Welcom to my new story! I haven't posted in a while so I am glad to be back. First of all I would like to thank my Beta, Corvus Cortana, for editing this chapter. Second, updates will hopefully happen once a month. This story is going to be a long haul. Also if you don't like Dune / Shawdow and Bone / Star Wars, they won't play any part in the actual story line until way later. So if you are still interested in a Dark! Harry Story, you can still read this for a long while. I hope you enjoy and please review, I would love to hear your ideas and possibly put them into the story! Enjoy!
Chapter 1
The wind of the night was strong, young children could be heard making noise outside the small house. There were many children running up and down the street, looking for the best place to fill up their candy baskets. While some parents were busy dealing with their kids running around, a couple was sitting inside, looking at their beautiful twins. Lily and James Potter were watching their two toddlers crawl around on the floor, trying and failing to stand up. Lily looked outside the window with a wistful look on her face.
"I know Lil's," James said when he saw where his wife was looking. "One day, our kids will be able to play with the others and walk around, once this mother—"
"James!" Lily yelled while swatting him on the arm, "Even though children can't even talk yet, they do not need to be hearing certain words from your mouth. When they are older and I am far far away—you can teach them those words. But not until they are at least 35."
James laughed at his wife's antics, but that came to a halt when they noticed someone by the door. The stranger knocked three times, waited for one second, then knocked again twice, and the couple relaxed. James grabbed his wand and unlocked the door, letting the person in.
A younger looking man with black hair came in with green eyes, they both tensed. Lily because her husband and this man were sure to fight, and James in preparation of said impending fight.
"Why are you here Loki? I thought we had a deal." James growled out
"We did, and we still do. I am only here to replace the protection magic on my twin children."
Lily watched as James was quickly riled up, only to quickly simmer down. Harry and Alisa would benefit from the biological dad being here, something James couldn't deny. Loki looked at Lily as if asking for approval to approach his children and when she gave a small nodd, he slowly moved forward to the twins who sat on the floor, looking up at the adults in the room..
Loki knelt down to be closer to his children, whispering in an unknown tongue. . Neither Lily nor James understood what he spoke until there was a bright yellow ball of light encompassing the two children.
Loki stopped casting the spell and stepped back as the light began to disappear.
"All done. The children will be protected for the next year. I will be back around their birthdays, however they won't see me. I'll have a gift for them, though." Loki spoke as he smiled fondly to his children, but there was a deep ache in his heart. All he wanted in that moment was to take his children, as well as Lily and James to Asgard, where no mass murderer couldn't find them.
"Lily, James, please. Let me take you to-" Loki went to speak, only to be quickly cut off.
"No Loki. I'm sorry but we have a life here friends. We also have to help our friends and family defeat him," Lily said.
Loki hung his head down, knowing he would get nowhere else with the Potters and turned to the door. He looked back at his children one more time, then left the house.
When Loki left, Lily got started on James.
"Honey, you see how heartbroken he is about only getting to see the twins twice a year. If he could just see them—"
"No, Lily. Look, I will never be mad at you for what you did. You knew I couldn't have children but we agreed that they were going to be raised as mine. A small—no, a large part of me sees Loki as a threat. What if they like him more? What if he gives them better gifts or anything. I just—"
"I know James. I know. But one day someone will have to explain why they are stronger than any of their classmates." Lily insisted. James's paranoia was not unjustified. It was a fear many parents felt to the children they raised, which were not their own by blood.
James sighed as he plopped on the couch. They had had the disagreement many times before and each time it went unresolved. He looked at the ground, hands over his face with his knees propped upon his belows. He was in deep thought until he felt something touch his leg. James looked up and saw Harry, his round little hand clinging to his pant-leg in determination. A small smile came over his face as he picked up the small boy. He looked at Harry, before glancing at Lily, who was playing with Alisa. He was about to join them when another set of knocks echoed from the front door.
A second surprise visitor.
James put down Harry quickly, giving the boy an assuring hair ruffle before he grabbed his wand and prepped for a fight as he unlocked the door.
It was Dubledore who stepped through the threshold, and James remained tense.
"Hello, Dumbledore. What do you need tonight?" James questioned.
"Oh I just wanted to drop in and—"
"Yeah, that's likely. You just wanted to check up on us. Great story, tell us why you are really here." James huffed, hand tight around his wand when Lily finally looked up to the door.
