(A/N: Okay, this should be the final chapter of the story! I hope you enjoy reading it!)
The next day, after breakfast, Dixie informed her family about the birth of Daisy Kong. When she finished telling them the news, the doctor came into the room to check up on the mother and baby. Then he left. A few minutes later, he came back in to let the new mother know that she and Daisy were just fine, so they could go home now.
"Don't worry, Dixie. I'm not even going to risk using my jet-pack to get us home. That's not going to be very safe for you, or Daisy. I'm going to give Funky a call and see if he can come and pick us up." Diddy said as he called Funky.
"I understand, Diddy. Funky's our best bet to getting home safely. Especially since you don't want to risk flying yourself and two other people home. After all, one of your passengers was just born." Dixie said with a smile.
By then, Funky picked up the phone, and Diddy let him know what was going on. Funky said that DK had already announced the news, and while he was greatly surprised that Dixie had a baby, he was more than happy to help them get home. He was also glad that Dixie and the baby were both doing fine.
"So you'll come and pick us up?" Diddy asked.
"Sure thing, dude! I'm on my way. And congratulations!" Funky said.
"Thanks! See you soon!" Diddy said.
"Guess I'd better get ready to go." Dixie said, handing Daisy to Diddy while she changed back into her pajamas. She sighed and said, "As soon as we get home, I'm taking a shower and throwing these in the wash."
"Sounds like a plan." Diddy said.
Later, Diddy and Dixie were outside the hospital, waiting for Funky. Diddy was standing next to Dixie, who was sitting in a wheelchair, holding Daisy, who was wrapped in a new, soft pink blanket that I gave them before they left the hospital room.
Before long, they heard the sound of Funky's plane coming in for a landing.
"He's here." Diddy said.
"Well, Daisy, get ready to meet Funky Kong. He's a good friend of ours." Dixie said to her child as she stood up from the wheelchair. A nurse saw this and took the wheelchair back into the hospital.
A minute later, Funky's plane landed, and Dixie handed Daisy to Funky to hold while Diddy helped her get in the plane.
"So this is the little dudette! She looks just like her mother." Funky said as he looked at Daisy.
"That's the best part about her." Diddy said.
"But she has your eyes, Diddy. I'm glad she inherited something of yours." Dixie said as she watched her husband get in the plane himself.
"She looks like she's going to be a very cool dudette as she grows up!" said Funky as he handed the child back to Dixie.
"Thanks for doing this, Funky. It means a lot to us." Dixie said as she held Daisy securely.
"No need to thank me, dudette. I'm more than happy to help." Funky said as he flew the plane back to Kongo Bongo Island.
When Diddy and Dixie returned to their treehouse home, Dixie handed Daisy to Diddy and went straight to the bathroom to take a much-needed shower.
Meanwhile, Diddy brought his daughter into the bedroom, set her on the bed, and looked after her. He also marked the previous date on the calendar as their daughter's birthday. That would be a night he and Dixie wouldn't soon forget! What started out as the worst night of their lives quickly turned into one of the happiest nights they'd ever remember!
Several minutes later, Dixie emerged from the bathroom, clad in her pink bathrobe with a towel wrapped around her head to dry her blonde hair.
"Feeling better, Dixie?" Diddy asked as his eyes took in his wife's attire.
"Now that I'm clean, I am feeling better. But I'll tell you that last night, I felt so much better when Daisy came out and I got my first look at her. The pain finally stopped and was immediately forgotten." Dixie said as she looked down at Daisy, who was lying in the middle of their bed. After unwrapping the child, picking her up, and counting her fingers and toes, Dixie sat down on the bed, looked at her husband and said, "We've got some major shopping to do, Diddy."
"I know, Dixie, I know. I don't know how we're going to find the time to do it, and how much stuff we're going to need. Daisy's birth was so unexpected, and it's really going to cost us." Diddy replied.
"We'll figure something out. We agreed to raise this child together." Dixie said as she wrapped Daisy back up and began rocking her back and forth in her arms.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door.
"Who could that be?" Diddy asked.
"I don't know, but here, take Daisy with you. I think I'd better get dressed now because I wasn't expecting company, and if we're going to let them in, I can't let anyone see me like this." Dixie said, handing him the baby before he left the bedroom and went to open the door. Then Dixie closed their bedroom door and started getting ready. She quickly removed the towel from her hair, brushed it out, and put it into its trademark ponytail. Then she threw off her bathrobe and changed into her normal attire for the day.
While Dixie got ready, Diddy opened the door to see who could be there. Much to Diddy's great surprise, the other Kongs (except Bluster) had shown up, and they were all bearing gifts for the new baby.
"Surprise!" everyone said. They didn't say it loudly because they didn't want to startle Daisy and make her start crying, in case she turned out to be a crier who howled ferociously every hour of the day and night to no end.
"What brings you here?" Diddy asked, very surprised.
"I spread the word about little Daisy Kong's birth before Funky went out to get you." DK said.
