Extended Prologue

"What do you mean that UA rejected my application?" A boy asked over the telephone, his head full of snow-white hair and a dreadful expression on his face.

He was tall for a sixteen years old, and had muscles that made him look more older than he was. He wore a white shirt and khaki pants and a phone was over his ear.

"No… no, that shouldn't be right. But even Shinji Nishiya's application got accepted." He said, massaging his temples.

"And what about Shiketsu High?" He asked softly a minute later.

But his expression changed from dreadfulness to anger and he slammed onto the nearby table. "But I got recommended there!" He shouted. "And now suddenly they won't even acknowledge my application?! I am coming to school right now." He said.

"I don't care what you think of me, Kudo-sensei."

And he slammed the telephone off. He knew what this meant. His future would be ruined if he didn't act. Getting out of his chair, he pulled over his black hoodie and he left out of the front gate in a hurry.

"Nii-san? Are you going somewhere?" Fuyumi, a girl around the age of fifteen, with white hair similar to his brother came running out of the kitchen but Toya was already gone. "It's pretty late…" But he was nowhere to be seen.

Toya Todoroki the eldest son of the Todoroki family was in a bad mood. As he crossed the road and stood for the train to come as he started thinking about what had happened, how his dream was shattered.

It has been what? Almost two years since he stopped his hero training with his father. And he was admitted to a nearby school. Before that, he was always home school, which didn't help him in his social life.

But he didn't have time to think about that. Tomorrow was supposed to be the UA entrance exam. He was looking for it, all of his life. Yet he couldn't take it, why, because his application got rejected. That was pure bullshit!

He squeezed his knuckles white just thinking about it. He wasn't the best in academics, but he knew he had enough points to apply to UA. Even Shinji did. And he was always getting himself in trouble for his actions.

The train came not long after. The whole journey, he thought about it. But what didn't make sense was his Shiketsu High application.

After their demo-test in the middle school this year, they had handed out a recommendation for him. Meaning almost a back door entrance for him. But now they rejected their application.

The train stopped and he walked. And before long he was at the front of his school. The sky was already getting dark blue by then, the sun had already set.

He started walking towards to teacher's room, when a voice called out.

"Don't even bother going there."

Toya frowned looking towards the source of the voice. A muscular blonde man stood there, his PE teacher. A man whose origin was from England. Toya wasn't even sure how he ended up here.

"Oh, hello Ken-sensi." Toya greeted bowing his head.

He nodded, "Kid, run home." He said releasing a sigh. "You are here to talk about the application right?"

Toya nodded.

"This usually happens, students get rejected and I get on Guard duty." He shook his head. "But even I am shocked that your application got rejected. You applied for UA right?"

Toya nodded again.

The man started walking towards him, placing his hand over his shoulder. "Try a general course or something. If your application was rejected by UA, the other Hero courses wouldn't want you in. You should have applied in other hero courses from the beginning."

Toya's face paled at that. "B-But, even Shinji got his application accepted."

"Shinji Nishiya?" he raised an eyebrow. "His father's loaded I guess. That kid is a trouble if I saw one."

Toya took a step back. "But…"

"No, but's listen…" He sighed. "Even I wanted to attend a hero program when I was your age. But politics, connections, and money… mostly money is needed in this type of work. I thought at least UA would be different… but you learn something new every day."

Toya opened his mouth, and suddenly his throat felt dry. What should he do…

"Toya Furizu, I know I am not best at explaining things… but maybe you should take up on the Shiketsu High offer." He said. "At least they will cherish your talents."

Toya Furizu, that name. The last name of his mother, but nobody except the school principal knew that. That principal knew who he really was. Son of the infamous hero Endeavour.

Toya knew there were corruption in the system and all. But even with that, just saying his last name should have been enough to get his application in UA. But it didn't, something was wrong.

"Sensei, but… even the Shiketsu High application was rejected." He said.

Now even Ken-sensei made a face, so he didn't know. "But why? Your performance in the demo-test was exceptional…"

"That's why I came to talk to Kudo-sensei, he's the principal. He should know what went wrong right?"

The blond teacher frowned. "But the principal left a while ago." He said. "It was weird why he left that early…" he muttered the last part mostly to himself.

"But the UA entrance exam is tomorrow!"

The teacher sighed, "Look Kid, I don't think even the principal can do anything about the UA situation. But the Shiketsu High exam is in like in a week or so. Maybe you can sort that out." He said. "I am pretty sure they have some system problem. You got recommended, they don't just reject applications like that."

Toya didn't say anything, he nodded before turning to leave. This day was getting worse by the minute. But maybe his PE teacher was right, maybe it was a system problem.

But still, he was skeptical about the UA application thing. You get notified early if your application is rejected or not. Not the day prior to the exam. Something was wrong.

Was following your dream that hard. Maybe he wasn't meant to be a hero. A picture of a man that he particularly didn't like came to his mind. The scoffing expression on the man's face was the last thing that he wanted to remember.

"…toya….Toya" a voice called him from behind. He looked back, he was already in the shopping area, the station wasn't that far, time was passing incredibly fast today.

A girl ran to her before stopping huffing for air and Toya recognized her. She was one of them, this wasn't the time to reject a proposal. "I am sorry, Miku but…"

"I know why your UA application got rejected."

Toya's eyes hardened. And only then did he remember, that Miku's last name was the same as the principal's, was she his daughter or something. Maybe. Before now he didn't have to look into it, which he was regretting right now.

And then she explained.

.

The train was jammed with people that were returning from their everyday work. People rushing in and out from the door, smiling faces, small talks. It was a Saturday night. Maybe that was the reason people were in a cheery mood.

Except for Toya, he was more than in a bad mood as he sat on one of the train seats, heading for home.

The dark hoodie covering his snow-white hair and his face did get a lot of attention from people. But they quickly ignored him, when they looked into his almost dead turquoise eyes.

Those eyes gave off a chilling aura. As if something bad would happen if you look at them too long.

Toya's hands gave off smoke, which he quickly waved away. But still some standing passengers saw it, and a few of them took a step back.

People generally don't want to be near a fire quirk user. It was flashy in every sense in the book. But people still feared fire users like a plague, and it didn't help that the most popular fire user in japan —which also happened to be his so-called father— had an anger problem.

Which the media tended to point out now and then, which was funny as how much money he fead them.

Speaking of that man, Toya wanted to rip his face off right now. That man was a monster and that was quite a bit of hate coming from a sixteen-year-old. But he had his reasons.

And after what he did. He wanted to kill that man and be done with it. Toya had far quit trying to please that man.

'Why did it have to be me?' he asked himself, releasing a sigh. His hands hurt bad, he accidentally activated his quirk, didn't he?

"So much for my dream of being a hero…" he mumbled to himself. Brushing at the scars that were on his hands. All of them were burnt marks.

The bone-breaking training and the skin-burning pain. All of it he endured just because of his dream. Dream of being the number one hero.

But it wasn't Toay's dream though. He just wanted to save people. Maybe put a smile on their faces. It sounded cheesy as All-Might. But he truly did. Some people just wanted it simple.

But now… he didn't know where to go or what to do. Even ending his life seemed more pleasing to him.

Toya leaned back on his seat, covering his eyes with his forearm.

He would have never guessed that his so called father would stop so low. Canceling your own son's admission. But even going as far to cancel out other Hero Courses.

Toya could still apply to other small-time Hero Courses, but he was pretty sure, his father had ways to get behind that as well. All because of that… brat.

Toya shook his head. His youngest brother, Shoto Todoroki got the worst treatment out of them all. But still… if he wasn't there, maybe, just maybe his life would be a lot better.

But who was he kidding? 'If someone is to blame that it was that man, not Shoto.'

A while ago after, Miku —his classmate, who also happened to be the principal's daughter— told him how his application was canceled at the last minute by someone that the principal couldn't ignore.

Now, who could have the authority to have a hand over the principal, either the Hero Association or his father, the number two hero. Who was also the one who admitted him to this school.

The former didn't have any reason, while the latter had all the reason. So that was why he was giving him the look this morning. 'And I thought I had found a way to piss him off by mixing cereal with warm milk.' He smiled at his misery.

There went his dream of becoming a hero. Was there any reason to live? Yeah, there were plenty. Maybe being a chief or an office worker would fit him better. He smiled to himself, a hollow smile.

Why did it pain so bad? He shook his head.

He will figure something out. He always did. Toya looked up over to the train door, and he left his train-stop an hour ago. Just great, now he would be running late for home.

Which was a plus, he didn't want to see, that man's face in the dinner table. God knows what he would do if did. "This day couldn't get any worse…"

And the train shook before stopping suddenly, the sudden break knocked most of the standing passengers. And it caused an uproar. But Toya didn't have time for that as he looked out of the window.

"What the…" that was what all he could say, as he looked at the roaring chaos outside. Building pleaded with fire, smashed vehicles, and screaming people running for their life.

