SomeDude xP chapter 4 . 23h ago
I kinda like this new format, (not a fan of how the comments section works on this site) dunno about others but yeah, im okay with it.
Also, im glad I have been able to help :D
You're doing interesting stuff with the story and im sure it will be one hell of a ride.
Yeah they could do a better job with the review area maybe make it to where we can directly review to people on their comments or something.
Huge help and I look forward to more from you as the story goes on.
Oh hell yes im going for a very realistic ZA without all the soap opera BS it turned into
As the sun rose on the crews fourth day on Hershel's farm the rooster cock-a-doodled waking me up. Looking around I saw Lori and Carl stir but stay asleep. Buckling the holstered pythons belt I quietly stepped out of the tent. Stretching I notice that im the only one awake. Smirking well might as well get the coffee going damn you rick, I was 17 before and never touched coffee because once you do you'll always need it to wake up.
Stirring the smoldering embers of the cook fire from last night with some scrap newspaper I coax it to life. Filling the five gallon pot with water from the water trucks spigot filling the coffee filter with the last of the coffee grounds we had. Looks like we will need to go on a dedicated supply run soon.
As I wait for the water to boil I pull out the map that Maggie had traded us the other day and on it was a town about two…maybe three miles from here I bet this is where lori sent glenn to get the birth control pills I think. Looking at the map a plan forms from the number of buildings there might be a lot of supplies including coffee.
Maybe we can get a party together either today or…. My thoughts were cut off as the pot of water started to boil.
Within a minute of slowly pouring the boiling water into the filter people smelling the rich aroma began waking up. First as usual was Dale followed closely by the Dixon brothers and then everyone started moving. Saving a cup for Lori we just sit around the fire waking up and enjoying the fresh java.
After a few minutes and everyone seemed awake "well, I have some bad news this is the last of the coffee we have." I announced
Everyone's wide awake eyes darted to me nodding I reassured them there wasn't any more. Heh amazing we found a dozen pound cans of various kinds of coffee while scavenging the houses in Atlanta and the traffic jam of cars.
"So once everyone wakes up fully I found a nearby town where we can hopefully restock on everything we need" I put out there.
As the Greens came up to join us for breakfast as they had since the second day we were here as they were handed a plate piled with grilled toast, hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and pancakes with a cup of hot coffee. I threw out "are there any wells or clean streams we can resupply from?"
Hershel nodded "sure we have several wells on the property your free to use any of them but number one."
Smiling we split into teams, Dale and T-dog go to well two with a pair of office space water jugs we had saved from the water truck in the big traffic jam the other three pairs also grab a pair of jugs me and Brandon go to well three and Amy, Andrea, Angelica and Jacqui go to the forth.
It wasn't long before dale and T were on the Walkie warning there was a walker in their well. By time we got there everyone was looking down the busted well cover.
Dale "looks like we have a swimmer."
Glenn "How long do you think it's been down there?"
Amy "long enough to become bloated and fishy"
Andrea "yeah, it's probably got gills."
Lori "we got to get it out god knows what it's doing to the water."
Shane "yep gotta come out."
T-dog "let's put a bullet in its head."
Let's put an end to this "whoa" me and Maggie said at the same time looking at each other she motioned for me to go first "from the looks it's standing on the ground instead of bobbing in the water so we have a ladder? We lower it down and the walker climbs up when it's clear of the well we poke it and watch the water come pouring out."
After some deliberation Maggie, Glenn and T-dog headed back to the farm to grab the ladder. And for the next twenty minutes we all chatted or enjoyed the warm farm fresh breeze. When they returned we lowered the ladder and threw a couple of stones to get its attention in no time it started climbing the steps up moving slow. As in neared the top we all backed away.
As it sloshed toward Glenn it never noticed Shane coming up behind it with a shovel and just like baseball. When he swung the shovel the things head made a wet crack falling away from the well cover. The gash in the walkers head sprung a heavy red tinted leak as it hit the ground.
