Star crossed-Day 3
Growing up, Jaune had always been told stories about angels. He had never really believed in them, but that didn't mean that the tales never stuck with him. It was said that angels spent their time living in heaven. It was a bliss-filled realm filled with everything a person would want.
But for some, Heaven wasn't where they stayed permanently. "Fallen Angels" were angels that were cast down to earth for committing a sin; that, or they became too curious or too interested in the human world.
It was said that fallen angels lived among humans, but to him, that couldn't be true. If there were, there would be signs even if they stayed hidden. He was sure that the children of angels would have powers, at least.
So, angels weren't real. They weren't anything but stories.
Jaune was sure of it, and so when he found a silver-eyed woman passed out in front of his place, he was caught in the shock of his life. It wasn't just the unnatural silver shade of her eyes, but it was also the large, feathered wings at her back.
Halloween was months ago, so he doubted that she had dressed up for that. Maybe she had gone to a costume party and drank too much. He guessed at a reason, trying to rationalise why he had found an unconscious woman in front of his apartment.
Either way, he knew that just leaving her out here was a bad idea. She could fall ill, or worse, someone could hurt her.
Slowly crouching down, he let one of his hands cup her face softly. "Hey, are you okay? I need you to wake up." He whispered to her, trying to prod her awake to no avail. He frowned. Her face felt warm at least, and when he pressed his palm against her lips, he felt her warm breath meet his hand, telling him that she was still breathing fine.
Sighing as he realised that she wasn't going to wake up, Jaune gave one look around to make sure that he wasn't missing anything before he picked the woman up, his eyes widening in shock as he realised that it looked like her wings were fused to her back, the edges of her wings having turned black for some reason.
His arms hooked under her legs and back before straightening, gently cradling her body to his chest as he stood up properly. She was lighter than he was expecting– and with how short she was, he was expecting her to be light.
Maybe it was because he was expecting her wings to weigh more, but they didn't, much to his surprise. It was as if her wings were made from air.
When he felt her head fall on his shoulder, he couldn't help but smile, feeling his heart race as he cradled her body close to his.
When he got inside, he looked around his apartment. Part of him wondered if he should be getting her to a hospital, but something told him that was a bad idea. Luckily, his roommate was staying at his girlfriend's so he didn't have to explain things to him.
Walking to his room, he gently set the woman down on his bed. He thought at first that her wings would make lying down more difficult, but instead, they folded over her body, making him smile in relief.
The first thing that Ruby noticed when she woke up was a blonde kneeling in front of her, rubbing her forehead with a towel. She lurched up in shock, looking at the blonde with wide eyes, her wings wrapped around her defensively.
"Hey, don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you." The unfamiliar blonde told her, making her tilt her head in surprise. "I found you outside and I was worried that you were hurt. I'm Jaune, by the way." He introduced himself to her gently.
"What happened?" She asked, raising her hands to her head, her wings unfolding around her as she sat up before she frowned, remembering what had happened.
"I don't know." He admitted to her, unable to help but stare at her wings once he realised that they were real. "I just found you." He told her, leaning forward to poke her feathered wing, part of him thinking that it would disappear the moment he touched it. "They're real." He mumbled to himself, making the woman flush.
"Do you mind? They're sensitive." She asked him, making him flush. He was about to apologise, but she waved him off before he could. "Thank you for saving me. I just can't believe that happened." She thanked him, her eyes tearing up. It was clear that she was remembering something.
Frowning as he saw how upset the woman was, Jaune quickly leaned forward before he could stop himself, his arms wrapping around her waist to gently hug her to his chest in an attempt to comfort her. "Hey, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." He promised her, making her sniffle.
"They kicked me out, and I'm not even sure why." She whined, making him hum in confusion, his hand gently rubbing circles into her back.
"Hey, I don't know who 'they' are, but you seem nice, I don't think that you need them." He whispered to her, letting his hand move up to her head to brush through her hair.
"Thank you. I'm Ruby." She told him quietly, her voice muffled faintly by his chest.
"Well, it's great to meet you, Ruby." He told her before he paused awkwardly. "But what are you?" He couldn't help but ask, making her freeze.
