Chapter 4
Getting Familiar
48 Hours Later
As it turned out, everyone did have an idea of who shot Sara and the Waverider out of the sky. Leading to Sara meeting one Esperanza 'Spooner' Cruz and deciding that she would be joining the crew to make up for what she did after hearing her story. Something Spooner hadn't been all that enthused about at first until she realized it meant she got to kick Alien Ass out in Space and finally get some payback for what had been done to her. And because of her aptitude for sensing Alien lifeforms and skill with creating her own Weaponry to be used against Aliens, Lucy had told her they'd talk about recruitment for the DEO once she came back. During the 48 hours, the Legends would familiarize themselves with the new Ship that was now officially known as the 'Waverider II' and would even be able to transfer Gideon to it as it was capable of containing an AI. One advantage that the second Waverider would have over the original was the fact that each member's room included its own bathroom and shower. Something everyone was damned happy about for that matter!
During this time, Sara would do her best to soundly ignore her mother's attempts to talk to her while focusing on getting familiar with the new ship. Interestingly enough, she'd have an encounter during this time with Michael, the version of Rip Hunter that didn't become a Time Master thanks to her and the others taking them out all those years ago. However, he would still become a Time Traveler despite that and form the 'Time Police' and had come to assure her that the original Waverider would be at Time Police Headquarters until she and the rest of the Legends returned from Outer Space. As no one needed access to the kind of Technology the Waverider had, regardless of the amount of damage sustained to it and while she had her reservations about it all, Sara ultimately agreed to his taking the Ship for safe keeping. It had also been decided between Ray and Nora that while he would be going with the Team to Space, she would remain on Earth as that is where she needed to be due to her being the Fairy Godmother. Reasoning that she would be fine and would have Mona and a few others to be with.
As Book Club had also gained a few more members as well since its initial founding. Jax would've loved to go with them but considering his own young Family, he couldn't and Sara couldn't fault him for that and even insisted on meeting them once she and the others got back. A request he was all too willing to agree on. Sara would also choose ten of the best trained members of the DEO to bring with on the Rescue Mission, one of them being a Tech Specialist by the name of Noami Singh who'd been part of the Waverider II's development. The new Waverider would also include Maps of different Star Systems and how to reach them thanks in part to all the Aliens that had been encountered over the years. And thanks to Abin Sur of the Green Lantern Corps, the crew now knew to head for the Necrian Planet to get back their friends. There was also a special Emergency System installed on the Waverider in case they needed it.
One that would contact a member of the Green Lantern Corps in case they needed help for whatever reason. Now two hours before Sara and the crew were set to launch into Space, she'd get word that her mom was trying to contact her, again. Making her sigh and shake her head. "I'm probably gonna regret this, but I'll go and see what she wants."
She'd probably threaten her with a Strait Jacket instead of the Police this time. "You want me to come with you, babe?" Ava asked in concern.
But Sara shook her head. "Nah, I'll be fine, promise."
This didn't necessarily alleviate Ava's concern and she'd hug her Fiance before she went off to make use of a Time Courier to get to her mom's place. All the while muttering in a mix of English and Arabic as she did so and with a great reluctance, knocked on her mom's front door. Seconds later found her being dragged inside by her mom who wasted no time afterwards. "Are you insane!?"
"I'm pretty certain I'm not, mom."
Dinah stared at her before shaking her head. "Flying that thing and attacking an Alien Spaceship!? What were you thinking!? For that matter, since when do you even know how to fly at all!?" Asked the irate mother.
Sara bit back an unkind retort before speaking. "I was thinking that I had to get back my friends that those Aliens took. And as for how I know, I learned. Simple as that." And that's all she was gonna say on that matter.
Her mom let out a whimper as she began to pace back and forth, something Sara wasn't in the mood to deal with considering she was about to be heading into Space in two hours. "We, we can get you help, Sara. This is not something for you to be dealing with, okay? Superman or even Supergirl are around for that kind of thing." Dinah told her frantically after stopping her pacing and put her hands on her baby girl's shoulders.
An action that made the good Captain pull away from. "Gee, mom, that's the kind of talk that let me get away with whatever back when I was younger." She told her in a biting and sarcastic manner.
She just bet dad would be unhappy about this situation if he were here right now and not back in Star. Sure, he had his worries about what she was going to be doing soon but at least he was supportive! Her mom gaped in shock at her. "This is hardly the same thing as that, Sara! Its one thing to follow your heart but another thing entirely to be involved in the kind of insanity you have so foolishly put yourself in! But if you stay with me and don't leave the city, we, we can get you help for that, sweetheart! Don't you want that!?"
"You really know how to parent, mom. I am NOT crazy and you need to realize that."
"No, YOU need to realize that you are, sweetheart. Please! Especially before you get hurt!" Tried the mother.
But Sara wasn't willing to listen anymore and turned to leave. "I'm gone, I'm going out there to get my friends back." Yeah, she was definitely regretting this…
Her mom however, wasn't about to just let her daughter walk out her front door but Sara was quick to prove how much faster she was than her. "Get back here right now, young lady!"
Turning to look back at her mom, Sara shook her head. "I'm not a kid anymore, I'm an adult and I've been one for a long time now. One whose actually learned how to be responsible."
And with that, she opened a Portal back to the Moon Base, leaving her mom to stare in shock as her youngest disappeared from view seconds later.
Author's Notes: Well, that was about as unpleasant as the last time these two talked during the events of 'Mother/Daughter Conversation'.
