Disclaimer: I do not own any part of either of these fantastic series. I am only a fan doing what we love to do, and appreciating these characters in the ways we do best.

I hope you all enjoy my first jump in to the fanfiction world of JELSA.

Ethereal

Prologue Part 1

"Ethereal."

That was Jack's first thought as he spotted the snow laden castle on the mountainside. He'd not been to this part of the world in the last 10 years, it being mostly cold and snow flew closer to the first tower and peaked through the lattice of a frost covered window. On the hard, wooden floor sat a young girl who looked to be in serious need of some fun.

"Well then, that's my cue!"

The window creaked slightly as he pushed it open.

"Conceal, don't feel. Conceal, don't feel."

The girl whispered to herself over and over, hugging her knees tighter to her chest.

Jack slipped through the open window and crept onto the bench. Leaning his staff against the wall he slowly lowered himself onto the floor next to her, the girl in a trance, oblivious to his presence.

He cleared his throat.

The girl's head popped up, turning tear streaked cheeks toward the noise. Spotting Jack so close, she let out a squeak and toppled sideways onto the floor. Jack held his hands up sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you! I didn't realize you'd be able to see me."

"Not see you? What, wh- who are you?" She looked at him in confusion, her voice wobbled.

"I am the Guardian of Fun, the name is Jack Frost." He took her hand gently in his smiling kindly, and winked. "But you can call me Jack."

"I-I'm Elsa, Princess Elsa." She said quietly." She narrowed her eyes and looked around the room for any sign of a threat.

"You know Santa Claus? The Easter Bunny? We're all part of the same crew. We are the Guardians!" Jack released her hand and said with a flourish.

Elsa glanced his way suspiciously. "How do I know you're telling the truth?"

"Ah! Good question. Since you can see me, let me give you this." Jack reached into his hoodie pocket, and pulled out a book with a worn leather cover, the word 'Fairy Tales' emblazoned in gold on the spine. Elsa took the book out of his hands, glancing down the chapter list until she found a tale labeled, "Rise of the Guardians". She flipped to the story and began to skim through it, sneaking a peak back up at Jack's face.

"It says here that Jack Frost is a winter spirit. That he has powers over ice and snow." She looked at him expectantly.

Jack smirked. "You know, you're pretty smart for a 13 year old."

Elsa glared, "I'm SIXTEEN".

"Sorry, sorry, uh sixteen year old." Jack held up his hands and backed away slightly. "So, it's ice and snow you want? Let me show you what I can do!"

Jack leapt into the air and grabbed his staff. Raising an open hand to the air he conjured a swirl of snowflakes into his palm and shaped them into a snowball. He blew on the snowball, making it glow blue with the power of fun.

"Wanna play, princess?"

Her eyes widened. "You really ARE Jac-"

SPLAT.

The snowball smacked her right in the face, ice sliding down the front of her dress. Jack guffawed at her surprise. " Told you so," He grinned.

"Two can play at this game." She thought.

Elsa looked down at her gloves, the strength of Jack's 'fun' magic boosting her confidence. Jack glanced at her curiously as she slowly slid one off of her left whipped her arm back behind her, winding up, a snowball forming in the palm of her own hand.

Ker-SPLAT.

Jack's neck cricked back with the force of her throw, his eyes blinking away the snow encrusting his eyelids.

"What was THAT?" He thought.

Jack looked at her in disbelief. "You can.. you have.. ICE powers too?"

Coming to her senses Elsa blushed, quickly shoving the discarded glove back onto her hand and up her arm.

"I- I- Please forget what you saw!" Elsa exclaimed, eyes darting to her closed bedroom door.

Jack paused at her expression, and brought his hand up to cradle his chin.

"Odd, usually the fun lasts much longer than that. Maybe because you've aged out…?" He trailed off.

"No matter." He shook his head and looked back at her troubled expression. "So, what's eating you princess? Why the long face?"

She looked backed to Jack, eyes sad. "My powers, I just..all I do is hurt people. I can't be trusted. Not any more." Fresh tears welled up again and she lowered her eyes to the floor, determined not to let them fall.

"I'm sorry, I wish I could tell you I have the power to help but, maybe I could distract you? For just a night?" He stepped closer to her, approaching cautiously.

Elsa's face warmed. "Isn't that a bit forward, I mean I barely know you."

Jack stuttered, blushing "Tha-that's not what I meant!" He slapped a hand over his face. " What I mean to say is, will you let me take you out, for a night of fun?" He pointed out the window towards the north mountain. "Maybe go for a little fly around the mountain? Look at the stars?"

"I don't know, I mean I haven't been out in, well, I can't quite remember. I don't even know if that's allowed?" She fretted, her teeth worrying at her bottom lip.

Jack raised an eyebrow and grinned knowingly. "Well, your highness, they don't call me the Guardian of Fun just for kicks. I wouldn't be doing my job properly if I just left you here alone in a slump. Let's go for a spin and I'll have you back here before first light."

"I don't think that's such a good ide- EEP!"

Jack scooped her up in his arms and leapt onto the windowsill. "Hang on ice-girl. Get ready for some fun!" With a joyful shout he grabbed his staff and leapt into the sky with Elsa in tow, taking off toward the north mountain.
