It was a on beautiful Sunday afternoon, while she was laughing with her sister at the end of their lunch that a loud noise assaulted Kara's eardrum. She winced as everything other than that alarm sounded muffled. She stopped eating and dropped her donut mid-bite; she looked up at Alex who seemed fine, other than the worry lines on her face. She watched her sister's lips moved as she spoke. Obviously asking about what was wrong.

Kara covered her ears with her hands, but it didn't help. It felt like they were pulsing in rhythm with each ring. Alex got up to get closer to her, after getting no real response from her sister she pulled out her phone.

As suddenly as it had started it stopped. Kara rubbed her ears before she grabbed Alex's arm. "It's okay. I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes." Kara nodded.

Alex informed whoever was on the phone that it wouldn't be necessary. False alert. She put her phone on top of the table as she went back to her seat. "What happened?"

"I don't know." Frowned Kara. "There was this ringing. It was so loud. Strangely familiar but I can't recall where I heard it before."

"Do you need a medical check-out? Maybe we should leave." Alex looked around, thinking about the fastest way out.

"No, Alex I'm fine. Truly. My ears are just still a tiny bit ringing." Which was when her phone let out a small ring. It didn't help but at least it was just a text. She frowned as she read it. "It's Clark. I have to go to the fortress."

"Do you think it has anything to do with what just happened?" Asked Alex.

"Definitely."

"Then go. I'll take care of the bill, don't worry."

Kara nodded. "Thanks Alex, I'll keep you posted."

And Supergirl was off, it didn't take her long to reach the fortress. She was about to open the main door when she jumped back at the sudden movement. Clark had opened the door from within.

He was standing in the doorway, arms crossed, dressed as Superman and glaring at Kara.

Her mouth dropped opened; she could only think about a paternal figure scolding at a child. It didn't help when he greeted her with the question. "What did you do?"

Kara's mouth opened and closed a few times. "Me? Nothing! You are the one who called!"

"Kara…" He trailed off.

"Isn't it about the…noise?"

"You mean the alarm? It was the fortress signaling us in case of an emergency." He slightly lowered his head and voice. "Your emergency."

"I already told you. I didn't do anything."

He uncrossed his arms, took a step backward inside. "Follow me."

She obeyed and followed a step behind him. They walked for a while, took a few turns down barely lit corridors. Kara had no idea where he was taking her, she had never been in this part of the fortress before. It had always felt more like Kal's place than hers, even if it was their communal Kryptonian heritage.

He finally stopped, pulled up a switch and a small light turned on behind a see-through container. Kara eyes grew wide. "What?" They were standing in front of a reproduction pod, the small light showing it was in function. It looked like there was a fully grown baby floating inside.

It was like her brain was stuck in a loop. "What?"

Clark pressed another button. The display was on under the glass. She had never seen it written in Kryptonian before, but there was no mistake possible. It was written "Luthor's heir".

"What?!" She started walking backward. "How is that possible? When did Lex…?"

Clark cut her off. "Not Lex."

"What?"

Clark pushed the same button as he did before, this time the lineage appeared.

Donor 1: Lena Luthor

Donor 2: Kara Zor-El

"And we are back to my first question: what did you do?"

"Nothing! That's not…possible." Kara was starting to wonder if this was real. She had to be asleep, that was it.

Clark sighed. "Obviously it is. The alarm was to warn us that the baby is full term. The amniotic fluid will drain in less than twenty minutes now. I was trying to understand how it had happened. Come on." He started to walk away; she was obviously meant to follow him.

She looked from him to the baby. This was her child. She was about to be a mom!

"I…should we… leave? I mean…"

"We are not going far. Trust me."

She followed numbly as he took them to the closest control console. He navigated shortly. "Here is what I found."

It was an official register, probably one of the few Kryptonians left. Kara knew then. On the top was the date. The day she had taken Lena here. The day Lena told her how betrayed and hurt she felt. The day, according to this log, they were officially married.

She never stopped to wonder how Lena had taken control of the fortress, turning its defenses against Kara. She knew Lena was a genius. Maybe she should have. Lena had created an entry, simple one about her family.

