(A/N: Now we've made it to Chapter 2. It's time to find out how Dixie's feeling in this chapter. Perhaps she'll be okay? Let's read it and find out!)
Another hour had passed, and during that time, Diddy had somehow fallen asleep. But his slumber was interrupted a short time later.
"Diddy! DIDDY, WAKE UP! PLEASE!" Dixie called, hoping Diddy would awaken. She sounded like she was in great distress, and that she really needed his help.
"Huh? Wh-what's wrong?" Diddy asked groggily as he opened his eyes. He saw Dixie standing in the doorway to their bathroom. One hand was clamped tightly on the doorknob, she had the other hand on her stomach, she was practically bent over in excruciating pain, and she looked really unhappy.
"No relief, Dixie?" Diddy asked, surprised to see that his wife had gotten out of bed and walked to the bathroom without his help.
"It's gotten worse than we thought, Diddy!" Dixie said, sounding fearful and near tears.
"What's the matter?" Diddy asked, starting to wake up a little more. Dixie sounded really bad, like she needed serious help.
"I... I think I'm going to die..." Dixie asked, her voice quivering.
"Wh-what?! What gave you the idea that you're going to die?!" Diddy asked, snapping awake.
"Diddy, when I went to the bathroom, there was a lot of blood in the toilet, and I mean a lot! We're talking more than I see when Mother Nature comes to town. And I got over her at least 3 days ago." Dixie moaned.
"Dixie...?" Diddy said, getting scared for his wife.
"Let's face it, Diddy. I'm bleeding and dying. If there's any chance that I can be saved, then, as much as I hate to say it, I'm going to need you to get me to the hospital! NOW!" Dixie said.
Diddy didn't need to be told twice. He immediately leaped out of bed and threw on one of his favorite starry tank-tops.
"Okay, now let's get you dressed." Diddy started, about to look through his wife's outfits.
"Never mind that, Diddy! Just get me to the hospital!" Dixie said, clearly in agony.
"But Dixie, you're in your pajamas! Are you sure you want to go there in them?" Diddy said.
"Who cares?! I don't care! I'm decent enough! And it's not like the fashion police will be there!" Dixie said. Her pajamas that night consisted of a short-sleeved pink shirt and pants. Dixie figured that it was better than one of her sexy nighties. She was glad she decided not to wear one of those on a night like this.
"Okay." Diddy said, in no mood to argue with his wife. Then again, this wasn't exactly the time to argue with her. Not when she needed his help. He grabbed his jet-pack, lifted Dixie into his arms, and flew to the hospital.
One incredibly nerve-wracking ride later...
When they landed outside of the hospital, Diddy, still carrying his wife in his arms, ran into the emergency room as fast as his legs could carry him.
"Emergency!" Diddy screamed as loud as he could, catching the attention of a passing doctor.
"What's going on?!" the doctor asked, hurrying to the apes.
"Augh! Augh! I'm dying, you idiot!" Dixie cried.
"Dixie, please don't call the doctor an idiot! He's here to help you!" Diddy said.
"Do you really think I care what I'm doing right now, Diddy Kong?! I'm in pain, and I want drugs! Anything to make this pain stop!" Dixie screamed.
"Come with me!" the doctor said, leading the couple into a room.
Diddy set Dixie on the bed, and both of them told the doctor what was wrong with Dixie, how she had a really bad stomachache that wasn't going away, and how she was bleeding, despite Mother Nature having left her alone about 3 days ago.
"Am I going to die, Doctor? I don't wanna die! I wanna live! Help me live!" Dixie cried.
However, when he heard what Dixie was going through, the doctor had a pretty good idea of what was wrong.
"No, ma'am, I don't think you're going to die. In fact, I might have an idea of what's causing your pain." the doctor said.
"You do?! Good! In that case, do whatever it is you have to do to stop this pain! I don't care what it is! I won't even care if you have to use a big shot needle to stop the pain I'm in! Whatever it is, just do it! And do it NOW!" Dixie shouted.
"I will. I just need to check and make sure if I'm right about it." the doctor said. He began to rub some gel on her stomach.
