Chapter 3
The Girl with Cold Heart
Monday had arrived. Today was a special day for Naomi because…
"Honey, wake up! The breakfast is ready!" The mother called her.
Naomi woke up, but she was wearing her new school uniform. She was wearing a dark green uniform coat with a white shirt and school's emblem, red bowtie, long white socks, black shoes, and same colored skirt.
Her new school bag was a pink shoulder bag with the school emblem on the top left corner.
"Wow! You look great in that, dear," mother commented.
"Thanks, mom," Naomi said, blushing a bit.
She ate a quick breakfast and grabbed her new school bag. Her new bag and uniform were all gifts from her new school.
"Well, I'm going to my new school," she said.
"Yup and I am ready to go to my new job, too," her mom added as she showed off in her business suit.
They walked together until she arrived at the school gate.
"Well, here we are," the mother stated as they stopped at the front gate with the arch sign that says "Megatropolis Middle Academy". "Good luck, Naomi, and have fun."
"Sure thing mom and thanks!" Naomi waved goodbye to her mother as the latter waved back and walked away.
Naomi turned to the school gate and entered through. Her new middle school was huge three-story high white buildings. The school was more of a big campus, like a college. There were three buildings, each connected by an elevated hallway and each building had rows of glass windows, where she could see some people moving inside. It made the school looked very modern and futuristic in a sense.
'Wow. So this will be my new middle school,' Naomi thought as she awed at the architecture.
"Excuse me." Naomi turned around and jumped a bit.
The voice was a girl of the same age. Her hair was long and straight black hair. Her eyes, though mostly hidden by her hair, were dark sapphire. She wore the same uniform.
"Oops. Sorry," Naomi walked to the side to allow the girl to walk past through.
As the strange girl went away, Naomi realized something. "Doh! I wish I asked her where the classroom I go to!"
A little later, one classroom was very noisy until the teacher came in.
"Good morning, sir!" Everyone stood up and greeted the teacher.
"Good morning, everyone," the teacher stated. "You may all sit down, and I have an important announcement to make."
The students wondered curiously what the announcement was.
"We have a new transfer student joining our class this year. She's from America. Please welcome her with open hands. Miss Naomi Lee." The door opened and Naomi entered the class.
A lot of guys looked interested in her, and some girls did, too. Naomi smiled, though feeling a bit nervous, but then she noticed a familiar face at the back row of the room near the corner.
"Um, the name is Naomi Lee. It's a pleasure to meet you all!" She bowed to the classroom.
Everyone clapped for applause.
"Yes, yes. Now, why don't you get to your seat then? There is an open seat at the back," the teacher said.
Naomi walked over to her very own seat. Next to her near the window was the same girl she met not too long time ago.
Naomi sat down and said to the girl, "Hey. Nice to meet you again. What's your name?"
"….." She didn't say anything back as Naomi felt a bit of cold shoulder, looking a bit confused and surprised at the same time.
"Now then. Let's begin our lesson today," the teacher said.
After the classes, lunchtime began. Naomi was enjoying her time at her new school. Her homeroom teacher was a nice gentleman and very understanding. Unlike the school she went back to Queens, New York, she noticed that it wasn't the students who moved from one classroom to another, but instead, it was the teacher. So far, she met her homeroom teacher who taught Japanese, then a female history teacher who was deeply knowledgeable, a buffed P.E. teacher who also teaches about certain body parts for both guys and girls, and an energetic French teacher. She also learned that in Japan, teachers are referred to as "sensei".
"Where did you come from, Naomi-chan?" Naomi was surrounded by other female classmates. They wanted to know more about her.
"I am from America. I used to live in Queens, New York," Naomi answered. "I moved here with my mom."
"You're from New York City? That's so cool!" One of the girls commented cheerfully.
The girls became extremely interested in her, hearing about what kind of life was in New York City. As much as she loved that she's making friends this way, she couldn't help, but not stop thinking about her classmate, the girl who was sitting next to her.
She didn't know why, but she could feel something… special about her.