But the fortress was designed to obey the El family, so she had linked their family and made her family the superior one, which was why the baby was deemed a Luthor.

"I…I…wanted to share this place with Lena. I took her here. It didn't go…as I planned."

"Oh, you mean you didn't intend to elope and have her baby?" Kara glared at Clark's sarcasm.

"This has to be a mistake. Lena wouldn't disregard life like that, she wouldn't create it to just abandon it." Kara was pretty sure Lena wasn't coming back anytime soon with how strained their relationship was.

"She." As Clark saw the incomprehension on Kara's face he added. "It is a she."

"She." Kara's trembling hand came up to rest on her chest. "She is mine. My daughter. Oh Rao. I have to…" She didn't finish, she just walked back to the pod. She touched the glass. Was this really happening?

She could feel Kal's comforting presence behind her. "We can drain the fluid now if you want to?"

"No! No. I…could use these… minutes." Said Kara.

They stayed there in silence, until it was broken by a small beeping sound followed by a suction noise. A support sprung out from behind the baby, keeping it in place while the amniotic fluid was drained. Next two robot hands appeared, cutting off the umbilical cord, tying it. In a swoosh sound the pod opened.

Kara didn't move for a few seconds, then the baby screamed and cried. The place wasn't as cozy as it used to be.

It jolted Kara out of her stupor. She removed her cape to wrap it around the infant.

Kara had a baby in her arms. "She is real."

"Yes, she is." Clark wasn't sure how to act.

Kara was looking in amazement at the tiny face, tiny nose, tiny ears, tiny…everything. She had a child. She wasn't sure it would ever happen, but here she was and she was perfect. She felt tears run down her face. She was a mother. She had a family. She looked up at Kal.

"I have a daughter."

He wrapped them both in his arms. "Are they happy tears?"

She truthfully answered. "I have no idea. I guess. Yes. It's just so much."

Kara wasn't sure how long she remained in Kal's embrace, until she finally pushed him and they broke apart. She wiped her tears.

"I have to go home." She Stated.

"Do you need me to come with you?" Asked Clark.

"No, thanks."

"If there is anything I can do, just ask. I'm her uncle after all." He tried to lighten things up.

"Thank you, I just…I need to talk to Alex, then to Lena."

Kal frowned. "Kara, you know you don't have to. You don't own her anything."

"She is her daughter too; we definitely have to talk. I just need Alex first."

The trip back to Metropolis took more time than it ever did, she wasn't sure how fast she could fly while carrying a baby. She couldn't stop herself from staring at her, her child, which she knew she had to if she didn't want to hit another bird.

She finally reached her place; she had followed Alex's heartbeat there. The worried sister was pacing in Kara's living room.

Alex stopped as she heard the familiar sound of boots touching the ground, she turned around and swiftly walked towards the window and froze at the sight. Supergirl carrying a baby.

"What the…" Kara cut her off. "Language."

"It's a baby. He, she, can't understand me." Argued Alex. It was always easy to fall back into their usual sister banter and interaction, it always took some of the pressure of her shoulder.

"She." Stated Kara. "She is a she, and she is…mine."

Alex's jaw dropped. "This is not funny Kara."

"It undoubtedly isn't. Right now, I need your help, could you deal with the paperwork required for a newborn. She is half human so I don't know how I should…" Kara looked down at the baby. "I don't even know her name." Supergirl seemed lost.

"You know she's not going to tell you; you have to come up with something."

"I don't want to do it alone." Explained Kara.

Alex's body was still stuck, it felt like she couldn't move. "Who exactly are we talking about?

And how did it happen?! I would have noticed if you were that pregnant."

Kara cleared her throat. "It's complicated. I'm not even sure myself and…Lena." She couldn't look at her sister as she said that name.

"Lena." Said Alex in disbelief. "Lena Luthor?"

"Something happened in the fortress of solitude when I took her there."

"Obviously." Interrupted Alex. "And when you say took her, you mean bring right? I mean you didn't…?" She couldn't finish that sentence, she spread her hands open and made a strange motion, moving them back and forth towards one another.

"Alex!"

"What?! You made a baby!"

