One of the best things about being the fastest thing alive was that Sonic was almost limitless. He could run free to any point around the world and be back with his friends in a blink of an eye.
And one of Sonic's favorite places to run around was tall mountains. Tall mountains that grew the most beautiful flowers. He had no shame admitting that relaxing among the flowers was one of the coolest things about life.
But through his own distraction, he realized he must have missed a mountain. Even if he liked to believe he traveled the world faster than anyone else. On top of a giant mountain was the biggest patch of lavenders he had ever seen. The lavenders danced in the wind and had the most wonderful scent.
Sonic closed his eyes and let the breeze and fragrance relax him, and while he meditated, a beautiful purple cat came to his mind. He smiled to himself and felt the wind was calling him back to the fire kingdom for a moment.
"This place is so cool," Sonic said.
The blue hedgehog started to run off the mountain and across the ocean in a blue light.
"Blaze will love this!"
Blaze sighed as she stood in the castle's garden.
The fire kingdom wasn't exactly known for flowers. The royal garden was so lackluster compared to other castles the princess visited.
But Blaze felt gardens were the least of a kingdom's worries. In this kingdom, the most important thing was the mystical flames that brought life and fortune to everyone.
Blaze would take no more frustration. Until she nearly had a heart attack from a particular blue blur meeting her face to face.
"Sonic!" Blaze cried.
Sonic a nonchalant grin to the frantic purple cat.
"Hey Blaze!" Sonic said as he gave her a peace sign.
Blaze took a moment to catch her breath and ground herself, but she realized she may never get used to Sonic giving her heart attacks regularly.
"You really should be more careful," Blaze said.
Sonic flashed her a grin before taking her hand. "I want to show you something."
Blaze blushed from his gentle hold and his smile that shined for her.
"Sonic, right now?"
Sonic winked at her. "We'll be there and back in a wink. You know that."
Blaze sighed. "Alright."
With that, Sonic picked her up bridal style.
"Close your eyes. When you open them, we'll be there," Sonic said.
Blaze did as she was told. She honestly didn't like Sonic picking her up bridal style like a damsel, but as fast as she could run, she was not fast enough to travel continents like Sonic was.
Blaze felt the rush of fast traveling with Sonic until they stopped, and Sonic set her down on her feet. Sonic had his arms around her, and Blaze kept her eyes shut. But she felt the need to stay still because the scent of lavender was so relaxing. Sonic also took a moment to close his eyes and take in the fresh scent of the wind and flowers.
With another gust of wind and delicate petals brushing their faces, they both opened their eyes, and Blaze was in awe over the giant patch of lavenders.
"Sonic, these are amazing!" Blaze cried.
Sonic hugged her from behind and nuzzled her shoulder. "Yeah, I had to show you all these beautiful lavenders."
Blaze felt so content seeing the beautiful flowers and being with Sonic. She wondered if she and the flowers weren't too different. How both flames and flowers thrived with the help of the wind.
And Sonic was certainly a big help bringing some flowers back for the royal garden.