The was an explosion from the front of the train and the whole passenger compartment shook. The doors were shut tight, but luckily there was a strength-type quirk user, who out of panic or cunningness, opened them.

Toya got to his feet, brushing past the tsunami of passengers that went towards the door, each pushing the other one aside. Toya wanted to get out himself when a cry caught his attention.

The whole train shook again and the front of the compartment seemed to have been dented, it seemed like a broken piece of the building was on it. And the power was cut off, and in a light-less train, the struggle seemed to get worse.

Wide-eyed, he stopped the struggle to get to the door, he backed off, and headed towards the broken area. Maybe someone was in trouble.

There was almost no light on the train. Flicking his fingers, a ball of blue flames appeared on his palm, lighting the way. "Move aside." Hearing his voice cleared out the area.

It was around here somewhere, and… he saw it. A small girl maybe around ten, was stuck beneath her seat and because of the seats meshed together couldn't get out.

Toya knelled down, pushing his hand inside for the girl to grab. "Hold on." He said.

"I can't…" the girl seemed to be crying and was taking breaths in between her talk. "My mother is in here."

Toya frowned, snapping his fingers to light the spot up. And sure there was a lady lying unconscious face first, and she seemed to be bleeding out from her head.

Looking closely, was the small girl, holding away from the dented section, saving both of them from being crushed down. Thank God! She must have a strength type quirk. Toya stood up, pushing away broken parts of concrete with much difficulty. Yeah, she definitely had a strength quirk.

He quickly got her mother out. The train was almost empty by now. So they didn't have to struggle to get out.

After getting the girl and her mother out, he took them towards a nearby Firefighter unite. Many people injured were already there. Toya even saw some unlucky people that didn't make it. He sighed, he wished he could have saved them.

But where were the Heroes? That was a stupid question. With so much property damage, they were most likely in a rescue situation. The whole city was under attack. When he was inside the train, he got a better view, almost five or six buildings were caught in flames.

Toya took out his phone, but the network was bad as his luck. He tapped his feet several times when another large boom took place not far from them.

What was this a villain attack? But it seemed to be too organized, then a terrorist attack? But then why this city? All-Might's office was just in the other city. And with his speed, Toya wouldn't be surprised if he had already saved a dozen of people.

Toya shouldn't have moved but his feet carried him towards where the recent explosion occurred. As he passed by the running passerby, mostly panicking to get out.

Toya peaked from the corner and… that red and yellow suit, that's defiantly All-Might.

But he wasn't saving people, no. He was fighting someone, as he saw his deflecting projectiles thrown at him. And he seemed to be over tensed. That was a look that didn't match his broad smiling figure.

Toya could barely get a look at the opponent, before All-Might charged towards him. And another explosion occurred. The wind was strong enough to almost lift him, it was good thing to hold on to a nearby pole. But when he looked back, both All-Might and the Villain were gone.

It was at that time, he saw a figure jumping from one building to another. He knew her, that was the new Rabbit hero. And she seemed to jump onto the apartment building and was taking out civilians one by one.

Now it made sense, That was why All-Might was guarding the place. There were still people inside. Respect grew more for his all-time favorite hero.

Toya walked there, he knew better to go in. But he couldn't just stand there and judging by the damage it sustained, it wouldn't fall anytime soon. And seeing him brought the attention of the Rabbit Hero, Mirko to him.

"What are you doing here, kid?" she asked, a child was over his shoulder. She jumped right in front of Toya, before she dropped the child. "This isn't a picnic spot. Go and evacuate."

"I can help. Uh, I am in my first year UA, internship…" He lied, but then again this was around the time when the internship usually happened. "…and I kinda live in this area. So can I help?"

He asked determination in his eyes, lives needed to be saved. Mirko looked at him before nodding. "Go to the lower floors, there should be a few civilians in there. I still have to clear the top floors."

Toya nodded before running inside. A sense of excitement quickly washed away the anxiety he was feeling a minute ago. Now fully determined he went into the building.

Lighting up a small blue fire, he got inside the dark building. The attack seemed to have cut the power out. Luckily he had his trusty blue flames.

His Quirk: Cremation, dazzling blue flames that were hotter and brighter than normal flames.

It wasn't hard to find people as most of them were stuck on the staircase. And were too afraid to get out. He just being there was enough to ease the tension, and to clear most of them civilians.

But just to be safe he went inside, checking a few things, most of the pillars of the building were still intact, meaning he wouldn't have to worry about the building toppling over his head.

And it looked like the upper floors were on fire, meaning someone might have used their quirk to attack it. So the building shouldn't fall.

He smiled to himself. Maybe training alone was the right decision. His father would have only taught him how to punch and kick. This kind of complex thing was out of his head.

Toya was pretty sure, that man had assistance behind his comms that helped him navigating in this type of situation.

So Toya knowing a little bit about damage control was a thing to be proud about. "Don't let it get to your head." He mumbled. He was about to go on the upper floor when something caught his attention.

It was a muffled cry, and it was coming from the upper floors, he got up, "Is someone in there." He asked, and the crying sounds confirmed it. It was the apartment on the right.

He tried to open the door, but it was locked. "Stay away from the door, okay?"

Putting his palm over the doorknob he melted it away, and the door was opened. A snap from his fingers and his blue fire revealed the situation. He went inside, looking…

The problem was in one of the bedrooms, the window had shattered and rubble from the building came inside, messing the place up.

This was bad. Two kids, both around age three were crying over a man, who was bleeding from his shoulder. With that rod coming out of the man's shoulder Toya knew that the man was lucky to still have his arm.

Toya rushed to the man's side. Lightly slapping his cheeks. Luckily he was still conscious, but his face looked pale. Maybe it was from the blood loss.

"Please take my kids." He said, struggling to breathe. Did that puncture his lungs, no, it was definitely the blood loss. The rod was sticking a few inches above where his lungs should be. Toya clicked his tongue, this is bad, but he didn't show it on his face, that was the last thing he would do.

"Papa." Both kids said in unison, hugging the man's waist as he leaned on the wall.

Toya felt a bit nauseated seeing all the blood. But his adrenalin helped him gulp it down. Now wasn't the time to wimp out. "Sir, don't move." He said. "This might hurt a little, but can you stay awake. Please"

Toya was so happy that he went on that boring medic program a year ago.

The man weakly nodded. This could get him in a lot of trouble, maybe in jail. But it was better than his home. And that way, maybe he could get some dirt on the second hero's name.

Toya shook his head, he didn't have the time to think about it. He crouched near the man, looking over his shoulder. It was difficult to get his hands behind him, but he did.

Barely touching the rod. With the metal rod in between his fingers, he released a concentrated fire around his fingers, using them as scissors to cut the metal off.

He held the rod from the other side, not to pressurize the wound, he cut the other end the same way. Pulling the rod out would make things worse. He sighed. Looking at the man once again.

"Sir, I need you to be extra tough in front of your kids." He said, and before the man could ask.

Toya pressurized the wound from both sides, using his fire to cauterize the wound. It would hold the bleeding. But a rod sticking out of the shoulder wasn't a pretty sight.

The man didn't seem to feel any pain though.

Shit, this was bad, did he lose too much blood. "Hey, sir. Stay with me." He said lightly slapping his face, the man was in a rough shape. He was barely responding.

Toya turned towards the kids, he took his phone out, turning the flashlight on. "Hold it in front I will help him from behind." The kids looked at each other before nodding.

He held the man up, supporting him by the shoulder, his opposite shoulder of course. It took a while to drag him out. But he eventually did.

When they were outside, already a fire truck was there, helping with the rescue.

"Hey, someone is inside." A boy maybe not older than Toya called out. He had blond hair and red wings. "Are you guys, okay?"

"No, I think he's lost a lot of blood. I cauterized the wound, but I think he needs a blood transfusion right now." Toya quickly said.

The boy looked at Toya for a while before nodding. "Medic, we have an emergency here." He said in his comms as he tried to support the patient, but it was hard to find an angle, because of a rod sticking out.

"I can handle this."

He reluctantly nodded.

Toya got them towards the van, before laying him down. He wiped away the sweat before he smiled at the kids. "Stay with him, okay." He said, trying to give his best gentle smile as possible. And luckily it worked, one point for good looks I guess.

Luckily there was a healing quirk user in the area. And she got to him as soon as possible.

Toya quickly got back, and he saw the boy with red wings. He was standing at the entrance of the building and seemed to be concentrating.

Toya was wide-eyed, when he three people falling… no levitating out of the building.

Red feathers were attached to their clothes. Maybe it was the bird wings quirk. That was some versatile quirk for rescue missions. But the boy seemed to be to young to be a hero, though.

Mikro landed between them, gaining both of their attention. "Hawks, there is another building that needs support." She said, "And bring your friend along?"

The last statement confused both of the teenagers. She looked at both before turning to Hawks, "He is your classmate right. He also seems to be interning in this city."

Mikro landed between them, gaining both of their attention. "Hawks, there is another building that needs support." She said, "And bring your friend along? He seems to know what he's doing."

