Chapter 2
Megatropolis City's First Hero, Cure Power
Several hours after Cure Power defeated the villain at Market Street, it was closed and put under investigation by the police. However, a different force had taken over the investigations.
Several guards wearing big white armor that looked very advanced and technical. All of them were wearing a helmet with a half-lidded yellow goggle lens. There were also small robots shaped of a globe that was floating in midair and scanning the area.
However, the present people weren't just guards. There were also people wearing normal clothes, and these people were playing the role of an investigator.
"I got a reading here," one of the investigators stated. "The level of Precure energy is above 80 percent after some time passed."
"Positive here, too. I also detect some level of minus energy, but it seems like most of it was dissipated by the opposite," said another.
That was when a single limousine arrived at the scene. The driver opened the passenger's chair, and one woman came out. She wore a dark red suit with a black business skirt, a pair of black high heels, sharp black sunglasses, and a black business shirt. Her hair was mushroom-shaped, and her ears were pierced with pearls.
"Vice President Shoko!" The guards immediately saluted to her as she walked past them, like a soldier when a general was present.
"What's the finding here?" She asked in a serious tone, a tone that a lot of businesspeople sounds like, though with little or no feeling behind it.
"Well, maim. We found a sufficient amount of Precure energy around the area," one of the researchers answered.
"Is that true? Let me see." One of the researchers quickly handed her the tablet.
She looked it over and slightly nodded to it. "I see. So, which means that she must be present here in this city."
She turned around, returning to her limo. "Continue with the investigation and also tighten the security around here, and let the local stations know to be on an alert. It seems like we have a little pest among us in our fair city."
A day later….
It was Sunday morning. The pink alarm clock shaped of a heart went off as one hand tried to reach it and stopped the alarm.
Naomi got up from her bed and gave out a big yawn.
She noticed that the sun was out. It was going to a lovely day like yesterday….. yesterday.
She got up and opened a drawer, revealing the strange bracelet she received from that mysterious man she met yesterday. She didn't know who that man was, but she knew one thing; with this bracelet, she can transform into Pretty Cure, some kind of superhero.
She felt happy, excited, but also curious, too. She wondered if she would meet the man again today. She did try to find him again yesterday, but couldn't find him. He disappeared after he went to find help for that robber who saved his life.
"Naomi!" She jumped and quickly closed the drawer, and turned around to see her mother.
"Um, yes, Mom?!" She asked hesitantly.
The mother looked confused at her daughter's strange reaction, but then said, "Breakfast is ready. Get change and eat up or it will get cold."
"OK!" Naomi quickly changed her clothes and washed her face.
After half an hour, Naomi enjoyed her first breakfast in her new home.
"Today, I'll be visiting your school to get some paperwork done, get your school uniform, and do some other errands. I put some money on the table if you get hungry for lunch," her mother stated as she just finished washing dishes.
"OK, Mom," Naomi nodded.
"Well, I'll be going now. Oh and if you ever go outside, just be careful, alright. That place you went there, the Market Street, it is still closed by the police," Mom warned.
"Don't worry, Mom. I will be fine," Naomi assured.
Her mom grinned before she exited out the door.
Naomi sighed and wondered what to do today until her mom arrived back. She could watch TV or explored more around her neighborhood, but she already did that yesterday. One idea came to her mind that she wanted to do since she moved here from America.
"Well, since I have all to myself, I think I will work on my comics!" Naomi was heading back to her room to work on that until she heard an automated voice message.
"Mail had arrived! Mail had arrived!" A special thing about all apartments and houses in Megatropolis was that every home has an automated voice system that tells homeowners or someone who lives in the home that their mail had arrived.
"A mail? I wonder what it is," Naomi wondered as she went over to the door.
She found a single white envelope with nothing written on it. It didn't say where it came from.
Naomi curiously opened the envelope slowly, and then took out a letter. She read it.
"Dear Young Lady, it is me. The man from yesterday. Please come to this location now with the bracelet I gave you. There is something I would like to discuss with you on the matter of yesterday's case."
"Holy Crap!" She thought. "I am going to meet that man again! I better get going!"
She prepared herself with her pocket purse. She put the bracelet inside her purse and locked it before she headed outside.
When she opened the door, she was stopped by two tall men.
She shrieked at the sudden two men outside her apartment door.
"Sorry to scare you, Young Miss," said one of the men. They were wearing a white uniform that looked similar to a police officer uniform, except it had the SuperTech Co's logo and matching color cap. The only difference between them was the left one had brown hair, fair skin, and shorter in height than the man on the right, who was taller and had a body of a bodybuilder, dyed blond hair, tan skin, and five o'clock shadow.
