Lucy is sitting tracing the designs on her cordial as she waits in the Stone Table room, with Kayla pacing the room.
"I know how your gut works, Kayla. Something is wrong."
"Something is always wrong, Lucy."
"You had your reasons for staying here, and Peter knows it."
"He was the only one who objected to me staying here. He probably wanted me to go so I could set the entirety of the Telmarine forces on fire. But what would that do? That wouldn't teach anyone anything, and I'm not the one that needs to be feared here."
The girls hear something, and rush outside. The army is coming in, led by Peter and Caspian.
"What happened?"
"Ask him."
"Peter."
"Me? You could have called it off. There was still time."
"No there wasn't thanks to you. If you'd kept to the plan, those soldiers might be alive right now."
"And, if you'd just stayed here like I suggested, they definitely would be!"
"You called us, remember?"
"My first mistake."
"No. Your first mistake was thinking you could lead these people."
"Hey! I am not the one who abandoned Narnia."
"No, you invaded Narnia. You have no more right to it than Miraz does! You, him, your father! Narnia's better off without the lot of you!"
Caspian yells, and they both draw their swords, pointing them at each other.
"Stop it!"
Glenstorm sets down Trumpkin, who is injured. Lucy runs up to him and gives him a drop of her cordial. He opens his eyes, his wounds are healed.
"What are you standing around for? The Telmarines will be here soon enough. Thank you, dear little friend."
Everyone thought it was best to keep Caspian and Peter separated from each other. Susan wanted to be the one to talk some sense into her brother, but Kayla suggested that she go talk to Caspian, and Kayla would talk to Peter.
"Susan, all Peter needs right now is a knock upside the head."
"Yeah, but with the way you are, Kayla, your knock upside his head may accidentally kill him."
"I can control myself. Go talk to Caspian. You're probably the only one around here who can calm him down."
Kayla headed on her way to calm down Peter, while Susan was looking for Caspian.
"Peter William Pevensie!"
"What is it now, Kayla?"
"You should know what! I told you something would happen and I am never wrong! Just because you are High King does not mean you shouldn't heed my advice!"
"Yes, I know the raid didn't go the way I wanted! No need to rub it into my face!"
"That's just it! It didn't go the way YOU wanted, not the way it needed to go, which is it shouldn't have happened in the first place! This plan was YOUR idea, and YOU persuaded Caspian to go along with it, knowing that a raid on the castle would bring more casualties than need be! What are you trying to prove?!"
"That I am still High King Peter The Magnificent!"
"Peter, you don't need to have a battle plan for the people to know that. Think about this. Were you ready to sacrifice yourself last night? Were you ready to give yourself up for the safety of Narnia? Because that's what a king is supposed to do. What happened to the humbleness you used to have? That's what the Narnians now are looking for! Our ancestors Frank and Helen, the first human monarchs of Narnia, were humble. MicheƔilin, the first queen of Terebinthia, also our ancestor, was humble. Why can't you be that now?!"
A few Telmarine workers put the final piece of the bridge into place. Miraz walks down the great hall and Sopespian places a crown on his head. He rises, and sits on the throne. They all bow. Countries from all over that part of the world, except for one, pledge their troops to fight the Narnians. Kayla had headed out to walk through the woods. She came close to the bridge at Beruna, and made sure to keep herself hidden. She listened to the troops being marched in.
"Beruna pledges its troops!"
"Galma pledges its troops!"
"Calormen pledges its troops!"
"Ettinsmoor pledges its troops!"
"Terebinthia pledges its troops!"
When she heard the name of Terebinthia, she burst into tears right then and there. The very people she had yet to rescue, she was about to fight. How could she keep herself from destroying them?
Susan had not managed to find Caspian. He wanted to be left alone. He was walking around the Stone Table room by himself, when the dwarf Nikabrik walks into the room.
"Are you so glad of that magic horn now, boy? The kings and queens have failed us. Your army is half dead. And those that aren't will be soon enough."
"What do you want? Congratulations?"
"You want your uncle's blood? So do we. You want his throne? We can get it for you. You tried one ancient power. It failed. But there is a power greater still. One that kept even Aslan at bay for nearly a hundred years."
Caspian hears a growl and draws his sword, and steps forward. A cloaked figure steps out of the shadows and starts slowly walking towards Caspian.
"Who's there?"
"I am hunger, I am thirst. I can fast a hundred years and not die. I can lie a hundred nights on the ice and not freeze. I can drink a river of blood and not burst. Show, me, your enemies!"
The creature throws off his hood, revealing he is a werewolf, and a hag approaches, looking like a fish.
"What you hate, so will we. No one hates better than us."
"And you can guarantee Miraz's death?"
"And more. Let the circle be drawn!"
The hag begins saying a chant. The werewolf draws a circle on the ground around Caspian. The hag pulls out the White Witch's wand, and sticks it into the ground. Ice grows up, covering the image of Aslan. Within the ice wall, the White Witch appears.
"Wait! This isn't what I wanted!"
"One drop of Adam's blood and you free me. Then I am yours, my king."
"No!"
The werewolf grabs Caspian's hand, and the hag cuts it. The White Witch sticks her hand out of the ice. She smiles. Caspian looks at the Witch, and then seems to stop resisting.
"Stop!"
Peter, Edmund, and Trumpkin run into the room and draw their swords. The werewolf crawls over the Stone Table and attacks. Nikabrik and Trumpkin swordfight. The hag knocks Peter's sword out of his hand. Edmund swings at the werewolf. The werewolf howls. Nikabrik stands over Trumpkin, but Lucy comes up and puts her dagger to Nikabrik's throat. He twists Lucy's arm around and throws her to the floor. Peter kicks the hag into a pillar and she falls. Edmund runs away, turns back, and hits the werewolf. Nikabrik looks at Lucy and hesitates, and then Trumpkin stabs him in the back. The witch keeps reaching towards Caspian.
"Come on!"
Peter pushes Caspian away and points his sword at the witch.
"Get away from him!"
"Peter, dear! I've missed you! Come, just one drop. You know you can't do this alone."
Peter hesitates, and then lowers his sword a little. Then the Witch groans, and the ice wall shatters. Edmund stands behind with his sword still drawn.
"I know. You had it sorted."
Peter and Caspian look up and see the carving of Aslan, that was right behind the witch's ice wall. Caspian looks over at the entrance to the room and sees Susan. She looks angrily at him and walks away, without saying a word.
