Chapter Twelve

Afternoon…

FBI War room…

Colby and Charlie were going over the current information that they had on the case while waiting for a warrant to come through so that Colby and his team would be able to get access to Larkin's computers and other material.

After another few minutes, Colby convinced Charlie that they should take a short break to get something decent to eat, not the so-called food in the vending machines and just talk for a little bit, which Charlie agreed to after a little reluctance.

After settling at a sandwich shop, Colby was glad that they decided to do this, as they haven't had the opportunity to do this much since the funerals and they only really hung out last during that celebration a while ago.

"So how have you been Charlie, I mean, how are you doing with the case we have been working on?" Colby asked his friend

Charlie thought for a few moments as he tried to come up with an answer, as even now, there are times as he didn't know what to feel.

"Honestly, I have been all over the place for the past few months," Charlie finally said, "Like I sometimes feel sad, like Don isn't here for some of the best family moments and sometimes I feel happy with my kids and sometimes, I somewhere in between, which I don't remember feeling when my Mom died but I'm not sure."

Colby nodded, as he knew what Charlie was talking about.

"Charlie, I know what you mean, as I went through something similar when my Dad died, for a few months and I sometimes still go through that whenever I think about him, so there is nothing to worry about feeling that way, Whiz Kid." He said with gentle affection for his genius friend

"Thanks, Colby, I know, as Bradford had said some similar things to me during one of my visits but I appreciate you saying the same thing." Charlie said

"Anytime, so may I ask about how the rest of the family is doing? They seem to be doing better from what I saw last night." Colby asked out of curiosity

"They are, as Dad and I have talked quite a bit over the past few months about Don and Gary, same with Amita and Robin and the kids, and it does seem to be getting a little easier, now." Charlie answered

"Have you heard from Aria in a while? I last talked to her a couple weeks ago, as she is thinking more about what to do in politics in the future." Colby said, wondering if Charlie heard the same thing

"Yeah, I talked to her a few days before you brought the case to me when I ran into her at a coffee shop and she said something similar and I told her that I would help her in any way I can if that comes up again." Charlie said in confirmation

"That's good, I'm just glad that we are all developing some type of normalcy." Colby mused, as he knew that they all had to move on with their lives but it was still difficult to do, especially with what had happened.

"Well, like someone once said, it takes one day at a time." Charlie said as he was thinking almost the same thing

Colby smiled as they continued eating and talked about some of their favorite memories about the two fallen men before going back to the FBI to continue on the case, both glad that they were able to think about the good times and going forward in the process.