"Um, hello, officers," Naomi greeted sheepishly.
"Your name is Naomi Lee, correct?" The second man asked in a serious tone
"Yes," she replied in a scared tone.
"Sorry to surprise you at first, and don't feel scared with us," the first man said in a friendly tone. "We are SuperTech's Public Security Forces, and we're just here to ask you some questions."
"Questions? Wait…SuperTech? Do you mean the company that owns that huge tower in the middle of the city? That SuperTech?" Naomi wondered.
"That's right. You see, our company also has its own public security force. You can say we are like the police of this city," the first man explained with a grin.
Naomi nodded, though feeling a bit unsettling. "I see…"
"So, about yesterday, what were you doing at the Market Street?" he asked.
"Well, I was just exploring around the neighborhood," Naomi explained.
"I see. Were you there when the incident happened?" The second man asked sternly."
"Well, actually there was this robbery and I chased after the robber," Naomi explained.
"You chased after a robber?" The first man asked with his eyes widened. "Weren't you scared?"
"Me, scared? Oh no. I just never will let some bad guys get away with things, so I chased after him!" Naomi stated as she posed heroically and proudly.
The two men glanced at each other. The first man chuckled, "Wow, you are one, brave girl!"
"However, chasing after a criminal is dangerous! You should always report a crime to the authority whenever it happens at all times," the second man scolded.
"Hee, hee! Yeah, sorry about that. I am, um, sort of new around here," Naomi said, looking a bit blushed as she scratched behind her head.
That was when the first officer's pocket started beeping. "Oh! Excuse me for a second."
He walked a bit away from the door and talked on his cell phone. "… I see. Very well then."
He turned back around and said, "The station is asking us to return."
"Tch! I see. Alright then," the second officer agreed, though looked a bit disappointed. "Thank you for your corporation, Young Miss."
"Oh no! Thank you for your time!" Naomi greeted back nervously with a bow. "Um, see you around!"
Naomi finally walked out of the apartment and went to the elevator as the two officers watched her go away.
As the two officers walked in the opposite direction, the second officer then said, "That girl, she's suspicious."
"You always say that Kamitani. Whenever you ask questions, people look at you and feel scared! Besides, she was probably just nervous, especially confronting a big man, like you."
"Hmf! Whatever. Let's just get going, Koji," Kamitani shrugged.
- Pretty Cure –
Naomi walked into an alleyway just between an old, closed down shop and convenience store.
"Well, this is the place." She looked around, but all she could see were trash cans and nothing else.
"Over here. And quietly!" She looked ahead and noticed the strange man, but quickly moved into the corner.
Naomi walked over and didn't say anything back. When she turned around the corner, she noticed an opened manhole with the mysterious man in the raincoat standing by.
"Hello Mr. Bystander, we meet again!" Naomi greeted.
"Shh!" He silenced her as Naomi covered her mouth. "Go down here."
She looked down at the manhole, noticing a metal ladder. She carefully climbed down the manhole until she reached the bottom. The mysterious man followed and closed the lid.
"Pee-you! Are we in the sewer now?" She pinched her nose as she was led by the man down the tunnel. "What are you, sir? Some kind of mutant ninja animal in disguise?"
"No, and we are here." The man stopped at what appeared to be a dead-end. He placed his right palm on the sidewall when it shined over it, causing the "dead-end" to reveal a hidden door.
"Woah!" Naomi gasped.
"Come inside." The man showed her.
The light was too bright, so she covered it, but once she got her focus back, she was surprised to see it. Behind the opened, hidden door was a secret laboratory of some kind.
There were several monitors at a long desk with two keyboards and a mouse. There was only one table, five traditional Japanese cushion chairs, and a couch with a blanket.
"Where are we? What is this place?" Naomi asked, looking excited.
"I expected you to look disgusted, but you seemed to look more surprised than disgusted," the man stated. "Why?"
"Disgusted? This place looks awesome! It's literally a secret hideout under a sewer! I mean, the sewer smells, but this hideout looks awesome! Are you sure you're not a mutant ninja animal?" Naomi replied.
The man smirked. "Allow me to introduce myself."
The man took off his raincoat, sunglasses, and hat. He revealed his short black hair with one crescent-shaped bang at the front, dark purple eyes, and fair white skin. He wore a black suit, pair of black pants, and dark brown shoes.
"The name is Doctor," he introduced.
"Doctor?" Naomi repeated.
