Chapter 6 The Serpent King

Its been two years since the Sith revealed themselves and damaged Sean's connection to the force.

After the attack on the temple the Senate had voted for an army to fight against them.

Sean had been placed in charge of the Military and made sure the soldiers were trained right to make sure no shortcuts were made in their training.

And Last year both he and Korra were Made Jedi knights due to how far they've come in their training.

Since then the Sith hadn't been seen since but everyone was waiting for them knowing it was only a matter of time.

Right now Sean and a few others were at a dig sight in the Fire nation.

"Remind me again why are we here?" Anakin asked making Sean snort.

"This is a historical site. Legend has it Avatar Salai died here vanquishing a great evil that was threatening the Fire Nation." Sean said. (Look up YondaimeMinato4 on Deviant Art and you'll see who that is. Not his real name since only a few have names but it fits)

"Oh yeah? What kind of Evil?" Anakin asked.

"Don't know. The Legend doesn't fully say. But Legend has it the Fire Lord during that time asked him to end the threat before it got worse." Sean said.

"Hey check this out!" Turok yelled getting their attention as they rushed to see Turok pull out some golden staff that had a strange serpent wrapped around it with a Diamond in the mouth.

"Whoa. What is that?" Anakin asked.

"The Eye of Medusa. Legend has it that the greatest smith in history created this for Avatar Salai. Never said why though." Sean said holding it.

"Maybe Salai had good taste."

Sean turned seeing a Famale Mandolorian with Tan skin Purple and Orange dyed hair and brown eyes.

This was Sabine Wren. A member of the Wren Clan of Mandolor.

After the Sith came back many of the Clans of Mandolor pledged loyalty to him since his father defeated them in the old days.

Though the Duchess didn't Like it she said nothing.

"Very funny Sabine." Sean said.

"No I'm serious since look at this." Sabine said holding it. "This is the kind of thing a King would hold." Sean said making him snort.

"She's got you there." Iden said.

"Ok shut up and keep digging." Sean said as they moved around.

Tarkin was inspecting the staff in hand.

"A rather interesting find Turok." Tarkin said.

"Heh. Thank Nexo. He's the one who helped me find it." Turok said petting him making him purr.

"Yeah sure." Korra said before having flashes of the staff before shaking her head.

"Korra? Are you all right?" Tarkin asked.

"I think I just got some flashes from my days as Salai. Something about that staff is off." Korra said.

"You have managed to get airbending down but you spiritual connection is still crap." Turok said making her her kick him as he grunted while Nexo made laughing sounds.

"Keep running your mouth." Korra said.

"Enough. See if you can find anything else." Tarkin said.

"Right." Korra said as they left.

Sean and Iden along with her friends and Squad-mates Hask and Del found some statues.

"The craftsmanship on these is remarkable." Del said.

"I didn't even think people were making statues like this during Salai's time." Hask said.

"They weren't. This is something else." Sean said feeling the stone on it. "Take a feel for this. Smooth as limestone but it's not. It's almost Organic." Sean said.

"Maybe some Earth Benders made this." Iden said.

"No, thats not it." Sean said before they felt a gust of wind.

"That was sudden." Hask said.

"GUYS! CHECK THIS OUT!" Jade yelled as they rushed to her.

"What is it? Whoa!" Sean yelled seeing some massive stone statue of some strange serpent.

"What is it?" Tarkin asked before seeing it. "Oh my." Tarkin said.

"What the hell is this?" Gideon said.

"I have no idea. I've never seen anything like it. Forge!" Sean yelled getting his second in command to rush up.

"Yeah?" Forge asked.

"Have transport here to lift this thing out of here." Sean said.

"Right." Forge said calling it in.

"Rather strange thing to find here." Tarkin said.

"Yeah." Sean said before Korra saw more visions seeing an evil monster attacking people left and right before shaking her head. "You ok?" Sean asked.

"I don't know, something about that thing bugs me." Korra said.

