Author's Note: Don't read my story if you don't want to get spoiled on manga content, my content will have references up to the latest chapters.

I got into the Spy x Family manga around when chapter 50 was released (so around the cruise arc) and I have never binged a series so hard in my life. I think it took me 3 hours to read everything, and then I reread it, and reread it multiple times. Then the recent chapter 62 (part 1, 2 and 3) came out and ripped my heart apart while the new anime adaptation stitched it back together. It's safe to say I'm completely obsessed with this series. So as more content on it comes out in the manga, so will my stories on it.

This story practically has it all: political intrigue, action, friendship, family, comedy, romance, supernatural, SPORTS (lol), commentary on war, espionage, just the whole shebang. There was a reason why Spy x Family had over 15 million copies in circulation in just 9 volumes (about 1.6 million copies average per volume) before the first episode even released. It is also the most viewed manga on Shonen Jump Plus so yeah, the hype around it, both manga and anime, is pretty well deserved. Tatsuya Endo is a master at blending and balancing so many different genres so effortlessly without making them feel out of place and that is absolutely amazing. The action is dynamic and easy to follow, the art is sharp and clean, the comedy is witty and charming, the characters are outstandingly written and full of life, the world-building is phenomenal, and the fluff and wholesome moments have made me shed tears more times than I can count. Just pure ELEGANCE! I can not praise that man enough for giving us such a powerhouse of a manga.

The anime is going to do wonders for this already successful manga series. If Spy x Family correctly adapts the Bond arc and possibly the tennis arc, then season 1 of Spy x Family is set to be one of the most successful anime in the industry just like it is in the manga industry.

I think there's enough content and context for me to finally start my first Spy x Family story, so let's do this.

The story starts off near the end of chapter 12. It will continue on from there. For the anime, it should be episode 8 from where this story diverges from.

Here are some mechanics in my story that are important to understand:

Italics = Flashback/imagined scenario - Example: Yor stared at the clock on the wall. Loid had left an hour ago, while Anya was still asleep in her bed. "Good morning Anya." Yor said quietly into her daughter's ears.

"Italics" = Thoughts - Example: "Did I mess up somewhere? Why is Anya so despondent?" Loid thinks in worry. "Think Twilight. Think!"

* ... * = Anya mind reading - Examples: *"She is... nice-looking, I guess."* Damian wonders. Anya blinks rapidly, wondering if she heard that correctly. OR *Yor rapidly stabs at the man's arteries, causing blood to splatter everywhere on Anya's face and dress.* Anya deadpans at her mother's wild thoughts.

Disclaimer: I do not own Spy x Family, all rights go to Tatsuya Endo

"You've faked relationships with dozens of women before this." Twilight reminds himself. "If just a kiss or two can save this mission, then..."

From Regina, Carla, Kelly, Selena, and most recently Karen. He had played those women on the palm of his hands. He had kissed them, gave them everything they wanted, everything their hearts desired. He knew them all from their passions, to their personality, to their dreams, to every singular mole marked on their bodies before he left them when their uses came to an end. They were all the means to an end.

For that... is the life of a spy.

It is his job, his life, and along with it, the lives of the people he fights for, the countless children he swore to himself to never let the same fate he suffered befall them.

Twilight is a manipulator, a liar, a monster, whatever the situation calls him to be. He is ruthless, cunning, and a man on a mission. He had fought in the Westalis-Ostania War, stopped a nuclear threat, infiltrated the world's most vilest terrorist organizations, and survived the most stressful interview of his life.

All of that for him to act like an awkward teenager with the woman sitting next to him.

Yor is an anomaly. From the day he first met her, she avoided his ever careful gaze. She slipped past him and caught him off guard. He cursed himself for becoming so soft. He had gotten sloppy the day he met Anya. His pink-haired "daughter" has something about her that makes Twilight calm, a facet of him that he hadn't experienced in years until the moment he held her up into the air, celebrating the child's accomplishment.

