AMY´S CREEK - S01E15 - VICTORIA´S SECRET
Disclaimer: I don´t own Dawson´s Creek or the characters from it.
Author´s Note: Sorry, you had to wait a little while for this one, but I´ve been busy with other projects and work. I hope you´re doing good out there.
1. Int. Amy´s Room. Evening.
Vicki and Amy are snuggling up on Amy´s bed, while they watch the 90´s cult classic "Election" on Amy´s TV.
Vicki (voice over):
I sometimes wish, I was like the sister character from this movie. She doesn´t exactly have the best love story in it. Her and her BFF fall for each other and if I had written it, then they would have been the perfect lesbian couple in no time. In this one however, the BFF gets freaked out over it and starts dating our heroine´s brother in stead. What I love about it, is how she deals with it afterwards. She runs for school president, well knowing that since she´s a freshman and nowhere near popular, she has zero chance of winning, so she does it as a protest against how those things are one big popularity contest. I probably would have crumbled, but she just says "screw it" and goes for it. I wish, I could do that more often.
Amy:
Would you go as far as the teacher does here?
Vicki:
To fix a high school election? No!
Amy:
No, you wouldn´t. I´ve got you figured out, Vicki. You´re almost too nice for your own good.
Vicki:
You don´t know everything about me.
Amy:
What don´t I know? You were born in Green Bay, where your dad and brother still live. You live with your mom and your dog. You like filmmaking and me and you hate snobby girls, sexism, Brussel sprouts and Grey´s Anatomy.
Vicki:
That´s not to far off!
Amy smiles at her and they kiss.
Amy:
Do you have any idea, how crazy I am about you?
Vicki:
I have an inkling.
Amy:
It sucks, that I have to be without you for the entire week.
Vicki:
My dad and my brother need to see me too.
Amy:
When do I get to meet them?
Vicki:
I can´t say for sure. Things between my parents are still pretty icy. I don´t think they hate each other, but I wouldn´t put them in the same room right now.
Amy:
I hope, I´ll never have to go through a divorce.
Vicki:
You won´t!
Amy:
How can you be sure?
Vicki:
Because I plan on keeping you to myself forever.
She pulls Amy in close and they kiss passionately.
Vicki (voice over):
That isn´t just something, I´m saying. I´m ACTUALLY that crazy about her! My mom knows that I´m a lesbian and she´s accepting of it, but no one else in my family does. It´s time, I came out to them.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Airport. Day.
Vicki comes out from the arrivals, dragging her small suitcase with her. A blonde girl, 14 year old Jessie, is delighted to see her and runs to hug her.
Jessie:
You´re finally here!
She gives Vicki a huge, tight hug.
Vicki (voice over):
That´s Jessica or Jessie for short. We were best friends for most of the time, I lived here. She was also my first crush, but I´ve never told her.
Her dad Daniel and her younger brother, 9 year old Tommy come over to them. Vicki releases the hug and smiles at them.
Vicki:
Hey, slugger. How´s it going?
Tommy:
Pretty good.
Vicki:
Can I have a hug, or are you getting too old for that?
Tommy gives her a hug.
Vicki (voice over):
That´s my little brother Tommy. The part that sucks the most about living so far apart, is that I feel like I´m missing out on so much with him. He keeps growing like crazy and I should be there as his sister, to help guide him along.
Daniel:
He´s not doing too bad. How was your flight?
Vicki:
Alright, as far as flights go. No screaming babies or loud mouths to speak of.
She gives her dad a hug.
Vicki (voice over):
That´s Daniel, my dad. It´s been almost a year, since my parents separated and I won´t pretend, that it hasn´t been hard to be without him and Tommy. Part of me still wishes, that we could go back to how things were, but it´s not looking likely. My mom had an affair and I don´t think, he´ll ever forgive her for it. She´s explained to me, why it happened and I know, that it has nothing to do with me and Tommy. Their marriage just fell into a rut and it never recovered. Things like that happen all the time.
