Authors note: Sorry for the late update, I caught a nasty bug and then comic con came up and I never found the time to post this. Hopefully now that things have returned to there normal pace I will be able to resume with our fort-nightly schedule.
Chapter 12 The next move
"No!"
"Well, what about if we"
"No! Listen we don't have enough people to take on a frontal assault"
General Yunnan flipped the table over in frustration sending maps and game pieces everywhere "Well we need to do something!" Lady Olivia pinched the bridge of her nose clearly worn out from this. The strategy meeting had been going on for what felt like hours, the general and Lady Olivia had invited Grime and Sasha in hopes they would be able to provide valuable information that would help defeat the toads. Instead, the group only continued to argue and bicker as they struggled to come up with a viable plan.
"Listen! Bog has an army and we have nothing! If we try and fight them now, then we're dead!" Sasha explained.
"So, we just sit here and hide, while that imposter continues to boss around my men! I think not! I say we take the fight to them! Take out as many toads as we can in glorious battle!" Grime yelled, slamming his fists down on the table.
"Exactly! We can take those filthy toads!" Yunnan cheered.
Sasha was growing impatient as she mumbled cursed words under her breath, seeing her impatience build Lady Olivia addressed the group. "I'm afraid that won't be happening, we are the last line of defence for our people. To launch such a reckless attack would not only be a suicide but leave everyone else completely defenseless. Which is why I cannot allow such a reckless plan" Lady Olivia said, in a strict commanding tone.
"You have a better plan princess?" Grime asked.
"Listen, if we can't fight, then the only thing left for us to do is run, there is a town nearby that I'm sure would be willing to give us safe haven. While our people are there, we can seek aid and recruit more solders to help us fight, with more numbers our chances increase" Lady Olivia explained.
"Grrr, running away and ignoring a fight, that is the way of a coward!" Grime snapped.
"Fighting a fight you cannot win is something only a fool would do" Olivia refuted.
"What did you call me?" Grime snapped as he stood from his chair.
Sasha quickly placed a firm hand on the toads shoulder "In order to kill our enemies we first have to survive, if you die to a bunch of toads then Bog wins and I know you don't want that" Grime let out an annoyed huff as he crossed his arms and gritt his teeth.
"There is one problem my lady" General Yunnan said, as she rolled out a map across the table. "Bog has spread out his men all around the area, in order for us to get through these woods we will have to pass them, which means there is a high chance we may run into Bog or at the very least some of his men. If that happens, I find it highly unlikely that a fight won't break out. We won't be able to protect everyone while defending against Bogs men, worst still if some of our people do happen to escape there's a chance the toads may stalk them into the next town."
"Meaning countless of others will be slaughtered or captured as well. I understand, then perhaps fighting is our only choice" Lady Olivia conceded.
"Of course it is! Even if we die, every toad we take down increases the chance of your people getting away" Grime agreed with a smug smirk.
"Then we have no choice, General, Grime, gather up as many men as you can, I will lead the women and children away while the battle rages on. Sasha, can you provide- Sasha are you listening?"
The group looked over to Sasha, she was examining the map carefully and with a red pen in hand marked out various locations. "Yeah, no, Scratch that mess, I have a better plan, one that will assure the safety of your people"
After the meeting came to a close, Lady Olivia sent word of the plan to her people so that they would be prepared come morning. Grime returned to his cabin to sharpen his blades after which he picked out some of the Newtopian guards to spar with. General Yunnan was still in the war room, placing everything away along side Sasha who stayed to help.
"Have you informed your solders?" Sasha asked.
"Yes, they know what there role is, don't worry they won't get in your way"
"Good… I err actually wanted your advice on something" Sasha admitted as she rolled the map back up handing it to the general.
"You should keep it, I'm sure having a map of Amphibia will serve you well in the future, that is if you still have one after tomorrow"
"I don't plan on dying" Sasha said, as she pocketed the map.
"Hahaha! No one ever dose I suppose but still she comes for everyone in time, I've escaped her icy clutches countless of times but I am not so arrogant to think myself invincible."
"Sigh, not that it matters to you wherever I live or die, I'm just an untrustworthy rouge right? If I did die tomorrow that would be one less thing for you to worry about" Sasha said, in sarcastic tone.
"I'll admit I hold no trust for you Sasha Waybright but be that as it may I still can't help but respect your warrior spirit. That is why I hope that if your blade should ever fall that it is in the heat of battle, for that is what it means to be a warrior. Now if your excuse me I must see to my men, I can't have them slacking of before the big day" General Yunnan said, then left the tent.
Left alone Sasha let out a small breath as she rubbed her head "Stupid lizard, I didn't get to her ask her a thing about it" she mumbled under her breath.
What exactly were you expecting?
She jumped back slightly at the sudden voice, peering behind her she was still alone, no one had entered the tent which meant. "You" Sasha spat, her tone harsh, her fists clenched and her eyes narrowed at the invisible spectre before her.
What's with the sudden hostility?
"Where the hell have you been? Do you have any idea the shit that's happened while you've been gone!"
I assume your talking about the battle at toad tower.
"So you do know but then why didn't you do anything to help, if your this all powerful bean like you claim, surely you could have done something" Sasha snapped, her blood bubbling with rage.
Perhaps, but I don't see why I should, after all the lives of those of this world are of no consequence to me.
I gain nothing by interfering with there mortal quarries and besides there deaths are but a spec in the grand scheme of things.
In the end those who fall so easily hold no importance to this world or the others.
"Y-Y-You, are you seriously saying you could have prevented all that but chose not to! Why? Why the hell wouldn't you stop all that bloodshed?" Sasha asked her eyes glowing a dark red before simmering away.
I see you have still not awakened.
"What?"
No matter, I will continue to support you until you do.
"Support me? You haven't done a damn thing to support me you bastard!" Sasha yelled.
Oh, it appears the transition has unforeseen side effects on your memory.
"What the hell are you-" Sasha cut herself of as a blinding white light filled the room. She was unable to move or shield her eyes as the light began to come alive and wrap around her arms and legs restraining and pulling her along.
I believe in order for this partnership to continue it would be best for you to come to a better understanding on my true intentions. So, I invite you Sasha Waybright to take a peek at the grand scheme, the master plan laid out for all living creatures as you enter my domain.