"Attention, everyone!" Naomi and her entire class turned to the door. There was an older girl with red hair who appeared at the door with another girl with orange hair.
"Presenting your Class President, Mistress May Kin!" The two girls stepped aside, allowing another third girl to come through, entering the classroom. The third girl was an older girl at the same height as the other two. She had big blond hair with curly bangs. Her eyes were blue and had porcelain-colored skin. Her chest was up, indicating that she is an older student. Maybe from the second year or third year.
Naomi noticed that everyone became silent as if they were in fear by the presence of these three girls.
"Hello, everyone. This is quite a crowd," May stated. "I heard that this class got a new student joined in today, isn't that right, Aki?"
"That is right, May-sama," Aki said, who was the girl with the red hair. "Natsuki."
"Hey! Who's here is the new transfer kid?" Natsuki demanded. She was the girl with the orange hair.
"That would be Lee-san here," one of the girls pointed.
"So you must be the new girl, huh?" May said as she approached over to Naomi's desk.
May looked at Naomi sternly but sneered. "Hmph. You don't look too bad, but I am not here to meddle with you. I have rather an important business with your classmate next to you."
She and her girls approached over to the blue-haired girl's desk.
"Yuki-chan, how are you doing?" May asked kindly, yet forcefully.
"…What do you want?" Yuki asked, looking sternly at her.
"Hey, don't talk to Mistress May like that, you pig!" Natsuki growled.
"You know the rules, Yuki-san. Address Mistress May-sama as 'Mistress May'," Aki demanded.
Naomi stood up from her desk and then said, "Hey, leave her alone!"
The three girls, Yuki, and all of her classmates looked shocked at her response. Naomi glanced around, noticing everyone's facial reaction.
'Ooo-kay. This feels weird,' she thought.
"Who do you think you're talking to?" Natsuki stated, looking displeased.
"Yeah! This is none of your business!" Aki exclaimed.
"Well, I don't like you three bullying my classmate!" Naomi argued.
Suddenly, May just giggled and then turned to a burst of laughter. Everyone was surprised by this, but have no idea why she was laughing.
"I see! Well, it seems like I've overstepped a bit today. I will take my leave for now," May declared as she walked away.
"What?" The girl in red gasped.
"But, Mistress May-sama, what about Yuki here?" The girl in orange asked.
"Leave her be," May stated.
The two girls looked at each other for a second, and just followed her order as they left, too.
Some of the students let go of the breath they were holding.
Naomi walked over to Yuki's desk. "Hey, are you OK, Yuki? Are you not hurt?"
Suddenly, Yuki looked distraught at Naomi and walked away.
"Hey, wait!" Naomi called to her, but she was stopped by her classmate.
"Leave her alone, Lee-san and you are in big trouble now!" The girl warned.
"What do you mean? She was the one who was in trouble! Didn't you see how they treated her?!" Naomi argued.
"No, you don't understand." Naomi and the other girls turned to a male student who just spoke up.
The said student was a young boy in the same-colored uniform, except that he was wearing pants for guys. He had dark wavy hair with freckles over his face and wore big, black eyeglasses.
"You see. That was Mistress May Kin, the third-year class president. She and her lackeys maintain control over us, first-year and second-year classes," the boy explained.
"So, in other words, she and her girl pals are big bullies! Someone should report her, and I will!" Naomi stated.
"You can't do that, Naomi-san." One of the girls spoke up.
"Huh? But why? The teachers will understand!" She argued.
"Even if you do, they won't do anything about it," the boy said. "If something happens to her, this school will be in trouble."
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"You see, she is the daughter of the mayor of the city. This school is funded by her father, so the board of education practically treats her like a princess," the boy explained.
"But that's simply wrong and so injustice! Just because she's the mayor's daughter, doesn't mean she can do whatever she wants!" Naomi exclaimed.
"I understand that you are new here, due to it being your first day today, so you don't know how things work here, but this is the way," the boy said. "Oh, by the way, my name is Yuji Yami."
