AMY´S CREEK - S01E06 - OLD AQUAINTANCES PART 2
Disclaimer: I don´t own Dawson´s Creek or the characters from it.
1. Ext. Garden. Day.
Audrey comes out to the garden, trying to look chipper.
Audrey (voice over):
Do you remember the train wreck, I used to be? If one thing went wrong, you just knew that "Crazy Old Audrey" would fly off the hinges. Go on a drinking binge and hook up with some guy, she wouldn´t be able to recognize the morning after. Thank god for growing up! I´m not saying that I can´t still lose my temper, but I´m almost 16 years sober and I plan to stay that way. The only problem is my Cryptonite, also known as Dawson Leery. I can stay cool, calm and collected for weeks and then something involving him happens and I´m a mess. I wish, we could work it out!
She spots Joey and Pacey talking and decides to join them.
Audrey (voice over):
Ah, old friends! I have some good ones back home, but I´ll probably never find one like Joey. To think that a random room drawing put us together back in college and I made a friend for life. I wish, everyone could be that lucky.
She approaches them, but they still haven´t noticed her.
Joey:
She was a mess, just a few minutes before we left.
Pacey:
Just imagine what would happen if she ...
Audrey:
If I what? It isn´t polite to talk about someone in 3rd person, when they´re standing next to you.
They notice her and try to play it off.
Pacey:
If you ...
There´s a long awkward silence, as he tries desperately to come up with something and scratches his hair.
Pacey:
Ehm ... had ...
Audrey:
Just tell me. I can handle it.
Joey:
If you found out, that me and Dawson fooled around a while ago.
Audrey:
What!
Joey:
It was long after you broke up, while me and Pacey were falling apart.
Audrey:
I can´t believe you!
She storms off.
Audrey (voice over):
Sometimes, being an adult is hard!
OPENING CREDITS
2. Ext. Street. Day.
Audrey is just outside Gail´s house.
Audrey (voice over):
Why am I still so possessive of him? It´s been over a year, since our 3rd and so far, last break up. Maybe it´s because, I haven´t felt like hooking up with anyone else. Me living like a nun doesn´t give me right to demand, that he lives like a monk, though. But with Joey, of all people? Was he trying to hurt me?
She looks frustrated and takes a deep breath.
Audrey (voice over):
What now, Audrey? You´re in a small town, where you haven´t been in years, your phone is inside and you´ve stormed out. Maybe a walk will clear your head.
She walks over toward Grams and Jen´s old house.
3. Int. Lilly´s Room. Day.
Amy is hanging out with Lilly.
Amy (voice over):
Another nice part of the birthday, was that I got to hang out with Lilly. She used to babysit me back in the day and we always had fun, when she did. Now that I´m getting older, we´re starting to connect in more of an adult way.
Lilly:
You are going to love college! You pick your own classes, the teachers aren´t nearly as dull, as they were in High School and the boys! Oh, my God!
Amy:
You didn´t hear? I gave up on them for a girl named Vicki.
Lilly smiles widely.
Lilly:
Then you´ll REALLY love college! Our school has an LGBT club and not that I think of them that way, but there´s some pretty hot girls in it! I can only imagine, what their Girl´s Nights are like!
Amy smiles to herself.
Amy (voice over):
I wish, I could be more like her. Sure, there´s things to worry about in the world, but you won´t make them better, by letting them get you down. She does charity with a smile and helps out that way. So what, if she can´t name any politicians or tell you the difference between the parties. She probably does more good than most politicians do, when you get down to it.
Joey and Dawson come in.
Joey:
We need your help. Audrey´s gone missing.
Lilly:
The house isn´t that big!
Dawson:
She left in anger. Knowing her history, it´s hard not to worry.
Joey:
We´ll check out both of the bars. Can you two have a look around the area?
Lilly:
I can´t see why not.
Amy:
Can´t you call her?
Joey:
It rings up to her coat. I´m sure, that she´s fine, but you never know.
The girls get up and leave the room with Joey and Dawson.
4. Ext. Gail´s House. Day.
Amy and Lilly are trying to come up with a plan.
Amy (voice over):
Find her? That´s easy! It´s only like looking for a needle in a haystack!
Lilly:
We could ask the neighbors.
Amy:
Don´t you think, she would have gone further than that?
Lilly:
How should I know?
Amy:
You are the closest to an adult, of the two of us!
Lilly:
I´m nowhere close to an adult! Just because you leave home, doesn´t automatically mean that you turn into an adult, all of a sudden.