Jessie:
We have so much, we have to do this week!
Vicki:
I´d like a quiet night at home to start off with, if that´s okay?
Daniel:
We can talk more in the car. Meter´s running.
They head for the elevators.
Vicki (voice over):
That´s my dad for you. If there´s one thing that man knows, it´s the value of a dollar!
3. Int. Car. Day.
Daniel is driving, with Tommy in the passenger seat. Vicki and Jessie are in the back.
Jessie:
I´ve had such a crazy year already! How about you?
Vicki:
I don´t know, if I´d call it crazy. Capeside isn´t the place to be, if it´s "crazy", you´re looking for, but it´s nice there. I´ve made some good friends.
Daniel:
We can´t wait to hear about them, can we, Tommy?
Tommy:
I can!
Vicki:
I´m glad to see, that you haven´t changed too much, little brother.
Jessie:
I think, that I have! In a positive way, of course. Do you think, you have?
Vicki looks a little uncomfortable, being put on the spot like that.
Vicki (voice over):
I could just blurt it out and be done with it. One awkward pause later and we´ll be back to normal.
Vicki:
I mean, I´m growing up, so I guess, I´m constantly changing.
Jessie:
Your boobs have got a lot bigger, since the last time, you were here!
The other three can´t help laughing, while Jessie doesn´t get, why they´re laughing.
Jessie:
What? I was just making an observation!
Vicki:
It´s okay, Jessie. I suppose, they have.
Jessie:
I can´t wait to hear about everything, you´ve been up to!
Vicki:
Same here.
The two girls smile at each other.
Vicki (voice over):
She is such a sweetheart and it´s not her, I´m worried about telling. If I leave the part about me having a crush on her out, then it won´t be a problem. We´ll hug it out and joke a little, like we´ve always done and that´ll be that. It´ll probably add to her cool factor at school, that she has a lesbian friend. Tommy should be an easy one too. He´s old enough to know what a lesbian is, but not old enough to be surrounded by homophobia. It´s my dad, I´m most worried about. There´s only one way to find out, but I have to time it right.
4. Int. Vicki´s Room. Day.
Vicki puts her suitcase down on the floor in her old room. It still looks like a teenage girl´s room.
Vicki (voice over):
They haven´t changed it at all. Maybe my dad is still holding on hope, that I´ll choose to live with him in stead.
Daniel comes in and they smile at each other.
Daniel:
It took a long time to get used to not having you here. Don´t judge me, but I sometimes come in here and pretend, that things were still like they used to be.
Vicki:
Since when have I judged you over anything?
Daniel:
I sometimes wonder, if you blame me.
Vicki:
No, I never have. What happened between you and mom sucks, but I understand why you did, what you had to do.
Daniel:
That´s nice to hear. I´m still not sure how I´m doing with that whole moving on thing, though. Being a single dad with a 9 year old son living with you, doesn´t make dating easier. Is your mom seeing anyone?
Vicki:
She isn´t there either, dad. I don´t think she´s been on a single date, since you split up. If she has, then she´s done a great job of keeping it a secret.
Daniel looks relieved.
Daniel:
I know, I shouldn´t think of it that way, but it´s nice in a morbid sort of way to know, that she´s having the same problems. How about you? Have you found a boyfriend, to keep you warm during those cold winters up there?
Vicki:
I´ve become friends with a couple of boys. As for an actual boyfriend, it´s been a dud.
Daniel:
You still have your entire life to get there. Have you found a new best friend?
Vicki:
Her name is Amy. It´s thanks to her, that I became friends with the others.
Daniel:
Would you say, you´re fitting in?
Vicki:
I would. I mean, it´s not like there´s a lot of things going on in Capeside on a day to day basis, but I like it there.
Daniel:
Do you ever miss us?
Vicki can see, that her dad needs to hear that she does and takes his hand.
Vicki:
Yeah. Of course, I do.
Daniel looks pleased.