He did not understand the reason for the break of that wall, that barrier he's always held up to hide a huge chunk of his heart. Maybe that was his Loid persona overtaking his mentality, something only a father could feel. Or maybe he was truly getting soft. Twilight knew one of his very few weaknesses were that his many different faces could alter bits of him. He is not perfect, no one is. He has had close calls with... personal attachments that nearly costed him his missions. He did not know who to blame, the circumstances or him.

Who was he really? With all the masks he's thrown on and the past he's thrown out...

No...

It doesn't matter who he was...

It matters who he is now. That is to be Yor's husband, the kind and loving Loid Forger. His eyes open. He looks calmly at Yuri, careful to keep his face cool and collected, the face of a man who has been intimate with his wife.

If one kiss is all it takes to maintain cover then...

"If that's what it's going to take, fine." He says smoothly.

As expected, Yor twists her head to him so fast he thinks it might come clean off. "What?!"

Her face is tomato red, her mouth slacking down in shock. "Loid, wait—"

"Just like we do everyday." He lies smoothly. "Sorry, Yor."

Loid places his hand gently on the middle of her bare back and leans forward, keeping a steady gaze on his flustered wife.

For all the killing she had done, for all the lives she had taken, for all the blood splattered on her hands and the horrors she had seen and had done, nothing comes close in fear (not even bugs) for Yor Forger than the hand of her husband on her back and the warm, yet calculated eyes on hers.

"K-kiss? We're going to kiss?! I don't even know what..." Her mind drifts to the delicious dish Loid made for them. "Oh, right! I read somewhere that first kisses taste like lemon? So it'll be just like that marinade! So don't panic, Yor! Keep it together now..."

"Shall we?" Loid's smooth voice vibrates as he looms slowly over her.

She panics even more so. "H-hold on just a moment, please!"

She swipes the wine bottle off the table and rips open the cork. "Alcohol, give me your strength!"

"Hey!" Loid yells out but she can barely register it.

Cool red liquid travels down her throat as Yor's mind becomes foggier. Much better...

"No way I can do this sober." She hiccups, wiping the wine from her chin. "Okay. Let's do thith."

Loid looks at her in worry. "R-right..."

He leans in forward more before stopping and raising his hand to whisper "Listen... if you don't want to... we can find another way..."

"No, this is for my sake too. I can do it." Yor whispers backs. She can't worry Yuri now. They were in too far deep to take back the lie. "You can do thith Yor. For Yuri, and for your job. You can't fail now..."

"What's with all the whispering?!" Yuri barks out in drunk rage. "Can you do this or not? If you're a real couple, then show me!"

The loud noise is annoying her, giving her a massive headache. Her hand finds the nearest fork, throwing it at right next to her little brother's face. It grazes the edge of the skin on his cheek, opening a small cut, and imbeds itself into the wall on his right. Blood drips down Yuri's face but she's too drunk to really care.

"Shut it, Yuri! We're abouth to show you the depth of our love!" She yells back in annoyance.

"W...Wha..."

She turns back to Loid and places a hand gently on his chest. Yor stares softly into his eyes as Loid looks back nervously. She hopes she can do it right and sell the act. "Here goes nothing."

"Close your eyes darling. I'm coming in." She says.

"W-wait, you don't—" Yuri says faintly in the background.

Loid looks taken aback. "Um... Yor...?"

Yor takes a breath and slackens her jaw, moving stray strand of hair near her mouth away.

"This is it." Her mind echoes. Her first kiss will be given to Loid Forger, the man who stumbled into her life and gave her a chance to continue her job freely. The man who gave her the chance to feel like what it is to be a real mother, to give her the joy of spending time with Anya. The man who might be the only one who can truly accept her for who she is. "This is the man who is worth giving my first kiss to."

She leans in slowly and he closes his eyes for her.

"Y-yor! You're being so lewd! Nooo!" Yuri cries out.

He is in shock. To think his beloved sister would share a kiss with some mysterious stranger he hasn't even known for less than an hour...

A nine-year old Yuri rushes through the door, holding his sheets of paper. It is an amazing day for him today. He could not wait to share what happened with his sister. He sees her wiping the dining table and he runs up to her, extending out his test.

