A/N: Things are finally starting to look a tiny bit better. Just barely but it's a start. I'm making progress every day and I'm hoping to continue this trend. For now, here's a short one shot.
OOOOOOOOOOOO
David heard the thunder rolling through the skies as the cell phone went off in his pocket. His eyes looked up into the sky as he pulled the cigarette from his mouth and pressed the phone to his ear. Only one person had this number anyway.
His girl.
"Calli…"
"Hi, I'd like to order a meat lover's pizza," Calli's voice said over the phone, speaking a little shakily.
The vampire lifted an eyebrow. "Calli, this isn't the pizzaman, sweetheart. This is David."
"And I'd like to make it stuffed crust this time, if you can?"
Something didn't feel right about this. David didn't like how she didn't seem to know that she was on the phone with him.
"Calli, what's going on?"
"Yes, an order of bread sticks and pop would be fine too. Dr. Pepper is the house favorite."
David strained to hear anything on the other end of the conversation. He thought he heard someone mutter something.
"Is someone there with you that shouldn't be?" he asked, crushing out his cigarette.
"Yes, that will be all. Thank you. Can I have the total?"
David's heart sunk to a new low in his stomach. His eyes narrowed and he started walking towards the entrance to the boardwalk. "Princess, I'll be there in five minutes."
"Please come soon," Calli said, letting out a little laugh. And he could hear the nerves in it. "I've been craving pizza all day long."
Please be okay, princess. "Can you stay on the phone, Calli?"
"No. You've been very helpful. I'll be the house with the light on the front porch. You can't miss it."
The connection ended with a click and David slid the phone back into his pocket. He took off towards his motorcycle, pushing people out of his way. He jumped on the back of it and tore off into the night as the skies opened up and rain poured out upon the world.
If he lays a hand on her…if anyone ever lays a hand on her…David thought, grinding his teeth together. They're fucking dead! No one touches her!
David sped through the night and took sharp turn after sharp turn until he reached her street. He killed the engine and leaped off, light as a shadow. He straightened to his full, massive height and stalked towards the house.
The porch light was indeed on, keeping with the charade.
David could hear Calli's heartbeat, so familiar to him by now, beating so fast in the house as he approached the house. There were two other heartbeats in there besides hers. He could tell they were male. He could tell they wanted to scare her, to hurt her…to make her suffer.
"Can't – can't you just let me go?" Calli's voice asked as he slid through a window. "No one has to know that you're here…"
"Shut it, bitch," one of the men said, hiding his face like a coward behind a ski mask.
David rolled his eyes at the guns in their hands. Pathetic. Thieves that were there to take what was his girl's hard earned, well spoiled treats. He could see their bags overstuffed with things in the corner as they stood in the living room, guns trained on Calli.
Calli was kneeling on the ground in between them, hands up in surrender. David could see the way that her arms were shaking and wondered how long that they had had her keep her hands up that way.
If they make her pull so much as a muscle…
The other one chuckled and moved over to David's girl, playing with the buckle on his belt. "What's a good girl like you going to do to make us go away happy?"
Calli shook her head and lowered her gaze. "You already have most of my stuff, what more do you want?"
"You."
David had to suppress the growl in his throat.
"Sorry, I'm taken." Calli said, shaking her head and sounding not sorry at all.
The man waved his gun with a careless hand. "I don't see anyone here but us, girly. If you were taken wouldn't he be here banging the shit out of you?" He chuckled. "Maybe we ought to do it in his place."
Calli kept her head bowed. "You're making a big mistake…"
The man moved closer to her. "Stop talking and start being a good slut."
Calli lowered her hands. "I tried to warn you."
David leaped forward out of the shadows and grabbed both men, throwing them into the next room with strangled yelps coming from their lips. He didn't want Calli to see what he was going to do.
It was over in a matter of seconds. The mess, he regretted making in her house, but he felt it was necessary. The fuckers were dead. They wouldn't be hurting his girl again. They wouldn't be hurting anyone ever again.
David turned when he heard soft footsteps enter the room and his face returned to that of a perfect god. "Calli, don't…"
Calli stared at the mess on the floor of her dining room without flinching. "Well…good thing I'm a hospital housekeeper or this would be a bitch to clean." Her eyes lifted to meet his and watered. "You came for me."
David was in front of her in a heartbeat, his fingers caressing her cheek. "I would come for you no matter what, princess. You're my girl. And I will kill any fucker that decides to mess with what's mine."
Calli bounced on her toes and brushed her lips against his. David kissed her back and cupped her ass, lifting her up. Her legs wrapped around his waist and he carried her out of the room and into a different space, kissing her softly.
The thunder rumbled overhead, covering Calli's soft moans as he showed her that he meant every word that he had said to her…
OOOOOOOOOO