"OK Yuji, but I can't stand to see Yuki being hurt by May and her friends. I am going to talk with her!" Naomi ran off to find Yuki.
"Wait! Lee-san, you should not!" One of the girls shouted, but it was too late.
Meanwhile, at the school's rooftop, Yuki was looking out, staring in space, and looking sad. She preferred to be alone, and not talk to anyone. She had been like this for a long, long time.
"Well, well. I knew you would be here." She turned around and gasped.
It was May Kin and her lackeys.
"Mistress May," Yuki fretted as she stepped back.
"You didn't think you would get away from us, did you?" Mistress May asked.
"I…Well…" Yuki couldn't say anything in response. As quiet as she looked, she was also very shy and couldn't speak out for herself.
"Now that. About the unfinished business we have, do you have what I ask you for?" Mistress May said.
"Yuuukkii!" Naomi arrived at the scene, surprising the girls.
"You again!" The girl in red exclaimed.
"You're such a pest! Get out of here!" The girl in orange stated
"I won't let you bully her, May!" Naomi declared.
"Bully her? I am only just doing business with her. She owns me something, and we were just going to hand it to me. Right, Kori-san?" May asked.
"Ye…Yes," she said in an agreeable tone, though not looking too pleased about it.
That was when Naomi got an idea. "Well, whatever she owns you, I want you to make a promise."
"A promise? Ha! What are you getting at?" Natsuki questioned, feeling a sense of doubt and insult.
"Hold up," May stopped her. "What are you proposing exactly?"
"I want you to promise that you don't bother Kori-san anymore," Naomi stated. "If you do, then… I will do whatever you want in place of her."
Yuki's eyes widened. "What?" she gasped. That was the first time she ever spoke up.
"Oh really? Huddle up!" May and her friends huddled up and discussed with each other secretly until they turned back to Naomi, facing her.
"You know what, new girl. You got yourself a deal. We will leave her alone, and you will be our personal 'maid'," May declared. "For now, I will take my leave."
The trio left, leaving Naomi and Yuki alone together.
"Well, thank heaven. I couldn't stand to be with her around," Naomi mumbled.
"Why…." Naomi turned to Yuki, who was looking down with her hands gripping. "Why are you doing this for me?"
"Huh?" Naomi looked confused.
"I just want to be alone… I don't want to bother anyone…. I am just nobody!" Yuki shouted as she ran off again.
"Kori-san…." Naomi looked saddened.
For the next several days, just as the girls promised, they left Yuki Kori alone, but now Naomi had to serve them like a "maid". They ordered her to get lunch for them, cleaned their shoes, and other mediocre errands.
It lasted for one week, and nobody could do anything about it. Naomi was getting tired, but she didn't mind as long as Yuki Kori is fine. Yuki, on the other hand, saw how May and her friends were using Naomi. Each day, she felt worse and worse, but quite didn't know why. She didn't care about anyone, but herself, and yet…. She didn't know why she was so fixated on Naomi's well-being.
"Hey Naomi, I am assigned to clean up my classroom after school, but I will escalate it to you, so my girls and I can hang-out at somewhere," May ordered.
"Yes, maim," Naomi agreed.
It was after school and just as May ordered her to, Naomi stayed and cleaned the classroom. What's worse was that not only she had to do this for May's classroom, but also for her classroom, too. In Japanese schools, no janitor does the cleaning of the classrooms. It was the duty of the students of that particular classroom to handle all the cleaning. Of course, they were only to do their homeroom. Each student of the class took turns to clean the home classroom, and they did it in a group.
"I finished up here," Naomi said. "I will go clean up Miss May's room now."
"Naomi-chan." One of my classmates spoke up. "We…. We were thinking we should help you."
"Don't worry, guys. You don't have to do that," Naomi resisted.
"But, Lee-san. You've been working for Mistress May for like a week now, and you look so tired," another classmate pointed out.
"It's OK! Thank you for asking, but I will be fine," Naomi reassured. Though her classmates looked indifferent about it, and they were worried, but they took her words for it and went home after they were done.