"It's stone. Not like it's a living creature. I don't sense anything from it." Sean said showing his Inhibitors were off meaning he was at full power before turning them on.

"You didn't sense anything?" Korra asked.

"Nope. It's just pure stone." Sean said.

2 months later at the Fire Nation.

"I am impressed by all this. Ancient ruins found from the days of one of Korra's predecessor's." Palpatine said as he and Sean walked through the Exhibit of what they found.

"Yeah. Salai was considered a legend during his time like Kyoshi. Said to have stopped a great evil in his time." Sean said.

"The Sith?" Palptatine asked.

"No, the Sith were unknown to the Earth at the time. No this was from Earth. Never said what it was though. Only it was defeated during an Eclipse and thats it." Sean said.

"History is long forgotten by many as time goes by." Palpatine said.

"True." Sean said.

"With the Achievements like yours I'm surprised both you and Korra aren't Jedi Masters now." Palpatine said.

"Rank is meaningless to me. A title may get you somewhere in life but ultimately it's experience that matters." Sean said making him chuckle.

"Very true. I do look forward to tonight." Palpatine said.

"Mmm." Sean said.

Later

Everyone was gathered for the even of the eclipse tonight.

While Sean was talking with his father and some other higher ups thats when Iden and her squad rushed to him.

"Sean, We have a serious problem." Iden said.

"What now? If Malefor has done something to sabotage tonight." Sean tried to say.

"No. It's those statues we found. It turns out they're not solid all the way through." Del said.

"What?" Tarkin asked.

"Scan indicated that there was Bones and other Organic material inside. We think this is some kind of mummification process." Hask said.

"Thats not possible. The First nation never did stuff like that. What is going on?" Sean asked.

"Perhaps this has something to do with Salai and the evil he faced in his time." Tarkin said.

"Probably. And I think it has something to do with that." Sean said looking at the Serpent statue.

"What the statue?" Iden asked.

"Korra's been getting some very strange visions since we found that thing. I think Salai is trying to warn her about something." Sean said.

"Like what? Bad craftsmanship?" Hask asked before Iden Elbowed him.

"Take this serious. What do you wanna do?" Iden asked.

"We'll have to return them when this is over." Sean said.

"Something the matter?" Palpatine asked.

"Uh...We might have to return what we found. Theres evidence the statues are some mummification process." Sean said.

"Hmm? I didn't think the fire nation did that sort of thing." Palpatine said.

"They didn't but something clearly is up." Sean said.

"Something wrong now?"

Sean looked seeing a man and woman approaching them both human.

"Ah, allow me to introduce Hannah and Brock. They helped finance your dig site." Palpatine said.

"A pleasure." Sean said.

After that Palpatine went to give a speech about the expedition before unveiling the Stone serpent statue.

Sean looked at Korra seeing her looked unnerved.

"Still having issues?" Sean asked.

"Something about that statue bugs me." Korra said.

"Maybe it's related to your freak boyfriend." Malefor said making his presence known.

"Put a lid on it." Sean said making him scoff.

Thats when the Eclipse began.

"This time around the Fire Nation isn't scared beyond words." Korra teased making Sean chuckle before noticing the eye of Medusa glowing at the gem stone.

"What the?" Sean said as the stone Serpent's body began to change from stone to flesh and blood shocking the crowd.

"Oh my word." Palpatine said as it looked around before spotting Palpatine before spraying some liquid from the mouth making him yell in shock before it's eyes glowed and turned to stone shocking everyone as people began running in fear.

"The hell is that!" Hask yelled as they started firing at it but their shots just bounced.

"Everyone out now!" Sean yelled before spotting Hannah and Brock leave with the Eye of Medusa. "What the hell?" Sean asked before everyone rushed off before the place began to crumble apart burying some people.

Everyone ran out of the building.

"Wheres Sean and Korra?" Tarkin asked.

"I don't know. They were getting everyone out.

Inside

Korra groaned as she got up.

"Sean?" Korra called out.