"Yor! Yor! Look!" He beams brightly, extremely proud of himself. "I got the highest score in my whole class."

"That's incredible!" A sixteen-year old Yor replies happily, smiling in joy. "Here's a kiss for your reward!"

She pecks him softly on the cheek. His cheeks redden brightly and he nearly cries. Yuri has never felt so much joy. To be loved and praised by Yor is all he ever wants for the rest of his life. She has taken care of him ever since their parents had died. She gets blood on her whenever she comes back from her weird jobs and he doesn't like that. He never wants her to suffer for his sake, ever again.

He hears from his classmates that married people often are happier, whose parents have better support. They talk about how their parents are always happy around each other. Maybe if he marries Yor, he can give her the same thing their parents had. He wants Yor to be happy forever!

Yuri fidgets. It is embarrassing to say but he has to do it. For Yor!

"When I grow up, I wanna marry you." He says shyly, looking nervously at the floor.

"Aww! Then I guess I'll just have to save myself until then!" Yor says enthusiastically, her cheeks still pink with joy. "Better grow up soon!"

Yuri stares in dread as his sister descends upon Loi-loi. He can stop her, but...

He needs to know if they are actually in love. Her safety and happiness is more important than his own feelings. No matter how much he doesn't want to see Yor kissing a creep he barely has a damn clue about, he needs to see if they will actually follow through. If Yor pulls back then he'll have more the incentive to investigate the "husband". Besides, if he stops her, she might hate him.

"She needs to stop on her own. I can't force her to stop". He thinks hard through the fog in his mind. "Focus Yuri. Don't let them test you. You're supposed to be testing them!"

He bites his lips hard, drawing blood. Fists clenching tightly, Yuri keeps himself still.

He glares at the couple intensely. "If she pulls back, it's over for you, Loid Forger."

There is darkness in the space around Twilight. Time feels slower than usual as he waits for Yor's lips to touch his. What is taking so long? The longer this goes on, the more Yuri will get suspicious and break him and Yor up. Even worse, the brother might start to investigate him if the kiss doesn't follow through. Now that he has Anya as his daughter enrolled in school, he might have just put her in the crossfire with the secret police if this goes wrong. He can't leave Anya behind, especially since Operation Strix was still underway.

"Come on, Yor!" He panics in his head. They were in too deep to back out now. "I need you right now!"

Something soft touches his lips.

Finally...

The feeling carries on and Twilight loses himself into the Loid persona. The perfect and ideal husband kisses his wife with love and passion. That's all they need to satisfy and fool Yuri.

Teeth then gnashes against his lips and a tongue slobbers around his mouth. His eyes explode open and he sees Yor with her eyes closed, face pressed against his.

"Does she not know how to kiss?!" He panics frantically as she attacks him with her mouth. "None of my targets ever kissed this badly! This is horrible! Yuri is going to suspect something!"

"I wonder if I'm doing this right." Yor thinks curiously. Kissing Yuri on the cheek when he was little was easy but she doesn't know if on the lips would be the same. "I remember hearing Camille say her boyfriend loves it when she uses her tongue and teeth."

"Shiiiiiiiiiiit! They're actually in love!" Yuri screams in his head, his jaw slacks in shock as blood continues dripping down his lips. "Do they actually get this nasty? To think my dear sister is this lewd! Oh how she has been defiled by Loi-loi! What about their activities in the... no! Don't think about it, Yuri! Does this mean I have to accept this man as my brother-in-law?! I can't bear to watch this any longer!"

"STOOOOOOOPP!" Yuri cries out, covering his eyes with both hands. "I GET IT! I GET IT! I GET IT!"

Yor pulls back, turning to her brother. "Oh good, I'm glad that you can see we're happily married and love each other." She says shyly, cheeks pinking even more.

Loid smiles at Yuri, chuckling abashedly. "As you can see, my wife and I are very passionate. I apologize if that was a bit off-putting for you."