Lily looked at her husband with an exasperated look on her face, but said nothing. The Potters were not exactly on good terms with Dumbledore at the current moment. He was a part of the very reason why they were in danger, letting the man they feared walk free amongst men. "Oh no reason, and anyways you won't even remember that I was here." The elder smiled, and his hand slipped for his wand with dangerous speed. "Stupefy!"
Lily let out a cry of shock as did James. While they were recovering from the spell, Dumbledore swooped in next to the couple and performed a series of confundus charms.
"You shall leave your wands at a distance the whole night, after you drop all wards surrounding your house. When harm comes you will run upstairs where there is no way out."Dumbledore explained as he looked at the couple sadly, but didn't regret what he was doing.
Sacrifices had to be made for the greater good after all.
Dumbledore did a quick memory altering charm before returning the couple to their original position. He went to the door and made sure the wards were still the same. He then revived the young couple and stood outside of the building, pulling an invisibility cloak quickly over his body as he waited for the wards to fall.
When he felt the words come crashing down, he smiled. The Dark Lord would be gone by the end of tonight. So would the rest of a fine family but sacrifices needed to be made.
Dumbledore was losing respect amongst his peers, and he needed a new toy to help guide himself to greatness. He left the house, knowing within the hour the Dark Lord would be made aware of the fallen wards and he would make the most of it. He quickly found a spot that was out of sight but he could still see the Potter residence and settled down, preparing to watch the spectacle the night was sure to provide.
James and Lily moved in a daze as they quickly destroyed the wards and hid their wands underneath a floorboard. They then went back to their children and returned to normal, not knowing what they had just done.
The young family was about to call it a night when Lily caught sight of a dark figure walking towards their house. Her eyes widened as her pulse quickened.
"James!" she yelled. "He's here!"
James looked to the window and shot up more quickly than anyone could have imagined.
"Lily take the twins— I'll try and hold him back." Jame spoke quickly, to which Lily nodded solemnly, knowing that this was the last time she was going to see her husband alive. She scooped up Harry and Alisa, taking one in each arm, as she rushed up the stairs, which felt both wrong and right at the same time.
When she heard a thud of her husband's body, she almost broke down on the spot, tears daring to quickly flow down her face. She set the twins down in their cribs, knowing she would have a slightly better chance of winning if her arms were free. She prayed that the protection charm placed upon her children by Loki would help.
She heard the figure moving up the stairs and froze when she saw him. The wizard's face was covered by a hood but his red eyes shone through.
"Please, not my children," she begged, her voice breaking. "Take me but please, don't touch my children!"
The wizard looked on in amusement. This woman really thought she could save her children… All four of them were meant to die tonight.
"Move aside," he demanded. He was never going to let her live, not really but he could at least say he tried so when his coward of a servant asked he could answer truthfully. Not that he really cared but the less secrets means less reason for betrayal.
"Never." Lily feebly hissed as she kept her ground, body practically shaking in fear. She knew this was truly the end.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Green light filled the room as Lily fell, life had left her body before she even hit the floor.
The figure looked at the face that was once so filled with life, and felt no remorse. He then turned to the twins and decided on taking the boy out first, his spindly hands reaching for the child, who wailed out for his parents.
Right before casting the spell, however, he thought of something he might want to try. The Dark Lord swished his wand and the two children came flying towards him. He stopped them a few feet in front of him and set them down on the ground.
He readyed his wand and pointed it at the middle of the two, tring to make sure that he would hit them both with one spell. He allowed himself a small moment of satisfaction before muttering two words followed by a green flash. Voldemort stood there in shock as the green light came back towards him, then he was no more.
Loki was sitting in his room, looking at a small photo book that held some of his most prized possessions. Every day he regretted not being able to spend more time with his children, nor allow them to get to know him. All he wanted was his children to be here, sheltered and hidden from danger..
Loki was looking at one of his favorite pictures when suddenly, something felt off. r. He immediately set down the photo book and sprinted out of his room. He knew he was drawing far too much attention to himself, but he didn't care— not when his children were in great danger. He ran through the door, his form shifting with a blur of feathers into a raven before flying straight to the Bifrost.
"Heimdel, I need passage to Midgard immediately."
"Yes, my prince."
