Let Me Call You Sweetheart Chapter 6, Page 57
Joseph stopped by the Cafe to see Minnie during his lunch hour from Coulter Lumber. Jesse was already there for lunch. So, after eating, he went upstairs to call on Clara and baby Michael too. Emily promised to save him a piece of her Bienenstich.
"How are the Flynn's doing today?" Joseph inquired happily. "Looks like mother and son are getting stronger since the last time I saw you two."
"Hello Pastor," Clara greeted Joseph with a warm smile. "We're doing just fine! This little tiger is eating like crazy!"
"Pooping like crazy too!" Jesse complained as he was cleaning up Micheal.
"That's what happens!" Joseph laughed. "What goes in, must come out! Are you getting any rest Clara?"
"As much as I can. Faith said I should get up and move around more, so I've been downstairs and when I try to help while Michael is napping, the ladies just have me sit and watch. I hope to get the approval of Faith in another month to go back to work at the cafe, but I'm not sure how that will work. I'll probably just stay in the back and do dishes so I can keep my eye on Michael in the buggy."
"Rest up while you can. They'll come a time when you wish you could just put your feet up. Listen, while I have both of you here together, I'd like to ask if you have any plans for Michael to be baptized soon?"
Jesse looked blankly at Clara and waited for her response. "I have to see if I can go to church yet or when I can. Depending on Faith's approval, yes, we do." Jesse simply nodded in agreement.
"Great, than you'll need to ask whoever you decide to be the Godparents and if you'll have a second name for Michael's christening. If it's all right with Fiona, I'd like to plan this for the end of this month." Joseph added.
"That's fine with us." Clara looked at Jesse, who simply nodded.
"We might have a second baby to baptize that day. I'm not sure yet, but if it is going to happen, I'll let you know who. Right now, I'm not at liberty to say. I'm just suggesting this could be a possibility and want to know if that's all right with the two of you." Joseph questioned.
"Well," Jesse looked at Clara, "I don't see why not. Kind of like killing two birds with one stone." Jesse laughed.
Clara and Joseph didn't join in the laughter. "Jesse!" Clara snapped and rolled her eyes.
"That's not exactly how I'd put it." Joseph smiled. "Okay, folks I'll let you be, I'll check in with you soon."
Joseph gave Minnie a kiss goodbye, and Emily a peck on her cheek as she handed him a slice of Bienenstich. He quickly stopped by to see Rick at Billee's and let him know that they could talk with Christy that night. Rick agreed.
Dottie was giving Rosemary an earful of her dinner date with Henry. "It was divine! He took me to eat at Romano's in Brookfield. It was beautiful inside with the red and green of Italian décor and even a small fountain inside. The ambiance was romantic with candles on the tables and gaslights on the walls. The pasta and wine was marvelous, and the music was mainly Italian and it prompted Henry to take me on the dance floor and whirl me around to a waltz!"
"Henry dances?" Rosemary was surprised.
"Oh, he sure does, and to be held in his strong arms, well, it made me remember what that feels like, and it felt great." Dottie was in a full blush now.
"This is fantastic!" Rosemary squealed. "Tell me more."
"All I'll say is he kissed me goodnight at my door and I heard him whistling as he walked back to his automobile!" Dottie was fanning herself now. "Now Rosemary don't you say a word, you hear me!" Dottie warned with a smile.
"What? Me? It'll be the headline for my next newspaper!" she teased.
"Any word about Dee's dress?" Dottie changed the subject.
"No, but we still have time. Let's keep our fingers crossed. I'm planning on Dee's bridal shower with Dorothy. We're going to have it at the Cafe. Bill wants to have the stag party for Nathan at Billees in two weeks, both on the same day.
"Will it be a family-friendly stag party?" Dottie sneered. "Men!"
Bill was indeed planning the bachelor party for Nathan. He told Lee what night to reserve for it and that Dorothy and George would be staying overnight.
"Unfortunately, Dee's dad, and brother Walter can't make it, but we are going to have some of the local Mounties coming and this will be fun!" Bill filled Lee in.
"What are you up to?" Lee was suspicious.
"Oh, you'll see. I think everyone will enjoy it!" Bill just gave him a squinted eye look.
"Darts? Cards? Chili? Beer?" Lee inquired with his forehead furrowed.
"Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes." Bill cocked his head.
"Ah, I know there's something cooking in that brain of yours! There's more. Spill it Bill!" Lee lifted one eyebrow.
"It won't be a surprise if I tell you. You'll just have to wait and see." Bill wasn't giving an inch.
