Chapter 1- A Change of Fate

"Let's go this way!"Katsuki Bakugo ordered his followers as they ventured in the forest followed by a 7-year old Izuku Midoriya. It had been 3 years since he was diagnosed quirkless and three years when he was constantly bullied by his peer groups. His biggest bully being his own best friend Katsuki who he still calls "Kacchan."

Currently, the group of four are exploring the forest located near the neighborhood. Their little expedition was fueled with a goal of finding something "cool" or a villain hideout so they can defeat them and impress their parents, the police, and the heroes they always glorified. An immature and reckless goal, but that's what children these days are about isn't it?

"Kacchan, wait up!" Izuku called out from behind the group, running as fast as his feet could carry him. "Don't follow me, Deku. You'll only slow me down from finding a villain and kicking his butt!" He replied with a yell as sparks flew came from his hands and an explosion sent the ash blond rocketing into the foliage of the forest. His two followers used their quirks to follow suite, one with large red wings and the other using his long fingers to grab onto a branch and swing away. Yet a again Izuku's lack of a quirk gets him left behind both figuratively and literally as the trio disappeared further into the forest.

Izuku halted in his pursue as he was out of breath from all the running. The sounds of explosions slowly fading into the distance as he caught his breath and wiped the sweat off of his forehead. His left hand resting on a tree and his right on his knees as he panted. After a minute of catching his breath, the little wannabe hero stumbled onto his feet pushing foliage out of his path as he continued to look for his friends.

A noise came from the distance which sounded like someone falling on the dirt, if the scream that followed was anything to go by. Izuku rushed to where the scream came from.

He stopped in front of a small cliff edge where he spotted a patch of white hair at the bottom. The person was a young girl who looked to be around his age laying on the ground holding her foot. The girl spotted Izuku from where she was. Her eyes locking onto his before he spoke.

"Are you hurt? Do you need help getting out of there? I heard a scream and followed it here."

The girl didn't respond, a bit uncomfortable that a stranger was talking to her and that her foot was hurting. Izuku looked for a way down and saw a path that lead directly to the pit below.

"I'm coming down, wait for me there."

It took a minute for the green haired boy to get down. When he did, he finally got a look good of the girl. She had long snow-white hair that flowed freely down her back, pink eyes, fair almost pale skin. She was wearing a white blouse, a pink headband that matched her eyes, a red skirt, and red rain boots.

Izuku extended his left hand to her which she took.

"Come on. Let me help you up." A moment of contemplative silence passed between them.

"Why are you helping me?" She finally spoke. "I didn't say I needed it."

"You're hurt and looked liked you needed help. I think that's enough reason for me to lend you a hand." Izuku smiled as he responded with passion in his voice. "That's what a hero would do! And I want to be one when I grow up." His face was beaming with admiration and determination.

The girl got to her feet with the help of the green haired boy wincing slightly when pain shot up her foot where she hurt herself from the small. Izuku was quick to notice this and slung her right arm around his shoulder as he proceeded to lead them towards the path out.

"I'm Izuku Midoriya by the way."

"Azuki, Azuki Mayuki." She replied in a softer voice. The two made it out of the pit and headed towards the direction of Azuki's home just within the forest. They trekked the path while getting to know each other better.

They arrived right in front of her house just outside the forest. Her parents were relieved that she was alright and thanked the young boy for aiding their daughter.

"Thank you young man for helping our little girl, we are in you're debt." Azuki's father stated while holding on to both of Izuku's shoulders. He was tall and had bright white hair, sky blue eyes and a well chiseled face.

"Don't mention it s-sir, I only did what anybody would do." The boy stuttered slightly feeling a little small in front of the tall man who was on his knee to get to his level.

"Nonsense, how about we treat you to a meal? Take it as a sign of thanks." The greenette blushed lightly at the offer feeling a bit overwhelmed at how kind and forward this man was being. A rare situation a quirkless person like him to be in.

He took a moment to think of a response not wanting to be rude to impose on them and to deny the request. It was then that he noticed how low the sun had gotten; his surroundings were now a colored with a warm orange hue. It was getting late and his mom would probably get worried if he did not return with his group. After a moment of silence, he finally made a decision.

"I would love to but I wouldn't want to impose and it's late now. I have to go and find my friends and go home." Izuku responded in a shy manner. The man seemed to understand but frowned slightly.

"Well stay safe and be careful, you never know what's in these woods. Again, thank you for coming here and returning my daughter safely. Feel free to drop by again, you and her seem like you would be a good friend for her." He said with a warm smile. Izuku blushed once more to the kind act towards him. He looked over to the man's side and saw Azuki on the porch. She smiled at him, a genuine, friendly, inviting smile.

