Happy Sonaze Week everyone!
I honestly wanted to do another theme week and have been super excited for Sonaze week. Honestly, Sonic was my middle school fandom and as an adult, I don't really ship anyone. Moreso there are ships in the Sonic series I can get behind and ships I am not fond of. Sonic and Blaze is one of those ships I can get behind.
I was also afraid to write this because I don't consider writing Sonic my forte, but I ended up having fun writing this.
So this is Day 1. I will see you guys tomorrow for day 2.
Disclaimer: Sonic belongs to SEGA and Sonic Team. This is just a fanfic written by a fan.
Sonic hated rain.
He was still the fastest thing alive but running in the rain made his quills and shoes wet. Although running in the rain was better than drowning in the ocean.
But Sonic was the wind on a bright sunny day, not the gales during a rainstorm. He figured there would be no rain in the kingdom of fire to keep him from running free. But the blue hedgehog had to admit that there would be no sunshine without rain.
The blue hedgehog just didn't want to think about it until it actually happened. Sonic was sitting under a statue, watching the rainfall in frustration as he waited for the storm to finally stop.
But with all this rain falling from the dark gray clouds, he questioned how a dear friend of his was handling the rain.
Blaze glared at the relentless rain with her amber eyes while a servant held an umbrella over her head.
The kingdom of fire barely had any rain, just the way she liked it because everyone in the palace knew that she hated the rain ever since she was a little girl. When she was very little, she even tried to aggressively attack raindrops with fire sparks. And the little princess learned the hard way that water was her weakness.
Her fight or flight response didn't go away when she reached her teens. She was going to do a fire ceremony today, but rain falling on her and her servants felt like a bad omen more than anything.
"Your highness, we should head back in," the servant pleaded.
Blaze turned her head and gave her servant her usually serious look.
"I wish to wait out the rain," Blaze said.
The servant gave a disappointed frown but reluctantly agreed.
"Yes, your highness."
For years and years, Blaze always felt different from the others. Water was considered the source of all life, but for Blaze, water always slowed her down and weakened her. And even if Blaze struggled with finding joy in life, the few rainy days she had seen made it harder to find a reason to smile.
Until she met a blue hedgehog who was a total goofball.
He was much faster than her and truly was the blue blur. But his two weaknesses were swimming and rain.
There was a somewhat lovely day when she and Sonic went to the beach with Tails and Cream, and their two younger friends proved to be better swimmers than them. Blaze had to fight her intimidation for the ocean to save Sonic from drowning. But there was a glow in Sonic's green eyes with how grateful he was that she was there for him when he nearly drowned. Blaze thought it was ridiculous how the blue blur's affection made her blush.
They spent the rest of the day relaxing on the sand and watching the gentle waves.
Sonic was relieved that he could find someone he could relate to, and Blaze was surprised as well. But they were also different.
Sonic was the wind, and she was a flame.
She always felt stronger around him.
But as the rain continued to fall, as if it refused to stop, she wondered where her fast blue friend was.
Sonic was always there in the blink of an eye. What if he was in trouble?
Blaze figured Sonic would stay inside the castle and take a ten-hour power nap.
The princess looked into the eye of the storm and the trees blowing in the wind.
Sonic could be in trouble, and she is the princess with a heart of flames. She wasn't going to allow the rain to extinguish her flames.
Without saying anything, she ran away from the umbrella and felt the rain pelt her face.
"Princess Blaze!" Cried the servant.
Blaze turned and felt the cool rain fall on her.
"I need to find Sonic. I will be right back," Blaze said before quickly turning and running away in the distance.
The servant blinked as the princess ran away.
"I understand, your highness."
The rain didn't stop as Sonic leaned against the statue and crossed his arms. He certainly felt resentful that his parade was being rained on. Rain that caused winds to become harsh and flames to burn out.
Sonic remembered.
Blaze wasn't even here to make the rain more bearable.
Another gale of wind howled and nearly caused Sonic to recoil.
Rain and water were always his Achilles heel, but it was also Blaze's weakness.
What if she was in danger?
And as Sonic looked deeply into the eye of the storm, he realized that not a single howling wind of a hurricane could stop the sonic wind.
Sonic started running in a blue flash. Water may have soaked his eyes, but he left waves as he ran at the speed of sound. And Sonic had to admit that was way past cool.
