TW - miscarriage.

The dull ache in Rachel's lower abdomen was getting harder to ignore. Usually she only required a couple of paracetamol to keep period pains at bay. Annoyingly, when she checked her period tracker app she noticed she'd not recorded anything for a couple of months so had put the pain down to her being due on.

Trying to get comfortable in her office chair to complete some paper work was becoming nay on impossible. The sudden stabbing sensation made Rachel gasp and hunch over on herself. Struggling for breathe, she knew something wasn't right.

So many possible reasons were going through her mind and then suddenly she froze. "No, no, no, I can't be". She said to herself in a desperate voice. Maybe it wasn't that she'd forgotten to update her app, had 2 months really gone past without her realising?!

Fear and panic were two of Rachel's most hated emotions and they were hitting her simultaneously. She'd been so busy avoiding reality that she hadn't noticed, she'd put nausea down to the fact that she didn't want to come to school, the dizzy spells were because she'd hardly been eating and the tiredness was down to being so overworked.

Only now things started to add up. Another debilitating stabbing pain had her reaching for her mobile and pushing herself off the chair, turning her back to her desk, she slowly slid down onto the floor bringing her knees to her chest.

"Please can you come to my office? Now, please." Rachel begged.

Only moments had passed when the door of her office opened. "Rachel" Eddie said, confused that she'd asked him to come to her office immediately only to find it empty.

"Eddie" Rachel called out just as he was about to leave.

Eddie spin round, following the direction of her voice.

"Rachel, what's happened?" He said, crouching next to her, his voice full of concern.

"I think I'm having a miscarriage." She said quietly, almost as if she didn't want him to hear her. Rachel looked up, Eddie's eyes wide "You're pregnant?"

"I don't know, but aaahhhhhh" Rachel whimpered in pain. "I think I might be, but somethings not right."

"I'll call an ambulance. "

"No, please no. I don't need an ambulance, I'll get myself to hospital. I just need you to…"

"Rachel stop, you're in not fit state to go on your own. I'll take you."

Rachel laughed between the pain "Oh yeah, and what will you tell Mellisa? That you slept with her sister, got her pregnant and she's now having a miscarriage so you need to take her to hospital?" She practically hissed.

Eddie's face fell, "The baby's mine?"

The flash of hurt and anger Rachel felt from Eddie's response was clear on her face. "Rachel look at me, you may or may not be miscarrying. You're in an enormous amount of pain, you need to go to hospital. Please let me take you. Forget Mellisa, forget the school, you need to concentrate on yourself for now, please."

Rachel nodded in response, in to much pain to formulate words.

"Ok, I'm going to go and get Tom and ask him to drive my car to the fire exit. It will be the quicker way to get you out and not passing any classrooms. I'll be two minutes."

As soon as Eddie left the office, the tears started rolling down her face. She couldn't help it. She was in so much pain both physically and emotionally. Her head was swimming with questions, how could she not have realised she was pregnant? How could she have been so stupid to get into this situation? How was she going to get over the loss of something she didn't know she was having but had wanted so badly?

Eddie returned to her side, horrified seeing the state Rachel was in but ready to carry her down to the car. He didn't care how many driving laws he broke, he just needed to get her medical help as soon as possible. As Eddie reached out to pick Rachel up, she grabbed his hand and sobbed.

"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry"