"Y-yes! I-I'll try to visit again." The man nodded at him and walked towards the entrance of his home.

Azuki stood up from her pot and approached Izuku. The boy was just about to leave but stopped when he saw her approaching. He turned around to say his goodbyes to the girl...not expecting the next thing about to happen. The white haired girl closed her eyes leaned forward and pecked the greenette on his left cheek. "Thank you for saving me. You're like the prince from one of the fairytales I've read about. Be sure to come back cus... you're already my hero." She said in a soft sweet voice while playing with a strand of her hair; her cheeks were covered with a light pink blush

Izuku froze, still as a statue, a statue with a tomato for a head. His face was completely red, his mouth agape, and his eyes wide open. He had never heard his heartbeat go this fast, not even when he first watched that All Might clip he loved so much. "I-I uhhh...um I- I'lldomybest!" He answered in a rushed breath. He turned around and started walking towards his destination. His head hung low, face still red sweating profusely, eyes still wide, mouth twisted into the goofiest smile as one thought lingered in his mind. 'She- she called me a hero!'...'I was kissed by a pretty girl!'...two thoughts

Present...

Izuku smiled at the memory. It was a comfort in times of despair, knowing that at least one person believed in him. The dejected quirkless boy was on his way home the most eventful and emotional day ever, probably ranked as the third worst day in his whole 13 years of life.

He had gotten into an incident with a villain with a slime mutation quirk where he almost died. That is until by some miracle, his lifelong idol and favorite hero All Might came to the rescue. After that he discovered his idol's secret about his severe injury limiting his hero work. But the most heart aching part of this day was when All Might, his idol, his inspiration, his hero...had dismissed his dream of being a hero as unrealistic simply because he didn't have a quirk.

"It's alright to dream, just be sure it's realistic." His idol's words rang in his head. Even with those words, his next actions that day spoke differently. He was rescued again by All Might after vainly attempting to free his bully and former best friend Bakugo from the very same slime villain that tried to kill him earlier that day. After a long scolding from the pro heroes, here he was taking a shorter way home as if he'd learned nothing from earlier experiences about taking quiet routes.

A slight stinging pain shot up his upper left arm. He put his right hand on it to rub the area of pain. This stinging pain was a reminder of the actual worst day of his life.

The day where his only true friend perished, the day a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Japan and out of pure bad luck, the Mayuki household was the closest to the epicenter.

He remembered crying so much after hearing that his best friend had died. He didn't know why but after that day his upper left arm had been stinging and itching at random. They had it checked on the doctors but they didn't see anything wrong with the skin, muscles, or even the bones. It was a pain he learned to live with for the past four years of his life . A constant reminder of what he lost.

Same time...

Somewhere in the city...

All Might was disappointed in himself. The number one hero had just had the most taxing day in awhile and he was the number one hero for crying out loud! He was desperately trying to find the boy he had just met and saved twice.

The boy who had no quirk, no visible qualifications to be a hero, the one who moved head first into danger before he could even think. The boy whose brave actions had inspired him to act, reminded him of what a hero is being about, risking your own safety to protect and help those who need helping.

How could he just let such hero material slip away in the crowd? Even worse, he had told him to quit his dream. A quirkless teenager of all else. He was not blind that he didn't know what majority of the quirkless population endures nowadays. Years of ostracization and ridicule lead to only terrible things. He needed to find that boy to fix things and to offer him the chance to be the hero he passionately wanted to be, to be his successor as the symbol of peace.

He sighed in defeat. He was already beyond his limit, and it was getting really late. The young boy was probably at home. All he could hope for is that the boy is stubborn enough to not listen to him and still try to be a hero. He could try again tomorrow.

Maybe he could meet him again at U.A. It was wishful thinking but there is nothing more he could do. He looked down in guilt and shame. 'Nana would be disappointed.'

Back with Izuku...

Izuku had been so lost in his own thoughts that it didn't occur to him that he was already standing in front of his apartment. He sighed sadly. It was getting dark and his mother is going to worry over him again. He loves his mother but sometimes she too could be a bit much.

He grabbed the handle of the apartment door twisting it. He hoped his mom didn't find out about the stunt he pulled earlier because he didn't know if he could handle stressing her out even more. The woman had already let herself go because of worrying over him.

'At least things can't get any worse.' He thought sadly as he closed the door behind him.

"Oh how wrong you are."