Amy:
I kind of thought, it did.
Lilly:
The smartest thing we can do is stay in one place and hope, that we spot her.
Amy:
We can take a walk down to the harbor and get an ice cream. At least that way, we can pretend, we tried!
Lilly:
I love your way of thinking! I hope they have Pistachio!
They walk in the direction of the harbor.
5. Int. Weymouth´s House. Day.
Audrey is in Jen´s old house. She is being shown it by mr. Weymouth (a pleasant looking man in his 60´s), the new owner. He shows her Jen´s old room, that´s now a study.
Audrey (voice over):
With no idea where to go, I went right across the street. I thought it would be nice to see Jen´s old room, since I never got to see it the first time around.
Audrey:
This would have been it.
She looks out the window, over to Gail´s house.
Audrey:
She told me, how she could look over to Dawson´s house from her window.
Weymouth:
Dawson, as in Gail´s son?
Audrey:
That´s the one. She had a big crush on him, back when they were sophomores. It must have broken her heart, to see another girl climb through his window every evening.
Weymouth:
I had no idea, that he was such a ladies man. He always seemed like more of the quiet type to me.
Audrey:
It was the same girl every night, so I don´t know, if I´d call him a player. Plus, I don´t think they did anything naughty. Not at that time, anyway. Believe it or not, history is repeating itself, with me in the role of Jen.
Weymouth:
How´s that?
Audrey:
Are you sure, you´re interested?
Weymouth:
It´s not like I have anything else planned. My wife passed away years ago and the kids have grown up. They have their own lives now, so I don´t get much, in the way of company.
Audrey eyes him suspiciously.
Audrey:
You´re not gonna turn serial killer on me, are you?
Weymouth can´t help laughing.
Weymouth:
Not likely!
Audrey:
Sorry. I forgot, that I´m in a town, where common decency is alive and well.
Weymouth:
Let´s have a cup of coffee and talk. You remind me of my daughter, you know?
They smile at each other.
6. Ext. Harbor. Day.
Amy are sitting on a bench overlooking the water. Lilly is eating her ice cream cone with the glee of a small child. Amy can´s help smiling a little at the sight of it.
Amy (voice over):
I present to you, living proof, that leaving home doesn´t turn you into a grown up!
Lilly:
This is what I miss about Capeside. Just sitting here with a friend, looking at these gorgeous surroundings and enjoying a cone from Alberto´s Gelatos!
Amy:
They must have a hundred good ice cream places in Boston.
Lilly:
It´s not the cone itself, it´s who you enjoy it with. One piece of advice, little one. Enjoy your friends, while you have them. Once you graduate, you´ll all be off in separate worlds.
Amy:
I can´t see me and Ash losing touch.
Lilly:
Maybe not entirely losing touch, but unless you go to the same college, take the same classes and live together, it will never be the same again.
Amy:
I don´t know, what I´d do without her. She´s been such a huge part of my life, for as long as I can remember.
Lilly:
Me and Andrea were the same way, when we were your age. As inseparable, as two girls can be. Now we live 500 miles apart and all she can talk about is how great her boyfriend is. I don´t even know, if we´ll still be talking, when we reach next summer.
Amy:
I know, that I shouldn´t, but I´m counting myself lucky, that Ash is too shy to talk to boys. Ones, she doesn´t know anyway.
Lilly:
She´s a pretty little thing. It´s a matter of time, before they start noticing her.
Amy:
It´s not, that I don´t want her to find love. I want that for her more than anything. I just don´t want it to happen, at the expense of our friendship.
Lilly:
At least, you can be sure, that you won´t pull a "Pacey and Dawson"!
Amy:
It would top my "Surprises of the year" list, if that happened!
Lilly:
I know, that I say, I love college and I do. I´m making new friends from all over the country and that´s exciting in itself. But I also miss my old friends. Sitting here reminds me of them.
Amy (voice over):
I´ve always looked up to Lilly as the girl, I wanted to be like, when I became her age. I´m not doing a very good job of it, but that´s a different story. What she said, makes me think, though. Vicki is so smart, that she´s sure to go places, I won´t get to and who knows what will happen, when the boys start noticing Ash? Maybe we won´t even be friends anymore, by the time we reach college. I guess, all I can do is enjoy every moment I get with them, until the world splits us up.
7. Int. Weymouth´s House. Evening.
Audrey is enjoying talking to Weymouth.
Audrey:
Which brings us up to today. Where I found out that Dawson has been reliving the past with Joey.
Weymouth:
You´re not really in a position to complain about it.
