Chapter Seven

A few minutes…

Outside of Interrogation…

Charlie looked at the young woman in interrogation, wondering why she was so insistent on coming to them, as he didn't count on her being somehow involved in the embezzlement scandal, though he learned long ago that just because something, or someone, doesn't appear in the equation, doesn't mean they factor in somehow.

``Makes me wish Don was here, he would have loved to rib me about how I don't always have the answers, ' Charlie thought to himself sadly before turning his attention to Colby, who came into the room, looking as confused as he was.

"Hey, Colby, any idea what Allison wants to say to us, given she had some papers with her?" Charlie asked, indicating the folder his friend was holding.

"From the looks of it, she gave us some more evidence of her grandfather's involvement in the embezzlement and what looks to be account numbers, possibly some offshore accounts, though I wonder how and why she even has these." Colby said

"From what I have heard, she wasn't even going into the family business and that she was going into teaching, or a similar field, so I am as surprised as you are." Charlie answered, as he never would have figured that Allison would know anything that was going on in the case.

"Well, she also wanted you in interrogation, as I guess she wanted a familiar face in there to make her comfortable, I mean, as long as you are okay with that?" Colby asked

"Sure, as this might help with my equation and determine more about what the company is up to." Charlie said, as he also wanted to find out more about Allison, as he remembered her as a student with great promise.

He just hoped that she was still that and not involved with any illegal activity, as this would make the case even more difficult to deal with.

Interrogation…

Allison was waiting patiently as Colby and Charlie came into the room, and she gave a sad smile when she saw Charlie.

"Hey, professor, long time no see huh?" She asked

"Yes, too long." Charlie agreed

"I heard about your brother, I am sorry, I know you two were close." Allison said sympathetically

"Thanks." Charlie said, as he knew that his students became familiar with Don as they grew closer and that Don would occasionally sneak into class to watch his brother work, which Charlie appreciated, something he was especially missing these last few months.

"So, Allison," Colby began, interrupting Charlie's thoughts, "What made you bring all this evidence? I have it on record that you have no involvement in your grandfather's company and, until several months ago, you had very little contact with your grandfather, or the company itself, and you are currently teaching at Yale, so how do you have access to these records?"

Allison took a deep breath before she answered, "Yes, I am a teacher but as to the question of why is my grandfather contacting me, he wasn't, as one of the workers called me in a panic, as he thought he discovered something terrible in the records, so he thought I was a good person to talk to."

"Something terrible, given that your grandfather is being investigated for embezzlement, and that two witnesses died, so what could have been so bad in the first place?" Colby asked, wondering what this was all about.

"That's the thing, the man who called me, he is one of the witnesses who was killed and I am worried that my grandfather might be sending me a message."
