o'clock in the evening now. The sun would be setting in about an hour, and the clan would wake.
Elisa was sincerely hoping that Skyler would wake up before the clan woke. She didn't want to have to tell Brooklyn that his wife had slipped into some kind of comatose state. The longer this went on, the more Elisa realized that it was a distinct possibility that She'd be having to break that news.
"Nayeli," Elisa said, "Why don't you go to the castle and get some rest. You've been awake as long as I have, and I know you've got to be tired."
"I'm okay, mom," Nayeli said. "I can nap in the chair, same as you if I get tired, and I will wake you up if Skyler wakes before you do."
"Okay," Elisa said, leaning her head back and closing her eyes.
Once her mother seemed to be asleep, Nayeli drew in a deep breath and took Skyler's hand in hers. She closed her eyes briefly, and when they opened again they blazed the bright green that showed her own fae heritage.
She reached out and followed the metaphysical line that would allow her to scan Skyler in hopes of finding what was wrong with her friend.
She found… nothing. There was no magic involved here that was not, at least in part, Skyler's own doing. There was a trace of one other, someone Nayeli didn't know, but it was faint enough that she couldn't follow it back to it's owner.
Nayeli let out a frustrated breath, and as her eyes dimmed from the magic, she was once more just sitting in a room with her mother and friend.
"Okay, Skyler," She said softly. "It's time to come back now."