Audrey:
Aren´t I? She´s my friend, so shouldn´t she know better?
Weymouth:
Probably and he should too. That still doesn´t mean, that you get to interfere in his love life, after you´ve broken up. Unless, you´re planning to work you way back into it?
Audrey smiles to herself.
Audrey:
How long were you and your wife together, before she passed?
Weymouth:
If you count the years, before we were married, it was close to 30 years.
Audrey:
You must have had hundreds of fights over those years.
Weymouth:
Oh, yes! I spent my share of nights on the couch.
Audrey:
But you always made up, right?
Weymouth:
There were a few times, where it took a while, but none of us ever doubted, that we should be together.
Audrey:
I think, I gave up on him too early. We has our share of fights, but the good times more than made up for it.
Weymouth:
Have you told him that?
Audrey:
No, I haven´t.
Weymouth:
I don´t know you that well, but I can tell from your face, that you want to tell him. That should tell you all, you need to know.
Audrey looks up at his clock on the wall.
Audrey:
Oops! I lost track of time!
Weymouth:
That´s what can happen, when you´re in good company.
Audrey stands up.
Audrey:
Thanks for the talk and the coffee. I´ll be sure not to be a stranger, when I come back here someday.
Weymouth:
You´ll always be welcome.
Audrey (voice over):
I hope, they aren´t fussing over me!
She hurries out.
8. Int. Gail´s House. Evening.
Dougie finishes a phone call and addresses Joey, Dawson, Pacey, Amy and Lilly.
Amy (voice over):
After our little excursion, we went back at the house, where they´re starting to worry about Audrey.
Dougie:
We can´t put out an official APB out on her, until 24 hours have passed. I´ve told the boys to be on the lookout for her.
Joey looks very worried.
Joey:
She could have fallen in the water and drowned.
Pacey:
She can swim, can´t she?
Dawson:
Not very well.
Dougie:
That´s worst case scenario. Nearly all missing people turn up within a day.
Joey:
Even those, that are emotionally unstable?
Dougie:
I remember when she rammed into the house.
Dawson:
That was back when she was drinking. Sober Audrey and drunk Audrey are completely different people.
Joey:
How can you be so calm? She could be dead!
Dawson:
Say what you want about her, but she´s a survivor. It´s one of the things I lo ... like about her.
Pacey smiles at his Freudian slip.
Joey:
I suppose, that you two looked everywhere, there was to look already.
Lilly:
Oh yeah! We were extremely thorough in our search!
She winks at Amy, who tries not to smile.
Pacey:
Would it help to calm your nerves, if me and Doug went on a ride to look for her?
Joey:
Me and Dawson can go out and look too.
Dougie:
Right now, the best thing, you can do is go back in and enjoy the party. I´m sure, she´ll be back in no time.
Joey looks a little reassured.
9. Ext. Gail´s House. Evening.
Dougie and Pacey come out, only to find Audrey casually walking up to the house.
Audrey:
Leaving so soon?
Pacey:
Where have you been?
Audrey:
Just across the street. I explained to the man, who lives there, that my dearly departed friend used to live there. He offered to let me see it and we got to talking. I guess, we lost track of time.
Dougie:
I´ll call off the search.
He goes back inside.
Audrey:
For me? I was only gone for a few hours.
Pacey:
Yeah, but given your history ...
Audrey:
You thought, that I would do something crazy. Like I would have in the old days.
Pacey:
You are the girl, who crashed a car into this house, after all.
Audrey:
I was so lucky, that Gail had house insurance! I would have been in debt for years, if she hadn´t!
Pacey can´t help laughing.
Audrey:
Pace, I´m not that messed up girl anymore and I haven´t been in a long time. There´s no need to worry about me.
Pacey:
I can´t help myself. That´s the way it is, when you care about someone.
They smile at each other.
Audrey:
They really went all out to find me? I suppose, I´d better apologize.
Pacey:
They´ll be happy to see, that you´re alright.
Audrey:
How can you forgive Joey so easily? With the history between the three of you, I would have been devastated, if it were me.
Pacey:
The old Pacey wouldn´t have. He would have spend months being mad at her and made one dumb decision after another, only to find out once again, that he can´t live without her.
Audrey:
That sounds about right.
Pacey:
We´re trying to start fresh and that means putting the past behind us. If you add up the amount of times, we´ve hurt each other, it would seem insane for us to be together.
Audrey:
Kind of like me and Dawson.
Pacey:
I can´t tell you what to do. You´re the only one who knows, what´s right for you. But I´d put the past behind me and give him another chance, if I were you.