Yuri's hands left his eyes. He walks to the table and grabs the wine bottle before chugging down its content violently. "Alcohol, make the pain go away!"

"Yuri slow down! That's too much!" Yor cries out before grabbing his hand and yanking the bottle away. "You'll make yourself sick with that much alcohol. I thought I taught you better." She scolds.

"Heh. You don't need... to baby me. You're more... of an... alcoholic... than I am, sis." Yuri chuckles drunkenly, hiccupping. "Thath wath disgusting... to watch."

"Well you asked for it. You get what you get and you don't throw a fit." Yor giggles. "But you did anyways!"

Loid watches the two siblings laughing happily with each other.

"You wish you have something like this. These people have what you always wanted." An unknown voice in his head whispers. It is faint, yet oddly familiar. "We have nothing left for ourselves, always fighting for others."

It isn't Twilight. Twilight never cares for anything outside his mission. Twilight is the master spy of Westalis. Loid is the husband and father. But this voice is...

Loid exhales out and walks forward. "Have we convinced you, Yuri? Do we have your blessings?" He asks with a gentle smile. It is fake just like everything that he is. Loid Forger is a living lie. Twilight is a means to an end. He is a river that flows, a tide that fluctuates in a stream of circumstances. Any rocks before him causes a change, a shift in personality, in identity. In the end, he doesn't know who he truly is anymore.

Loid puts a hand on Yuri's shoulder. "It would be an honor to be your brother-in-law. Seeing you get along with Yor so well makes me even more excited to learn more about you. Since I love Yor so much, I know I'll come to love you a lot as well."

"You both have supported each other through so much. Thank you for all you've done to protect my wife. Let's work together to give Yor the happiness she deserves." Loid finishes with a bright smile.

Yor blushes hard at him calling her "his wife". It is all an act. It doesn't mean anything, just like the kiss. But then, why does she feel a slight sting in her heart?

Yuri stares at Loid before groaning, taking the man's hand off his shoulder. "I can't deny what I saw here. Fine... I'll... I'll... you have my blessing... brother." He grumbles before taking standing up and walking to grab his suitcase. He heads to the door.

"I'm going home." Yuri says, face red from drinking. "Thank you for having me over."

"You sure you don't want to stay over tonight?" Loid asks. "It's pretty dark and it is rather dangerous to go home by yourself drunk."

"We have a spare guest room for you, Yuri." Yor offers with a bright smile. "You're welcome to stay with us."

Yuri's cheeks puffs up as he turns from a bright red to a dark green. "No... I definitely... don't want to do that." He says, hand covering his mouth.

"Well then, safe travels home!" Yor says as Yuri opens the door.

Yuri turns to look at Loid, eyes sharpening with intensity. "You may have my blessing Loi-loi, but you're not off the hook yet. If you dare hurt my sister, if you dare make her shed a single tear I'll... damn it. Just remember that!"

"Yuri, I'll keep her safe and happy. No matter what." Loid says smoothly. A lie, but a needed one to help ease suspicions. "Come visit us again soon."

"Well then, goodbye." Yuri nods in satisfaction. "I look forward to meeting your little brat next time... brother."

He turns Yor. "Bye Yor! Thanks for having me over! I can't wait to see you again soon!" He beams brightly.

Yor claps happily. "Me too, Yuri! Thank you for visiting us! I can't wait for you to meet Anya, she's such a joy!"

"I'm sure she is!"

"Bye!"

"Bye!"

The door closes and the footsteps recede off into the distance.

Twilight scans the room to see if there are any listening devices. Nothing. He lets out a relieved breath. Too close for comfort but Yuri was off his back, for now.

"I think we're safe." He walks towards Yor, handing the dirty dishes and glasses to her. "The secret police are capable of anything. And Yuri in particular... gotta tread carefully."

"Thank you for tonight, Loid." Yor says, scrubbing the dishes. "I'm sorry about my brother's intense behavior, he's normally not like that. He has trouble trusting a lot of people ever since our parents had passed. It's always been just me and him for so long. But I promise he's very sweet, if... no... when he comes to love you, he'll love you with all his heart. I'm sure that will extend to Anya as well. It means a lot to me that you're willing to accept him as family."