Vicki (voice over):
It´s not exactly a lie, but I don´t miss them as much, as I did at first. I feel sorry for my dad, though. He too nice of a guy, that he should have to be alone.
5. Ext. House. Morning.
Vicki comes out of the house and meets up with Jessie.
Vicki (voice over):
I didn´t do much on my first night back, but it was fun to play with Tommy again after so long. I could tell from looking at my dad, that he was enjoying having both of his kids under one roof again. Today is dedicated to Jessie.
Vicki:
What are our plans?
Jessie:
I was thinking we could go to the mall and maybe down to the ice rink tonight?
Vicki:
Sounds nice.
Jessie:
I have a surprise for you, I think you´ll like.
Vicki:
You know me. I love surprises!
Vicki (voice over):
Or at least, I used to!
She tries her best to look enthusiastic.
6. Int. Clothing Store. Day.
Vicki and Jessie are looking through the various clothes displayed.
Vicki (voice over):
I´ve never been the kind of girl, who can spend hours going from one clothing store to the next and not buy anything, but Jessie is. With me, it´s if I go in a store, then it´s because I´m planning to buy something. Her mind works a little differently than mine.
Jessie picks up a shirt and holds it front of herself.
Jessie:
This is kinda cute, don´t you think?
Vicki:
Yeah. Are you gonna buy it?
Jessie:
I can´t afford to. I´ve saved up my allowance for months, so we could have fun this week. I didn´t want to say anything in front of your dad, but things haven´t been on the miserable side, since you left.
Vicki:
What´s wrong?
Jessie:
Everything. I can´t find anyone to replace you and we don´t have money for more than the essentials, since my mom got fired. Every time I get asked to go somewhere, it´s always something that costs money, so I have to say no. In stead I get to sit in my room alone and do nothing every day.
Vicki:
It sounds very lonely.
Jessie:
It is.
She folds up the shirt and puts it back with a sad look on her face. Vicki feels sorry for her.
Vicki (voice over):
I didn´t think I was living the high life, but compared to Jessie and my dad, I am. I wish, I could do something to fix it for them.
Vicki:
What do you say, I buy us a milk shake?
Jessie:
Sure. I haven´t had a milk shake in ages.
Vicki takes her arm and they leave the store.
7. Int. Mall. Day.
Vicki and Jessie are sitting on a bench and enjoying their milk shakes.
Vicki (voice over):
I can´t fix everything for poor Jessie, but I can at least cheer her up. I haven´t forgotten how to do that.
Vicki:
Remember that camping trip, you went on with me and my family?
Jessie:
How can I forget? I had the time of my life that week.
Vicki:
Me too. It´s a shame, that we can´t go back and enjoy it some more.
Vicki (voice over):
We were 9 on said camping trip. It was while Jessie´s dad was still fighting against Cancer and my parents decided to ask her along, so it could take her mind off it. We were friends before then, but that was the week where we became like sisters. When Jessie´s dad died a few months after, she made me take an oath, that I would never leave her side.
Jessie:
Don´t you wish, you could go back? Back to before everything became complicated and you didn´t have a ton of things to worry over?
Vicki:
This is just a slump, Jessie. You´ll find new friends soon and then things won´t seem so bleak. Like I did.
Jessie:
Am I still your best friend?
Vicki:
You will ALWAYS be my best friend. No one could ever replace you.
Jessie looks relieved.
Vicki:
Again, I´m not lying! Amy is more of a girlfriend/best friend combo. That´s different!
Jessie:
You really haven´t met a single guy there, you want to go out with?
Vicki:
The few good ones are already taken.
Vicki (voice over):
This is your chance. Just say "Jessie, I have something, I need to tell you. I don´t like boys in that way and I never have".
Vicki:
Jessie, I ehm ...
Jessie:
You can tell me, whatever it is.
Vicki:
I ... have a ... girlfriend?
Vicki (voice over):
Yes, I did it! Let´s see how she reacts.
Jessie looks very surprised.