Naomi headed to May's home classroom. Her classroom was located at building A, which was the middle building at the school's campus area, and it was on the third floor. She had her bucket and broom she was borrowing.
She opened the door and then surprised to see that half of it was almost done.
"What the? Is there someone still here?" Naomi wondered. She looked around and saw a familiar face.
"Huh? Kori-san?!" She gasped.
Yuki Kori turned around and looked at her with the usual cold expression.
"What are you doing here? I thought you went home already."
"…. Don't get the wrong idea," she replied.
"Huh?" Naomi looked confused.
"I am doing this because I feel pity for you," Yuki explained as she took the broom and bucket. "You can finish the rest."
Yuki walked away and closed the door after she exited.
"Kori-san…" Naomi smiled lightly as she felt happy. She may not have admitted it, but Yuki Kori was just worried for her that she helped her.
- Pretty Cure –
"Kyah!" A young middle schooler tripped. May and her two friends stood before her.
"Thank you for the money, little pest squeak." Aki smirked as her second friend with the orange hair counted.
"Here you go, May. 5000 yen." She handed the money to May.
"Very good. Well, see you around, Keiko. Your debt for this week is paid," May said as she turned around, but stopped for a moment. "However, next time, don't resist."
"So, what are we going to do with the money?" Asked her friend.
"How about let's grab a bite. I'm starving!" said the other one as they laughed and got out of the alley.
Keiko, the girl who was beaten to the ground, stayed down as she cried to herself. A second later, it started raining as her dress became soaking wet, but it's nothing compared to the horrible experience she just had, and in the past.
She felt helpless, hopeless, sad, but most of all…angry. She wished she could get back on them. Make them feel pain, and teach them a lesson.
"Are you OK, miss?" The girl looked up. In front of her was a man in the hood. Under the hood revealed two glowing sinister yellow eyes.
"Wh…Who are you?!" She said in fear.
"Do not worry. I am here to help you. I can see it in your eyes. That sadness, yet the anger. The feeling and thirst for vengeance upon the ones who hurt you. I shall give you the power to achieve your revenge."
"Uh…. Kyaaaaaaaaaaahh!" She screamed, but nobody couldn't hear it due to the heavy rain.
- Pretty Cure-
Naomi was walking back home under the rain with her umbrella.
"It sure got a little bit late, but thank Kori-san, cleaning that classroom didn't take too long," Naomi said, grinning.
Then, her grin changed to a calm, sad look. "Still…. I just wonder why she didn't stand up for herself. At least she is safe now, but still…. I wonder how long I will have to work in May. At least Kori-san and the school would be safe as long as those girls don't do anything else."
Suddenly, her Cure Bracelet started blinking pink light. "What the? It's blinking! But that means…."
Some other days ago, the Doctor explained to her that Petty Cure Changers can detect any high level of minus energy.
Naomi followed where the blinking light was leading her, and it led to….
"Aaaaahh!" It's a monster!"
"I must be nearby!" She wondered as she ran faster and closer to the scene.
Naomi arrived and gasped. A strange being with a feminine-like body made of pure water was rampaging around. It sliced things in half by swinging her arms like using a sword.
"Another monster! I got to transform, but there are too many eyes here, so I need to do it…. there!" She ran into the alley where nobody will see her.
She raised her arm with her bracelet and said, "It's hero time, Pretty Cure!"
The pink light immersed her into it. Her body was shimmery, spinning around and all of a sudden, a pink and white uniform appeared in place of her clothes. Her blue Jeans was replaced by a short pink skirt. Next, a pair of white gloves and pink high heels with yellow hearts appeared on her hands and feet as she tapped against the ground. A pair of silver wrist armor appeared around her wrists. She then put her hands over her chest and a pink bow with a purple button and pink heart in the center appeared. Her ponytail extended and grew down to her thighs, and it turned pink. Over her forehead, a pink tiara with a red star in the center appeared. The front portion of her hair split into two bangs to make it look like an upside-down V shape. Her eyes opened, revealing them to be pink now.
