Let Me Call You Sweetheart Chapter 7, Page 71

The town social committee gathered at the Cafe Tuesday after breakfast. Discussing on a name, they came up with Chickadees after the proverb, "Birds of a feather flock together" by William Turner.

As Joyce pointed out, "It typically means, there is some type of common interest that draws you together. This can be work, sports, music, hobbies, church, faith, or any other common interest."

"That definitely is us!" Brenda affirmed.

Jane was leading the gathering today. "I think we should start preparing for the wedding reception. Don't forget Dee invited us personally at the bridal shower. So, let's learn some dance steps! This will take a few practices, but it will be worth it to glide around the floor!"

"Oh Jane, you make it sound like it's the Mountie Ball!" Liz laughed.

"Not quite, but there will be some Mountie's there!" her eyes twinkled.

"Did you all get your dresses yet?" Susanne asked.

"Yes, mine just came in," Ndala nodded.

"Oh, that reminds me, I better check with Dottie!" Luciana exclaimed.

"Let's start, I have two left feet!" Kathy sighed.

We have several dance steps to learn ladies, so please pay close attention!" Jane directed. "We have the jitterbug, which is a fun, fast dance. There is the fox trot,

a beautiful, romantic dance, that is composed of fairly simple walking steps and side steps. Then there is the tango which is a fancy sensual dance, and is between a man and a woman. So ladies, which one should we learn first?"

The ladies pushed all the tables to the corners while discussing the options, as Minnie and Emily were busy cleaning up the breakfast dishes and preparing the lunch entrees and put the closed sign up. They enjoyed the music record Jane started on the phonograph and laughed when the ladies were practicing their steps. Sure enough Kathy was right, a few of them had two left feet.

Mary suggested they concentrate on just one dance that morning, and in a few days the other, leaving out the tango.

"Why leave out the tango?" Catherine asked.

"It's too dramatic for me!" Virlinda agreed, "but you can learn it Catherine, maybe you can persuade a handsome Mountie to sweep you around the room."

Even Millie and Emily got involved in learning the fox trot. It turned out to be such fun that they asked to meet again.

"Right now, we need to put the tables and chairs back," Rita instructed.

"I'm exhausted!" Margaret sighed.

"All right ladies, we will meet on Thursday for the jitterbug. Wear something comfortable." Jane advised. Soon, the cafe was back in order and the Chickadees left.

Upstairs, Clare was talking to Rosemary who came by to visit and check on little Michael. "I'm so glad you could get away Rosemary. It's so nice to have company."

"Coming to see you and this sweet little boy is my pleasure" Rosemary was making baby sounds to him as she held Michael in her arms. "He's adorable!"

"Rosemary, how's things going with Paul?"

"Clare, being a mother is such a rewarding experience! I hope the official papers arrive soon. I can't wait to celebrate his adoption as Paul Coulter!" Rosemary jolted upright. Oh, we're planning on having his sister Susanna and her husband Joseph come, hopefully with Rachel!"

"It'll be great to see them again. I hope the weather cooperates and they can make it up here."

"Yes, it's a long trip by train and then we will pick them all up at the station." Rosemary explained.

"Listen, Rosemary, Jesse is talking to Lee sometime today, so I wanted to talk to you today too." Clare started.

"I hope everything is all right!" Rosemary was startled.

"Everything is fine. I'll be glad to get back to the cafe soon, but otherwise we're all good." Clare smiled.

"Whew, you had me worried."

"We're having Michael baptized this Sunday. So, Rosemary, would you do me the gift of being Michael's Godmother?" Clare asked hopefully.

"Oh yes! I am honored!" Rosemary proclaimed as she gave little Michael a kiss on his head. "Did you hear that Michael? I'm going to be your Godmother!"

"Thank you! That's wonderful, Jesse is asking Lee to be his Godfather." Clare grinned. She walked over to Rosemary who was still holding Michael, content in her arms and gave them both a hug.

"What will his name be?" asked Rosemary

"Michael Lee Joseph!" Clare said proudly. "We never gave him a middle name, so Lee is perfect as his Godfather, and Joseph after Pastor for his baptism name."