The last statement confused both of the teenagers. She looked at both before turning to Hawks, "He is your UA classmate, right? He also seems to be interning in this city."

Hawks looked at Toya who had a cringe expression plastered on his face, he smiled. "Yeah, but we aren't that close." He said, the last part ringing bells in Toya's mind.

Mikro was about to say something more when she frowned and her fingers got near her ears. She heard something from her comms and took off, not before saying. "Go to sector A, they need a few helping hands with carrying stuff."

"Now…" Hawks looked at Toya with a scary smile. "You mind explaining?"

"Ah… Will it help if I say I am from the future?" Toya said, and an amusing expression dawned Hawks's face. "Look man, I just wanted to help. And things got out of hand and I accidentally remembered that I failed the UA exam a year ago, so I just got with I had in mind."

Hawks frowned, his smile never leaving his face. Which was the scary part. Toya had to mix lies in, he couldn't just go around saying that he was the son of the 2nd class flaming fart.

"If it makes you feel better, I had medical field training in my general studies, so I know my stuff." Half-Lies worked best in this type of situation. But the evenness in his voice said otherwise. Even Hawks was half convinced. Well, he did have experience in lying to a pro hero. So that was a plus.

"You are staying with me, and don't do anything stupid. You are in a lot of trouble already. But I could need some helping hand." He said, walking towards him. "And I will confirm everything. Personally."

Toya internally cringed at the last part, but he didn't let it show in his face. Who the fucks care about tomorrow, live your life like there's no tomorrow. Or that was how it went.

Hawks on the other hand, was thinking the opposite. Maybe the boy was saying the truth. There were always times, when people broke the law to save lives. And he admired that. It was one of the ways the Hero agency found him.

"For now stay with me. I don't want to get a valentine killed." Hawks said. Before walking towards a short alleyway.

Toya looked at his back, should he follow, well there was always the option to run. Toya shrugged, at least he could help some people before getting thrown up in jail.

Huh, how would jail food taste like? Well, it would be sweet enough to see Endeavour's humiliation. Hmm, tempting.

Toya looked at Hawks, particularly his wings. Whatever his quirk was, it was a type of father control. And also some type of sixth sense maybe, because you don't show your back to a random stranger.

He needed to be careful. Because he surely wasn't spending his night in jail. That would suck.

His chain of thought was broken, when Hawks called out. "You are going to drill a hole in my head with that look." He said not turning back.

"Oh, sorry…" his apology was cut off when they heard an explosion went off not far away, both of them looked towards it, "That's not where section A is right?"

Hawks took to the sky looking at the situation, before looking back. "Go back. I don't think you should get in any more trouble than you are already are."

And he seemed serious. Hawks didn't wait for a reply as he zoomed off.

Toya stood in place. What should he do? He could avoid jail, if he just disappeared right now. But he could hear people's cry coming out of section A.

Something bad was going on there. "I hope they give blankets in Jail." Toya ran forward, he would worry about the consequences later. He was training his whole life for this. A license or not, wouldn't stop him for saving people.

Running through the broken roads, he saw some firefighters evacuating the civilians. Whatever that was it was pretty bad. Jumping over the barricades, he launched himself to a wall, nimbly climbing it and it was enough to get him a view of what was going on.

A giant around twenty-five feet stood on the open road, while police car and firefighter trucks were blocking his way, beyond that was the A section. And the bad thing was there weren't any heavy hitters hero in there. The only noteworthy ones were Hawks and another hero who had a head for a fire hydrant. Police were also there shooting at the villain.

The giant however was reckless, throwing chunks of broken buildings, roads and trees at the secured section A, toppling police cars with his throws, it almost seemed he was playing with them. Was it to bring out heroes?

Hawks still up in the air, threw his feathers onto the giant.

But looking closely, it weren't for attacking. The feathers went on, pushing away the chunks of buildings so that the civilians were unhurt. Blackdrift on the other hand could only spray water, and judging by the steam of it, it was probably boiling hot.

Still, Toya could see several unlucky ones that got under the rubble, possibly dead. He pressed his knuckles white seeing that, what did they deserve it.

Even with the bombardment of bullets, the giant didn't even flinch it only got annoyed. Bullets, bolling water, all didn't seem to matter to him. And the giant took a step back, getting low…

Oh, no… Toya had researched on this type of villain. And that wouldn't end well, if he charged into the section A. People were still evacuating the area.

By the time Toya had finished processing the information he was already at the sight. When did he get that fast… he shook his head, he didn't have the time to think about it.

The Giant charged, but Toya was already ready. Blue flames wrapped around his right arm, instantly burning away his hoodie's sleeve, he stopped by the footpath of the road, letting his fire slide in a line. It hit the road in a line, arching along the way, before a blue firewall rose from the street thirty feet high, separating the villain from the heroes.

The villain stopped mid-charge, even jumped back when the fire licked his rock-hard skin. Toya took the chance he ran along his firewall, and using it as cover he tossed a few fireballs at the beast.

Toya on the other hand was in a world of pain, but the sudden rush of adrenalin numbed it down. Smoke was still coming out of his right arm's skin, and it felt like thousands of ants were pricking at it at the same time.

He gritted his teeth, "Just bear it…" he spat out, using his other arm to wave at Hawks. He was already behind a police van, using it as a cover, he didn't know how long his fire…wall would work. He should probably start naming his attacks.

Most of the policemen ran out of bullets and some even ran away. "Cowards!", but then again, they weren't heroes.

The bird hero looked at him, before zooming towards him. "How long can you pull out our firewall." His feathers already helping his evacuation, he gave multi-tasking a whole another meaning.

"Not much, how much time before a pro shows up?" Toya asked, peaking from an angle. The giant seemed to be a little worried as it was constantly eyed the firewall, even as it was going down. And judging by the burnt marks on his skin, a few of his fireballs did hit him. While others just melted the road and the sidewalks. The last observation gave him some ideas… but he wasn't sure if it would work.

"At least three minutes." Hawks said as he landed on the floor, almost all of his wings were gone, and by the looks of it, they were helping with the civilian evacuation. "That's gigantomatchina, last time Endeavour did a number on him. Can you try to fire shots, maybe keep him busy, your fire seems to do the trick."

Toya winched at the fire fart's name. But if the old man could do it, he could too.

"Don't worry, I can probably get you out with my wings if he charges at you." Hawks said.

"I have a better idea…"

Hawks frowned, "Don't push, you will get yourself killed."

"Yeah… yeah… cut it wings. Just so you know we are the only ones that could do anything." Toya said pointing at the running sidekicks and police officers. Toya eyed the beast, he was so focused that he forgot who he was talking to. "Any tips?!"

Hawks clicked his tongue, "I don't know, the fire hero last time used his prominence burn on him…"

"For the last time, I don't want to hear that man's name," Toya said, snapping his fingers, as a ball of condensed blue fire appeared above his hand. "And I am pretty sure, I am going to half cook myself. So please have Blackdrift ready, he needs to cool me off, if I burn myself… too much."

"What are you going to…" Hawks couldn't finish the wordsbefore Toya ran forward throwing the ball of fire inside the firewall.

But it was for a different reason. The fireball, detonated in a blast of blue light, blinding anyone that was foolish enough to look at it. It acted like a flashbang, blinding the giant.

The firewall was already lowering and Toya took the chance to break out, going through it. Running towards the blinded beast, he lowered himself getting close, giving himself a few meters of distance before he pushed his blue flames on the floor. "Prominence Burn!" he screamed out with the deepest voice he could muster, trying to copy that man's voice. And it seemed to work.

The giant villain still blinded crossed his arms taking steps back. Toya smirked. "Grow some brain cells you giant fuck." He mumbled, smiling.

The ground beneath the giant pulsed blue flames, before it melted. The giant sank with his overweight, getting stuck in the melted road. Only then did he try to open his eyes.

"Oh, no you don't," Toya said, flicking away another small fireball at the beast, which again erupted in a flashbang. Blinding it.

The giant could probably get out as it only had its legs stuck. But as if a light bulb popped in Toya's head. He ran forward, his right hand already curled up in a ball, and he threw the fireball at the giant's midsection.

The fireball exploded in that area as the giant wimped, holding his groin.

Toya jumped behind a tossed vehicle looking for anything that he could use.

Looking up towards a building sideways Toya saw a water tank on the top of a nearby for stories building. Pulling his hand inside, he condensed a fireball, this one bigger than the previous one.

And he shot his way, take out the water tank. Most of its content wouldn't have poured on the giant, if not for Hawk's help, who guided the fall with his wings. It fell on the giant, hardening the road, trapping the roaring beast.

"Thanks for the help." Toya looked back towards where Hawks was, a smile plastered on his face. "Also, this doesn't consider as attacking a villain right?" he said grinning. "I just gave him a warm road bath."

"…who are you?" Hawks said, with a frown. He was about to say more… when All-Might came crashing down as if a thunderbolt hit the villain, the number one hero struck it, knocking it out cold.

