Chapter 5
Cat was sprawled across the king sized bed, red hair splayed across her pillow, the small bedside lamp casting a dim yellow glow on her.
"It's a king sized bed. How the fuck does she take up so much room?" Jade whispers.
Tori stifles her laugh, "Just grab a leg and pull," she whispers back
Together they managed to reposition her closer to the edge of the bed.
"How does she sleep so heavily?" Tori wonders aloud.
"I take credit for her sleeping through the noises and the occasional shove, but that's not being yanked by the feet." Jade shrugs.
Tori crawls into the middle of the bead, still leaving plenty of room for Jade.
"I'm turning the fan on." Jade comments as she pulls the cord for the ceiling fan.
"Make yourself at home, why don't you." Tori smirks.
The fan starts spinning, "I hate comforters. They get so hot, so the fan is a must unless you want me stripping in my sleep." The pale girl walks to the side of the bed, her words finally registering. "Don't answer that."
Tori holds her hands up, "I wasn't gonna say a word."
A shiny piece of plastic sticking out from under the bed catches Jade's eye as she moves to get into her spot. She bend's down and plugs it in, the action going unnoticed by Tori as she's trying to pull covers from under Cat. Jade tucks her feet in, being sure to stay as close to the edge as she can be, and then reaches for the lamp.
Tori notices her proximity to the cliffside, "I don't bite, you know, not hard anyways."
The light flips off as soon as she's finished her sentence, but she can see Jade's dramatic eye roll even in the dark, from the small light coming from the nightlight. Now it's her turn to roll her eyes. She can just barely see the gleam from Jade's smile.
"Really? You're mocking me after I was nice enough to plug in the monster deterrent? How rude, Vega."
Tori bites her lip, "No need, the scariest thing I can think of is sleeping in my bed tonight. No monsters would dare try anything."
They settled into their spots, but Tori realized Jade was still too close to the edge, and she reached for her arm, pulling her closer into the middle.
She retracted her hand from its grip, but decided to leave it in close proximity to the other girl.
"Y'all are cute." Cat says softly. Both girls snap their heads towards her.
"Cat?!"
"What?!"
There was no response to the questioning, and Tori sat up on her elbow, looking over to the should-be-asleep teen whose mouth was still hanging open slightly, an almost inaudible snore coming from her.
Tori rolled over to look at an alarmed Jade, "I swear she's asleep."
Jade blinked and laid back down, "She does sleep talk sometimes, but not like that. She's not usually understandable."
Tori shrugged, "Oh well, she's probably talking about some animal in her dreams or something."
Jade yawns and nods in agreement, "Hopefully. Goodnight...Tori." She rolls on her side, facing away, leaving Tori to her thoughts.
"Yeah, goodnight, Jade." She closes her eyes and is almost immediately asleep.
Saturday morning came entirely too fast. Tori felt warmth along her back, too comfortable to open her eyes. Movement on her stomach made her peak open, coming face to face with one of Cat's feet. She jumped backwards in disgust, being stopped by the wall of warmth at her back.
"Oomph!" Jade groaned sleepily, "What the hell Vega?"
"Sorry, foot." Tori mumbled, shifting upwards on her elbow, she realized that Cat's other foot was pushing against her stomach. She didn't have any room to move at all, and was backed up completely against Jade's back.
"Huh?" Jade questioned, her eyes still closed.
Tori looked down to her smiling, "Cat pushed me against you with her feet. I woke up to her socked-foot in my face." She studied Jade's face, the faint smile coming across her features. All of a sudden Jade opened her eyes. She was caught looking.
The blue eyes blinked a few times, the pierced brow raising. "Take a picture, Tori. It'll last longer."
Tori sneered mockingly before defending herself. "Whatever, I was just looking at the drool trail on your face."
Jade bit her lip, refusing to smile. "You got coffee, Vega?"
"Of course, I'm not crazy enough to invite you over without some." Tori said with a smirk.
Cat's foot moved again. Tori glanced over to the girl, "Should we wake her up?"
Jade sat up. "Might as well." She leaned over, shoving Cat's legs, pressing Tori down in the process. "Valentine! Move your ass."
She sat back up, noticing the red tinge to Tori's cheeks. Jade was going to say something but then the redhead groaned, stretching dramatically before opening her eyes, frowning at her waker.
"C'mon Cat, I'll make some cinnamon rolls for us all." Tori said, sitting up.
"Ohhh, those sound nice." Cat said looking over to her. "Wait. Tori, are you blushing?"
"What? NO. It's just hot in here, that's all." The red was back in full force.
"Ok. Well, I gotta pee." Cat rolled off the bed.
Tori watched her go, when all of a sudden she felt a pair of lips on her cheek.
It was over in an instant, and Tori whipped her head over to look at the culprit.
"That's payback, for the one you gave me last night." Jade had a look of innocence on her face as she stood up.
Tori crawled off of the bed after her, trying for gracefulness, but failing when her foot got stuck on the comforter. She goes to fall, but Jade catches her.
They stand there for a moment, Jade still holding her up. Just when Tori thought something was about to happen, Cat walks back into the bedroom, "Tori, can we all stay anot-"
Just then Jade stepped back, and Tori fell to the floor.
"-ther night...Tori you ok?" Cat looks alarmed.
"Yep, juuuust peachy Cat," Tori groaned in pain." I simply tripped." She crawled to her feet, casting daggers at Jade whose face was devoid of expression.
"Ah, well the boys are up, apparently there was a raccoon that broke into their tent last night."
Jade and Tori looked to Cat, expecting her to say more, but the girl just smiled and turned on her heel, walking out the door.
As soon as the red hair was out of sight, Tori was immediately glaring at Jade again.
"Really?!" She hissed.
"I panicked!" Jade spat back. "I couldn't let her see that I-..." her words trailed off.
"That you cared? That you give a shit?" Tori finished for her, crossing her arms.
"Yes, ok? Jesus, I told you I'm not on your level with this shit yet. I didn't want her to see us and have to explain myself. I'm sooo sorry that I'm not ready to come out to the whole group." Jade was fuming at the end of her speech.
Tori immediately softened, her shoulders falling forward. "Oh God," she closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. "I'm sorry. I knew that. I shouldn't have expected anything different."
Jade deflated, "I shouldn't have dropped you, so I'm sorry, too." She said quietly, looking at the ground and messing with her hands.
"I shouldn't have lashed out." Tori hesitantly reached out, placing a hand on the other girl's arm. "I know you said nothing was going to change, it just caught me a little off guard I think. Come on, I'll make you a coffee." She gave Jade a small smile before turning away and walking out.
Jade watched her walk out. She clenched her jaw, raising her hands slightly, clenching them in anger. She knew it was going to be hard, but she didn't expect it to be this complicated too.
"UGH! Damn it, West." She closed her eyes, collecting herself momentarily before walking out to meet up with the others.