"Don't you know?" She asked him with a tilted head, leaning back once he had let go of her so that she could meet his eyes better. "I'm an angel– well, a fallen angel would be more specific." She explained, making Jaune frown.
"This isn't, like, some kind of prank, is it?" He asked her, scratching the back of his head as he looked around the room trying to check for any hidden cameras, making her frown.
"What, no? Why would I prank you about this? How could I fake this?" She asked him, making her wings open and then close. A wince was clear on her face, leaving him looking at her in worry.
"Okay, I believe you, are you okay?" He asked her softly, frowning as he saw the black feathers slowly growing more noticeable.
"Don't worry Jaune, I should be fine." She told him before her stomach growled, making her blush.
"You know what? I could eat as well." Jaune told her with a grin, pulling out his phone to order food. "How does pizza sound?"
Ruby looked at him in confusion, head tilting. "Pizza? I don't think that I'm familiar with that. That doesn't exist in– well," She started to say before pointing upwards, "there."
"I'm sorry, what?" Jaune asked in shock as he leaned forward over to her. "Heaven must really suck if it doesn't have pizza." He told her with a smile, making her laugh sheepishly.
"It's probably not what you would be imagining." She admitted to him, looking at his phone as if she didn't know what it was, making Jaune bite down on his lower lip. Part of him wanted to ask, but at the same time, he didn't want to overwhelm her.
"Then, two pizza's it is, one pepperoni and one cheese. I'm sure that you'll love it." He smiled at her, making her nod in agreement as he ordered the food before putting his phone away. "We just need to wait for the food to get here now."
"Thank you, Jaune." She said, making him smile at her. "If it weren't for your kindness, I'm not sure where I would be right now." She told him gratefully, making him smile before he waved her off.
"It's fine, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I had just left you there." He told her before he held his hand out for her to take. "Wanna go into the living room and watch TV? To pass the time." He offered.
"TV? I don't think I'm familiar." She told him, making Jaune almost fall in surprise before he held his hand out for her to take.
"Come on, I'll show you." He told her with a wide grin, making her flush lightly. She's not sure why he didn't comment on it, instead of gripping her hand once she took his hand to help pull her up.
Ruby was a little unsteady with her feet, making it so that Jaune had to do his best to keep her from falling. His arm found its way wrapping around her waist, making the two of them flush as he led her over to his couch helping her to sit down.
"So, that's the TV." Jaune told her, pointing to the blank screen in front of them before he pressed the power button for the remote, switching it on.
"How does it work?" The curiosity was clear in Ruby's voice as she looked from the TV to Jaune, and then back to the TV.
"You know, I'm not that sure." He admitted to her sheepishly. "It's powered by electricity, so like energy, and then, like, waves are also used I'm pretty sure." He tried to explain, making Ruby even more confused. "I can google it later."
"Google?" She asked, making him pause before he sighed with a smile.
"I'll explain later. I'll probably make a list of things that I can teach you." He offered as he slid down next to her, trying to ignore the way that their shoulders brushed together.
"Thank you again, Jaune. We've only just met, but you make me happy when I'm around you." She admitted to him with a shy smile, making it his turn to blush.
"I like spending time with you too. I'm happy that I met you." He smiled at her before they fell into a comfortable silence, a movie being put on that the two of them paid very little attention to.
When they heard a knock at the door, Jaune reluctantly pulled himself to his feet, not wanting to separate from her before he smiled at her and got their pizza, bringing it in for them both, placing one pizza box on top of Ruby's lap.
"Pizza, as promised." He told her with a smile as he returned to his seat next to her.
"It smells nice." She smiled at him, her wings relaxing as they almost tried to wrap around her and Jaune, making her flush, not noticing the way that a couple of her feathers fell to the ground as she opened them up.
The rest of the day then went by far quicker than the two of them expected. Once they were done eating, they watched more TV until the two of them passed out with Ruby's head resting against Jaune's shoulder, and that was the way that Jaune's roommate Mercury found them both once he had gotten back.
"What's with all these fucking feathers lying around?"