"The females in both our species don't reproduce like that. You know that!" Kara wondered if her sister had a drink, maybe more than one, while waiting anxiously for her.

"We were having lunch; you left and came back with a baby. A very Luthory baby."

"A very Luthory baby? What's that supposed to mean?"

"You told me she was Lena's, and look at her! She is completely bald!"

"Alex, maybe you should sit down." Suggested Kara, worried and a little offended. Offended at the comment she made about her daughter, her hair would grow, and she would be nothing like Lex.

"I'm sorry. I just need a minute." Alex breathed in and out slowly three times. "Okay. Okay. I'm…"

She took too long to finish so Kara did. "An aunt."

"An aunt." Repeated Alex, a smile forming on her lips.

"Whatever happens and however it came to be, you are this little one's aunt." Kara shifted the baby in her arms so Alex could see her better.

"My…Kara! You are a mom!"

Kara nodded at her sister. "And you pretty much freaked out more than I did."

"I didn't!"

"You commented, no I should say you attacked, her baldness." Kara stepped forward, moving the baby even closer to her sister. She caressed the child's head. The little girl opened her eyes and looked around.

Just like that Alex wasn't really freaking out anymore. She was in love with these baby blue eyes. "Kara. She is…She is beautiful."

"I know." Kara looked down adoringly at her daughter. "She is perfect. You should see her little toes!"

"May I." Alex asked, she wanted to hold her.

"I…" Kara held on tighter. It wasn't rational but she felt like her life depended on this little creature. "I'm not ready to let go yet. I'm sorry. It doesn't make any sense." The baby yawned and Kara was amazed.

"It's okay. I understand. I probably wouldn't give her back to you anyway." Teased Alex and Kara mocked glaring back at her. There was a moment of silence until Kara said. "I have to go talk to Lena."

Alex didn't know what had happened and she'd bombard Kara with questions, later, after thinking them through. "I'll go get whatever legal papers we need and some supply for the baby. You'll come back here after your talk?"

"Yes. Thank Alex."

"Always." Stated Alex before she went in for a small hug, the little girl between them.

Kara watched Alex walk out her apartment before she turned to the sky. She knew she had to talk to Lena, part of her was yearning for any moment she could have with the raven-haired woman, but on the other hand she had no idea what to expect. They were at odds. She wished things were different. She wished…It didn't matter she had to go. Her baby came first.

She made sure the little one was well wrapped in her cape before taking off. She easily located Lena's heartbeat. L-Corp, of course.

She landed as softly as she could, she didn't want to scare the tiny one.

Lena felt the hair on the back of her neck stand, she felt like she was being watched, which meant, at that height…She turned around in her chair, and here she was. Supergirl.

She didn't want to see her; she raised her hand to activate the security she had put in place.

Supergirl showed her what she was carrying in her cape. A baby. Her curiosity was piqued.

Lena slowly got up, whatever she thought, or wondered about Supergirl; she knew she would never use a baby to get to her. There had to be more to it. She opened her balcony door and stepped out. "After dislodging cats from trees, Supergirl can babysit too, who knew."

Kara wasn't sure how to phrase what she had to say so she asked the first thing that came to her mind. "How are you?"

"Is this a social call? I wouldn't have…"

Kara cut her off. "The baby is yours, well ours."

Lena took a step back, glaring. "This isn't funny Supergirl." She made the superhero name sound like an insult.

"I'm very serious. I need to know exactly what you did when you…hacked the fortress of solitude. I already know you created an entry about your family, a high-ranking family, then what?"

Lena frowned as she crossed her arms. "I just linked our families so I could get control of the thing. Wrote my house was bigger than yours"

"Linked? What do you mean exactly?"

"Just that, I wrote down we were collaborating, I was surprise it worked, I had to validate my choice like three times, I even cut myself on the enter key." She rubbed her fingers together as she remembered that cut.

"Collaborating? Lena which word did you use exactly?"

"I'm not really sure about the pronunciation. The first symbol was diamond shaped, like the one on your chest but with a strange eight in it, next was a point on top of a bar, on top of a sideway u. The word was finished by a vertical Rhombus." Detailed Lena.