Audrey:
Do you think, he´s ready to?
Pacey:
He has been for a long time.
Audrey smiles to herself.
Audrey (voice over):
There´s some information, I could use!
Pacey:
Are you ready to go back in?
Audrey nods and follows him inside.
10. Int. Gail´s House. Evening.
Pacey leads Audrey back in. Joey gives her a hug.
Joey:
Where have you been?
Audrey:
Talking to a very nice, elderly man.
Joey smiles.
Joey:
I´m glad, that you´re safe, but you can´t just up and leave like that.
Audrey:
I needed a break after ... hearing that.
Lilly:
Hearing what?
Dawson:
Nothing, that concerns you.
Lilly:
Come on, I´m curious! Amy can leave, if it´s not fit for children.
Amy:
I´ll take that as my cue to leave!
Audrey:
No, I think, you should know, that aunt Joey and uncle Dawson have been getting Jiggy with it!
Amy looks shocked. Lilly looks at Dawson with disappointment.
Lilly:
Not again, Bro! Have the past 20 years taught you nothing?
Dawson:
It´s not that simple ...
Lilly:
Yes, it is! You and Audrey are the two, who are meant to be together, not you and Joey! She already has the perfect guy in Pacey.
Audrey:
You should try listening to her for once, Dawson!
She storms out again.
Pacey:
You have to give her, that she knows how to make an exit!
Joey:
Amy, I should explain.
Amy:
None needed! I´ll chuck it down to adult stuff and try to forget!
Joey:
Thanks.
Dawson:
I´ll go and catch her, before she runs off again.
Lilly:
Good call.
Dawson leaves them. Pacey smiles at Lilly.
Pacey:
Thanks for the whole "Perfect Guy" part, by the way. You´re a little young for me, but it doesn´t hurt to hear.
Lilly smiles shyly back at him. Joey gets insecure and grabs Pacey´s hand. She gives Lilly a "He´s mine, so don´t even think about it" kind of look.
11. Ext. Gail´s House. Evening.
Audrey is sitting on a bench and not looking too proud of herself, when Dawson comes out to her.
Audrey:
I´m sorry, that I cause a scene. Again.
Dawson:
You´re really good at that, aren´t you?
He sits down next to her.
Audrey:
I thought, I could come here and ignore everything, that´s happened between us.
Dawson:
You´re not the only one. Then the moment, I saw you again ...
He doesn´t know how to get the words out. They make eye contact.
Audrey:
What? You can´t end a sentence like that.
Dawson:
It all washed over me again. All the great times, we had.
Audrey:
Remember our first vacation together?
Dawson:
We might as well have stayed home! We spend most of it in the hotel room!
They laugh.
Audrey:
Those were some of the best days in my life. Just being in love and not having a care in the world.
Dawson:
Mine too. I was sure, we´d be a couple until our dying day.
Audrey:
Well, you always were the romantic of us!
Dawson:
I´m not over you, you know?
Audrey:
You gave it a good shot, though.
Dawson:
I know, i was out there for a while. But I´m trying to get back to the real me.
Audrey:
I´m happy to hear it. Because I´ve always liked the real you.
They smile at each other.
Dawson:
Would it be okay, if I give you a call, when we get back to L.A?
Audrey:
I would be disappointed, if you didn´t. Now that were becoming friends again.
They head back inside.
12. Int. Dawson´s Room. Evening.
We see that Joey, Lilly and Amy have been eaves dropping on the proceedings outside.
Amy (voice over):
I know that eaves dropping isn´t a nice thing to do, but wouldn´t you want to know?
Lilly:
I´m pretty sure, they went back inside.
Amy:
What do you think is gonna happen with them?
Joey:
It´s hard to say. If they can become friends again, who knows?
Lilly:
I can´t believe, that my brother would be that thick headed again. No offense, Joey.
Joey:
None taken. But I´m as much to blame, as he is. What matters now, is that we all move on.
Amy:
I hope, they´ll work it out. It´s sad to me, when old people like them, still haven´t found someone!
Joey gives her a playful punch on the arm.
Joey:
You know, they´re the same age as me! Am I old, in your eyes?
Amy:
Kind of. I mean, you´re not really young anymore. Well, you are compared to Grand Pa. I guess, you sort of fall into the middle aged category!
Joey:
It´s actually not so bad. Even if you are single.
Amy (voice over):
God speed and the best of luck to the both of them. Now, it´s time to party!
Amy smiles to herself.
