Even though he'd been practicing days in advance, he still felt a bit of apprehension as he waited for his turn. Izuku Midoriya had been in front of live audiences before, if the UA Sports Festival was any indicator, but this was a different matter altogether.

In the wake of the students being moved into UA's on-campus dorms, a little morale booster was needed, and the idea of an inter-dorm talent show was proposed and immediately well-received. Those who were brave enough signed up and fine-tuned their acts for the anointed night. Midoriya had been persuaded-well, more like startled-into signing up, and it had taken him a bit of time to figure out just what it was he wanted to do. While surfing the web one evening to look for inspiration, he stumbled upon the YouTube channel for that most hallowed of American television comedy institutions: Saturday Night Live. Specifically, it was a clip from one of the very first episodes of the legendary program, featuring an equally-legendary comedian at the center. Something about it hit a chord with the chosen successor to All-Might, and from there, in secret, he began memorizing the routine in the days leading up to the show. Facial tics, timing-it all needed to be perfect for this.

Thus, here he was, waiting in the wings before his name was called. He had to admit, some of the preceding acts had been good. There was Mineta using his quirk in a juggling act while riding a unicycle, dodging pies baked and thrown by Sato. Momo Yaoyorozu had, fittingly, creatively used her own quirk with some well-honed slight of hand in a magic act. Tokoyami and his Dark Shadow got a good number of laughs with their take on the old 'Who's On First?' routine, while Shoji followed the avian-looking student's example by dressing up three of his tentacles (all sporting mouths) like ventriloquist dummies to do a one-man take on the classic 'Four Yorkshiremen' Monty Python sketch. Todoroki had quite a show-stopper with his combination 'ice-sculpting while fire-eating' act, while Jirou nearly brought the house down with her dead-on (and very loud) rendition of the guitar solo from Van Halen's "Eruption". Itsuka Kendo, from Class 1-B, brought more levity to the proceedings using large replicas of a couple of simple, yet wacky-looking puppets (built at her request by Mei Hatsume in the support course), manipulated like marionettes in her enlarged hands, as she resurrected the old "Java" Muppet skit (complete with that selfsame song, and a mechanism built into the shorter of the two puppets to nail the rather 'explosive' ending).

It was then that his name was finally called, and Midoriya walked onstage to face the audience that were his classmates and few teachers. At his request beforehand, a little table had been set up next to where he'd planned on standing. On it were a small boombox with a CD already loaded in it (one that he himself had bought early on in his planning stages) and a glass of water. Midoriya turned to face the audience, where they saw he was wearing a black turtleneck under a blue collared shirt, under a checkered sport coat, along with white slacks and tan desert boots. As soon as the audience quieted down, Midoriya put what he practiced into action...and began to come off like he was nervous, uncomfortable, like it was his first time on stage. A couple of twitches, some shifting and widening eye movements, and a few instances of his fingers clenching were enough to elicit some minor chuckles from a few people ten seconds into the act, even though he didn't do anything to earn them yet. Uraraka and Asui gave each other a brief, confused look, both wondering, like the rest of the audience, just what it was Midoriya was about to do.

Finally, Midoriya looked down at the little boombox, leaned over slightly, and pressed 'play'. After a few seconds to warm up, the boombox began playing the track Midoriya had set it on, and the song began to come out of the speakers.

Mr. Trouble never hangs around,

when he hears this Mighty sound...

Midoriya then dropped his discomforted disposition as he pretended to sing, with much gusto and aplomb (accompanied by the grandiose wave of his left hand):

"Here I come to save the day!"

The very act of doing this, and quickly shifting back into his prior nervous look, broke the tension he'd built up as a surge of laughter erupted from the audience.

That means that Mighty

Mouse is on the way!

Midoriya brought the moment back to square one as the next set of lyrics came on, recapturing the tension he'd built up earlier.

Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right,

Mighty Mouse will join the fight!

Midoriya moved to lip-synch the next lyric, seemingly by mistake, only to 'stop' himself, eliciting more laughter from the audience as he briefly hung his head.

On the sea or on the land,

He gets the situation well in-hand!

Midoriya kept up the fidgety, nervous act as the lyrics continued on, waiting for the right moment.

So though we are in

danger, we'll never despair;

'Cause we know that when

there's danger he is there...

He is there! On the land! On the sea! In the air!

We're not worrying at all,

We're just listening for his call...

Midoriya dropped the nervous act again just in time to triumphantly 'belt out':

"Here I come to save the day!"

And was soon back again in his 'confused, discomforted state', but not before the audience burst into laughter again.

That means that Mighty

Mouse is on the way...

As the instrumental portion of the song played, Midoriya turned and nonchalantly picked up the glass of water, proceeding to take a drink to wet his lips, until the glass was now half-full. The very act of doing all this brought about some more chuckling among the audience, and he put the glass back down and resumed his nervous look just as the last set of lyrics began to play.

We're not worrying at all,

We're just listening for his call...

Once again, Midoriya broke the tension as he dropped his 'nervous nellie' look as he 'heartily sang':

"Here I come to save the day!"

Before swiftly resuming his 'discomforted' appearance, the audience bursting with laughter and applause just as the song ended.

That means that Mighty

Mouse is on the way!

The applause continued as it was then joined by more than a few cheers, Uraraka being the loudest. A smiling Midoriya took all of this in as he then proceeded to take his bows.

END.
