Let Me Call You Sweetheart Chapter 2, Page 13
Rosemary listened to Dee sadly tell her that her family wasn't going to make the engagement dinner. Dee was disappointed and lost some of her enthusiasm. "I know that they don't have the money to come down here twice, so I don't know why I was planning on them being here." Dee told Rosemary.
"Dee dear, it's only natural that a bride-to-be would want to celebrate her happiness with her own family." Rosemary sympathized. "I was looking forward to meeting them. But, don't you worry, it'll be a fabulous party if I have anything to do with it!"
"I'm sure it will," Dee smiled. "I just wanted to tell you so you don't need to buy three of the steaks for the dinner."
"Now don't you worry anymore. Everything is going to be just fine. Leave it to me." Rosemary nodded.
Dee was actually relieved after talking with Rosemary. She just had such a sweet caring way about her. She may be a bundle of energy, but she was a kind, understanding friend. Rosemary offered to drive up to Brookfield the next morning bright and early for Dee's music class. "See you in the morning!" Dee called.
From the Dress shop Dee walked over to talk to Fiona about having her and Emily's hair done for the party. "Hello!" Dee greeted Fiona.
"Good to see you! Fiona addressed Dee, "What can I help you with?"
"You created such an attractive hairstyle for me when I went to the concert a little while ago, I thought I'd treat myself to have my hair done again, this time for our dinner engagement party." Dee informed her.
"Yes, that's what I thought! I already saved a time slot for you. Do you want anyone else to get a style? Allie? Mrs. Grant?" Fiona asked.
"Yes, I think they both would like a style!" Dee nodded.
"All right then, let's do Mrs. Grant first, then Allie, and you last. This way yours will be closest to the actual party time." Fiona suggested.
"Thank you Fiona. It's a date!" Dee said.
That night she spent the evening with Nathan at Faith's home talking about who they would invite to the wedding. "I'm not sure if any of my relatives would come as most live out of the area." Dee thought aloud. "I could still send them an invitation, but they would have to let me know soon, so I can reserve a room for them at Billees."
"I don't know if we should invite some of the Mounties," Nathan said. I don't want to leave anyone out, but for sure I want to invite Gabe from Brookfield. I'll have to check with Bill to get his opinion. Are you feeling any better honey?"
"Sweetheart, I always feel better when I'm with you." Dee snuggled close to him.
Nathan leaned over and caressed her face and tenderly kissed her. "You smell so good." he whispered in her ear.
"You are such a love!" Dee smiled. "But, I have to get ready for my drive up to Brookfield tomorrow with Rosemary, so as much as I'd like to sit here for a long time with you, I better call it a night."
"I wish you didn't have to go, but at least you're not staying overnight. You two just be alert on the way home and watch for deer. I don't want to have to rescue you, although the venison would be tasty to have." Nathan teased.
"Oh you," Dee threw the sofa pillow at Nathan as she got up.
"I guess that's a definite hint that I better be leaving." Nathan walked to the door, turned around and gave Dee one more kiss, "be careful, I love you Sweetheart!"
Rosemary and Dee had a pleasant sunny day to drive up to Brookfield. They arrived a bit early before her class, so they quickly stopped by Dorothy so Dee could tell her about their mom's telephone call.
"I feel so bad Dorothy, and I'm not sure why it's bothering me so much. I guess I'm more concerned about our parents not being there to enjoy one of the happiest times of my life. I'm sure they want to be there too and it bothers me that they will miss this." Dee sighed.
"Dee, you will see them next month for Christmas. I already invited them for Christmas here. We want you, Nathan, Allie, and Emily here with us too. It'll be a wonderful time, I promise!" Dorothy smiled.
"That sounds delightful!" Rosemary spoke up. "Just what you'll need."
"Oh, that should be fun!" Dee cheered up. "but, we have to get going. I don't want to be late. See you at the dinner party next Saturday." as she hugged Dorothy goodbye.
As planned, after Dee finished her music lesson with the whole class reviewing reading music and practicing their Do, Re, Mi, Rosemary took the children over to New Hope Orphanage. Like last time the little boy, Paul, was reluctant to join in with the other children around the piano by Lillian. Rosemary was intent on making friends with him again, so she went over by him and sat down.
"Paul, are you feeling all right?" Rosemary inquired. Paul just shrugged his shoulders again. "Well let me feel your forehead." she said as she held her hand on him. "Oh my!" she said startled.
Paul looked at her with a furrowed brow. "What?" he asked.
"I feel something, like movement!" Rosemary said surprised. "Don't move, wait. There are bumps inside."
Paul looked startled. "Bumps?"
"There, feel that?" Rosemary asked Paul.
"No."
"There it is again. The bumps are moving in a rhythm!" Rosemary declared. Paul started to giggle, and then when he looked at Rosemary he burst out laughing with her. Rosemary gave him a hug and Paul hugged her back. Lillian looked over and caught Rosemary's wink.
All the way back to Hope Valley, Dee heard all about Paul and how Rosemary was so concerned about him. I wonder, Dee thought...