Loki stood in front of the Bifrost when the light began to encompass him. He felt himself flying through space before his feet crashed onto the ground. Loki then teleported to the house in Godric's Hollow… and what he saw broke him.
There was debris everywhere and the house was almost gone. He silently went into the house, his heart pounding in his ears as he rushed up to the second floor. He saw his Lily…lying down on the floor of the children's nursery. He looked for his children when he felt the small amount of their shield be destroyed completely. He knew his children weren't here yet he frantically tore about the nursery as if they would appear.
He found Peter Pettigrew, which is the least he could do to avenge James and Lily. He made sure Sirius was still free by the end of the night and then went out to find his children. He searched high and low, trying magical means as well, but never being able to find them. After realizing he was probably away from home for a little too long, he made his way back to Asgard via secret passages that were hidden within all of the 9 realms.
When he was finally back in his room, he let it all out. He could feel his magic swirling around him, reflecting the whirlwind of emotion that he felt on the inside. This was too much for him. Every child he had, he loved deeply, however each of them were ripped away from him violently. It tore a piece of Loki's heart every time he had to witness Odin punish his children for something other than existing. Then the moment he finds a family on Midgard, they are ripped from him as well.
He never meant to meet Lily, but he was better for it. The first time he laid eyes on his beautiful twins, he nearly cried in happiness. He swore in that moment to protect his twins in every possible measure. He even made a deal with James Potter, just so he could see his children at least once a year.
It killed him that he would only be able to see his children once a year, but knew he had to be patient. He would wait until they reached 10, then explain to them who he was and their powers they were gifted with. He had it all planned out, then it went all down the drain in a single night.
His belongings were destroyed and his room looked like a war zone but he still didn't feel much better. When people saw Loki morosely walking through the castle, they simply assumed that a prank went wrong or Thor beat him again. No one truly knew the reason for his grief and if he had his way no one ever would.
Dumbledore looked on at hollow remains of the one loved filled home of Lily and James Potter, and felt fulfilled. Finally, something went right. He quietly walked towards the house and examined the two children. He could see both of the twins had scars on them but he knew that Harry had probably inherited more power from his family. So in the moment, he chose which one of the twins would be forgotten from history and the other that would be worshiped like a saint.
He took Harry and Alisa, and went to Number 4 Privet Drive before altering the young children's memories. He could not allow them to know each other, it would interfere with his plans. He dropped off young Harry on the doorstep and left, knowing that he was not going to have a childhood.
In fact, Dumbledore was counting on it.
He then looked down at the young girl in his arms before deciding what to do with her. He quickly apperated to outside Hogwarts's wards before marching inside. He found the person he was looking for and began to twist his story to fit his needs.
"Ah Severus, I need to talk to you, my boy."
A young Severus Snape looked at the Headmaster warily, eyeing the wrapped bundle in the older man's arms.
"What do you need me to do?"
"I would like you to deliver this child to the first orphanage you can find."
"And why would I do that? This is Lily's daughter… isn't it?"
"Because they are dead. I need you to deliver this child to an orphanage so that she can have a semi-normal life. If she were to grow up in her brother's shadow, that could turn her against us very quickly."
Severus, even though he knew it was wrong, agreed with a short head nod. He walked out of the castle and dumped the child in the first orphanage he found. He walked away knowing that he probably just condemned the child to years of suffering but at this point he was numb, unable to do much but sit there and wonder where it all went wrong.
The entirety of the Wizarding World was in fanatics. The terror that had loomed over their heads for years was finally gone. It was like lifting a huge weight off their shoulders. However some people weren't so happy.
Sirius Black was sitting in his living room, drunk and trying to wash away the pain. He could not deal with the fact that he was betrayed by one that he thought of as one of his greatest friends. The man he had trusted with his friends' lives had betrayed them all and he was the reason. He was the one that made Peter James's secret keeper. The pain of losing his best friend had only just begun to sink in. He didn't know why he couldn't just accept it but whenever he went up to grab another glass, he expected James to tell him off for having too many drinks. But James would not appear, not now…not ever. Sirius got one more glass of potent alcohol to wash down the pain of the last.
He wanted to raise the Potter children but knew he couldn't. If he wasn't dead by tomorrow then he probably would be in the next couple of years. There was no way he could raise a child, much less two. He loved the twins with all his heart but knew he would never be a good father. So when Hagrid told him that Dumbledore was handling it, a part of him was relieved and the guilt was quickly let go.
