Long ago

Maryse and Robert had slept together many times, they had spawned three eggs though not at the same time but very close in laying. "Aren't they darling she coo'd at Robert. His response was 'we'll see'. There was always a worry they could die but the males had a harder time than the females. When the first born male egg arrived, Robert's reaction was to kill it, there was a strong aura and Robert wouldn't have it so Maryse hid him. Maryse knew it was a male dragon and an incredibly strong one. She encased the egg with her magic and the warmth of a cave to shield him. He would live eventually but only when the right being came along. She told her lover that the egg was taken and Robert didn't care, the threat was gone and that was good enough.

Robert was far kinder with the other two eggs. He didn't feel threatened and in the midst of trying to hatch them, the couple fell apart. They stayed together to raise them to an age where they could be on their own. Maryse deciding on the magical arts in the human world while keeping a soft magic over her son. Robert found a new home and while the other hatchlings would visit, they knew something odd happened between the dragon parents. After a long time, they stopped asking.

In the present time.

Magnus felt the aura of Alec through the egg. He felt it in his being that this dragon egg was more important than anything in his life. He entered the loft with his prize, he had purchased a low heat cat bed, he added extra towels to surround it and placed the egg in the bed to keep it warm.

Magnus whispered to the egg, letting it know it was safe. He would protect it as best he could. The egg was silent but warm, that was all Magnus needed to know for the time being. Maryse's words came back to him. She had took a serious tone with him in a reading, 'love him, he needs you and you may not know it yet, you need him.' He wasn't sure if he believed her but he had gone to the shop a few more times after bringing the egg home. Each time, she would give him a reading whether he wanted it or not. She gave him a book on dragons so that he could be knowledgeable when Alec hatched.

A few days or more later

Maryse and Magnus finally exchanged numbers and he invited her over for dinner to ease her mind on Alec and that he had not emerged from his egg as of yet.

"Still having dreams?" Maryse needed to know if her offspring was still vibrant and alive.

"Yes, but not as intense most times, seems more quiet but present." Magnus poured more wine for them, they were half way through a pasta dinner, her company was enjoyable. He wondered if he did the right thing on too many occasions.

"How are you feeling about the magic?" Maryse knew but it took time and she knew it.

"I want to meet him," Magnus was felt enough of a friendship with the dragon woman to say, "I'm glad I met you."

Maryse hummed with a knowing presence, she wasn't sure what was keeping Alec from emerging. Both Magnus and Maryse were comfortable using magic around each other. She suggested it would be good for them and Alec in the future. She taught him about dragons and for her it felt good to talk to someone about her species. "The warming station is good for him." She felt bad that her son who was now free from the cave wasn't trying yet to hatch.

"He'll hatch, I know it. He's too intense at times in my dreams and I know it is his determination." Magnus looked hopeful, "he wants to be here."

"Maybe its me, he's waiting for me to not interfere." She made a decision then, she put her son in that situation and he was wary, then it would be up to Magnus to use his magic and help her son.

"I don't know but he is calm with you here." He wanted the dragon's mother to not feel bad. He sort of chided himself, how did his life get so crazy and to have dragons in it.

Days later

Magnus had his friend Catarina check on the egg and she felt it was alright based on her healing magic. "Maryse would know if there was something wrong, its her offspring." It was the only thing she could say to help Magnus.

Magnus sighed, "yeah but why is it taking so long."

Catarina didn't know, this was an entirely new situation for her, "what did his mom say?"

"Only that he would hatch when ready." Magnus couldn't help himself, he checked the bed another time. He whispered 'please' and then made his way to the couch to sit by Cat with a drink.

"Anything we should know when he finally leaves the egg?" Cat wanted to be prepared.

"Only that he'll be young for a short time and that we'll need to find a place for him to grow quickly." Magnus sipped his martini, "his mother said he'll grow to his full size and his magic will cause that to happen." He snorted, "she said his magic would explode but wouldn't hurt him and that once that occurred, he'd be the age he's suppose to be and with the knowledge he would need."

Catarina raised a brow, "this is some weird stuff Magnus."

"I know." Magnus sighed and looked to his make-shift incubation bed. Alec had to free himself and do it soon. He worried the being would die and there would be nothing he could do about it. He kept that to himself.