"Thank you, young heroes." He said a weak smile nothing like his confident one, but still he was smiling before jumping away.

Both teenagers open-mouthed saw the hero leave. Toya didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but the giant was knocked out. And as All-Might took the credit, he wouldn't get into trouble, so that was a plus.

But even though it was for a moment, Toya and Hawks saw All-Might. They found it hard to believe that, he was in a rough shape, and he seemed to hold the left side of his stomach. Could any villain do something like that, well, not your ordinary ones.

But if All-Might was here, that meant the villains were already dealt with, that was good news.

Toya stood up, "Well at least someone acknowledged me as a hero." He tried to play it off, but the smile on his face said otherwise. He just talked to his favorite, well, he didn't respond back, but that totally counted as a talk.

"And he took out the villain in one punch…" Toya nodded to himself, looking at the half berried giant on the road.

Hawks landed near Toya looking at the mess, he would have a lot of explaining to do to the hero commission. His eyes landed on Toya, the boy was a mystery.

That wasn't some random citizen playing hero, he was obviously trained. Knows his stuff, which could mean a lot of things, but one of them was that, he might be associated with villains.

His gut told him otherwise but he needed to be careful. Toya jogged towards Backdraft, saying something to him. And the man, sprayed him with water, making him wet.

Only then did Hawks notice that the burn marks over his arms. Both of his arms were sleeveless, burn off by his quirk but what made Hawks winch were the several burn marks plastered on it. That was done by his quirk.

Such a powerful quirk, with such a big weakness. His firepower could maybe match Endeavour, but the number two hero didn't have the burning problem.

Hawks didn't say anything, but he was going to have his eye on him. Maybe the Hero agency could do something with him.

Toya on the other hand felt like ripping his arms off. They heart so bad, but he held on to it. He stopped his burns to the minimum so that was a huge win for his parts.

He still needed to make his escape. And it was a bit of trouble to do that when a real UA intern student was constantly having an eye on you.

"And what the fuck are you doing here?" A female voice said, making every hair on Toya's body go up. Shit.

He moved his head towards her, not before someone had already placed an arm over his shoulder, in a friendly manner. He looked towards them, this is bad.

The female in question was Burnin, who had a scowling face, don't get her wrong, she just looked that way. And the one who had a arm over Toya's shoulder was Onima, who had a cheerful smile on his face.

And also there was a third one, a man wrapped up in bandages, almost looking like a living mummy, Kido was his name. And the worst thing was all of them were his father's sidekick.

Toya smiled nervously, "Wh-What brought you guys here?"

"That's a stupid question." Burnin spat, "What are you" —pushing her finger on Toya— "doing here?"

"Now, now, Burn, don't be rough on little Toya." Onima said with his usual smile. But calling Toya little would an understatement as he was tall as Onima.

Toya knew all three of the Sidekicks for years now. But he didn't like any of them. Just like that man, all of them garbages in their own way. It was a wonder how his father recruited all of the clowns.

"But…" he looked at Toya, "You didn't use your quirk illegally? Did you?" he said looking at Toya's clothes which were half burnt off.

Toya brushed of Onima's hand taking a step back, "Illegally as in I stopped that thing…" using his thumb to point towards Giantomatchia. "Yeah, I did." Toya usually would have lied but if they were here, maybe that piece of shit was here as well. And he the last thing he wanted to do is act weak in front of them.

Theree of them looked at each other, before bursting out laughing.

"That was a good one." Onima said in between his laughs, "With your quirk, it would be a miracle if you could light a candle except burning yourself off."

Burnn the girl with green flames for hair, sneakered, "We have hero work to do. So don't get in our way, chump."

Kido, the living mummy was the last one to go, not before saying, "Don't try to embarrass your father that way."

And with that, the three of them were gone. Well, that worked as a charm. He breathed out in despoilment, huh, people didn't hold a high view of him, did they?

It wasn't arrogance or anything but Toya was sure he could take one of them out if he tried. And it was very tempting to do so.

Toya took out his phone, the network was still down. His mother and siblings would get worried. And he really didn't want to see that man's face right now. Well time to leave then.

"You know them?" Hawks said, making Toya almost winch. He couldn't get out that easily could he.

Toya looked at Hawks, opening his mouth closing them. He ran out of lies, didn't he. He sighed, "They kinda work for my father…" he said shrugging his shoulder. "That should explain why, I am better than most of the pro heroes out there, while still being a civilian." The last statement was almost an insult. But fuck pleasing people.

And with that Toya started to walk away, and surprisingly Hawks didn't stop him this time. It took almost three hours to return home, as no vehicles were on site. He literally had to drag himself through.

And when he went home, things turned to worst.

.

Toya woke up almost feeling exhausted, last night was a mess. But he didn't want to think about it the first thing in the morning. With groggy eyes, he got out of bed freshening up.

He looked at the calendar, a sad smile on his face, this was a marked day. The day he was supposed to take the UA exam. Now it was just another day.

By the time he was at the table breakfast was already made. Just the usual stuff, but Fuyumi's cooking skills were getting better. Luckily after the attack on Duki city, Enji didn't return home at night. And Toya was glad not to see his face.

After finishing breakfast he would have locked himself in his room for the day, but he was stopped. He looked back at the hand that was placed on his shoulder

"What is it now, Natsuo?" Toya asked already feeling annoyed.

Natsuo was two years younger than Toya but they looked almost similar, with both of them having snow-white hair, albeit Toya was a bit taller, due to the age gap. But even Toya had to admit, out of the siblings Natsuo was the most mature one.

"How are you holding up…"

"Pretty good, considering I just lost my dream of being a hero." Toya shrugged, trying to cut out from the conversation. But he was stopped again, oh, this will get an ear-full.

"Still, you shouldn't have acted that way, towards her." Natsuo said in a low sad-filled voice. "You know as much as I do, that wasn't her fault."

Maybe he shouldn't have. "But she knew, Natsuo," Toya said, knocking away Natsuo's hand. "She knew…"

"But…" Natsuo started, words dying in his mouth when he saw how frustrated Toya was. "But, just know that, she is in the same boat as us."

Toya filled a pang of guilt. He was right though, their mother didn't have any say in this. But the fact that, when he got home last night, telling what their piece of a crap father did to his dream of getting to UA or any Hero school actually.

And when she brought up a form of a high-school in general studies, in her home town. That was the last thing he nodded.

That also meant that she knew that, that man would do such a thing. A little heads-up would have been nice. Just thinking about made his blood boil. Couldn't she told her beforehand, but then again, would that help the situation.

Natsuo sighed, "Just talk to her, brother. She hadn't had her breakfast yet."

Before Toya could open his mouth Fuyumi came along, pushing a tray of food onto him. "You are in this with him, aren't you."

Shoto who was still having his breakfast, coughed a laugh, gaining a glare from Toya. That made a smile appear on both Natsuo and Fuyumi. Toya just sighed.

Usually, Shoto wouldn't have breakfast with them. He could only do so when that man wasn't around.

With a grumbling face, Toya took the tray of food and started walking towards their mother's room. He stopped knocking on the door, he looked back, seeing all three of his siblings peaking around from the corner. Toya's face twitched, they were enjoying this weren't they.

"Come in." He heard his mother's voice. And he got inside her room.

Her mother Rei Todoroki, sat on her bed, medical equipment attached to her. From birth, Toya saw little mobility from his mother. She suffered from a disease that was unique to her powerful ice quirk.

Toya closed the door, setting down the tray on the table, that was near her bed. She didn't say anything, she just looked over an album of old photos.

"Am I a bad mother, Toya?"

Toya felt a pang of guilt, maybe he spoke too much last night. "I-I am sorry, for last night…"

Last night after getting home, he may have gone overboard. Well, he only didn't inherit that man's fire quirk, did he.

For some time his mother was silent, before starting.

"Did you know Toya, when you were little, he wanted you to be a hero?" She started. "And he kept feeding you that dream, and you always used to complain that you didn't want to, that the training was hard. And I didn't stop it, I couldn't. And then his dream also became yours, I was happy at the time. Looking at it now, maybe I should have acted then…"

"Please!" Toya snapped. "I never wanted to be the number one hero, and all that bullshit. I wanted just to be a hero. To make good use of my powers… I am nothing like that man." Toya wanted to punch himself so bad, why did he have to snap. But he was fuming with anger, childhood memories weren't his favorite.

"There are other ways to do it, Toya." She said gently, placing a hand above his own. Toya looked at her gentle eyes. "Please, Toya it's for your own good. Just… just think about it."

Toya breathed out, pinching the bridge of his nose, looking up tears forming on his eyes. Confronting his so-called father would do him no good. And his mother didn't want it either. That's why she wanted him to move out, and live with his grandparents, and study in a high school there.

"Okay." he sighed. "I will think about it."

