Good afternoon everyone. This is my first HTTYD fanfic and it is my favorite story series by far. This is going to be a quick short story for practicing my writing and finally putting the ideas in my head on paper. Please let me know if you have any comments on the story or critique as I just want to gain some enjoyment and become a better write myself. Without further ado enjoy the story!
Disclaimer: Obviously I do not own the HTTYD franchise or book series. And character creation goes to the wonderful story authors of HTTYD.
"Stay with me, buddy. We're good. Just a little bit longer." Hiccup said with the Red Death close on their tails. Toothless' prosthetic fin was smoking and burning. The ground was approaching closer and closer as they fell through the smoke and clouds.
Berk is changing. This is either the end of Berk as we know it, or the beginning of a new era for Berk. My father is proud of me. Hiccup quickly looked back and stared at the many eyed beast. This, thing, has caused the troubles and war with dragons for 300 years. Toothless and I can put a stop to this. My friends supported me. Even Snotlout. But mostly Astrid. Hiccups severed and narrowly missed some flying debris. But hopefully after this. I can be worthy of my father's pride.
Hiccup heard the Red Death suck in a breath to prepare a fire attack. He knew this was like a zippleback. Toothless has one shot left, we have to make this count.
"Hold Toothless. . ." He closed his eyes and said a silent prayer to Odin. "NOW!" Toothless flipped and fired a shot into the maw of the Red Death setting it ablaze. The sheer speed of this free fall made it difficult for them to level out. They barely did before Toothless opened his wings and they were dragged backwards barely dodging the falling behemoth.
It crashed into the group in a massive explosion sending a shockwave through Hiccup's spine. Toothless flew higher, slaloming past the Red Death's spines and narrowly escaping the increasing inferno. Hiccup saw the club tail of the monster falling towards them and he twisted the pedal to change direction, only to watch the prosthetic fly off of Toothless. Hiccup looked back at the falling tail. He knew there was no out.
"No, No!" He screamed before the world went black.
Hiccup shot out of the bed sitting up screaming, "No!"
"Woah! Easy, easy. You need to get some rest and not move so much." A femine voice said.
Hiccup blinked rapidly trying to regain his vision. He could barely make out the silhouette of the person standing before him. He looked around. It didn't seem like he was at his house, it looked similar to Gothi's hut. Was he hurt? Is Toothless okay? Wait, Toothless!
"Toothless! Is he okay?" Hiccup yelled, his voice still raspy, grabbing onto the shoulders of the woman in front of him. She merely chuckled at his antics.
"Yea, Toothless is fine. You are the one we are worrying about." The woman said, trying to comfort him and force him to lay down.
His last memories were slowly coming back to him. The Red Death, the fight on the nest, everything.
"And . . ." He swallowed trying to wet his sore throat. "The dragon?"
"Which dragon? There are many dragons on Berk." She said pushing Hiccup back down as he tried to stand again.
"The Red Death, the nest." Hiccup stated, hoping for the best.
"Uh . . . I don't remember that well but you and Toothless killed the Red Death." The woman said, sounding slightly confused.
Eventually Hiccup's vision cleared and he saw a woman standing in front of him. She looked to be maybe mid 30's with brown hair and an average build. Hiccup couldn't shake the feeling that he knew her somewhere but he didn't know from where. He looked around and found that he was in Gothi's hut, or what was once Gothi's hut and was vastly improved. Speaking of, where was the silent Gothi?
"You know, you gave Zephyr quite the scare. She's worried sick." The lady said, chuckling trying to lighten the mood. "You're always the hero Hiccup Haddock."
Hiccup raised a brow. "I don't mean to be rude but what is your name, I feel like I've met you before."
Her smile fell slightly. "Dalia. Dalia Larson? Doesn't it ring any bells? You were at my wedding."
Dalia Larson? I didn't know Mrs. Larson had a sister. This is all too weird, and my heart hurts! That dragon's tail really did a number on me. I need to find Toothless. I know she said he's alright, but still.
"Ah, right." He lied. "And you also mentioned Zephyr, I don't know anyone by that name. It's pretty though."
At this the woman's smile dropped completely. Her eyes were wide and her mouth began to form a small "o".
"You have no recollection of Zephyr?" Dalia asked. Hiccup shook his head, which only made it hurt more. Dalia abruptly stood up and stared at Hiccup like he was a ghost. "Enlighten me Hiccup. What is the last thing you remember after all you did hit your head."
That explains the headache. "I remember fighting the Red Death at Helheim's gate and up until I ran into the dragon's tail since the fin burnt off." Dalia squeaked and started pacing around the room. Apparently that was not the right answer.
"Nothing else since then?" She asked urgently. Again he shook his head. She sighed, "This is bad. She's gonna kill me."
"Who's gonna kill you?" Hiccup asked, now both confused and worried.
She opened her mouth to answer only for the door to the hut to open and another man walked in. He also looked to be mid 30's but he was extremely familiar. He was rather skinny and had dark black hair and green eyes.
"Dalia, goddess, how's sleeping beauty?" The man walked over to Dalia and gave her a quick kiss before laying eyes on Hiccup. "Hiccup! You're awake!"
Before he could make a move Dalia grabbed his arm and held him back. "Gustav, he lost his memories."
Gustav! It can't be. Gustav is a small twelve year old boy. This man is at least twice my age! But there is only one Gustav Larson, and he is standing right in front of me looking worried.
"Seriously," He asked and Dalia nodded in return, "what do we do?"
Dalia rubbed her face trying to think, "From the books Gothi left, we should let him find his own path, as the healing of the mind starts with one's own path as long as they have support from family and friends." Gustav just gave her a blank look. "We don't tell him anything and he figures it out himself. That can jog his memory."
Gustav nodded in agreement and Hiccup just stared at them more confused than ever. "I think I need to at least tell As-"
He was cut off by the hut door opening up again. This time Astrid's mother walked in. She had lovely blonde hair tied back in a ponytail, with a turquoise shirt made of dragon scale and a large fur coat held to her shoulders by metal skulls. She smiled at Hiccup.
"Glad to see you are awake honey, you gave us quite the scare." She smiled and began approaching his bed before sitting by his side and gently rubbing his arm making him pull slightly away uncomfortably and stiffen.
"Sorry to scare you Mrs. Hofferson." Hiccup said, smiling trying not to show how scared and confused he really was.
She froze, "Mrs. Hofferson?" She muttered glaring at him. Looking at his empty and confused gaze.
The blond then turned to the healer and her husband, "What the Hel happened to Hiccup?"
