Kayla was still the first one to wake up. Thirteen hundred years had not changed that. She chose to wear a black velvet off-the-shoulder mermaid dress and a sun halo crown. Instead of heading down to the kitchens for coffee, she headed to her parents' room.

"Momma? Daddy? Can I come in?"

"Yes, baby doll."

She opened the door and looked at them with an expression that said I know this is a shock, but I just could not tell you about it.

"Did you both sleep good?"

"Yes, we did."

"What is it, Daddy? Is it my dress? It's not too revealing is it?"

"No, Kayla, it's not your dress."

"You only call me Kayla when I'm in trouble. What did I do now?"

"Nothing. We just always thought the letters you all sent us about your adventures in Narnia were just a story you made up."

"We couldn't exactly say it was true. We all feared y'alls would have had us locked up. I'm already crazy enough."

"I guess none of us could tell you that we never actually gave birth to you."

"But when we were sent away from this world, our memories were wiped clean of here. It was instead put into us that we had always been in the other world, and there was evidence to support that, such as pictures when we were born. It was basically a restart."

"Now, for us, it's as though we never existed in America, England, and Denmark."

"Don't forget Austria, Poland, and the Virgin Islands, Momma. I'm gonna go down to the kitchens to get some coffee. I never wait for anyone else to wake up, because the others always sleep in."

"What can we do?"

"Uh, I'm not exactly sure of that, but I'm sure Caspian wouldn't mind if y'alls explored the citadel until breakfast is fully ready. I think he said today is the first council meeting, but you'd have to ask him if y'alls can be in the room."

"Growing up around Brits and a Dane, and you still have that Midwestern-Southern accent."

"I don't think I'll ever lose it, Daddy."

"Well, I'm gonna go check on Momma and Bobe."

"You'll figure out where to find me."

"We will, baby doll."

When she arrived in the kitchens, Caspian was already there.

"I see I'm not the only early riser. It's about time."

"Good morning, Lady Kayla."

"Caspian, enough with the formalities. You're part of the family now."

"Sorry. I guess it's just a force of habit."

"Yeah, instead of old habits die fast, it's truthfully old habits die slow. I lived in England for eight years, surrounded by people with English accents, and my accent has not been lost. I'm pretty sure it's ingrained in my blood. And now that I'm back in this world again, I probably still won't lose it."

"How are your parents?"

"I actually just came from their room. I guess you could say they're in a state of shock, but then again they're not surprised. And none of the others have woken up that I know of. Strange for Susan, though, cause she had this phase when she was back and forth between being a morning person and sleeping in. It's a wonder she isn't always tired during the day."

As Ivar was walking into the kitchens, he could hear Kayla and Caspian's voices, and he began to feel a little bit of jealousy.

"Good morning, you two."

"Ivar."

"Good morning, Lord Ivar."

"Caspian, my parents basically did adopt you yesterday. We're brothers now. No need for formalities."

"That's what I keep telling him. Here's the thing, Caspian. See us as humans, not royalty. Because first and foremost, that's what we are."

"Well, not you and the Pevensies, Kayla. You all have some mythical creatures as ancestors."

"Okay, yes, we do have Elves, Dwarves, a dragon, a bear, a snake, a vampire, two dark lords, and a lion as our ancestors, but that's beside the point. I'm gonna go dress the girls. Leave it to me to put Lucy and Susan in something that might outshine me."

That left Caspian and Ivar to talk. Their first brother talk. Ivar's eyes could not help but follow Kayla out of the kitchens.

"I see the way you look at her."

Ivar had spaced out until he heard those words, and he looked back at Caspian with a shocked expression.

"You know?"

"I would say it's plain as day. Do the others know?"

"Not our parents, that's for sure. There has always been this tension between Kayla and myself, like this love-hate tension. We had always been annoyed with each other at some point, but at the same time, we would gladly die for each other. But we all see the way you act around Susan. She has never had a more respectful suitor."

"But, I am not even her suitor."

"Not yet, but you have my vote. That woman has been my sister in bond for like twenty-three years. Eight years in the other world, and another fifteen in this world. Whatever you do, DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT call Susan, Lucy, and Kayla girls, because they would each slit your throat before you could blink."

"I just hope none of the lords call them girls."

"Especially Kayla. You do not want to be in the room when she gets angry, because I promise you, all hell will absolutely break loose. The other two can be just as bad. I think it's the Terebinthian blood, and the fact that they are the daughter and granddaughters of Aslan."

Susan was still asleep when Kayla walked into her room, so Kayla pushed open the curtains in her room, and then the bed curtains. Her room was facing the south, just like it was in the Golden Age.

"Wake up time, Susan!"

"Ugh! Let me sleep!"

"Sorry, honey bunch, but I can do that. We have a council meeting today, and we all have to be there."

Kayla walked over to Susan's wardrobe, which was stocked with Telmarine dresses.

"They call these things dresses? Not even Coco Chanel would design something like these. Anti-Semitist whore!"

"Easy, Kayla. We can't all wear the revealing and flashy dresses that you do. Like the red floral and feather one you wore at the banquet with Rabadash at his first visit to Cair Paravel."

"You remember that dress? I'm flattered."

"It's hard for anyone to forget it."

"Here, you like to be simple when it comes to dresses. This velvet emerald green one will suit you. I'm gonna go dress Lucy. Caspian and Ivar are already up and at 'em."

"I'll go wake up Peter and Edmund."

"That's a scary task. You sure you don't want me to do it?"

Susan threw a pillow at Kayla as she headed out of the room, but she missed Kayla by a hair.

"You need to work on your aim, Susan!"

It felt good to everyone to finally be a family again without wondering if they would ever go back home.