Getting out of the room, Toya returned to his own, crashing down on his bed, setting aside the documents that his mother gave. There were other ways to be a hero, even if he didn't study in a hero course. That was a private hero test, which had only a 5% pass rate. If he could get the money for that, maybe he could apply for the test.

But who was he kidding, the first problem was the money, one million yen were needed, just to apply for the stupid test, he would need to work full time just to collect that amount. But even then Endeavor could easily cancel that as well.

So was this the end of his hero journey? Maybe, he got up, sitting on the corner of the bed. A smile appeared as he thought about last night. Saving people, helping them, fighting strong villains…

He could still feel the tug of excitement rolling in. If only he could do that every night… Toya's eyes widened in realization.

He looked over the documents that were placed on his bed. Maybe… A grin appeared on his face.

And that was how it all started.

.

Dabi coldly looked at his face, black scars inching along the lower half of his face to the neck, silver staples to hold his remaining skin intact, he looked horrible, luckily not all of his scars were real. Dark lifeless black eyes shone in the mirror, as he tied his hair to a bun. It wasn't that long, just long enough to have a man bun in.

How many years has it been since the incident with All-Might, two years maybe? He just wanted to save people then, helping the needy, to be a hero.

What started as a vigilante carrier, quickly turned. Fate had other plans for him. "At least I doing something useful," Toya said, but he was better known as Dabi in the underground circle and in the villain world.

Peeling away the dark skin that he wore on his lower half, wiping away the makeup, he removed his staples and piercings, looking almost normal. And then he washed his face, cleaning away the remaining makeup that decorated his face. With some difficulty, he even removed his dark contact lens, showing his Turquoise blue eyes underneath.

He took off the un-usual black jacket that he used for villain work and wore a white long-sleeved one, that hid the scars on his arms, they were the real ones. The scars on his face weren't real, but that was a different story altogether when it came to the scars on his arms.

He barely had any skin left there. It wasn't bad, now, he didn't need to feel the pain of burning himself. He looked at his reflection one last time, before giving himself a smile. He almost forgot how he looked, with his constant jobs.

Sometimes in this line of work, and with his persona, he was sure that he would forget how to smile. Now he looked like Toya again, a high-school dropout that had a charming face if not anything.

He looked at his hair, it was already tied. But he checked his wristwatch, there was still some time, so he took the liberty to wash away the black color show cashing his snow-white hair underneath.

He was almost nineteen now, and his face showed maturity. Light tanned skinned, with sharp facial features, coupled with his body packed with muscles, he would have been a lady killer, well, if that lady was blind enough to ignore the burning scars hidden in his body that is.

After drying off his hair, tying it in a man bun, he took off from his run-down apartment. It was a humble place actually, a small bed, with some stuff, scattered around his three-room apartment. But the air around here was damp and moist, it was because the apartment, was in a not-so-friendly neighborhood. Heck, his neighbor was a petty drug dealer, if it cleared something.

Rather than going through the front gates, he climbed his way out through the fire exit. It was early morning now, most of the criminals were either stoned by drugs, or dead by bullets, so he wouldn't need to watch his back that much.

He checked his wallet one last time, sorting away the different IDs, he took out one that had a similar look to Toya. It was funny that he didn't have his original ID on him, it was still at home, somewhere at the Todoroki household.

After taking the train and journeying for two hours straight he was in front of a fancy British restaurant. The moment he stepped in, he felt multiple eyes watching him. But he ignored them, he was almost used to it by now, almost. Walking through the almost empty restaurant, he took in the smell of roasted coffee beans, for once it was refreshing. As it was still too early for customers, here, most of the seats were empty, only workers that gave him a curious glace, before doing their job. It felt peaceful, good, he hoped that the city would stay that way.

Going up to the second floor he sat down opposite to a blond young man. Looked similar to his age, the man gave a small smile, when he saw Toya.

The young man had golden blond hair and that was kept steady over his forehead, almost covering his light eyes, and he wore a white simple shirt and black pants. Almost looking like an office worker. Nobody would ever guess this was the rising star in the Hero ranking, Hawks.

Who was still in his third year at UA, but had enough fame to establish himself in the hero rankings. Currently, he was in the 30th position, because of him still being undergraduate. It was a wonder, how he could pull off a disguise, just by changing his hairstyle.

"Oh, you came early." Hawks said, flashing a friendly smile. "And… you look normal."

Toya narrowed his eyes, as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I will take that as a compliment."

He smiled again, "Come on, take a joke will ya." Hawks almost was unrecognizable without his signature hairstyle and red wings. Toya knew the wings were there but was hidden underneath his clothes. But how? Well, that was a different question.

"Oh, look breakfast has arrived, my friend." Hawks said in Japanese accent, which was only used by foreigners, you know the ones that tried very hard to make their Japanese sound normal, but it still sounded different due to their origins.

The waitress came with two plates of eggs and bread, decorated in a fancy way, —as if that would justify the bill— and glasses with juice. The lady stayed for a while before going off, not before giving Hawks a small piece of paper, when he 'accidentally' placed a hand over his shoulder.

Toya rolled his eyes, "You know just because you are blond, you aren't a westerner, so stop acting like one."

Hawks ignored his comment, checking the phone number on the paper, that said 'call me'. "Come on, you don't have to be jealous"

"I don't have time for this, Hawks," Toya said, eyes cold looking at his friend.

Hawks nodded, before drinking some juice from his glass. He sighed, "You barely, take a day off or two. Always working. Almost reminds me of a hero that I know" Toya almost scoffed at the comment, and Hawks grinned.

"But, that's what the agency likes about you. If there was an award for the best undercover agent, you would surely get one."

Toya leaned back on his chair. "Stop beating around the bush, birdbrains." He said, leaning into the table, narrowing his eyes. "Spill it."

Hawks sighed, loosening his tie, relaxing a bit. It was almost as if he was nervous. "It's just that the agency wants you to… do another job, before… you know…you get what's rightfully yours. But the job is important."

Toya wasn't angry, he knew this was likely going to happen. "You call me your friend, and I consider you one too. But I hope I at least get paid for this one." He badly needed some support gear and a few items which were above his budget for now. And stealing black money didn't feel right all the time, or was it easy.

"Hey, I am not the one that blows things up." Hawks said. "And that takes out a lot from the agency to cover up your tracks. But if you want money, just ask. That's the last thing you should worry about."

Toya didn't say anything, which made Hawks sigh.

Hawks looked through the massive wall window, looking down from the second floor. People passed beneath them, going to their job. It was peaceful.

"Do you trust the agency?" Toya said, "The Hero agency, has been giving me a lot of shady work lately, some of them are even illegal. I just, don't think… you know they are ethically right." There was a bit of accusation in his voice.

They both knew what he was talking about. It was about the hiding the crimes done by well-known heroes, all for public image. Most of them were minors such as not paying food bills or crossing the traffic lights, but some of them were down right wrong. Maybe that was the reason why, Endeavor could do what he does to his family, and still get away.

"Toya look, I don't like everything the agency does." Hawks admitted. "But… you can say that they are the necessary evil. Also finding dirt on Endeavor is a tough catch. And you want the agency to blackmail him with that. That's a tall order. Also, you will get your records clean and get not-so-fake degrees from a well-known university. All of this is hard to make up." Sometimes Toya wondered if the Hero Agency should quit their job and try making fake documents, that would be a more profitable business. Toya almost smirked at his thought. But he was too annoyed to show it.

"Five jobs, that was the deal," Toya said, holding up his five fingers, almost showing the scars that were under his wrist. "Then you guys would find a way for me to be a hero, legally. And that's over. I don't get it, why you guys can't put that man's crimes in public and let the public decide what to do next."

"You know that's not possible. It could cause distrust in the heroes, and… you know other stuff."

Toya remained silent, still, his arms crossed over his chest, looking at the blue cloudless sky. "But it was supposed to be over."

Hawks leaned back. "I know, I know." Taking another sip from his glass. "But as I see it, you are way too effective to let go, for the agency. So they want you to do another job. And I promise, this is the last one."

Toya almost remembered the day, when Hawks had caught him on his vigilante job. There the red wings offered him something he couldn't refuse, a way to be free. But freedom came with its setbacks. Still, with how much good the agency was with making fake IDs Toya was sure, they would give him some fancy paperwork, that would help him with his future hero life. At that time he was still not mature enough to know the difference so he accepted it. But now, he was regrating some of his decisions.

Toya sighed, "Do I have a choice." He said, finally taking the spoon and breaking the poached egg. "I will do it. Also, find me a good apartment next time."

Hawks smiled widely. "Now, that's good news." He said, finishing his drink, sliding a brown file towards Toya, who took it in. "Also, try to not fry the villain next time, came from the big man up on the ladder. It's hard to get testimonies, if you do."

Toya shrugged, "Yeah, next time when you see a homicidal manic trying to rape a mother in front of his son, you say that." He said, "And besides, even the criminals that worked under him, didn't like him that much." It wasn't a popularity contest but he had to tell something to justify his actions.

