chapter 3

Hot shot was in the hospital getting cancer treatment after getting diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma a few days ago. Hot shot was wondering when his hair would start to fall out. He was getting another chemo treatment today it was his second one for the week and the second one ever. Today Heatwave was there to spend time with him. The nurse was starting to set things up for the treatment.

"I have question," Hot shot said.

"What is it?" Tisha asked. Hot shot had different nurses every once and a while but today was Tisha caring for him again.

"When will my hair fall out and how quickly will it fall out?" Hot shot asked.

"Well Hot shot it's different for everybody, you might have some patches of hair left, or your hair with thin out slowly until it falls out, or you will loose all of your hair really fast by falling out in large clumps, you might even lose your eyebrows and eyelashes," she said.

"Does it hurt when the hair falls out?" Hot shot asked.

"For some kids it does, other kids it may burn, a few may feeling tingling, to few it may feel itchy, there kids who have no such problems as their hair falls out," Tisha said sliding the needle into the bump and hanging the chemo medicine bag on the IV.

"So it just depends on the person on how quickly it happens?" Hot shot asked.

"Yes," Tisha said. "When your hair grows back after treatment ends it can be just the way it was, or be a different texture or a different color," she said.

"That's neat," Hot shot said.

"Many kids like to wear wigs which are pretend hair which they place on their head with a wig cap. Some kids like to wear head scarves, bandannas, or some type of hat, others go bald and proud," Tisha said.

"Oh," Hot shot said. "Does it matter what kind of hats you wear if you want to where hats?" he asked.

"Well it depends on your style, some like scarves, others bandanna's, few wear ball caps, some wear bucket hats, and others wear beanies," Tisha said.

"I like Beanie hats," Hot shot said.

Heatwave and Hot shot were doing online shopping for beanie hats for childhood cancer patients. Hot shot chose the ones he liked and his father ordered them and the hats were going to come in a week or two because a later that day he got notification that the orders for the hats shipped.

Tisha and Dr. Rhino came to check on him to make his session was going alright. "Dad ordered some hats for me to wear when my hair falls out and I got to pick them out." Hot shot said. "And they just shipped and will be arriving at home soon, dad said if I am still in the hospital after my hair falls out he will bring a few of the hats over." he said.

"That's nice Hot shot," Dr. Rhino said.

Then a bit later one of the child life specialists came in with a guitar and they started to play music and sing songs. Hot shot was enjoying and singing along and playing music along was helping him out by letting him release some feelings through the music he was making.

Hot shot felt a bit funny after the chemo again and was given medicine to help him. He also had to take other medicines too.

Today Hot shot got a surprise. He saw his friends come to visit him.

"Hot shot we heard you were in hospital so we came to see you," Wedge said.

"Yes Ms. Leaf told you were sick," Whirl said.

"Yes we are worried about you," Hoist said.

"She told us you have cancer and were getting treatment to get better, we miss you at school," Medix said.

"I miss you guys too," Hot shot said.

"When are you coming back to school?" Scorch asked.

"I don't know to be honest, I don't know when I am going back home," Hot shot said. "The doctor said it could be a few weeks or longer," he said. "He is going to working something out so I can get my education so I don't fall behind in school." he said.

His friends brought him things the class made, cards and pictures. Hot shot had them hung in his room.

Hot shot was glad his friends had come to see him today. Then some family friends of his father's came to see him to. "There is the little fighter," Chase said.

"Hey there Hot shot," Boulder said.

"How are you feeling?" Blades asked.

"I am feeling okay," Hot shot said.

They brought some things for Hot shot. Boulder brought him a new book, Chase brought him coloring book with crayons, and Blades gave him a new plush alligator. Hot shot was glad people were coming to see him. It was making it easier to be in the hospital. Hot shot enjoyed their company more than the presents.

Hot shot was hoping some of the family would visit too, like his uncle, aunt and cousins, and his grandparents. He was hoping they were going to come to see him in the hospital.

Side swipe came to visit after school today he brought a card he made himself for Hot shot. "Thank you Side swipe," Hot shot said.

"Your welcome," Side swipe said.

Hot shot was looking forward to go home hopefully soon because he missed his home and own bed and stuff.

Someone also came by to see Hot shot it was someone from Make a wish one of the doctors had referred Hot shot and he was deemed eligible for a wish. "Hello Hot shot, I am from the Make a Wish foundation I want to know what you would like to wish for," the lady said.

"What can I wish for?" Hot shot asked.

"Some kids wish to go somewhere they always wanted to go, some kids wish to meet someone they always wanted to meet, some kids wish to do charity, some wish to have something they always wanted to have." the lady said.

Hot shot thought about it for few minutes about what he wanted and he knew there was something he wanted for a while and that was Newfoundland puppy. "I wish for a Newfoundland puppy I have wanted one for as long as I can remember," Hot shot told her.

"That's true he has been asking for one for sometime, and if that is what my son wants then I support it," Heatwave said.

"Okay then we will try to make you wish come true when the time comes." the lady said.

Hot shot was wondering how long he was going to stay in the hospital but he knew hopefully he was going to be home soon.

To be continued.