Jessie:
As in a girl, you make out with, kind of girlfriend?
Vicki:
That kind. I think, I´ve always known, since I was little.
Jessie doesn´t say anything and stares out into the air, as she tries to let it sink in.
Jessie:
Did you ever like me that way?
Vicki:
No. I love you, but it´s as a friend. I´m sorry, if it weirds you out, but I had to tell you.
Jessie:
No, it´s fine. Whatever makes you happy, I suppose.
She smiles at Vicki, but it´s clearly a fake smile.
Vicki (voice over):
I guess you could say, that went fifty percent, like I wanted it to.
8. Int. Ice Rink. Evening.
Vicki and Jessie are putting on their skates. There´s plenty of kids down at the rink.
Vicki (voice over):
This was our favorite place to come, when we were kids. We both had passes for the entire year, so we would go down here after school almost every day. Out on the ice, you can forget about everything and just concentrate on skating. It´s almost like a zen experience of something.
Vicki:
You still haven´t told me, what my surprise is.
Jessie:
Oh, that. I´m not sure, you´ll like it now. I asked Andy to come down here.
Vicki:
Andy, my Junior High Prom date?
Jessie:
He asks about you sometimes. I think, he still likes you. If I´d known that you´re ...
Vicki:
It´s okay. I know, you had the best intentions. Who knows, it could be fun to see him again!
Vicki (voice over):
As fun as having your eyes poked out with a spoon!
Andy, a nerdy looking 15 year old skates over to them. His friend Dwight follows after him.
Andy:
Hi, Vicki. It´s great to see you again.
Vicki:
Hi, Andy. Hey, Dwight.
Dwight:
Hey.
Vicki (voice over):
If you´re wondering if I was popular here, then I give you exhibit A, dear members of the jury. Andy was the only boy, who asked me to go to the prom with him. I only said yes, because I felt sorry for him.
Vicki and Jessie skate out onto the ice. Andy tries to take her hand, but she acts like she doesn´t notice it.
9. Int. Ice Rink. Evening.
Vicki is taking a short break from skating, which would be nice, if it wasn´t for Andy hanging on to her constantly. She stretches her legs out.
Vicki (voice over):
If there´s any textbooks out there on how to turn a guy down without outing yourself, then please let me know!
Vicki:
I´m paying the prize for not skating for months!
Andy:
I can massage it, if you want.
Vicki:
No, it´s not that bad.
Vicki (voice over):
It is, but the thought of his hands groping my leg, is enough to make me gag.
Andy:
So, Jessie told me, that you haven´t found a boyfriend. I´m still single too.
Vicki:
I´ve been so busy, that I haven´t had any time for a boyfriend.
Andy:
I keep thinking back to our special night together.
He tries to take her hand, but she doesn´t let him.
Vicki:
Andy, I think, you got the wrong idea. I´ve never liked you that way.
Andy:
But we went to the prom together.
Vicki:
I only went with you, because you were the only one, who asked me.
Andy gets mad and stands up.
Andy:
I did everything, I could to give you the best prom, I could!
Jessie and Dwight come up to them.
Dwight:
What´s going on?
Andy:
I just found out that this bitch was leading me on the entire time!
Vicki gets mad now and stands up.
Vicki:
What did you call me?
Andy:
That´s what you call girls, who take advantage of guys!
Jessie has heard enough and pulls Vicki away. Dwight comes over to support Andy.
Dwight:
Forget about her. She isn´t worth getting worked up over.
Andy starts to calm down.
10. Ext. Ice Rink. Evening.
Vicki walks away from the Ice Rink, as fast as she can. Jessie hurries to catch up with her.
Jessie:
I´m sorry about those jerks.
Vicki:
How could you take their side?
Jessie:
I didn´t, but I can´t go to war against them either. You´re the one, who left me behind! You swore that you wouldn´t, but you did it anyway!
Vicki stops walking and turns to look Jessie in the eyes.