"Ooh, touche~" he said, "But I usually, chop the dick off. It's better that way." A dangerous glint appeared in his eyes, as he said those words. "But with those severe burns… it was difficult. But who cares, let them handle it."

There was a pause before both of them burst into a laugh. The restaurant workers only saw two teenagers having fun gossiping about stuff, not knowing how toxic their topic was.

.

"See, senpai. You didn't need to get all worried and all." Hawks said over his comms as he saw Toya leave. "He's harmless."

The person on the other side, scoffed. "Yeah, a harmless firecracker, just like his dear old dad. He almost killed thirty people on the last job." A female voice came. "The criminals were better off dead. Now, they will have to be feed by taxpayers' money."

"When did you start thinking about citizens that much?" Hawks said raising an eyebrow. "And you should have said that earlier, I could tell him to finish the job and not let them live." He said, amusingly.

"That's not the point," she said. "At least Endeavor, has a leash, because of the media and whatnot. And he doesn't kill that often. But him, he is cold as his old man and more. When it comes to criminals, he's a monster. And that's dangerous."

Hawks didn't say anything. His past wasn't the most colorful one, but he had to agree with some of his senior's points.

"I don't care if they live or die. But just because you have some legal backup, doesn't mean you can just do everything." She said coldly. "But you have to know, villains and heroes are made of the same cloth. Just a twist and a bad day, that's all it takes. What if he attacked you, just like he did with Native."

"Even you know that's way far-fetched." Hawks said, frowning. "And he was caught red-handed trying to sexually assault a waitress. We would have done the same, you know."

"Yeah, but he was a hero. It's one thing for a hero to stop another, then for a villain to stop a hero." She said. "And we only put hands on them behind closed doors. Not in front of a dozens of people. It was almost amusing, how frustrated the council got, when they had to berry the subject."

"So, what's your point?" Hawks asked.

"Nothing. I don't particularly care about him, but the agency wants to hold a tight leash over him, which often makes things worse. That's why they sent me." She said. "Which is bad, bad for him that is. They usually sent me to clean up their mess." She said, with a bit of sadness and frustration in her voice.

Hawks eyes widened for a second, before he sighed, sadly even he knew the reality. The hero society wasn't all about glamor and fame. It also had it dark corners. "But… if they do put a hit on him. Just tell me beforehand." Hawks said. "And that's a request I ask you as a friend." There was a bit of sincerity in his voice.

The person on the other side nodded. As she stood up from her position, her arm, morphing back to a normal hand. She looked at Toya one last time, with her binoculars one last time, as them boy with snow-white hair, took a cab going off.

"I will try." She said. "They usually don't give me a long notice."

Then she moved away from the high-building rooftop.

.

"… they usually don't give me a long notice." Toya heard, his eyes cold. Fire and anger, waiting to be released. But he stopped himself. As he sat on the back seat of the cab, as he finished listening to their conversation.

He didn't want to, but in this world, you could only trust a few people. But still, he felt bad when he set up the bug underneath the table, but now, he wasn't sure what to do with the information. 'It seems, his tech works better than a charm. I should probably start keeping tabs on him, more often.' He said, the bug that he bought was from a new rising star in the criminal market, from a tech criminal. From a tech guy, called Tinkerer. And it worked too well for Toya's liking. If he could use it that way, so could the villains…

He was getting off track, maybe he thought too much for others. That might be the reason why he was always at a clutch.

The incident they were talking about only happened, because the so-called agency didn't have their info right. If he didn't stop those shitheads, then and there, the group of thirty or so criminals would have attacked a middle school. And based on their previous records, Toya was sure there would have been causalities. So he took the matter into his own hands.

But it seems that the agency doesn't like his hands-on approach. They just wanted him to follow orders, heck, Toya was half sure that the agency wanted some heroes to stop the crime mid-way to get a public stunt.

'No matter, what I try. I am always at the losing end.' Toya gave off a frustrated sigh, before putting the earpiece away.

.

[A/N: Hey, I have to warn you guys about something. Don't overestimate Dabi's capabilities. Yes, he can with his wittiness & cunningness can take down villains, but he only took down as in was able to hold Giantomatchia for a few minutes because of his smart thinking and All-Might was there to finish the job. He still isn't the level of a pro-ranked hero, yet. His power level is lower than when he was first introduced into the MHA verse.

And even Ginatomatchia in this story got his gigantification quirk from OFA a few months ago. So he isn't strong like in the manga. But you guys don't have to think about it that much, just enjoy the story.]

Dabi ran with all the strength he had. He needed to move faster, faster than anyone. Today he would give anything, even his quirk to run a bit faster.

'Why couldn't things be just easy,' he wondered. He was almost out of breath, supporting himself with a nearby wall he started limping. But he didn't stop, he couldn't stop. He looked down to see the little girl on his lap, tightening her grip on his jacket.

Bandages could be seen wrapped around her arms and legs. 'Those fucking bastards, how could they do this to a little girl.'

Dabi gritted his teeth, holding her close to his chest. His left leg hurt real bad. And blood was still pouring down from the wound. Dragging along the uneven road.

He got around a corner, before crouching down. Placing the girl on a box. "Close your eyes," Dabi said to the little girl. The girl was shaken up and was pretty terrified, so she complied.

With a bit of difficulty, he looked down on his leg. There was a gaping hole a few inches below his ankle, to large for a bullet. He ripped off the bleeding part of his pants off, to see the wound, it didn't look good. He gritted his teeth, before wrapping the wound with his two hands before smoke started coming off.

A painful grunt escaped his throat. Why did he still have skin on his legs, he wondered. It would have been far less painful if it wasn't there.

The bleeding is stopped, but the damage is too much. With how bad it hurt, he was sure the bone was fractured. He looked around for something.

They were in a small alleyway, and this area was mostly abandoned. And it was also nighttime. The police would get here a bit too late. So he needed to buy some time. And for best results, get out from here. He looked around for anything the could be useful.

A few trashcans, broken bottles, and garbages that was all he could see. There was also a metal stair that led to the roof, and that caught his eye.

Thinking of something, he grabbed the rusty metal bars attached to the stairs, pulling them off with his hands, ripping it off the concrete. He took three bars that were still attached together.

And he placed them horizontally on his left leg, bending them around his leg, to make a makeshift support for his leg. It was a bit of awkward walking with this, but it lessened his pain. And he ripped a part of his jacket from the bottom, wrapping it around the metal bars to hold them in place. That should do for now.

He heard a gasp, moving his head towards the girl, who looked at his wound with horror. Even with the moonlight, one could see the blood on the floor. "A-Are you okay?"

Dabi forced a smile, "I-I am fine. But we still need to move. So, please hold on to me, tightly. Okay?" He said, "And whatever happens don't let go.

The girl nodded, as Dabi forced himself up, gently picking up the girl. His leg hurt like, hell, but he bared it. The bleeding was stopped and he almost had a makeshift support for his leg, that would do for now.

Before moving he ripped another portion of his jacket off, tieing it around the girl —who was clinging on his chest— so that she wouldn't fall off.

Before he could think about anything else, the ground shook. And that was his cue. He held the girl tight near his chest, before running out of the alleyway.

Just as he did, the building behind him, twisted in weird ways as spikes came out of it, and it started following them. He needed to get away from those things, previously one of them was able to penetrate his legs. And that was the reason behind his wound.

Dabi clicked his tongue, spinning around, crouching down, his hands already on the floor. The ground in front erupted in blue flames, just before the spikes could hit him. It melted the concrete spikes before they could get near. Burning most things to ashes.

But just to be safe, he jumped back. His breathing was ragged. He was almost out of energy. So he needed to act fast. But for now, he moved his legs, running.

The area around them was surrounded by run-down abandoned buildings, not far from their current location was a bridge that connected to a populated Naruhata city.

He just needed to go through the bridge, just getting near it would be fine, once he was there, he could create a signal. The communication is jammed in the area. So he was left alone with dogs behind his back.

Even as the spikes kept coming, Dabi kept running. The dogs were catching up, but the bridge was almost near. He could see the road that connected to the bridge. It would take only ten minutes to get there.

"Boss, he's here." Dabi heard a sound, and he moved his head to the side to see a face on the road. He didn't waste one minute throwing his fire on the road, he heard a painful grunt before the face was gone, leaving behind a burnt mark on the road.

Dabi smirked a little, that felt good.

The small girl was still holding onto his chest, and he needed to get her away from this quickly. If there were other options, he would have stayed here and killed every single bastard that was related to this incident. The Yakuza would be erased if he could just let loose.

Even though it was wishful thinking to go up against the Yakuza alone, almost a death wish. But when he looked at the scars the small girl had, it was even worse than how his father treated him. So he knew how it felt and he was furious.

"Finally, caught you." A loud scream came from above, and Dabi rolled to the side just in the nick of time to miss a giant size of a man crashing down on where he previously was.

Suddenly Dabi felt his head spin and strength leave his body. 'What was happening?' He dropped to his knees, but still was careful not to let the small girl fall.