Remus Lupin wasn't much better. He was running around the forests of London, trying to find a way to relieve the pain. He couldn't deal with the fact that his best friend was dead and another a traitor. His rage towards Peter was greater than any could possibly imagine. He was currently being held in a high security cell that had some of the strongest spellwork possible surrounding it.
Remus knew that while it was there to keep the rat in, it was also made to keep others out, specifically Sirius and himself. As Remus looked around the woods and sensed no one, he took out his wand and attacked the trees like there was no tomorrow. If anyone walked in on him, they would be extremely confused. Most thought of Remus as the voice of reason or the calm one in the group of Marauders. Typically this was true, but Remus had always been one who never let his emotions show. Negative emotions made him feel too close to his inner wolf and that could possibly lead to exposure. Remus looked at the damage he had done and broke down into a crying heap in the middle of a destroyed circle of trees and grass.
A young woman, no older than 25 years old, looked down upon the small bundle that was laying on the entrance to the Orphanage. She looked down into the bright green eyes and knew something was different about this young child. Even though the toddler could be no older than two, she radiated an air of power.
She took the baby in her arms and walked back inside. Part of her was numb and the other part was reeling at the fact that a child had been abandoned on the doorstep in the middle of night. It wasn't like it was warm either. It was now the first of November, and the temperature was far too cold for such a hound child to be abandoned alone with only a small blanket and a note with her. She moved up the stairs and found an empty crib. She set the child down softly and tucked her in then grabbed the note and left the room. When she started to read the note, she was utterly confused.
Dear whomever it may concern,
This is Alisa. She was born on July 31st, 1994 and is orphaned as of tonight. Her only other relatives are unfit to care for a child. Please take care of her. Her schooling is already taken care of from the ages of 11 and onward.
Best wishes,
A.P.W.B.D
The young woman was shocked at the small amount of information given and that someone decided to drop her off at what was probably the first place they could find. The woman looked around at the semi-run down house and knew that there were plenty of places that could better provide for a child. The young woman shook her head and went up to her bed, knowing tomorrow would be a very long day.
Petunia Dursley awoke to vulgar cursing coming in waves from her husband. She groggily got out of bed and wrapped a robe around her, over her pajamas. When she found her husband standing in the door frame, her confusion only increased. What was wrong?, she wondered.
"Vernon dear, what's wrong?"
"Child," he said in a whisper.
He slowly moved out of the way so his wife could see the child that was currently sleeping on their doorstep. Petunia stood in the doorway, not making a sound. A million emotions were going through her head, shock and anger not being the least of them. Despite her growing hae, she swooped down and picked the boy up and took him inside the house, not wanting her neighbors to see the small child on her doorstep.
"Who is this?" Vernon asked.
"I believe he is my nephew, but I don't know why he is here," she said, her voice full of nervousness.
"Well, we have to keep him now don't we," Vernon said, throwing the letter he had just read down on the table. "This letter here says his parents are dead and apparently there is no one else to take him in."
"We should start to focus on stomping the magic out of him. I will not have a freak grow up in my household," Petunia cried.
Vernon simply nodded along while looking at the small baby in his wife's arms, not knowing what to think. Harry Potter, he thought. What a terribly boring name. He couldn't believe what had already happened that day and it wasn't even 10:00 yet. He shook his head and headed off to work.
Dudley didn't know what was really going on but all he knew was that he was now getting less attention than he used to and there was a new child in the house as well. He saw the small child simply absorb his mother's attention.. He wasn't used to this and he was figuring out that he didn't like it. He didn't like it at all.
Dudley toddled over to the other child in the room and looked at him. He didn't recognize him. The other child had dark hair and bright eyes. He saw the toddler reach for a toy and immediately hobbled over and snatched it from him.
"Mine!" he cried.
Harry looked confused but reached for another toy. Again, Dudley claimed the toy as his and waddled off with it. Soon enough Harry was too tired to try anymore and gave up, finding a comfortable spot on the floor and falling asleep.
Petunia knew what was going on in the living room but did nothing to stop as the freak could never believe he was special, because if he did, he might expose them all to a whole world of freaks.
Normal, she thought, We are going to be just a normal family.
