(A/N: So we've made it as far as Chapter 3! This is where the baby is introduced. I still don't own Donkey Kong, but I do own the baby.)
And after we skipped past the birthing scene, which was a complete nightmare for Dixie, the doctor held up the baby, which turned out to be a chimpanzee, like Dixie, and shouted, "Congratulations! It's a girl!"
"A girl?!" Diddy said, sounding excited. He didn't care if the baby was a boy or a girl; it was his firstborn, and he was going to love this child no matter what its gender was.
"A girl? I want to see! Let me see her!" Dixie asked, sitting up in surprise, having forgotten about how tired she was and how much pain she had been in during the process of childbirth.
"Hold on, I'm going to clean her off a bit." the doctor said, doing so. He then handed the baby to Dixie.
Dixie looked down at the tiny chimp in her arms, still feeling amazed by it all. A few hours ago, she and Diddy didn't even know that this child existed, and now she was here.
"Wow..." Dixie mouthed. How did this little miracle manage to keep its presence unknown from her and Diddy like it did for 9 long months?
However, she soon had to relinquish the child to the doctor and nurses, who took her to be weighed and measured, and of course, to get her shots.
It only took a few minutes, but it almost felt like hours to Diddy and Dixie, who were still pretty much overwhelmed.
"I still can't believe this is happening." Diddy said.
"Neither can I, and I'm the one who had to push until she came out." Dixie said, falling back onto the bed.
"You think you'll be okay?" Diddy asked.
"I've got relief now that it's all over, but I'll have more if the doctor or nurses tell me that she's fine." Dixie replied.
As soon as the doctor stepped into the room with their child in his arms, Diddy pressed the button on the remote for Dixie's bed, putting her into a sitting position.
"How is she?" Dixie asked.
"She's a perfectly healthy little girl." the doctor said, handing the baby to her mother.
"Thank goodness." Dixie whispered as she took her child into her arms and snuggled her close to her chest.
"But in spite of that, I'm going to advise that both of you stay here tonight." the doctor said.
"I'll be staying here with her. I had to bring her here by jet-pack. I'll arrange for us to get a ride home tomorrow." Diddy said.
When the doctor left the room, Dixie was sitting up in bed, finally holding their daughter again. Now the little one was snugly wrapped in a soft, pink swaddling cloth. Diddy moved himself towards the edge of the bed, trying to get a look at the beautiful little girl they had just brought into the world.
Now that she was all cleaned up and taken care of, Diddy and Dixie were able to get a very good look at their daughter. She was a very pretty baby chimp. She looked just like a miniature version of her pretty mother, but she had inherited her father's eyes.
"Look at her, Diddy. She's absolutely perfect and beautiful!" Dixie said, admiring her daughter.
"She sure is. Wow, It's almost hard to believe that we've got a child already! This is almost like a dream, and if it is, then don't wake me up. Let me enjoy this as long as I can." Diddy said.
"You're not dreaming. I never felt this happy in a dream, so I know we're both wide awake, Diddy. This little girl is certainly a wonderful surprise." Dixie smiled.
"And she needs a name." Diddy pointed out.
"Let's think of one. I want her to have a nice, pretty, sensible name..." Dixie said, and she and Diddy got right to thinking. After a few minutes, Diddy had an idea.
"How about we name her... Daisy?" Diddy asked.
(A/N: I once read that Nintendo Power used to mistakenly refer to Dixie as "Daisy Kong". That's where their child's name comes from.)
"You know something? I like that name. And it suits her well. Okay, she shall be known as Daisy Kong." Dixie said.
"Can I hold Daisy now?" Diddy asked.
"Sure. Here you go." Dixie replied, placing the child in her husband's arms.
"Hi, Daisy. I'm your daddy." Diddy said to the child as he gently stroked her mop of blonde hair. Turning to his wife, Diddy said, "Daisy is so beautiful, Dixie. She's so tiny and perfect! I feel so lucky!"
"We're both lucky. She's our little girl. A little angel we never saw coming!" Dixie said.
The pair sat in silence for a moment, thinking about what had happened not too long ago. It was almost unreal.
"It's almost hard to believe I'm already a father." Diddy said as he looked at his daughter again. Daisy had just fallen asleep in his arms.
"I know. I still can't believe I'm a mother now. Wait until Tiny, Chunky, and Kiddy hear about this. They're not going to believe it, either." Dixie said.
"Do you want to call them now and tell them?" Diddy asked, handing Daisy back to Dixie before pulling out his cell phone, which he figured he was going to need when he knew they had to come here.