"Aaaaaaahhh!" The being screamed. "Feel the pain!"
The monster shouted as she splashed and slashed whatever she can reach and touch. Within the running crowds, May and her friends were running for their lives. However, May tripped herself, but her friends kept going without looking back.
"Hey, wait for me!" She shouted.
Suddenly, something splashed behind her, making her look back and made her gasp.
"You! You will pay!" The water being roared as she screamed for her life until she fainted.
"Enough!" The water being turned around and saw Cure Power.
"Stay out of this!" The water being streamed a blast of water out of her arm.
Cure Power quickly blocked it, but it blasted her to a building, making her crash through the window. Cure Power got back up and punched back at the water being, but her punch went through her.
"What the?! My punch went through!" She gasped.
The water being punched her back. Cure Power tried to punch more and kick, too, but none of her attacks worked.
"Cure Power, could you hear me?" Doctor called her.
"Yeah, I can hear you and I need help! None of my attacks can touch this thing!" Cure Power stated.
"You got to find a way to counter it," Doctor said.
"Easy to say than done!" Cure Power replied as she dodged the water blast attack.
"Feel my pain!" The water villain shouted. "Everyone, anyone will know my pain and sadness!"
"Cure Power! Cure Power!" The commlink was being unresponsive. He decided to go out and see the scene, but before he left, he took one of the two Pretty Cure Changers with him
Just then, Yuki Kori saw what was going on. She saw Cure Power was struggling in her fight against the water being.
"She must be that superhero that saved the harbor men weeks ago! Pretty Cure!" Yuki realized.
Then, she quickly noticed that May was out cold on the street ground. She gasped at the sight of her senior fainted right in the middle of the fight. Yuki Kori saw how Cure Power was fighting the water being. It was best to not get involved and don't get yourself hurt.
Yuki Kori was about to turn away to run, but then she remembered about Naomi Lee, and how she stood up for her week ago. She didn't understand why the memories were coming through her mind, but she couldn't stop it. Even though May have bullied her, made her feel pain, sad, and angry, she couldn't help, but feeling that leaving her helpless didn't feel right.
Yuki Kori sighed heavily, and quickly turned back around. While Cure Power was keeping the monster busy, Yuki quickly ran over to fainted May, and put her arms around her shoulder, and carried her to safety.
However, the villain noticed and roared. "More people to feel pain!" The villain shot a pump of water at Yuki and fainted May.
"Kori-san?! Watch out!" Cure Power jumped in front of them and took on the attack.
"Get out of here! Quick!" She yelled.
"Alright!" Yuki responded as she quickly took May to safety.
"Bwahaha!" Cure Power was washed away, and could only get up to her hip.
"You will feel my pain!" The villain shouted.
The Doctor came to the scene and noticed that the Pretty Cure Changer was glowing in blue color.
"This light…. This means that another chosen wielder is nearby!" He looked around and saw that the light was reacting to Yuki Kori, who just carried May to an alley. He jumped off from the roof, surprising Yuki.
"Woah! Who are you?!" She gasped.
"My name is Doctor. I know you are surprised, but I saw you saving this classmate of yours," he said.
Yuki turned scowl, but sighed, "No, she is not my classmate. Just an upperclassman and…. not exactly a person I like."
Doctor didn't say anything for a moment but then said, "I think I understand what you mean. However, if my presumption is wrong, then whatever your relationship with this person is good or bad, you still risked your life to save her."
"I only did it because it was the right thing to do," Yuki said honestly.
"Then, perhaps you can do more," Doctor said as he handed her the device, which was the shape of a bow ribbon with a blue heart in the center. "Use this and you have the power to do so, but I only have one favor. Please help Cure Power and stop that monster."
Yuki Kori was surprised. She didn't know what to think, but there was one thing she knew. She won't run away from this.
"I don't know what's going on, but if this thing will help to get rid of that monster, then I will use it," Yuki accepted.
