Prologue

It was about eleven at night and the cat's owner was asleep. Where does he go every Saturday night? The cat thought. And what is this thing he mentions? This thing called Wild Side? Whatever it was, Kernel the cat wanted to know. He jumped on his owner's bed and touched the brick-looking thing connected to a wire. The front of the brick lit up. What is this? Kernel thought. Kernel touched the brick again with his muzzle and then a bunch of numbers popped up.

What are those symbols? Thought Kernel. He saw his owner tap on them before. He would tap the symbol that looked like a backwards E, the symbol that resembled the letter I, and the one that looked like an infinity symbol flipped sideways. Kernel touched the symbols and then the screen changed. Little squares were on the screen. He saw this one that read "Maps."

Kernel knew what a map was. He thought they were these pieces of paper with weird letters and pictures on them. Kernel clicked on it and a new screen appeared. Kernel saw some recent words his owner had typed in: Pet stores, a place called Burger Queen, a place called Dairy King, and a place called Wild Side. It was the one at the top.

My owner went here yesterday, Kernel remembered. He accidentally touched it with his tail and then a bunch of lines and arrows showed up. The magical brick with a screen made noise that sounded like someone saying: In 1000 feet, turn right. Kernel didn't want to wake up his owner, so he ran out of there with the brick in his mouth.

Ahh, Kernel thought. So this is where he goes every Saturday!