"I cannot give you my real name due to my personal reason," he said.
"Hmmm…" Naomi looked at him suspiciously. "Well, OK, Doctor. My name is Naomi Lee. I'm guessing it has something to do with what happened yesterday."
"You catch on," he said. "Allow me to explain."
Naomi sat on one of the cushions while the Doctor prepared some green teas.
"What you used yesterday to defeat that monster or whatever you like to call it is called Cure Bracelet, one of the Pretty Cure Changers."
"Cure Bracelet?" Naomi said as she looked at the bracelet.
"With it, the wielder can use it to transform into a warrior of unlimited power, called 'Pretty Cure'. The devices are powered by Precure Energy."
"Precure Energy? What's that?" She asked.
"It is an energy produced by lifeforms, made out of pure positive energy. Any living things have this, but what's most interesting is that only human beings can produce abundant Precure Energy through just being purely positive. Most commonly through positive emotions, like happiness, you, and hope."
"I see. So this Cure Bracelet runs on the Precure Energy?" She quizzed.
"That's right," Doctor replied. "However, Cure Bracelet and other two Pretty Cure Changers can only be used by the right kind of person to control it."
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"Yesterday at the scene, when you were trying to save that robber's life, Cure Bracelet reacted to your strong feeling of justice. That feeling of trying to save another's life is what caused the Cure Bracelet to react with the amount of Precure Energy you produced. It chose you to be its wielder in a sense," Doctor explained. "Even though it was created by humanity, it cannot be used so easily by a normal person, but for you… you are special."
Naomi couldn't believe it but felt a bit honored. She always loves to help others, and never let the wrongdoers get away with things. She had been that kind of person ever since she was a little girl.
"So that is why I ask you this…. Could you take care of the bracelet and continued to be Cure Power to save lives whenever other attacks happen?"
What the Doctor said was a big responsibility. He was asking her to become a superhero. However, she already knew the answer deep in her heart.
"Why, of course, I accept!" Doctor gasped a bit in surprise. "I mean, this is just so awesome! Me, becoming Pretty Cure and everything! But I know that this is a huge responsibility, so I will do my best! Besides… I don't anyone to get hurt and no evildoers will get away with it."
Doctor smirked. "You are right. And thank you."
"Speaking of which, just exactly who or what was it yesterday that I fought? A supervillain?" She questioned.
"Yes, in a sense. You see, on the opposite side of Precure Energy, there is another energy. I called it the minus energy. This is the negative energy produced from negative emotions, such as sadness, anger, envy, and others alike. According to my long research on these energies, when a human being consumed with too much minus energy, they morphed into a monster."
"A person turning into a monster by negative energy. So… Is that mean that the monster I fought yesterday was a person?" Naomi asked worriedly.
"Yes, that's correct," Doctor nodded. "However, it is not permanent, according to the data that I obtained from your yesterday's fight. With enough Precure Energy, it can counteract the minus energy and turned the affected person back to normal."
"So, in other words, I have to fight the person to make him or her return to their senses," Naomi said, looking saddened.
"What's the matter?" Doctor asked, noticing Naomi looking sad.
"Oh! Well, it is just that I realize that this means that I will also be hurting them," Naomi admitted.
"You're hitting them won't hurt them. The minus energy is the one that's causing them to feel hurt, or more specifically, their negative emotion is what causes them to feel the minus energy and that's what makes them feel hurt. Pretty Cure Changers are built to restore the affected person with too much concentration of minus energy. By defeating them and getting rid of their minus energy, like you did yesterday, you save them, their lives. Just like you did for that robber."
"…Right," she agreed, turning back to her positive self.
Suddenly, something started beeping. The Doctor looked over to his monitor, showing something that happened in the city.
"What's going on?!" She exclaimed.
"There is a trouble going on," Doctor said as he typed something to show footage. "There is a hostage crisis going on at an old warehouse at the harbor."
"Say what?" She gasped.
"It looks like it's a perfect first job for you," Doctor stated. "Suit up!"
"OK!" She said as she put on the Cure Bracelet.
"It's hero time, Pretty Cure!"
The pink light immersed her into it. Her body was shimmery, spinning around and all of a sudden, a pink and white uniform appeared in place of her clothes. Her blue Jeans was replaced by a short pink skirt. Next, a pair of white gloves and pink high heels with yellow hearts appeared on her hands and feet as she tapped against the ground. A pair of silver wrist armor appeared around her wrists. She then put her hands over her chest and a pink bow with a purple button and pink heart in the center appeared. Her ponytail was loose and grew down to her thighs, and it turned pink. Over her forehead, a pink tiara with a red star in the center appeared. The front portion of her hair split into two bangs to make it look like an upside-down V shape. Her eyes opened, revealing them to be pink now.