"Right here." Sean said running to her. "You ok?" Sean asked.

"I'm good. What the hell was that?" Korra asked.

"I have no idea." Sean said.

"I'd like to know." Malefor said coming to them.

"Oh great. As if we don't have enough problems from the guy who helped bring the Sith back." Sean said.

"Save it. What was that thing?" Malefor asked.

"How are we supposed to know?" Korra asked.

"You know almost everything." Malefor said.

"Thats high praise coming from you." Korra said.

"Whatever. What is it?" Malefor asked.

"No idea. But it used to be a statue. Most have been solid all the way through. Thats probably why I couldn't sense anything about it." Sean said.

"How do we get out of here?" Malefor asked before they found a hatch to the sewers. "Please tell me you're joking?" Malefor asked.

"No. Better this than running into that thing. Whatever it is." Sean said as he went down as Korra followed making him sigh.

Outside

"Commander never checked in. Odds are he's still inside." Forge said.

"All right. Prepare Republic Millitary to take action. Mas was also killed in that event which technically leaves me and my son as the highest ranking officers of the Republic." Tarkin said.

"Right." Forge said.

"What the hell have we unleashed?" Del asked.

"We're about to find out." Iden said.

In the sewers

"There should be a hatch here somewhere." Sean said as they walked around before spotting a ladder before they were about to go up.

"Can't you use the force to open it?" Malefor asked.

Sean tried but couldn't before looking at his inhibitors seeing they were damaged.

"Fuck. They must have gotten damaged in the rubble. And I can't take them off. Korra, what about you?" Sean asked before she tried to metal bend it.

"It's not the same as Earth based Metal. I can't open it. And it's sealed really tight." Korra said.

"Come on." Sean said pulling out his communicator trying to contact his father.

"Where are you?" Tarkina asked.

"We're in the damn sewers. Track our location and get us out of here." Sean said.

"On our way." Tarkin said.

"We gonna talk about that thing? How did it turn the Chancellor to stone?" Malefor asked.

"We don't know anything about that thing...But I do think thats probably what Salai faced in his time." Sean said.

"I think you're right. It was just pure evil." Korra said.

"Oh, it's just a dumb animal. Animals aren't evil." Malefor said.

"Tell that to those things the Sith created in the old Republic." Sean said.

"Ok fair point. So how do we stop it?" Malefor asked before they heard roaring making them freeze.

"Oh shit." Sean said before they looked around as Malefor went around the corner.

"I don't think..." Malefor tried to say before getting spraying and screamed as he turned to stone.

Thats when the hatch opened.

"Go!" Sean yelled as Korra quickly climbed out before they were pulled out as Sean sealed it shut.

"What happened?" Tarkin asked.

"That thing was down there with us and turned Malefor to stone." Sean said.

"You let my son die!" Krennic yelled in rage.

"No, It surprised us and turned him to stone. We didn't even know it was down there till the last second." Sean said as Krennic tried to hit him but he dodged before Korra slugged him making him groan falling to the ground.

"Enough. I want this creature found and killed." Tarkin said.

"'Use extreme caution." Sean said.

"Roger that." Forge said leading the troops.

"What are we dealing with here?" Gideon asked.

"I think I know a way to find out." Sean said looking at Korra.

Later

"And your sure this is related to Salai?" Tarkin asked.

"It's the only logical explanation." Sean said as Korra was in a meditation stance to try and connect to her past life of Salai.

Thats when she found herself in the Earth Kingdom.

"Hello, Korra." Salai said in his old Earth Kingdom gear.

"Salai. I need to know what I'm facing. You clearly know." Korra said.

"Indeed I do. It's called a Basilisk. It was a dark spirit given material form. One that wished nothing but destruction upon the Earth. It has the ability to turn people into stone when it's venom is splashed onto people or animals." Salai said.

"So how did you stop it the first time?" Korra asked.

"The same way it was set free." Salai said.

"The Eye of Medusa?" Korra asked.