The blue light from the bow ribbon consumed her. Her body was shimmery as the icy cold wind was spinning around her, and changing her clothes to a blue and white uniform. A blue skirt was formed and a pair of long white socks and light blue sparkling long go-go boots appeared. Long white gloves with the spiky edge formed on her hand with the same sparkling effect. The uniform formed a snowflake design all over it as it sparkled. Her hair grew bigger, extending it to her thigh, and became snowy white color. Her eyes opened, revealing a shiny whitish-blue color. The same blue bow ribbon got bigger, and attached itself on her back, completing the costume.
She blew with her hand up near her lip, showing a cold breath. "The hero of ice who freezes the enemies of justice! Face my cool chivalry! Cure Freeze!" She posed with her right arm up with her hand opened, and her left hand on her hip.
"Feel my sadness!" The water being screeched as it fired a water blast at fallen Cure Power.
Cure Power's eyes widened as she was about to get attacked again, but the attack stopped or specifically turned frozen by an icy blast.
They looked at where it was coming from and saw her. "Woah! Who are you?!" They said at the same time.
"My name is Cure Freeze!" Cure Freeze introduced herself strongly.
"Cure Freeze!" Cure Power exclaimed as she was excited and happy that another Pretty Cure appeared.
"Bwaaah! I don't care who you are! I will make you feel my pain, too!" The water villain shot a water blast at her. Cure Freeze swayed her hands at a normal pace, releasing a cold air out of her hand which turned the water to ice in midair.
"Wow! You have the power to freeze water!" Cure Power exclaimed.
"That isn't the only thing I can do," Cure Freeze replied as she then shot an icy beam out of both hands in front of her air. She was now using her ice power to move around.
The villain tried to hit her but kept missing.
"Stay still!" It complained.
"Why don't you just chill out?" Cure Freeze countered. "Freeze Beam!"
Cure Freeze shot a beam of ice out of her hand, hitting the villain and freezing her into an icy statue of itself.
"Nnnnoooooo!" It cried.
"Now is your chance, Cure Power!" Cure Freeze shouted.
"Right!" Cure Power got back up as she then charged up her fist. "Kick this, villain! Precure Heart Punch!"
Her fist turned into a ball of pink light and punched the water being into pieces of ice with only a single young girl breaking out of the ice. Cure Freeze caught her and laid her down.
"Hey, this girl… She is wearing the same uniform as my school!" Cure Power noticed.
"I know her. Her name is Keiko Kaneda. She is from Class 1-3 of Megatropolis Middle School," Cure Freeze explained.
"How did you know that?" Cure Power asked.
"I should ask you the same thing. How did you know that she is from your school unless you go to the same school?" Cure Freeze asked in response.
"Aaahhh…Well…"
That was when they heard a police siren.
"Uh oh! We better get out of here! The police should handle this girl now that she is safe!" Cure Power flew off. Cure Freeze joined with her, too.
- Pretty Cure –
Later that night, Naomi Lee and Yuki Kori were at Doctor's secret hideout.
"Holy Crap, Yuki! I didn't know you became a Pretty Cure! That's so cool!" The girl was excited around Yuki while the latter looked annoyed.
"I… I had no choice to do so. You were pitiful in fighting that monster, so I just joined in to stop it, not to help you or anything," Yuki chided.
"Well, whatever your reason is, I am glad." Yuki looked a bit surprised at Naomi's response. "You may look a bit cold, but you're a kind person. Thank you for all your help today, Yuki-chan!"
Yuki blushed a bit and turned away, hiding her face. "Yu… Your welcome, I guess."
"Now that you two got to know each other a bit." Doctor spoke up. "An important matter to discuss; you two from now on will work together. Yuki Kori, I know that a lot has happened today, and you have a lot of questions to ask, but I will answer them in all due time. I do expect one thing; use your power wisely and fight the affected human being by minus energy."
"You are a superhero, like me, Yuki-chan. Let's do our best and fight crimes together, Okay?" She offered her a handshake.
Yuki looked at her, but instead of a handshake, she gave her Pretty Cure Changer.
"Sorry, but I quit," Yuki stated.
"Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattt?!" Naomi gasped.
