Story 14 - The Mission, written by: Pengy4689

I walked through the "Overgrowth", at least that's what the inhabitants of this world seem to call it. This world was nothing like the one I used to be in. This place was filled with stuff called "Plants" and "Trees". But back at home those didn't exist. Instead he had a sky that was covered in storm clouds and it constantly rained lightning, but it seems like over here they only come once in forever, usually replaced by a vast blue with splotches of white here and there. Even when it does come around the bolts it fires off are pitiful. I have been running on low power because of this ever since I've come here.

But I had to be here, I must. Around a week ago a strange tunnel tore itself into our world. From the front it led into light, while from another angle it simply disappeared into thin air. From that portal a dark, crystalline creature emerged. The alien pleaded for our help. It told us of a group of beings they called "Humans", beasts that took on the forms of other species but were defined by being much more powerful than you could anticipate. To accomplish the task the alien granted us the power to create portals at will. Since then many of us have split up across the unknown land, to complete the mission. I haven't seen any of my kind since then, however I'm sure that they are fine.

While I have been here I have analyzed multiple "Settlements" now, watching while concealed in this "Forest". These "Settlements" are also very odd. There's a few creatures that I have seen roam around wherever they want, much like how we do. However these creatures do not seem to be capable of higher intelligence, communicating to each other with simple growls and the like. The higher intelligence inhabitants seem to be rooted in where they live, constructing immovable buildings to mark their territory. I fail to understand why they do this, if a great thunder cloud drifts away you would want to follow it. Nevertheless, the "Settlements" that I studied don't seem to contain any "Humans". The foreign creature told us that "Humans" usually first appear falling from the sky or washed up on a "Beach", either way they fall unconscious for a decent amount of time. Otherwise they are normally found within those "Settlements", of which I had no luck so far.

Wandering through the "Forest" I eventually stumbled into a spot where the "Trees" parted and the unfamiliar blue sky showed itself, however slightly darker this time. I grew excited for a moment, before coming to the realization that it was only what these inhabitants call "Night". There wasn't even a single cloud nearby to reassure my hope of a decent lightning storm. I was about to mark another day fruitless but then something bright flashed in the corner of my vision. I looked back up, and although hard to see, the light faded to reveal a small figure in the distance. This had to be it. I hastily ran toward where the figure would land. Electricity surged through my cables as I took each step. "Trees" gave way to "Grass", which was quickly replaced by "Sand". Normally I would hate this "Sand", it's coarse and rough and somehow messes up with my electrical abilities, but at this moment I didn't care, all that mattered was that at the end of the "Beach" lay the figure. I dashed over to it, almost overlooking the "Krabby" that scrambled to the rocks, blowing "Bubbles" towards the ocean without a care in the world.

The figure laid barely past the tide, out cold. It was covered in orange and cream scales with three claws on the ends of its appendages, apart from its tail. Instead a small, wavering flame flickered at the tip of it, faintly illuminating the surroundings. I knew what I had to do. I threw my limbs to the ground, gathering my energy. The "Sand" grew increasingly irritating, but I tried to power through it. The area slowly brightened as electricity flowed to my head, causing the "Krabby" to scuttle back behind the rocks. I removed two of my cables from the sand and lifted high into the air as I redirected my power to my claws, sparks crackled between the metal. And then I brought them down onto the reptile.

Vicious bolts flew off as I discharged my electricity. The beach burst into a bright light, the flame almost completely drowned in it. The beast's eyes jolted open for a second and the tail flame flickered erratically, before the body turned limp and the flame snuffed out. And then the light dissipated, the darkness creeping back in. Suddenly an orb of light enveloped the reptile. It hovered over the "Sand" for a moment, before shooting off back into the sky. I let off a sigh, letting my cables fall to the sand, but my work was not complete yet. Necrozma has told us that sometimes multiple humans can arrive in a world. I started to trudge back to the "Forest".

As I dragged my wires across the "Sand", a thought slowly sunk into my head, "You just murdered someone". I ignored it at first, continuing to lumber towards the "Grass". Then the thought came back, harder than before. My cables stopped moving. No, that wasn't right… right? The thought came back again and again, stronger and more reinforced than the last. I looked back to where the reptile used to be. B-but it was just some beast, surely? And then it hit me. I had been tricked. We all had been deceived by that one invader. I stood there in disbelief. How could this have happened?! How we were so foolish to fall for such a trap. Suddenly I found myself with a new mission. I directed my energy towards the space beside me. After a bit of effort I managed to form the tunnel of light. "I have to set things right" I murmured as I entered the portal.