"Only during the eclipse can the Eye be used to turn it back to stone. You must retrieve the eye or many will die by it's hands." Salai said.

Korra opened her eyes seeing Sean and the others.

"Well?" Tarkin asked.

"It's called the Basilisk. It turns people to stone with both it's venom and gaze. Salai defeated it by turning it to stone with the staff. We need to get it back." Korra said.

"Problem. That bitch Hannah and her husband Brock stole it. But I don't think just to sell it or keep it." Sean said.

"What are you thinking?" Tarkin asked.

"I don't know. But maybe the eye isn't just for turning that thing to stone. Maybe theres something else that they know." Sean said.

Later

The Basilisk had moved into Civilian population but thankfully most of the area was evacuated.

"I hope that staff isn't the only way to stop it." Forge said.

"We could try to capture it and throw it into the sun if that doesn't work." Sean said before a transmission came through. "Yeah?" Sean asked.

"I'm going over everything we can on this thing. The scales are so tough that blaster fire isn't gonna work. It'll just piss it off." Gideon said.

"Great. What would work besides the Scepter?" Sean asked.

"Liquid nitrogen would be a good guess at best. Or extreme heat or an Electric current. But other than that not even a lightsaber would work." Gideon said.

"Why am I not surprised. What about those scans?" Sean asked.

"I'm still working on it but I'll get to you when I can." Gideon said.

Thats when they heard screaming coming from the mall.

"Fuck!" Sean yelled rushing in with the troops.

"Get that thing away from civilians." Korra said before they spotted Hannah and Brock.

"There they are!" Sean yelled as they rushed after them.

The Basilisk slithered off after both Hannah and Brock.

"Why doesn't this thing just go away!" Hannah yelled before getting slugged by Korra.

"Nice try." Korra said before seeing it and Airbended it far away. "Now why do you want the Scepter? To keep that thing from being turned to stone?" Korra asked.

"No the treasure you dumb bitch." Hannah said.

"The what?" Korra asked before it came back which gave Brock a chance to hit Korra making her groan as they ran off while it went right after them.

"Ahhh!" Brock yelled before it turned him to stone shocking Hannah before she ran off.

"Damnit." Korra said before seeing it slither off.

"It's gone." Sean said as the troops stood down as he helped Korra up. "Not like you to get hit by a civilian." Sean said.

"I got distracted. Hannah mentioned something about a treasure. Thats why they need the eye." Korra said.

"Treasure? Wait a second. You remember when we found that scroll a month before that thing?" Sean asked.

"Yeah?" Korra asked.

"What if it's not a scroll." Sean said.

"A map?" Korra asked.

"Wasn't there a legend Salai had amased a large fortune in his time?" Sean asked.

"I think Jinora mentioned it one time. How does Hannah know about it though?" Korra asked.

"It's been 10 years since Earth Joined the Republic. Thats a long time to catch up on history." Sean said before his communicator went off. "Yeah?" Sean asked.

"I got good news and I got bad news." Gideon said.

"Good news first." Sean said.

"If we get the scepter back theres one way we can mimic the reaction it got when the eclipse went off. In a nuclear reactor. And good news to that theres one nearby." Gideon said.

"Nice. Now the bad news?" Sean asked.

"Uh...How do I put this?" Gideon said trying to find the right words.

"Gideon?" Tarkin asked.

"We really need to kill this thing now or theres gonna be more." Gideon said.

"What are you talking about?" Korra asked.

"I just got back the scans on this thing when it was still stone...Theres good chance our Basilisk is trying to find a nest...To Lay eggs." Gideon said shocking them.

"Please tell me you're joking?" Sean begged.

"Nope. Theres at least 20 or so eggs inside her." Gideon said.

"I don't believe this. How can this get any worse?" Sean asked.

"Oh it can...Wheres the map?" Korra asked making him widen his eyes.

"Map? What map?" Tarkin asked.

