Chapter 3.
By 10 the movie was over. Cat was passed out on Robbies shoulder and the guy looked too afraid to move and risk her waking up.
Tori was looking at the sleeping girl while being completely wrapped in a blanket, hood and all. Only her face was showing when she asked, "How is she asleep? She isn't even phased." Her voice hoarse from her terror.
Jade stood to stretch, glancing at Cat and Robbie and ever so slightly smiling, "Robbie, Cat is out like a light, trust me. You can move. I've trained her that scary movies are like long car rides when you're a kid. Go to sleep and they'll be over before you know it. She falls asleep on me all the time during them and I've pushed her off enough that she doesn't wake up from the movement."
His look of relief was evident, "Thank God, I'm about to whazz myself." He slowly shrugged the girl off and propped her on a big pillow in his place before scurrying to the bathroom.
Andre, who was in the kitchen, held up the marshmallows, "Fire should be dead but still have enough heat to roast mellows, who's with me?"
Everyone but the sleeping Cat agreed, and they headed out to the patio.
It was dark outside, but the light pollution was enough to see the general outline of everything.
They all huddled around the dying fire, just enough coals to roast the perfect brown sugar fluff. The novelty however wore off after the 3rd or so one.
"It's hot. I'm going inside" Jade said, turning to go. Everyone reluctantly followed her, all of them thinking the same thing, but still enjoying the company of it.
"Are y'all ok with Moana?" Tori asked sheepishly.
"It's got a killer soundtrack, I'm down." Andre said, while Robbie nodded in agreement.
Beck shrugged, he wasn't picky, and Cat was still passed out.
"Ugh, you actually need a Disney movie, Vega?" Jade scoffs.
"You agreed, don't give me that shit." Tori glared at her, "I made it through your stupid horror movie and I only screamed twice! You can let me try to recover a little." She couldn't help but notice the ghost of a smile that disappeared as quickly as the had seen it.
"Whatever, wuss," but there was no venom in her words. Jade walked back to the kitchen and grabbed a bag of skittles before returning to her spot on the couch.
Tori put the new movie in, and then went to grab a glass of water.
Jade pipes up, "Bring me some, too."
Tori shakes her head, "Would it kill you to say please?"
"Yes."
Tori did as she asked anyways.
Walking back over she gets distracted at placing the glasses down on the table, and sits uncomfortably close to Jade by accident, "Oop's, sorry.'' she said hastily, inching away.
"Vega, I know you don't believe me, but I don't bite- hard anyways." Jade said with a smirk.
Tori looks at her warily, but the movie starts and she lets it go, trying to relax in her close proximity to embodied violence.
Jade opens her skittles, Beck pop's another soda can open, and Cat -sensing a change in the atmosphere- wakes up and smiles at the movie choice.
Jade pours a handful of the candy into her hand, picking some out, before leaning over slightly to Tori. "Open your hand." she whisper-yells.
"What? No," Tori looked at her funny as she responded.
"Yes." Jade demands again, only this time putting her hand full in front of the girl.
Tori caves, opening her palm up only to be pleasantly surprised with some green skittles. She grins, "Oh, Thanks. These are my favorites," she looks up at a confused Jade.
"I wasn't trying to give you them because I thought you'd want them. I just don't like them and needed a place to put them." She says, frowning, narrowing her eyes at her lap before looking back at Tori.
Tori pops the handful in her mouth, chewing them excitedly and wiggling her eyebrow up and down. "Well, whatever, I like them, so keep 'em coming," she smiles at her enemy, suddenly noticing her.
Jade was studying Tori, her features were soft and relaxed. Tori notices the shift again, but the other girl looks back at the screen.
Tori squints at her face through the glow of the TV. There it was again, the smile-not-smile. Gone before it was ever really there. She looks to the screen, realizing she's missed her favorite part with baby Moana, but she's surprisingly ok with it.
Shortly after, another handful is offered to her, but Jade doesn't look at her this time. However, the smile that's on both of their faces at the exchange is clearly visible to Beck. He raises a knowing eyebrow.
After about 20 more minutes watching their candy exchange he spoke up, "I thought I could finish this, but I think I'm going to hit the hay. It's later than I thought it was. Andre, Robbie, y'all coming with me?" He said pointedly, they went to argue, but he gave them a look that shushed the matter.
Tori frowned as she went to pause the movie, "Awe, but guys...Where's the fun in that?"
Beck shrugged, "Don't worry Tori, Jade made a deal, she'll finish the movie with you." He looked knowingly at his ex who was glaring daggers at him.
"I think I'm going to go on up too, I can't kee mah eyuhes open.'' Cat yawned in the middle of her words.
Tori frowned, "Lame. You're all lame."
Jade finally spoke up, "I did say we could watch it, so I'll stay up with you." Her face was unreadable.
The others filed away, and Tori couldn't help but pout a little.
"Go on, start it back." Jade said with indifference, propping her feet on the coffee table.
"We don't have to watch it, I know it's not your thing." Tori deflated a little.
"No, no, I made a deal, and I'm sticking to it." Jade said matter-of-factly, and then she looked straight ahead and licked her lips, "plus, for the record, I never said it's not my thing."
Tori hesitated, "Are you referencing what I said earlier, or mocking me?"
Jade shrugged, "Just hit play, Vega, and rewind it- you paused in the middle of my favorite part."