She punches in the air, did some kicks, and then announced, "The hero of strength who protects and fights for justice and love! I am here, Cure Power!" She posed with her right arm up and gripped her hand to a fist.
"You should be able to reach there quick. Other than your superstrength, you also can fly," Doctor said.
"I can fly? Really?!" Cure Power looked excited as her eyes shined.
"Just go!" Doctor ordered.
Cure Power flew off out of the sewer and flew quickly to the harbor.
- Pretty Cure –
Meanwhile, at the harbor…
"You are surrounded!" One police officer announced with a megaphone. "Let go of the hostage, and we won't hurt you."
"Who do you think you take us as? A fool?!" One of the criminals yelled out from the window.
There was a total of five men in black masks, all holding guns, and they have taken three harbor workers hostage.
That was when a huge white truck came with the SuperTech logo on the side. The truck opened the container, revealing some soldiers in white armor from yesterday coming out,
"Surrender now! If you don't, we will have no choice, but send SuperTech Security Task Force coming in!" The officer warned.
"And if you do, we will shoot the hostages!" They yelled back.
The officer gritted. "Crap! If we move here, the hostages will get killed!"
"We could get it from the back," one of the SuperTech Security Task Force soldiers suggested.
"It's too risky! They can see our movement from every perimeter."
Cure Power arrived at the scene and saw the situation.
"Cure Power, could you hear me?" Cure Power heard the Doctor's voice through a commlink that she received from him and had it put on her ear as it worked like an earphone.
"Yeah, I can hear you loud and clear," Cure Power replied.
"Good! It seems like the police and SuperTech Security Task Force cannot able to move. I would say crash it from the roof and surprise them."
"Wouldn't that put the hostages' lives at risk?" She asked.
"They wouldn't expect some flashy, colorful girl crashing through the roof, would they?" Doctor joked.
"Good point," Cure Power agreed. She flew down and crashed through the roof.
The hostages and the criminals noticed and were shocked.
"What the?!" One of them gasped.
"Leave the hostage and surrender!" Cure Power declared.
"I don't know who the hell are you, but get her!" They started shooting at her.
Cure Power blocked every bullet shot at her. She then quickly flew towards one of the criminals and punched one to the wall.
One member surprised her by jumping on her from behind, but Cure Power quickly grabbed him and threw him over.
"Gah!" He crashed through a box, breaking it into pieces.
"She's too strong!" One of them cried.
"Don't be such a scary-cat! She's just a girl!" One of them yelled.
"Not just any girls!" She responded as she punched and kicked the girl.
Meanwhile, the police officers and the SuperTech Security soldiers were outside, listening to the commotion. One of the criminals was thrown and crashed through the windows and hit over the ground in front of them.
"Woah!" The officer gasped, dodging out of the way.
Cure Power had finished up beating the criminals and released the hostage.
"Thank you, Miss, but who are you?" The leading harbor man asked.
"I am Cure Power, Pretty Cure, your heroic guardian of this city," Cure Power said as she posed epically. "Stay safe, guys!"
She then flew off before the police force came inside the warehouse to check the scene.
- Pretty Cure –
"Good afternoon, folks! We bring you an update on the hostage crises at Warehouse B at the local harbor. Three hostages were fortunately saved but by not the police nor the SuperTech Security Task Force. According to one of the hostages, a harbor man named Wayne Stark said that he and his men were saved by a superhero girl called Pretty Cure and named as Cure Power."
"It was crazy! This pink-haired girl just crashed through the roof, and started beating up the criminals! They didn't even stand a chance! It was amazing!" Wayne Stark explained in front of the camera.
The TV was turned off. It was Vice President Shoko in her office room. She sat on a crescent-shaped desk with her laptop in front of her. Her spacious office had wide-view glass windows, where she could see almost the entire city from above.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and a person came in. It was a petty woman with black hair in bun style and carrying a tablet with her in her hand.
"Miss Shoko, you have a meeting in five minutes," she said.
"Mari, tell the local stations to find out about the Pretty Cure called Cure Power," Miss Shoko stated.
"Yes maim," she said and then closed the door.
She turned around and stood up, looking down on the city from her windows.
"So, the rumor was true. Then she must be here somewhere, hiding in this city like a rat," Miss Shoko said as she grinned maliciously to herself.
