Day 1-Game night

When Ruby woke up that day, the first thing that she had seen was Jaune's face, her silver eyes slowly opening to meet Jaune's own tired eyes. At first, she wasn't sure what had happened but she couldn't help but smile when her eyes met his face.

Then, her silver eyes noticed the dark bags under his eyes and it all came right back to her. Her lip quivered from the memory of what had happened to Penny, the TV monitor changing to a chess piece before it showed a familiar woman.

For a moment, things seemed like they were about to go from horrible to even worse, but then the monitor changed again to the headmaster.

He explained that during the dance, someone had caught that a virus had been put into their network, but that with the help of some specialists from Atlas, they had managed to rewrite it. Her Uncle Qrow was even there! She was surprised when she first saw her uncle in the stands, but it quickly made sense later.

When Qrow left, her first instinct was to follow her uncle but she couldn't; she had to help save the civilians. At first, she thought that everything was going to be fine. Yang, Blake, Nora, and Pyrrha had left to help evacuate in the cafeteria, and whilst the White Fang attacking only made things more stressful, with the help of Atlas, they had things handled.

But then a Dragon attacked them.

She didn't even know that Grimm could be that big. It made the elephant Grimm that she had seen look more like Beowolves. They were like ants compared to them, and even Coco's minigun did nothing more than annoy the beast.

Part of her knew that they needed to leave. The dragon was spawning new Grimm faster than they could kill them all. It was only a matter of time before they would become overrun.

But Jaune wasn't stopping, and neither was Weiss, Ren, or Coco. Not even Cardin; so, neither would she.

They had civilians that they needed to evacuate after all.
What happened next was like a blur to her. She remembered fighting Grimm and then the dragon landed. Things happened quickly after that, too quickly.

It knocked over a wall that fell forward towards a child that had been separated from his parents. Luckily, Jaune managed to push the child away in time, but he wasn't so lucky.

He hit the ground and he wasn't getting up; red stained the stone floors.

The last thing that she had seen after that was a flash of silver before everything went black.

"Ruby!" His relieved voice pulled her from her thoughts, making her smile at him before being caught by surprise as he pulled her into a tight hug.

Then he explained to her what happened.

That Qrow had killed the woman behind it all, and that she had frozen the large Grimm somehow. That Yang had gotten a little scratched up during the battle, but she was okay. Sadly, their reunion was cut short by doctors having to do tests.

The next couple of times she got to see him were few and far between, but one thing was clear– he wasn't doing well. He just looked so tired, exhausted. He was slower than normal, and the bags under his eyes were getting worse.

With what had happened, the class was actually on a break. They were free to go home, but none of them felt comfortable leaving Beacon– none of them wanted to separate from their teams. At times, it was like before the festival. They even met up to eat at the cafeteria most days.

But none of them had taken things well. Weiss and Blake hung out together more than normal, much to her surprise. It was as if during her coma, the two of them had become closer. Yang and Sun had even gotten pretty attached.

That didn't surprise her as much as she thought it would. The two of them had a lot in common– almost too much in common.

Jaune was probably the one that had taken things the worst– or at least, that was what she had noticed. Things were hitting him hard. Something had happened to Pyrrha and she had had to go; she wouldn't say what, just that it was her destiny.

They were all worried about her. They hadn't been able to see her since the fall, and all they got from her were scroll messages and the odd call.

And so, Ruby decided one morning that she was going to take it into her own hands. She had talked to Nora and Ren, and they agreed to spend the night out of their dorm room. Why Nora seemed so excited about that, she didn't know.

Something told her that she shouldn't ask.

That night, she told Yang to not expect her back till later. Once she finished eating her dinner, blushing lightly when she heard Yang's joke about using protection before, she left, she got everything set up in team JNPR's dorm. Then she waited patiently for her knight to return.

When he stepped forward into the doorway, Ruby couldn't help but smile at him; she always found herself smiling whenever she saw him, but she couldn't exactly place why, nor could she place why her heart raced every time she saw him.

She didn't miss the way his eyes widened when he saw her sitting on top of his bed. He looked at her in confusion. "Oh, hey Ruby, do you need something?" He asked her.

In reply, Ruby just patted down on the mattress next to her before pulling out two controllers. "I was thinking that we could have a game night together. I even brought snacks?" She told him, pointing towards the pile of junk food that was on top of the bed.

There were crisps, chocolates, sweets, biscuits, cookies, and so much more, making Jaune raise a brow before he sighed.

"I'm sorry Ruby, I would love to but-" He started to say, trying to kindly turn her down, but before he could, Ruby grinned.

"If you're scared to lose, just say the words." She held up an arcade fighting game that quickly made him pause before he grinned back at her.

"You're on, Crater Face," Jaune smirked, picking up his controller in his hands as his shoulder brushed against hers.

"Just try to keep up, Vomit Boy." She replied, leaning forward as she switched on the console, booting up the game while she rested against him.

"Thank you for this, Ruby." He said while the game loaded, looking back at her. The silver-eyed woman simply smiled.