The dust settled letting Dabi see his face, even with the moonlight Dabi recognized him due to his large body. Raikiya Katsukami, a c-ranked hero with a quirk that lets him steal someone's stamina if and only if he touches them.

And he was sure that the villain didn't touch him, then why. Maybe… "So you took the drug? Huh."

The villain charged into him, trying to land a fist. But even with his losing stamina, he was somehow able to invade it. And then used his fire from his hands to propel him backward, gaining some distance.

"You are smart kid, I will give you that. You figured it out with one glance." He said. "But betraying us was the last thing you should have done."

"Oh, you sound like a broken tape recorder for a villain. Say some new lines will you. And just to be clear you have no idea how much I question my life choices." Dabi said with a weak smirk on his face. He needed to move away from him. If it was like other quirks, he needed to have vision on the target to steal stamina from his opponent. But he wasn't seeing any place to hide or take cover in. Most of the buildings around were demolished or burned.

"Still, have your tongue, eh?" The muscular villain started taking steps towards him, cracking his neck in a lazy fashion. "I will make sure to rip it off your face, after this." With this, he fully charged towards Dabi.

Gritting his teeth, Dabi held out his hands in front, placing one over the other, while his palm was facing the villain.

"That won't work on me." The villain screamed as he got near, his hands already crossed over his face to block the fire.

But Dabi smirked, "Who said it was for you?" He faced his hands downwards, before blasting off his blue flames. It gave him enough boost to get airborne. But he would soon fall.

'I don't want to do this…' Dabi thought before his boots engulfed in flames, burning off his pants below the ankle. And the fire from his feet was enough to jett him through the sky. Making him fly.

His feet hurt like hell and flying wasn't his strong suit. Unlike his father, he always had to be careful to have minimal contact with his fire or his skin would meltdown. And he wasn't sure how he was going to walk after this, but he gritted his teeth and bared the pain.

He could see the bridge not far from where he was. He just had to get near, maybe some hero would be around the area. It was a wishful thinking, but he ignored it with his pain.

His feets hurt like hell, and he could even feel the metal bars strapped to his left leg getting melted and stick to his skin. But he tried to ignore it as much as possible.

Suddenly he felt a sudden jolt of fear, and by pure instincts, he moved his body to the right to avoid a sharp projectile thrown at him.

Fuck. Even in the air, he wasn't secure. And one after the other, several projectiles were thrown at him. Dabi was able to look at one of it, it was actually concrete spikes thrown at him.

He needed to go up if he wanted to avoid them. But before he could, he felt a sudden pain from his right thigh. Dabi's eyes widened in horror as he winched in pain, one of the projectiles was stuck to his leg, and he was loosing mobility in the air.

He saw several other spikes thrown at him from below. And the girl was still in his arms, she would be injured as well. So, just like that, his body moved on its own, as he spun midair.

Several small spikes piercing his back, knocking the air out of him, he did the use some flames from his back to melt down the pointy edges, but with how many they were it was a futile effort.

He smashed into a rooftop, with the girl still balled up in his chest. He took the all the force himself landing on his back, not letting a scratch on her. But taking that much damage wasn't a smart move.

A low grown escaped his lips, as he tried to get up. And his lungs were basically begging him to stop. The bridge was a few blocks away. But he wasn't sure if he could make it.

"Are you alright?" The little girl asked with tears flowing down her face. The knot around the girl loosened as he moved away from him a little. "It's all my fault. If you didn't…"

"Hush, little girl," Dabi said, putting his back on a pillar. He winched when the wounds on his back flared up. "You can blame yourself when we are free. For now, just be strong."

The girl got up from his lap, keeping her head down. She looked at the sounds coming from afar, they were getting near. "Please just leave me… or they will hurt you."

Dabi sighed, how could they do this to a poor child. Were they even humans? He looked at the small girl, she was only five or six, he didn't know. But with how bad her condition was it was hard to guess her age.

She had white hair the same as his, but he was wearing the fake black colors so she wouldn't know. The other distinct feature was a small horn growing up from her forehead. Tears were flowing from the girl.

"What's your name?"

The girl looked at him as she wiped away her tears, "Eri."

"Eri-chan, that's a beautiful name." Dabi said, "Do you know the meaning of the word Eri?"

She shook her head, she was almost losing her breath due to the crying.

Dabi gave her a small smile, it was even harder for him to breathe. But with one of his hands, he wiped away the tears. "It's called 'blessing.' I am sure you are one. And don't listen to what those guys say, they are looser, that's why they hide…" Dabi was stopped midway, as he coughed. He tried to keep it low, but it still came out loud. He looked down at his hands, there was blood in them.

So now he was coughing blood. Just great. Dabi knew with his bleeding, he wasn't going to make it. But he still wanted to save this girl. That was his last wish, at least that way he could be someone's hero.

"What's your name, mister." The girl asked with a hiccup.

Dabi looked at her, giving a small smile. "Toya." He said. "But you have to keep it a secret okay." The girl nodded.

Dabi looked at the bridge. The way through the bridge wasn't that hard, if she ran straight, maybe. Suddenly Dabi felt his pain getting less, he frowned looking down. The girls hands glowed in white light as his pain started leaving by the seconds.

She had a healing quirk? No, it was different. Dabi knew how healing quirks felt on his skin, he had a lot of visits to 'personal doctors' when he was still training with his father. It was different. It felt different.

The wounds on his back started closing down and even the skin on his feet started regenerating. This was beyond a healing quirk. The wound on his left leg started to disappear and even the melted bars on his legs started to get off his skin. It was as if things were getting backwards.

No, this wasn't a healing quirk. It's time-reversal. And his theory was confirmed when even the metal bars started straightening even losing their rustiness in the process.

So, that's how they could make their quirk erasing bullets. Shit. Now everything adds up. He knew from the lab report previously given to him, it said that there were traces of DNA in the bullets. Now, he knew what they were doing.

They were using her as the main ingredient for the bullets.

It only made Dabi furious. And having most of his wounds healed and stamina regained helped. Even if Dabi was able to cross the bridge with Eri, he was sure the Yakuza would tack them down before they could get to the police or any other heroes.

So he needed to stall them. Dabi took out his phone, the screen was already cracked, but it wasn't broken, maybe it was from Eri's quirk. And looking at the network bar, made him beyond happy. So he immediately sent the SOS.

"Wow, Eri-chan you have such an amazing quirk," Dabi said, his voice was almost normal, losings the painful edges it had a minute ago.

The small girl was about to say something when she held her head in pain.

Shit. "Hey, are you okay?" Dabi asked.

"Ah-sorry." The girl said. "I am not used to using my powers."

Dabi sighed in relief, but that only confused him. With how powerful her quirk was, why weren't they training her? But then again, not everyone was the same kind of monster Enji was.

Dabi shook his head, now wasn't the time. "Eri-chan, can you see the bridge over there?"

The girl looked over the rundown rooftop towards the bridge. She nodded.

"You have to take this." He said, giving her the phone. "And run. When you revive a call, press this button, and say 'Help'. And remember to not stop running. I will find you so don't worry."

The girl was confused at first but the she looked terrified. "No, you can't stay." She said. "They will hurt you again."

Dabi for the first time, gave a confident smile. "No they won't." He smiled. "Thanks to you I am all good. You don't need to worry about me, but can you run?"

The girl weakly nodded. He took the girl one last time, before jumping off the rooftop. He landed then placed the girl on the floor, and pointed her to follow the straight path. "Now, go."

The girl hesitantly separated. Even as she ran, she looked back time to time at Dabi's scared face. When the girl was out of sight, Dabi spun around, facing away from the bridge. With a determined look, he made his way back.

And before long Raikiya Katsukami made his way towards him. And this time Dabi didn't back off, as he too started running towards him. With a snap of his fingers, a ball of condensed fire appeared on his hand. But he was sure to hide it from the villain's sight.

The moment Dabi felt his strength losing his body, he tossed the ball of blue flames out and looked away, it detonated creating a flash bag, blinding the villain in the process. It worked as Dabi felt his stamina not getting sucked off anymore.

While the large man slowed down and even grunted due to the sudden loss of his sight, Dabi speed up, jumping towards his opponent. Midair his hands caught fire as the moment he was near the giant he blasted the flames on his head.

The large man screamed as he tried to get back. Dabi's feet touched the ground before he swiped his feet making the villain fall on his back.

Even though the flames took the bird mask out off the villain's face, he still had his skin. How tough was his skin, anyway. Well, it wouldn't matter.

Before the villain could get up, Dabi jumped forward, placing on his hands on the villain's stomach, letting his flames loose. He would have done more, but a foot from the villain made Dabi fly several feet away. There was a small church and Dabi knew what it was. But he ignored it getting up immediately.

The villains screamed, as his inwards were gushing out of his stomach. This kind of explosion at close range had horrofing result that what Dabi had imagined, but he didn't feel a shroud of pity from him. He tried to get up, but Dabi was already near him, "This is for hitting my face asshole." The last thing the villain saw was a knee to his face.