At a distance, Blaze used her inner flame to charge up her power as she ran. She may have not been able to reach her full strength, but she had proven that her inner light was still ablaze. And she thought it was amazing how her blaze red glow reflected on the puddles.
Running in the rain was certainly an endurance for both of them.
And as Blaze was doing her little endurance test, she nearly missed the twin waves at a distance. She stopped and used her hands to shield herself from the rain as she watched the twin waves. It was bizarre, and Blaze had to get a closer look.
Blaze quickly dashed to the twin waves and was about to ask for an explanation, but the twin waves shifted in direction and headed towards her.
"Whoa!" Blaze cried as she narrowly dodged the waves crashing in her direction. Yes, she was starting to tolerate and appreciate the rain. But if she ended up soaked to the bone with dirty rainwater, she would immediately take it all back.
Sonic skidded on his feet to stop. "Whoa! Sorry about that!" He cried.
Suddenly he met eyes with the rain-drenched lavender cat. Both of them were so surprised that they didn't speak, even if getting rained on continuously was starting to feel uncomfortable.
"Blaze!" Sonic finally cried.
"Sonic!" Blaze cried back. But before she could feel relieved, she crossed her arms and frowned at him. "Where were you?"
Sonic blinked rain out of his eyes and shook his ears before grinning at her as if they both weren't about to get sick from being drenched by rain.
"Oh, I just got caught in the rain, that's all," he said as he took a moment to scratch his quills.
Blaze sighed, but Sonic's smile was unwavering as he walked up to her. She had to turn away slightly to hide the blush on her face.
"I was wondering if you were safe during this annoying rainstorm," Sonic said.
For a moment, Blaze said nothing as her heart thumped, feeling the affection of the optimistic hedgehog. But then she furrowed her brows and lifted up her hands to unleash flames from her hands. Flames that were licked by hundreds of raindrops but still impressive and beautiful.
"No rain can stop my flames," Blaze declared.
Sonic chuckled. "You're right! Because your fire powers are always amazing!"
Blaze couldn't take any more compliments from this absolute dork of a blue hedgehog, and she felt a moment of weakness as her flames fizzled out. A bit ironic after Sonic spoke so highly of her.
"Anyway!" Blaze cried. She realized her voice was a bit shaky, and she took a moment to swallow. "I was worried about you!"
"Huh?" Sonic said.
Blaze wasted no more time and took Sonic's hand. "I was worried you were in danger!" She said with a serious glow in her amber eyes. She took a moment to look at the castle in the distance. "I think we should both take shelter from the rain now."
Sonic smiled. "Take the lead captain."
Blaze groaned at Sonic's blatant flirting, and both of them ran as they held hands. She did think it was cool how she and Sonic made waves as they went by. And Sonic finally started to notice a change in the clouds above them.
Sonic gave Blaze's hand a light tug, causing them to slow down a bit. Before Blaze could ask for an explanation, Sonic pointed up at the sunlight coming from the clouds.
"Blaze look!"
Blaze and Sonic stopped as the gray clouds cleared up from the sunlight, and the sky turned blue again. And then a giant rainbow appeared above them.
Blaze was breathless because, with all the sad rainy days of her life, she had never once seen a rainbow before. Sonic smiled at her as he moved in and picked her up bridal style, causing Blaze to blush.
"So I guess waiting through the rain was worth it," Sonic said as he gave her a loving look and cradled her gently.
But with a smirk and a surprise, Blaze released herself from Sonic's hold and lifted him up bridal style as she gave him a sly smile that made Sonic blush.
"Yes, the training I got was all worth it," she said.
Sonic chuckled before looking up at the rainbow that was still above them.
"Well Princess, you wanna reach the other side of the rainbow?" Sonic said.
Blaze flashed another adorable smile at him, a smile that Sonic could never tire of.
"Of course!" She said.
And with Sonic in her arms, she ran for the rainbow before it could disappear. Sonic released himself from her hold and took her hand as they used their combined speed to cross the rainbow. And when they reached the end, Blaze's flames and Sonic's wind changed into all the colors of the rainbow. They left their double rainbow everywhere as they enjoyed running together.
Braving rainy days was certainly worth running around a healed land.