"What in Sam Hill are you doing?!" Dixie asked, not knowing how this was going to help her.
"I'm going to give you an ultrasound." the doctor said.
"An ultrasound?! What for?! I don't think I need one of those! I just want whatever's causing me pain to get out of my body and leave me alone right now!" Dixie asked.
"Why does she need an ultrasound? I know that pregnant women usually get those, but Dixie isn't pregnant." Diddy added.
"So you say. There are some women who have babies without knowing that they're pregnant. They've got a show about that called 'I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant'." the doctor explained.
"I didn't know that." Diddy said. He remembered when Candy was expecting his little cousin, Donkey Kong IV. They all knew that she was pregnant. She had one of the symptoms, known as morning sickness, as well as the tell-tale baby bump.
"Why are we even doing this?! There's no point in giving me one of these because I know I'm not pregnant! We didn't try for one, and even if we did, I never had any of the symptoms!" Dixie complained.
"I think I know what the problem is. I think you might be pregnant without knowing it, and I'm going to give you an ultrasound to see if I'm right." the doctor said as he turned on the machine and moved the device around on Dixie's stomach.
"This is no fun..." Dixie groaned. If this didn't stop sooner or later, she wanted to die. At least she'd be out of her misery that way.
"Oh, look at that! I'm right! There is a baby in there!" said the doctor as he pointed out something that appeared on the screen.
To the couple's complete surprise, the screen showed them that Dixie was with child.
"That can't be!" Dixie gasped, forgetting about her pain for a moment.
"Is that really a...?" Diddy asked.
"Yes, you two are seeing that there is a baby in there!" said the doctor.
"If I'm having a baby, then tell me: why is this kid trying to kill me?!" Dixie asked, suddenly remembering the pain she was in.
"Oh, well, that's simple. It's time for the baby to come out. That's why." the doctor answered.
"I can't believe it! You're having a... We're going to have a..." Diddy gasped, hardly able to get out the last word.
"How can I be having a baby?! I didn't have any of the symptoms! I don't even have a baby bump!" Dixie cried. It was true. Dixie's stomach was completely flat. How a baby could be in there was beyond her.
"And we haven't even tried for a baby yet! I mean, I think it's great that we're having one, but... I wasn't expecting us to have one until maybe a few years from now." Diddy said.
"Neither was I! I want it out of me right now! Get it out!" Dixie said, in pain.
However, even though Diddy certainly wasn't expecting a baby right now, seeing it on the ultrasound made him feel rather excited. He was going to be a father.
Dixie also felt a little happy at the thought of becoming a mom on such short notice, but the pain kept her from showing it.
"Now, are you two sure that you're ready to be parents to this child? If not, you can always give him or her up for adoption after the birth." the doctor said, having heard that they weren't prepared for this at all.
Diddy couldn't bear the thought of giving up his first child. He really didn't want to do that. Not when he realized that he was about to become a father. But was Dixie willing to participate?
"Dixie, we are going to keep and raise this baby, aren't we?" Diddy asked his wife.
"Yes, Diddy, we'll be keeping the baby, because it's ours. But can we please get the kid out of me first? I'm dying here!" Dixie yelled.
"Okay! Let's do this!" said the doctor as he helped Dixie undress and get changed into a hospital gown. And then he remembered that Diddy was still in the room, he said, "Oh! Uh... normally, we advise the father to stay out of the room..."
"I'm not leaving her side. I don't want her to do this alone, without me." Diddy said, taking Dixie's hand in his, not caring how hard she squeezed it.
"I was going to add, 'but if you wish to stay in the room with your wife, you can.' But now that you've made the choice, you must stick with it... unless we have to give your wife an emergency C-section. Then you'll have to leave the room." the doctor said, and he got ready to help Dixie.
"Oh, I really hope that's not the case..." Diddy thought. He hoped his wife and the baby would both be okay.
So that's it! Dixie was pregnant, and she didn't even know it! Now there's a baby on the way! Stay tuned if you want to read about the baby!
