Let Me Call You Sweetheart Chapter 6, Page 60
The days were going faster and faster for Dee, and she was getting more excited as the time flew. She walked over to see Nathan at the NWMP office when she wasn't busy teaching, just to be with him. She loved just being with him, even if he was busy on the telephone or checking his written correspondence. He loved having her there and it just felt so natural for them to be together. Whenever he heard her walking on the boardwalk outside it brought an instant smile to his face. For them a quiet break together alone was a treasure.
"Nathan, all this planning for our wedding has me in quite a whirl when all I want is just to be your wife! I wish it was tomorrow." Dee said hurriedly.
"Dee," Nathan met her gaze, "I wish it was yesterday. I just want you to be Mrs. Grant and the sooner the better." Nathan got up and walked around his desk to pull Dee into a tight embrace. When he pulled back, he tenderly held her face in his hands and kissed her nose, her eyes, and then melted into her lips. The two just clung there holding one another and escaping, even if just for a brief moment, from the noises of the town and the chatter of voices outside.
It was hard for them to wait, but it was also coming quicker now. Dee had the songs and readings picked out. Rosemary had been her usual on-top-of-everything self, and had the details all worked out for light finger food, cake and champagne at the reception for all, with a dinner for the closest of friends and family. The flowers were ordered and Dee had asked two of her students, one to be the flower girl, Opal who was still the youngest in her class, and the ring bearer, Paul. After all the work Rosemary was doing for their wedding it was in appreciation to ask Paul to be included.
Nathan and Dee had asked that the music would be provided by records on the phonograph or guitar playing by Bill and Carson, Molly would sing, Angela would play the piano, whoever wanted to participate Nathan and Dee wanted them to join in the celebration! They both were pleased that Gabe would be attending with Lillian to the wedding. The Church would definitely be filled to it's walls!
"Sweetheart, let's go check and see if our rings have arrived yet!" Dee suggested.
The two of them walked hand in hand to the Mercantile to check on deliveries. They were so relieved to find their package there waiting for them. The silver wedding bands were shiny and new and sparkled when the light hit them. Ned and Florence both saw them smiling and kiss as they opened their package. "It's just about time!" Flo smiled.
"Not soon enough!" they both said together laughing.
"Any package for Dottie's Apparel yet?" Dee asked hopefully.
"No, sorry not today. You know packages are coming in slower with the snowy weather now. But, don't you worry, you still have time." Ned tried to console Dee.
Nathan wrapped his arm around her and reassured her again, "I told you I'd marry you even if you wore your old farm trousers. You'll look radiant no matter what you wear!"
When they left they went to the Cafe and stopped for lunch. Emily was there helping Minnie and was pleasantly surprised to see them both! "Oh you two lovebirds, you must have some chicken casserole that Minnie has cooked, it's delicious! Set yourself down and I'll bring you some."
Nathan pulled out a chair at a quiet table in the corner and admired Dee's long, loose blond waves flowing to her waist and her curvy figure as he helped her with her coat and sat down. Dee watched as the ladies checked out her handsome Mountie fiance in his red serge. They were a stunning couple to be sure.
When Emily brought them their lunch and poured them hot cups of coffee, she asked what was in the package. Dee broke out in a big grin, "Our rings came today!" and showed her.
"Oh, so polished and pretty. Lucky man, my son," her eyes twinkled. "Let me bring you some warm apple strudel with some ice cream, ya?"
Dee declined, "Emily I'll pass, you want me to fit in my gown don't you? If"it comes that is."
"Aww honey, it's on it's way, I have no doubt. A mother's prayer is powerful!" Emily patted Dee's arm. "Soon you'll be enjoying your bridal shower and Nathan his bachelor party and then Prince Charming will have his Princess!"
Nathan and Dee returned to the NWMP office and Dee gave Nathan a kiss and hug to let him get his work done. "Don't lose those rings!" she smiled as she left.
Carson and Faith were busy going over their schedule and Faith told Carson she was ready to release Christy from her care after checking on her. She told Carson their situation over the past few days and they were relieved that Christy's infection was cleared up and her anemia was much improved with her diet and rest. Little Timi Anne's jaundice was also subsiding with her napping in full sun and nursing pretty much around the clock. However, they were hoping that the two of them had a new home to go to. It was a good thing Pastor Joseph was going to help them with that, so they could plan their wedding too.
"Faith, how soon do you want to get married?" Carson said out of the clear blue sky.
"Gee, Carson, I don't know, what are you thinking? We have to go over these schedules of people we need to take care of and then make plans."
Carson swung Faith's chair around, "Look here Dr. Faith, I need to be taken care of too, and you're the only one I know who can do that perfectly!" he said before he leaned down and kissed her. Faith began to wiggle with excitement and stood up. "Dr. Carson, whatever are you doing, kissing me during work time?"
"Are you complaining?" he teased.
"No, I like it."
"Seriously, when do you want to get married. I don't want to wait. How about a spring wedding?" Carson suggested.
"After Easter then, maybe an April or May wedding?" Faith looked hopeful.
"We could just elope now?" Carson grinned. "Or does my girl want her special wedding she's dreamed of?"
"You diagnosed that right Doctor." Faith drew quiet and gave her man a long kiss.