"Remember that scroll we found a month before we found that thing? It turns out it's a map to Salai's fortune. Enough for you to live the life of luxury for life." Sean said.

"And Gideon has it." Tarkin said before they got into a speeder.

Later

"Gideon!" Sean yelled as they rushed through the facility.

"Where is he?" Korra asked.

"Looking for him?" Hannah asked as she held him with a knife at his throat.

"How did you know about the Fortune?" Sean asked.

"This isn't the first world of primitives people like me have looked for treasure. I'm just the only one who's come this close." Hannah said.

"That doesn't answer the question." Sean said.

"And I'm not gonna. The fact is Salai's fortune is still ripe for me. And I intend to take it." Hannah said.

"We need that staff to turn that thing back to stone." Korra said.

"Too bad. I'm taking it with me. You'll just have live on another planet." Hannah said before a shadow was over her.

"I got a suggestion for ya...Say hi to Brock when you see him in hell in 10 seconds." Sean said.

"What?" Hannah asked looking behind her before screaming as the Basilisk dashed at her freeing Gideon who grabbed the Scepter.

"I suggest we leave." Tarkin said as they rushed out.

Later

Korra was in a hazmat suit outside the Reactor the men trapped the Basilisk in.

"You sure you don't want me to do this?" Sean asked.

"I stopped this thing the last time hundreds of years ago...I have to stop it again." Korra said.

"All right." Sean said as she took the staff.

"Any luck with the treasure?" Korra asked making him smirk.

"Found it. We'll get it later." Sean said kissing her making her smile.

"As tender this moment is we have work to do." Tarkin said.

"Good luck." Sean said as she put her helmet on before going inside as the men sealed the door.

"I'm certain she'll be fine." Tarkin said.

Korra walked into the reactor room to find the Basilisk.

"Ok freak. Ready for me again?" Korra asked before it came right down in front of her and roared.

Korra held out the Scepter as it began to glow like before making it roar before slowly turning to stone.

"I got visual. It's working." Gideon said.

"Keep it up Korra. We'll send it into the sun after this." Sean said.

"Good so it and it's bloodline doesn't come back." Korra said before it pushed her back making her drop it.

"Get the staff back." Gideon said.

"Hang on I got another idea." Korra said taking control of a crane in the room before grabbing it and placed it over the cooling nitrogen water. "Goodbye freak." Korra said dropping it inside water making it crumble apart. "Hot and cold water equals death for Basilisk." Korra said as everyone cheered.

Later

"Nice work. You just started you're Legend earlier than Most do." Sean said making her smile as he held her close.

"Welp, Everything is back to normal." Hask said.

"Not quite."

Both turned to see a man and woman Sean's age. The man had brown hair white skin and purple eyes in Jedi robes. The second had White Skin brown hair in a pony tail and brown eyes with glasses.

"Reznov, Julia. Whats up?" Sean asked.

"Uh." Reznov said pulling out two lightsabers before turning them on showing they were red.

"Where did you get those?" Korra asked.

"Thats the part your not gonna believe. Palpatine." Julia said.

"What?" Tarkin asked.

"Our Chancellor was a Sith Lord. Found these in his statue when it accidentally broke." Reznov said.

"Meaning Palpatine was Maul's master. He didn't know anything about the Sith I could easily sense his surprise when they came. He wasn't one of them." Sean said.

"Meaning the Republic has been compromised." Tarkin said.

"Compromised or given a chance to tear it down for something more grand." Sean said.

"Meaning?" Korra asked.

"My dad and I are the highest ranking officials in the Republic Now. Meaning we;'re in charge. I got an idea. I think it's time we tear down the Republic and Build something better." Sean said.

"I agree. Tear down the Republic thats flawed and was easily infiltrated for something that gets results and better security." Tarkin said.

"What an empire?" Hask asked.

"No, Like I said years ago. Empires rise and fall all the time. You need something that inspires." Sean said.

"Oh yeah? Like what?" Iden asked making him smirk.

"How does the Legion sound?" Sean asked.
