Chapter Nine
Evening…
The Craftsman…
Charlie came into the house to see that Alan was almost done with setting the table before he said hello.
"Hey, Dad, it smells good." Charlie said with a relieved smile
"Hey, Charlie, thanks, it will be ready in a few minutes." Alan said, smiling back.
Robin and Amita were already there with baby Donnie in Amita's lap with Daniel and Serena helping put the food on the table.
Colby walked in with Megan and Larry in tow, as they looked tired but relieved to be there and loved the smell filling the room.
"Thanks for the invite, Alan." Megan said as she went to the table.
"Don't mention it, you were all working too hard so I figured you all could use a good cooked meal and not all the take-out you guys have been eating." Alan said, which caused everyone to chuckle, as they knew they had been doing that for a couple weeks while working on their case.
Everyone settled in their seats and started to dig in, all just grateful to have an evening to relax and to just talk. While it was tough for a couple months after the shootings, it eventually got easier as they knew Don and Walker would want them to keep doing it, as they were all a family after everything they had been through together and they needed to stay connected for all their sakes.
Robin told them all about the judgeship and wanted their opinions before she would make her final decision and they all encouraged her to go for it as they all believed that she would be perfect for it, with Daniel and Serena adding that they were both hoping that she would eventually do something like that.
"I know things have been hard, Robin." Alan said, "But the world could use someone like you as a judge, as you are tough but fair and you can also help right the wrongs that have happened in the city."
"Thanks, Alan, I was wanting to do this but I felt that I needed a push in order to make my decision, I will let them know tomorrow." Robin said, feeling a lot better than she had been for several months and now she can look forward to the future.
Meanwhile, Colby was just dreading tomorrow, as he was going to have to interview John Larkin, determined to see the man himself, as it might be one of the worst ones he will have to do.
'I will see this case through,' He thought with determination, 'Even if it's the last thing I do.'
