Let Me Call You Sweetheart Chapter 2, Page 11
It was Wednesday and Nathan's favorite ladies were ready to do some shopping at Dotties. Emily walked up to the school and waited for Allie and Dee to finish lessons. As soon as they were ready, off they went to town. Dottie and Rosemary were both there ready and waiting.
"Hello ladies!" Dottie had a huge smile as she welcomed them in.
"Have we got the perfect selection for all three of you" Rosemary declared. "First of all I need to get your measurements." as she grabbed her tape measure.
"Oh my," Emily said apprehensively.
"Not to worry dear," Dottie reassured her, "we have a screen you can step behind. So who wants to go first?"
"Me!" Allie excitedly said.
"C'mon with me missy," Rosemary grabbed her hand.
While Allie was getting measured, Dee and Emily looked at the dresses that were hanging on the racks. There were quite a few in different styles and colors. On the table were matching gloves, handkerchiefs, scarfs, and handbags. The rack next to the table held hats with shoes on shelves. Inside the glass cash register cabinet there were rings, necklaces, lockets, earrings, and pins. Everything a lady would need, was there.
"These are so lovely"! Dee said as she looked through the dresses. "We need dresses for the engagement dinner party, and Emily will need a dress for the wedding suitable for the mother of the groom." she told Dottie. "Of course, I will need a bridal dress and Allie a bridesmaid dress. My sister, Dorothy will be here for the engagement party so since she's staying overnight, we can come over with Allie to pick them both out new dresses for the wedding."
Dottie was very pleased with all the orders Dee was rattling off. She had returned to Hope Valley just in time for the wedding! Allie and Rosemary came out from behind the screen, and Rosemary called Emily over to get measured next. Allie was just as excited as Dee looking at all the dresses and accessories.
"Allie, we need to find you a pink bridesmaid dress for the wedding, but the engagement dinner party is yours to pick!" Dee gave her a hug. Rosemary went through the racks in her size and found a few dresses with different styles.
"Do you need a new petticoat?" Dee asked.
"I think she needs other undergarments," Rosemary winked as she and Emily came out from behind the screen.
"All right Dee, let's get your measurements now, and then we can get right to business!"
Emily looked at the hats and admired a few. "Let's pick out a dress first, then we can look through the accessories." Dottie suggested.
"Maybe a blouse and skirt might do for the dinner party," Emily thought. I can use what I have and just buy a new hat and gloves. Then, I can use my money for a nice dress for the wedding."
"Emily, are you sure? You are the mother of the groom. Don't you want something new to wear to the party?" Rosemary asked from behind the screen.
"Ya, but I have a few good Sunday clothes that I can use." Emily stated. "I will get a new dress for the wedding for sure."
"Bring your blouse and skirt tomorrow and let's match up some accessories for you. As far as the wedding goes, we have several months, but if you find something here now, we will alter it to fit you perfectly and we can match shoes and gloves too." Dottie suggested.
Dee was looking at a few dresses for the party and found one that she really liked. There wasn't too much to do to it as it seemed to fit her almost perfectly. Dee zeroed in on the blue dresses being her favorite color. There was one that when she tied it on, it fit like a glove."I'll need a nice pair of dress shoes and something to match for my hair."
"You look stunning!" Emily complimented Dee.
"It's the bees' knees!" Allie smiled.
Allie was so excited and giggling as she tried on new undergarments and couldn't decide on a dress. "There are so many cute dresses here, can I think about it and tell you tomorrow? I want to get the perfect one!"
"Let's not forget the new shoes!" Emily reminded her.
Rosemary showed her ones with a little heel and after measuring her foot, found it in her size. "There you go Allie!" Rosemary smiled.
"You can come with your grandmother when she brings her skirt and blouse.
We'll find a pretty necklace when you come tomorrow to tell us which dress you want to wear." Dottie said. "You three will be quite the eye catchers!"