Vicki:
We were 9, when we made that oath. I´m sorry that things aren´t like you want them to, but it´s not my fault.
Jessie:
Now you´re gay and you have this new great life. You can´t blame me for being jealous.
Vicki:
I realize, that I kind if sprung in on you out of nowhere. It´s okay, if it takes you a while to get used to it.
Jessie:
You really never thought of me that way?
Vicki looks surprised.
Vicki:
That´s what this is about?
Jessie:
Not that I´d want to, but yeah, I feel a little insulted! If anyone put in the work to make you like them, it was me! Am I not pretty enough, is that it?
Vicki can´t help herself from laughing a little. Jessie calms down and does so too.
Jessie:
Sorry. I can hear now, how that might have sounded.
Vicki:
I wasn´t going to tell you, but in this case I think, it´s okay. You were my first crush.
Jessie:
Why didn´t you say anything?
Vicki:
Because I know, that you´re straight.
Jessie:
Of course. You have gay-dar now!
Vicki:
And I´ve heard you ramble on for hours on end, about how cute this boy or that boy is. I was afraid, that it would ruin our friendship, if I told you.
Jessie:
It would take something a gazillion times worse than that, to ruin this friendship!
Jessie invites Vicki in for a hug and they hug tightly.
11. Int. Vicki´s Room. Evening.
Vicki and Jessie are lying in bed together and are ready for bed.
Jessie:
You´re not gonna grope me, while I sleep, are you?
Vicki:
If I do, then I´ll be real careful, so you don´t wake up.
Jessie:
Have you had sex with your girlfriend yet?
Vicki:
Not yet. We´re slowly working our way up to it. Kissing is still wild enough for the both of us.
Jessie:
I couldn´t see myself doing that with a girl. No offense.
Vicki:
Why should I be offended, because you´re like most other girls?
Jessie:
How did you know, that she liked girls too?
Vicki:
I kind of tricked her into the first kiss. At that time, all I had was a hunch.
Jessie:
What´s the most romantic moment, you´ve had so far? Let me live vicariously through you.
Vicki:
That would be our first real kiss. When our lips met, it was like an explosion of joy going through my entire body! If you can call a kiss life changing, then that´s what I´d call it.
Jessie looks happy for her friend.
Jessie:
I hope, I´ll find that some day.
Vicki:
I´m sure, that it won´t be long. When you do, it´s like a whole new world opens up to you.
Jessie:
Is everyone accepting of you back in Capeside?
Vicki:
The ones who matter are. As for the rest, it´s a mixed bag.
Jessie:
It doesn´t change anything to me. In my eyes, you´re still the exact same Vicki, I grew up with.
Vicki looks relieved.
Vicki (voice over):
If everyone reacts that way, then I´ll be more than satisfied.
12. Int. Car. Morning.
Vicki is in the passenger seat next to Daniel, who´s driving.
Vicki (voice over):
What did I learn this week? Well, for one thing I´m happier with my own life, so that´s something. I decided to wait with telling my dad and my little brother, until the next time I see them. Maybe I won´t even do it then, but I´ll have to eventually. I can´t hide who I am from them, for the rest of my life. Telling Jessie was a big enough step for this one visit. We talked for dozens hours over this past week and by the end of it, we we´re back to usual. Maybe that´s how it will go with everyone. I´m not like Amy, who can just blurt it out there and not care about the consequences. I have to do this my way and if that takes time, then that´s fine too. I´ve only just turned 15, for heaven´s sake! It´s not like I have to hurry with it.
Daniel:
When will we see you again?
Vicki:
It´ll be a while. Probably not until the summer.
Daniel:
You could bring that new friend of yours. We´d love to meet her.
Vicki:
I can always ask. I´m not sure, what her plans for the summer are.
Daniel:
You can tell her, that she´ll be welcome, if she decides to come along.
Vicki (voice over):
Would she still be, if he knew what her and I do, when we´re alone together? Only time will tell, I guess.
Vicki smiles to herself.