But Dabi didn't stop, as he started stomping on his face with all his might. Even without his boots, Dabi was sure to crush his skull by the tenth time. And he stomped some more, before catching his breath.

It was hard to breathe, his nose was broken. With a pained look, he placed his palms on his nose, getting it in place. He grunted from pain, before breathing out.

"So, even the musclehead couldn't take you." A voice came, and Dabi knew who it was. He looked at the oncoming villain. The man was taller than Dabi and was wearing a plague doctor mask.

Kai Chisaki better known as Overhaul. He was wearing a black dress shirt with matching dress pants, a pale gray tie around his neck and a belt with a long, thin buckle around his waist, with three beaded lobe piercings in his left ear. Over this, he was wearing a dark olive-green bomber jacket with a thick purple fur collar and white lace-up sneakers with tan soles and no socks. The white surgical gloves he wears on his hands and the magenta plague mask he wears over his mouth, which is tipped and embroidered with gold, are his most distinguishing features.

The Yakuza were once a notorious criminal group working in Japan. But after the age of heroes, they like other criminal organization started to decline in power. Now they only had a handful of bases in Japan.

Kai Chisaki the young Yakuza leader hoped to revive their former glory. So they set up their own base in here. In Masima City, near the port. Easy for illegal sea shipments to come and go.

The area around here was mostly abandoned and government wasn't doing anything with it. So he took over.

They could easily send drugs and support gear out to the criminals all around Japan with this port. And Kai was smart enough to feed extra amounts of money to the local law enforcements. It was so they wouldn't spoil with his plan.

But today something happened that not only compromised their base but also their main product.

He first thought that it was some mole from the competing gangs or someone stuck-up hero. But when he found out it was Dabi, he was almost shocked.

A year ago he recruited the flame user himself, a dark horse so to speak. And he was loyal, or so he thought. It was a mistake. Not only did the flame user take down several members of the 'eight bullets' he also destroyed all the drugs that they smuggled in a few days ago.

It was a grave mistake from his part for recruiting him, and now Overhaul came personally to clear out his mistake.

Kai looked at Dabi with cold eyes. Dabi should have been injured, but seeing him well, made him raise his eyebrow. Did Eri use her quirk? Well, you learn new things everyday. So she was hiding her abilities. He made a self note to discipline her when she was captured.

But this wasn't the time for this. He moved his attention to Dabi. He needed to crush the bug first.

.

Dabi looked at Overhaul. He wasn't sure if he could take him on with his powers. His quirk was something that was akin to a miracle. An unique quirk that would have been very useful in a hero's line of work. Yet he was here, making people's lives miserable.

Dabi hated him for what he did to Eri. And he was going to stop him right here.

Dabi called his Blue flames out. Before he could do anything earth spikes erupted from where he was. But he was quick to move away. But this time the spikes didn't follow him.

Instead a man was flung from the ground as he dropped by Kai's side.

"I am sorry boss." The man said. "I am out of time." He huffed.

Kai looked at him with disinterest, before nodding.

Wait, all this time, I was fending off against Mimic, not Overhaul. That's some next level quirk-enhancement drug. Which was bad, even with Eri's help, Dabi was still running low on stamina. And Overhaul was still full of energy, where he wasn't. He wasn't sure if he could take Overhaul full on.

"You almost destroyed my organization, my years of hard work. And you think that I will let you go that easily?" Overhaul said, before removing his gloves. "I have other things to do, but I will take my time killing you." His hands went on his pocket, before he took a vial out.

Dabi's eyes widened as the Yakuza leader injected the quirk-enhancement drug in his bloodstreams.

Shit. Dabi's flames erupted from his hands, but it was too late, as a concrete wall, blocked it.

The Yakuza leader stiffened for a second, as he supported himself with a wall, or so Dabi thought. The surroundings around Overhaul started to change shape before they took the shape of spikes heading Dabi's way.

He moved his legs spinning backwards using his acrobatics to doge them. But the attack was only a distraction. As Dabi saw a wave of earth take away the body of Raikiya who was at the verge of death. Kai knelled down to his subordinate's body as he placed his hands on him.

And in front of his eyes Dabi saw how Overhaul 'fixed' him. Dabi's eyes widened. Not only was his quirk powerful, but it had many useful functions. Just for a moment Toya envied his opponent. But he quickly shook his head. He was Dabi now, and he wasn't going to let his emotions get in his way.

When Overhaul was finished he looked at Dabi, his hands already placed on a nearby wall. And suddenly massive earth spikes erupted from the ground, as they chased towards their target like a snake.

Dabi's flames erupted from his hands, as he started countering and dodging the earth spikes thrown at him. They were bigger and more stronger than Mimic's earth spikes, they were even faster, making Dabi dodge and throw fire blasts from time to time.

Two massive earth spikes rose from the ground going towards Dabi like a living snake. Dabi used his flames to propel himself upwards, missing the first one, as he started running on it. The other one crashed into the first spike destroying it, Dabi was quick to move away with the help of his flames, but some of the derbies smashed into him mid-air making him fall on a rooftop.

Kai seeing an opportunity hurdled up small earth rubbles throwing them in air. Dabi was a bit confused at first, but he felt the horror of the situation later when saw the ground twisting into small earth spike snakes moving towards him. They weren't that strong, but were huge in number. Dabi would have moved upwards but the rubbles from the sky came down making him hard to use his ability.

Dabi was mostly on the losing end, as he was trying to counter Kai's ability. Still, he was holding on, but the wounds started building up.

He needed to attack Overhaul directly, so he moved towards him with his flames giving him speed. Overhaul seeing his opponent get near surged a massive number of earth spikes towards him.

Dabi didn't have time to dodge all of them, and worse enough he was still midair, with his flames on his feet, making his way towards Overhaul.

Kai Chisaki smirked, Checkmate.

But he was wrong.

"Prominence Burn." Dabi's voice came. And the night sky just for a second witnessed a second sun. A blue sun.

The destruction of his flames destroyed the surrounding area. All the glasses in the neighborhood shattered due to the huge explosion and the earth quaked for a second.

Time seems to slow down for Chisaki as he saw the living Blue ember make his way towards him. For the first time in his life, Chisaki felt fear. The man unconsciously took a step back.

But Dabi was already there, his hand a few feet away from Overhaul's face. "Fire-flash Fist: Jet Burn." There was a huge wave of blue flames as it burned everything in sight to ashes.

Even Dabi was propelled backwards due to his own flames. With a few bounces, he fell onto the ashen ground. His breathing was ragged, almost out of air.

He smiled weakly, so that worked. He looked down on his own body finding it hard to believe that his clothes didn't catch fire. The agency sure knew their stuff. At least he wouldn't have to go back naked.

But the moment only lasted for a while, before Dabi heard an angry gruff. His eyes widened as he held his head up, with much difficulty to look at his opponent.

Standing there was something that only could be described as a huge pile of flesh, bulbing around and taking shape of a humanoid monster. There was no sight of Overhaul or his two associates, standing in their place was a ten-foot monstrosity that had four arms thick as logs, and a bird mask covering their face.

The creature looked at Dabi with angry red eyes as it slammed the ground. Hundreds of earth spikes erupted from below making their way towards their target.

Dabi looked in horror as he saw them coming. 'Move' He said to himself. 'Move damn it.' But his body jumped back, avoiding a few, but he wasn't going to make it in time to dodge them all.

They were fast and large in number. Even though they didn't follow him like before there were too many to avoid.

He gritted his teeth for another surge of pain, as he fired off another 'Prominence Burn.'

It was far less smaller than the previous one. But it did the job. But this time Overhaul or what was left of him didn't stop. As continues barrage of attacks landed on Dabi.

But the flame user didn't stop as he kept jumping back using his flames to gain distance in short bursts. His whole body felt like hell due to using 'Prominence Burn,' he needed to cool off. Or he might just pass out from the heat.

But before he could, suddenly he tripped and fell.

The ground beneath Dabi moved itself as it threw the fire user mid-air. A few of the earth spikes followed him, landing blows that tossed him out of the area. One of the spikes even managed to pierce his lungs almost making him loose his vision.

As he was falling his life flashed before his eyes, he knew this was the end. But at least Eri was safe.

But a sudden cry brought back Dabi's consciousness. Even while falling he followed the source of the cry as it landed on Eri. Who was being rough handled by Overhaul's subordinate. The man was pulling her up on a cargo ship, that was moving away from the city.

So they had already people stationed there. Dabi's worst thought came true.

He failed. He failed the mission. He failed himself. But most importantly he failed Eri.

Even as he crashed into the sea, he fired off a shot towards the ship. It should be able to signal any hero if they got the message. But even that was his wishful thinking.

Regret ate up his last ember of life as his consciousness faded away. The last thing he remembered doing was a small attack on the cargo ship's engine. Before the sea buried him.