"It's alright, Yor. I could tell how much he loves you. It puts a smile to my face to see two people care so much for each other." Loid hands her a plate." As someone who doesn't have friends or family I can rely on— besides my daughter— I envy you two a little."

He has no one one. Everyone he ever cared about were gone. He can't remember his mom's face, his dad's, his friends. The bombings... the war... the gunfire... the screams... the...

"L-loid! You're shaking!" Yor calls out.

He stops, looking down at his shaking hands.

"Sorry."

"Are you okay?"

"I'm alright."

Loid turns to Yor, forcing himself to stop shaking. "I'm glad Yuri didn't find out our marriage was a sham."

"That reminds me! I'm s-sorry if I kissed you badly!" Yor stutters. "That was..."

She pauses, as if contemplating something. Loid raises an eyebrow. "Was that your first kiss?" He asks gently.

Yor's cheeks brighten red. "Yes." She mumbles. "I'm sorry if that wasn't as good as when your past wife kissed you."

He blinks, his cheeks flushing slightly. "I would never compare you to my past wife, Yor. That is entirely inappropriate. There's no need to worry about how good of a kisser you are." He reassures her. "Especially since I don't have a past wife."

Though, she is the worst kisser of all the women he's kissed in the past. However, he understands her position. When Operation Strix is over, he won't tie her down to him anymore. She can kiss all the people she truly loves and gain all the experience she could ever want. Something he can never truly have. Twilight kisses to gain intel, all technique, without an ounce of genuine feelings. Loid just had his first and possibly his last.

In the back of his head, he wonders what it would feel like to fall in love. He wonders if there would be any changes to kiss with love.

"But what if Yuri tries to get us to do it again? Do... we need to practice?" Yor asks nervously, fiddling with her fingers.

"Considering his reaction to you 'kissing' me, I don't think we have to worry about that anymore." Loid chuckles, rinsing off a plate. "Besides, I think that was just a one-time thing. No brother wants to see his sister kissing a man in front of him. That is rather gross. We should be safe."

"Oh... good."

"What's wrong, Yor?"

"Nothing."

"Well, alright." Loid looks at Yor curiously, whose cheeks are still red in embarrassment.

The Forger couple finish dish-cleaning minutes later.

After drying their hands, Yor stretches her arms out. "Right! Now that that's over, l just want to curl up and go to bed. Shall we?"

"Let's." Loid nods in agreement.

The two stare at the love bed. The two "yes" pillows seem to be taunting them for some reason. The heart on the blanket is vibrant red, glowing extravagantly in the light.

"In separate beds, of course!" Loid reassures. "I'll get rid of that!"

"R-right." Yor stutters in agreement.

Yor lays down on her bed and stares at the ceiling.

"What a day it's been." The kiss had managed to fool her brother but she wonders... "What would have happened if I was too embarrassed and backed out?"

No.

Don't think about it now. She'll worry about it tomorrow. Besides...

It seems like Yuri and Loid are slowly bonding. She couldn't be happier.

Yor Forger closes her eyes and fades into sleep with a small smile on her lips.

Twilight reads through the pages of the Spy Wars comic. It was too close of a call. The lovey-dovey marriage kit wasn't effective on Yuri as he thought it would be. They were almost caught. Operation Strix was nearly jeopardized. That can't happen again.

He thinks back to the two Briar's laughing with each other. There is a clear connection and love the two share.

The voice...

"When was the last time I was envious of other people?" He snaps the book shut. There is no point. Spies shouldn't get jealous. Emotions endanger the mission. He nearly jeopardized the mission when he went to punch that bastard Swan in the face. He had barely stopped himself in time. Twilight grits his teeth in frustration before taking a deep breath to calm himself.

"I should sleep. I'm probably just tired." He murmurs to himself as he slips into his bed and pulls his lamp light. "Tomorrow's another day of quality time with my mission..."

Loid Forger closes his eyes and fades into sleep with a frown on his lips.