"Sern. Lena that word doesn't simply mean collaborate or team up, it can mean unify, unite or join. The matrix knows everything there is to know about Krypton, it knows. When you entered your name, there was only one way we could be 'linked' as you say. It is through a sacred union, a marriage. You united our houses. And to completely seal it, you gave it your DNA. A few months later here we are." Kara raised the baby in her arms to make her point. "Baby Luthor."

Lena felt like she was going to faint, she went at least two shade lighter, with her natural pale complexion it was worrisome. Why did it always seem that everything she did took an unexpected turn. "Luthor, don't you mean Zor-El or Danvers?"

"No, you made it so your house came first. She is registered as the Luthor heir, she has a connection with the house of El, but my house heir will be Kal's child, I mean Superman." She might have sounded a little bitter on the edges.

"Does that mean you are just here to blame me and drop the baby?"

"Of course not." Kara's first instinct was to move away to keep the tiny creature with her, she fought it and didn't move, although she tensed. "I didn't think you'd make a baby from the both of us on purpose, I needed to know how it happened. And now we need to talk about what we do next. Do you recognize her as your own?"

Lena moved closer, there was no way she could deny this child was part of her, she had seen baby pictures of herself, and it was strange, but she felt it. Not that she ever fantasized about hypothetical children she might have with Kara. Her brain corrected, Supergirl.

She closed her eyes for a second. "Supergirl, I…I never thought I'd be a mother, I mean I am a Luthor, we tend to be all doom and gloom. Who would sanely choose to raise a child in that darkness? Who would want to impose that kind of legacy on anyone?"

Kara moved closer. "You are a Luthor, and you are good. I know you are mad at me because I didn't…completely disclose my identity. I'm sorry I was selfish I…"

Lena cut her off. "I'm not mad at you because you didn't tell me, I am mad because you openly lied. You deceived me. You acted one way towards me as Kara and another as Supergirl. We all have secrets, but you betrayed me, that's different. You let me open up to you while giving me lies back. You don't trust me with who you are but you would trust me with your child?"

Kara took the last step, pushing the baby against Lena's chest, she kept her steady with one hand while the other one grabbed Lena's arm underneath. Lena didn't really resist as Kara positioned her. "Kara…"Trailed off Lena, her resistance was meek.

"It's our child. I know you only see darkness when you look at your family, but you are not like that, and maybe what you need is a little light. She could be a beacon of hope."

"Beacon of hope, it sounds more like a Supergirl kind of thing."

"Well, she is my daughter too." Smile Kara.

Lena looked down at the tiny infant and was surprised to see her look right back into her eyes. Like she was staring. She would not enter a staring contest with a baby, not everything had to be a challenge. "I…I need some time to process, all of it. Could you?"

Kara took back the child. "I understand." A veiled way to say 'I know you'. "I'm going back to my place, just please, contact me quickly so I know what to do. About her name and…everything."

"I will." Answered Lena. Her knees were a little shaky, she need to sit and maybe have a drink. Or three.

That evening Kara's apartment was a mess, Alex had brought back whatever she could in that short amount of time, and the money she had. Diapers, bottles, pacifier, lotions, formula…

The baby was dressed, wearing a onesie Alex had obviously chosen, written on it was: Take me to my Aunt, you Peasant. Kara had given her sister a look when she had seen the clothes her sisters had picked. Of course, one was a Supergirl onesie.

They were making a bottle, Kara was paying close attention the Alex explaining to her what temperature she needed, babies were fragile and Kara didn't feel the heat like humans did. Even if her daughter had some of her abilities, they didn't want to take any risk. She'd need to remember; she could feel what it was supposed to be like on the inside of her wrist.

Someone knocked on her door. She lowered her glasses to see who it was. She immediately opened to Lena. She walked carrying bags, followed by her driver who pulled in a crib. "Thank you so much Jason. You can go home."

"Yes, miss Luthor." He nodded towards the other women in the room before leaving.

"I…I wasn't sure what you had bought so I thought, maybe a crib. It needs to be assembled though."

