Chapter Eight

This left Colby in shock, as Allison's answer meant that there was more going on than he initially thought. That, and someone was leaking information, which means that there may be more people involved than initially thought.

"Allison, did your grandfather ever talk about his business when you two got together?" Colby, hoping that he would get a yes.

"A little but that was mostly him trying to get me more involved in the "family business", as he had put it, but other than him, only one of my uncles and my older brother are involved in it, no one else wants anything else to do with the business, or him for that matter." Allison answered, looking down at her hands.

"What happened between all of you anyway?" Charlie asked, remembering the time when her grandfather came to CalSci.

"It has to do with him not being there for my Mom when she needed him and his support when my Dad died and all his other failures when she was growing up, as whenever he was getting remarried or getting a divorce, he would send her to a boarding school for three months before bringing her home again and then forcing her to sit in on meetings instead of letting her just being herself and she repeatedly told him that she had no interest in the business."

"Sorry to hear about that." Colby sympathized, as he had heard of the reputation that John Larkin has, a ruthless man who will not let anyone get in his way in anything, including friends and family and, as a result, also caused a lot of burned bridges and a ton of people willing to testify against him in the case.

He remained silent for a few moments before continuing on, "Besides that, anything specific that he would have mentioned about this whole business he wanted to be a part of? Partners, anything like that?"

"Only that he had mentioned one guy named Mike Perlson but I never met the guy and I have no idea what he does other than do some research for the company."

This made both Colby and Charlie pause, because there were no records of anyone by that name at the company but the name sounded familiar for some reason and Colby would have to check databases to see if it was someone he or anyone else might have met.

"Anything else?" Colby asked, a bit desperate but he knew it was worth a shot.

"Sorry, no, just what I was told about some of these things and those papers I have and hope that it might lead to my grandfather not meddling in my life whenever he gets the chance anymore." Allison answered

"Well, thanks for your help, we will bring an agent in to escort you back to your hotel and we will be in contact, if that's all right." Colby said, with Allison nodding in agreement and he left with Charlie to think through this no piece to the puzzle.

Charlie's phone rang, which he immediately answered, hoping it wasn't some kind of emergency, but was relieved when it was his dad calling.

"Hey, Dad, no I'm still at the FBI." Charlie said as he listened to what his father was telling him, "Sure, I think I will be able to make it to dinner tonight, I don't know, I'll ask him if he can." Charlie said before looking at Colby

"Sure, Whiz Kid, I'll be there." Colby said with a smile, relieved that there would be something to look forward to for the evening.

"He's in, Dad, see you later." Charlie said with a small smile, wondering why Dad needed him there but he'll find out later.

"You okay, Charlie?" Colby asked

"Hm? Oh just thinking about something, don't worry, let's get back to work." He said, as he and Colby went back to look through their notes