Shane breathing heavy from the hard swing "well I think that works just fine"
Looking from the walker to the open well cover "yeah but I think it would still be a good idea to purify the water and the well itself just in case."
Everyone agreed even Glenn mentioned something about reinforcing the well covers so this didn't happen again.
Dude you don't even know looking back at the whole hair brained scheme lowering Glenn down with a rope to pull a water logged walker out yeah like that would of worked any kid knows wetness weakens anything that absorbs it…
Over the next two hours the water logged walker almost forgotten and lunch being made. The plan was made, Me, T-dog, Glenn, bob, and Brandon would be taking two stripped down Humvees and the tow truck into to town and check it over for anything we could use, and bring it back to the farm.
As the away team was heading out we were stopped by Maggie who begged to come along in the hopes of finding more insulin for Otis as well as some medication for the farms livestock. At my nod of approval she got into the tow truck with Glenn. The drive was slow going we passed Shane and Daryl leading their respective patrols.
The drive passed in less than an hour since the roads were empty of the dead and traffic of any kind. Pulling into the towns… I guess you could call it Main Street. If about a dozen buildings could be called Main Street. I remembered the show and the walker that almost killed Maggie… I pointed at Bobs Humvee and again at the first building Shruggs Hardware and…Bar booze and power tools sounds like home I chuckle to myself.
"Take these buildings Bob we will take the next pair." I call out to the others as me and T pulled past "Glenn, park in the middle between us and check the general store on the corner."
As we open the door quietly I remind T "keep your eyes and ears open clear the store first before grabbing stuff."
Nodding we look seeing there was nowhere to hide in the front we both head to the back, looking over the counter all we see is tossed boxes and bottles of various medications. However its not long before we find a body stirring on the floor.
"This is your one chance if your alive say something for be Stabbed." I call out after we had slung our rifles and unsheathed our Machetes. We wait for five seconds as the thing comes almost to its feet before I stab it through the side of the head dropping the walker to the floor.
Clearing the rest of the store and finding it clear we start loading hand baskets normally used for shopping with everything on the shelves and the floor, by time the store is completely empty we have over a dozen baskets and another handful of plastic Thank you shopping bags, Full of everything from child vitamins to condoms and pregnancy test. We also grabbed several mobility assist walkers and wheelchairs you never know. We had also found several medicines that required to be refrigerated at all times according to the sign, in a solar panel powered cooler mostly a variety of antibiotics and the prize five small bottles of insulin.
Coming out with the last load we notice the others have also started loading their finds into the Humvee and tow truck.
Brandon and Bob looks to of found a half dozen barrels of beer and four cardboard shipping boxes of various other liquors that would be useful for both medical and their original purpose of getting drunk. In the hardware store they had tied down on both the roof of the Humvee and the tailgate dozens of two by fours and sectional fences grabbing a dozen tool boxes filled with tools and whatever else that wasn't nailed down.
Glenn and Maggie came out of the house from the looks of it they had plenty of time to get it on from the shit eating grin on his face. But they still had the time to find a handful of saddles and sets of tack and other farm related supplies from the general store before searching other buildings. Finding some odds and ends, mostly food or other useful items for us or the farm.
"Any trouble guys?" I call out to them
"There were two walkers in the bar but other than that no issues." Brandon huffed back setting the boxes into the back seat of their Humvee.
"Really? There weren't any walkers in the general store or the other buildings we checked" Glenn said disappointedly.
With the three vehicles filled and the time sensitive meds in hand it's time to head back we all pile in and start heading back to the farm. On their way up the road they passed Daryl and Shane who had already returned from their patrols. The rest of the evening and night passed without incident. Shane and Lauren both took a bottle of booze and seemed to be getting friendlier as I went to join Lori and Carl in our tent.
My last thoughts as I laid next to Lori feeling the warmth of her skin was maybe a little bit of exotic is just what Shane needs to get over Lori…