"No, I think I'll wait until it's morning to do that. For all I know, they're asleep now, because it's pretty late. And even if I did tell them now, they may not remember it in the morning." Dixie replied. She looked at the clock on the wall and added, "It's going to be a long wait, though."
"You can wait if you want, but this is too much for me. I can't wait until the sun comes up. I've got to tell my big buddy right now before I explode!" Diddy said, searching for DK's phone number on his phone's contact list and choosing to call it.
Back on Kongo Bongo Island...
At Donkey Kong's treehouse, DK was awoken by the sound of the telephone on his nightstand ringing loudly. DK looked at his alarm clock, realizing it was late at night, and groaned as he picked up the phone.
"Hello?" DK said, not bothering to hide the obvious annoyance in his voice.
"DK, you are not going to believe this!" Diddy's voice said.
"Diddy? What are you thinking, calling me in the middle of the night, little buddy?! Do you have any idea how late it is?!" DK asked.
"I know it's late, DK, and I'm sorry, but I have some really big news to tell you that can't wait until morning!" Diddy said.
"Okay, let me hear it." said DK, wondering just what the big news was. He hoped it was something good, or important.
Diddy took a deep breath before starting, "Okay. You see, Dixie wasn't feeling well earlier tonight. She had a stomachache that was only getting worse and worse, which wasn't normal for her, so I finally had to take her to the hospital-"
"The hospital? You had to take Dixie to the hospital? Is she okay?" DK interrupted, now a little concerned. He liked Dixie, and he often thought of her as an honorary niece, since she and Diddy had been very close from the day they met.
"She's better than okay! Now here's the part you're not going to believe: Dixie just had a baby!" Diddy said.
DK was silent for a moment. Had Diddy just said that Dixie had a baby?
"...You're messing with me, right?" DK asked when he found his voice. In his mind, he replayed all the times he'd seen Dixie during the past few months. She sure as heck didn't look pregnant to him. And if she had been expecting at all, they would've let him know as soon as they found out.
"What's going on, DK?" Candy asked, having been awoken.
"Oops. Sorry for waking you, Candy." DK apologized to his wife.
"You didn't wake me up. I woke up when I heard the phone ringing. I thought of going back to sleep when you picked it up, but when I found out that it's Diddy you're talking to, I thought I'd listen in case he said something interesting. Given by your reaction, he must have. What's going on?" Candy asked.
"You won't believe it, Candy, because I can't. Diddy told me that Dixie just had a baby!" DK said, turning to his wife.
"Wait, Dixie was pregnant? Since when?" Candy asked.
"That's what I asked Diddy." DK told her, before asking Diddy, "Why wasn't I told, little buddy?"
"Neither of us knew that Dixie was pregnant, DK! She never had any of the symptoms, and if she didn't know, how could I know?" Diddy asked.
"Good point." DK said. He turned to Candy and said, "Dixie didn't even know she was pregnant."
"That's crazy, but it's also interesting. Still, I would've been scared out of my mind if I found out that I was pregnant without knowing it." Candy said.
"I'm sure Dixie felt scared when she found out. To imagine going 9 long months without knowing you're having a baby until it's ready to come out, and you weren't even prepared for it." DK said.
"She was scared, DK. I was scared, too. But now all our fear has been forgotten. We're parents now, and we've got a child of our own to care for." Diddy said.
"Okay. Well, I'm happy for you both, and I know that Candy's glad for you, too." DK said.
"Give her our thanks." Diddy replied.
"I will. So, tell me about the baby; is it a boy or a girl? I want to know." DK asked.
"Oh, that's right. The baby has got to be one or the other. I wonder what they had?" Candy said.
"It's a beautiful little girl, DK. We named her Daisy, Daisy Kong. She's your great-niece." Diddy said.
"They had a daughter, and they named her Daisy Kong. We've got a great-niece, and Diddy says that she's beautiful." DK told Candy.
"That's so wonderful, and Daisy is a pretty name for a pretty baby." Candy smiled.
"Candy says that Daisy is a pretty name, and I agree with her." DK told Diddy.
"Thanks. I'll let you get back to sleep now. Sorry for waking you both up in the middle of the night, but I couldn't wait until the morning to tell you about Daisy. I had to tell someone, or else I was going to explode!" Diddy said.
"I know, Diddy, and I can't say that I blame you. I think I would've done the same if Candy and I were in your situation." DK said.
The two finished their phone conversation, and then Diddy and Dixie decided to get some much-needed sleep. Dixie allowed Diddy to get in next to her. They went to sleep with Daisy still asleep in her mother's arms.
So Daisy has been born, and DK and Candy are the first ones besides the proud parents to hear the news! But we're not through yet! There may be one more chapter to go before this story is done!