Alex was glaring at the Luthor heiress, she was feeding a baby, which made her seem less threatening than her usual self. "Lena." She greeted.

"Alex. How are you?"

"Good. I got a niece all of a sudden. I didn't expect that." Kara had explained it to her, but no matter what, Lena had hurt her little sister, she was not okay with that.

"I think it was a surprise for all of us." Said Lena.

"It might not have been the case if one of us wasn't so rash sometimes." Was Alex's little dig.

Lena looked down, and Kara admonished her sister. "Alex!"

"What?! She has to take responsibilities for her actions, like the rest of us. She sought revenge, regardless of the consequences. That was reckless, selfish and…"

"I know, I…acted as a Luthor." Sighed Lena.

"It's too easy, you can't just hide behind your family name. No matter how you were raised, each decision you make is your own. You acted as Lena Luthor, own it. And now Kara is in this position because of you. She won't even pick a name without your input, not even her last name, and just…" Alex had been moving closer as she ranted.

"Enough Alex, we get it." Kara was starting to glare at her sister.

"I…I had an idea about the name." Lena pulled out a piece of paper, with different names written and scratched. She handed it to Kara, who was then standing next to her sister.

At the bottom was one name. Laoise Luthor Danvers.

"I have no idea how I am supposed to pronounce that." Commented Alex, which earned her a jab in the ribs from Kara's elbow. "Oh what?! Do you know how to say it?"

Lena answered, looking directly into Kara's eyes. "It's pronounced lee-sha. Laoise is an Irish name, it means light."

"Laoise Astra Luthor Danvers." Said Kara with a small smile. "There you finally know what to write on your papers."

"Don't you want to talk more about it, she just walked in with an unreadable name and that's it."

"Alex. Why don't you…go put that crib together, while Lena and I speak?" Asked Kara.

The DEO agent glared, but she knew she had to step out. "Fine, I'll be the lesbian assembling furniture."

She grabbed the box in which the crib was, or at least, the kit was in and started to drag it with one hand on her way to Kara's room.

"Alex." Kara stopped her sister.

Alex groaned, let go of the package for a moment while she walked back to her sister to hand her back her baby. "Can't blame a girl for trying." Was the last thing Alex said before she left the room.

Kara made sure her daughter was safely in her arms as she grabbed the bottle under Lena's gaze.

"Of course, I'm open about it, we can talk, I like Lori too, and maybe…"Kara stopped Lena's babble one look. "Let's sit down."

Kara sat first, while Lena took off her coat, before taking a seat on the same couch, but not too close, she laid her coat across her lap.

"Laoise is perfect. It means something to the both of us, our little light." Kara wanted be to reassuring.

"Our little starlight it would seem."

"I know what it means on earth, I think, but Astra was actually my aunt's name." Explained the blonde. Lena looked at her but didn't ask, she knew how complicated family could be. She stared at Kara, not sure about who this person was anymore, even less who she was to her.

"I…what do you suggest we do now?" Asked Lena.

"What do you mean?" Frowned Kara.

"I didn't really forgive you yet, but when I was growing, I made myself a promise. If I ever had children, I'd do my best to be a good and loving mother. So I'm in, whatever this is. We just need to define it, put boundaries."

"You already defined it; we are married." Stated Kara.

"I just changed a few lines on a computer, that was not intentional."

"That was not intentional. Hmm why does it sound like something a man would say while trying to escape his responsibilities, after knocking up a woman." Commented the D.E.O agent as she walked in.

"Alex!" Scolded Kara.

"Don't mind me I'm just missing something very important to put that crib together." Said Alex as she made her way towards the kitchen.

"I was told everything was included in the box, even the tools." Said Lena.

"It is." Alex opened the fridge and pulled out a beer, she raised the bottle as she walked by the two women and left once more.

"Back to us."

Lena didn't let Kara say anymore. "I'm not trying to elude anything. I am aware of the part I have in this. I mean…are you telling me you want to get married?"

"That's what I'm trying to tell you, according to my beliefs, my customs, my people. We are already married."

"There was no ceremony."

"Although it is common, it was not necessary on Krypton. We did the most binding thing we could, we had an heir."