"But we got the news about her before DK made the announcement." Chunky spoke up, confirming that he, Kiddy, and Tiny had heard it from Dixie first.
"When you called, I had already gotten word about the little dudette and got her a present, but I left it at my place when I went to pick you up. I decided to give it to you later, and it's later now." Funky said.
"Can we come in?" asked DK IV, better known as 'Jr.' to everyone else. (A/N: In case you don't know who he is, he was born at the end of "An Even Happier Ending", and he is one of my "Donkey Kong" OCs. He's grown up quite a bit since the end of the aforementioned fanfic.)
"Sure." Diddy said.
Everyone entered the house and set the stuff down. By that time, Dixie had come out of her and Diddy's room and saw what had happened.
"What's all this?" Dixie asked, looking surprised.
"Stuff that we needed to get for Daisy." Diddy said.
"Aww, you guys didn't have to do that." Dixie replied, but she was smiling.
"We wanted to." Candy said.
"I know I wanted to. That baby is my niece!" Tiny said excitedly, but quietly, so as not to startle Daisy.
Everyone got to see the baby (and hold her, if they wished), and as much as they wanted to spend the entire day just looking at her and saying how cute she was, they knew that Diddy and Dixie were going to need help preparing a room for the new baby, and it had to get done before tonight.
Thankfully, Diddy and Dixie had a spare room in their house, and with help from the others, they were able to turn it into a nursery for the baby. But Kiddy and Jr. did not help out with turning the spare room into a nursery. They just took Daisy to her parents' room and watched over her, making sure she was alright, and so one of them could fetch Diddy and Dixie in case Daisy started to cry.
Later that afternoon, all the Kongs had gone home, but they promised to be back tomorrow to help Diddy and Dixie finish working on the nursery, so now Diddy, Dixie, and Daisy were able to really relax after a busy day. Diddy had started that process by e-mailing his friends from his racing days to let them know about Daisy.
"Given that we haven't seen them since last year's reunion, it might be wise to let them know what happened so we don't catch them by surprise at the reunion this year." Dixie had said, looking over Diddy's shoulder at the computer screen.
"That's why I'm letting them know now." Diddy said as he and Dixie looked over the e-mail together. Diddy had pretty much explained what had happened, and how he and Dixie now had a child.
"Perhaps you should add some photos to the e-mail. That might spare you the trouble of getting replies that ask for evidence." Dixie suggested.
"Okay, then. It does sound like a plan." said Diddy. He sent the pictures from his phone to the computer, and he added some of the photos to the e-mail he was planning to send.
"How's that?" Diddy asked.
"Perfect. Now you can send it." Dixie said.
Diddy clicked 'Send', and the e-mail was sent to all his and Dixie's racing friends.
Later that night, after they had dinner, Diddy took a shower. When he finished drying off and got ready for bed, Diddy walked into the bedroom, where Dixie was sitting up in bed, feeding Daisy.
Dixie had been pretty intent on the task at hand, so she was surprised when she heard someone enter the room. When she looked up saw her husband approaching, she relaxed and smiled at him.
"Hi, Diddy. What's up?" Dixie asked.
"I took my shower, and now that I feel fresh and new, I think I'm ready to spend the rest of the evening with my 2 favorite girls," Diddy said as he sat down next to his wife.
"And to think: you once said that I was the only girl you'd ever love. But I know what you mean. Now that Daisy's here, you have another girl to love." Dixie said.
"Yeah. I love the both of you more than words can describe." Diddy smiled as he reached over and stroked Daisy's mop of golden hair.
"(sigh) Look at her, Diddy. Our precious little miracle. I still can't believe that she's here. Until last night, we had no idea that she even existed." Dixie said as she finished feeding their child.
"I know. And I still can't get over the fact that we're parents now." Diddy said. Then he added, "But truth be told, I'm loving it so far."
"Me too." Dixie said as she stood up and made her way to the nursery, to place Daisy in her crib for the night. Diddy got up and followed his wife to the nursery, turning on the light when they got there.
The nursery itself was painted pink, and the carpet was a cream color. The crib was white with pink bedding, and there were boxes of other baby things in the room. There was furniture that still needed to be put together, clothes to put away, and toys that needed to be put in a toy chest.
"Good night, Daisy. I love you." Dixie said.
"Daddy loves you, too, Daisy." Diddy said.
Both parents gave their daughter a kiss before placing her in the crib, and Daisy Kong fell asleep almost immediately. Then Diddy and Dixie went back to their room.
"You want to watch T.V.?" Diddy asked.
"No. We just got Daisy to sleep. We need to keep things quiet so we'll hear her in case she wakes up, needing something." Dixie said.
"Okay. Do you want to cuddle?" Diddy suggested.
"I'm game." said Dixie.
So Diddy and Dixie cuddled with each other until they fell asleep.
The End
Okay, that's the story. I know it was short, but I hope you all enjoyed it anyway!