"Kara, I just hacked one console." Argued Lena.

"Okay, let's say someone filled paperwork and delivered it to city hall, would you consider they were actually married?"

"Well, you'd need both parts to consent and you know…consume the wedding."

"I took you into the fortress, my family most secret and intimate space. That would be considered very untoward, and as you said you had to validate three times your choice on the console."

"Intimate? Nevermind, that's not…I mean Kara you've always been a romantic."

"I like this foreign concept, but I was taught to live following logic. Houses unions were logic, power, genetics and no sex. Never sex, we had pods for that."

Lena chuckled, part of it was her nerves. "Kara I know you had sex before."

"I have adapted to this planet. On Krypton I would have been ostracized for this, sex without marriage"

"As you said, you've adapted yourself, why are you so rigid about this?"

"Why are you so opposed to being married to me?" Countered Kara as she put the bottle on the table, empty, before wiping Laoise tiny mouth.

Lena opened and closed her mouth a few times. She came for a reason, to make things work, for her daughter. She sighed. Words had spilled faster than she intended to when she had confronted Kara in the Fortress, for some reason she managed not to let slip out all of it. She couldn't blame Kara for keeping secrets when part of the tension between them was because of her feeling.

"You already broke my heart. I…hmm…I was in love with you." Lena stared at her hands as she spoke, she couldn't face the rejection that would be on Kara's face.

Kara on the other hand was stunned, her mouth dropped open.

"This is partially why I was so hurt and mad. I, in my Luthor way, wanted to hurt you as you hurt me. And getting married to you now, it would be like a dream, a nightmare, I don't know. I'm terrified of being hurt again."

Kara slipped on the couch until she was right next to Lena, their thighs touching, with her free hand she covered Lena fidgeting fingers. "I'm terrified too, of you leaving, me." At that Lena looked up. "This was why I didn't tell you sooner about Supergirl. I feared that with our history…And the more I waited to tell you the truth the worse it got. One of the reasons why I want to be married to you is that I know you'd never leave me."

Lena awkwardly commented. "It's not…there is always divorce." She wanted to bite her tongue as soon as she said it.

"Kryptonians don't divorce, it doesn't exist in our laws." Stated Kara with force.

"Kara…"

"I am in love with you. Every second I spend with you I feel…lighter. I never thought…I couldn't tell you, not until I'd unveiled the Supergirl part of me, and then…"

"And then I materialized your fear, I left you. Even before the Fortress, I know I took a step back from our relationship."

"Lena, I love you. I promise I will never hurt you, well never intentionally, if you…" Someone burped and interrupted her.

"Great timing darling." Lena said as she reached out to touch her daughter's head, she paused for a second before Kara gave her a reassuring look and her finger finally caressed the soft skin.

"Just one day and she has already been influenced by Alex." Teased the blonde. They shared a moment of silence, until Lena was ready.

"I still…love you." It felt strange in her mouth, it was not something she was used to saying, or even hearing. "I love you, and I too, promise I will never intentionally hurt you."

"Does it sound like some strange vows to you? Marriage vows." Tried Kara.

"According to you we are already married, with a paper trail, a baby and no sex." Lena raised her left eyebrow when she pronounced the last word.

"I want to respect your customs too, consummating our union, we could…" Kara cleared her throat as her eyes went to Lena's lips. She was sure she just licked them on purpose.

"No." Said Lena and Kara deflated. "I don't want tradition, if you want to have sex, which believe me, I'm all for, I want a hell yes from you, nothing less."

Kara surged forward, her lips connecting with Lena's. It was quick and she went in for a second softer kiss, then a third before she started to touch Lena's lips with her tongue, asking for entrance.

Lena pulled back, pupils blown, pink cheeks. "Okay. Maybe we should put the little one to bed now."

Kara's brain wasn't completely back. "Yes. Yes, absolutely." Her head tiled as she could still hear her sister in the other room. "And we need to wish a goodnight to Alex too, and ask her to leave."

They both stood up, while staring in each other's eyes. Kara leaned in once more before they started to make their way to Laoise's room. "And Lena, it's Rao yes."
