Dimensional Hoppers

Chapter 6

There was a lot of noise coming through the guest bedroom, normally you'd be scared as to what's going on and all. But even I have to admit I'm not all that normal. Really think about it, who lets two guys, who you only met today, into your friend's place to stay. Said friend also agrees with this and you stop and consider that yes, they're just as abnormal as you are.

Before you ask, yes, we're the type of people to do this. Although what's really crossing my mind right now is exactly what is happening in there. I think I heard a pissed Derek, then a happy Derek, then a happy Chester sometime later?

It's all really confusing honestly, and I'd probably save myself the trouble by just checking, but… I don't want to risk walking in on something.

Plus there's the chance that all that noise is what Chester said he would show me later. At that point, I don't want to spoil the surprise, can't help but be tempted though. Although there's also the chance it's some alien mumbo jumbo, in that case, I'm absolutely confused and terrified.

Honestly, why do I keep getting myself into these weird situations? Really should listen to Histoire once in a while, she's a lot less crazy, in her own way.

Compa stole my attention away from my thoughts. "Hey, Iffy? What's going on with Dery and Chesty? They're making a lot of noise."

How in the world would I know?

I shifted myself in my chair to look back at Compa. "Well, I'd guess some alien stuff, Chester said he would show me something when he was ready," I said with a slight chuckle.

Compa tilted her head. "Alien stuff?"

She continued immediately after with wide eyes. "Iffy!? Did you bring aliens into my apartment!? The Iffy I know wouldn't do this!"

Almost as quickly she took a thinking pose piecing together her own story. "They must have brainwashed you! Don't worry Iffy, I'll defeat both of them and fix your ouchies in your head!"

It all happened so quickly that I kinda just froze there dumbfounded. "Uh…"

Compa took on a steely expression and started marching towards the guest bedroom pulling a syringe out of… somewhere. "I'll go defeat them for you Iffy! Just you wait!"

I quickly unfroze myself and ran after Compa. "Hey! Wait for a second Compa! Don't jump to conclusions so quickly! I'm not brainwashed!"

Compa wasn't deterred in the slightest and keep on moving until she reached the door, ready to open it. "That's what a brainwashed person would say! Don't worry Iffy, I'll take care of this real quick! My own Compa special!"

This just got out of hand really quick, didn't it? Well shit.

It's been some time since we started meditating, I suggested it as an exercise to actually control the energy inside of us. Of course, Derek was seriously against this, I can't blame him, I don't really like meditating either. But it's probably the best way to find control in our energy, since trying to use anger to control energy is probably impossible.

So next best thing? Clear the mind and calmly make a ball of energy, that's our first goal.

I heard a deep groan from the front of me. "Ugh, this is seriously fucking hard to do you know?"

I shared his pain. "You think I'm having any better luck with this? It's not exactly a scientist's specialty to be able to just, clear the mind."

I took a deep breath before continuing. "Plus, it's only been 5 minutes, have patience alright?"

Reluctantly Derek complied. "Fine."

I think I was close to getting it down, maybe another 5 minutes and I'd have a light literally made out of 'nothing' in front of me. Although I wasn't exaggerating on how hard this was to do. Just bringing out your energy and controlling it are two very different things. Bringing it out like an aura is easy since it's like popping open a bottle of pop.

Compared to control, it's not as simple as open the pop and direct the flow to one place. Since once you open the pop it will always go everywhere, so what do you do? Well, that's what I just figured out, apparently you can't fight against the stream.

Sure you can lower or raise the output of the stream but you can't forcefully direct it, so I've decided just to let the stream go beyond a part of my body.

In simpler terms, if I raise my output to the max, an aura will come out of my body since my energy is leaking outside of it. So what I do is like opening a pipe in a part of my body, and letting more leak out in that certain direction.

What should happen is energy appearing as some sort of ball of plasma, increasing in size in a ball shape, then when I close the connection it should stop growing. Hopefully, I'll be able to still control the energy when it's outside my body or this would be a bust.

So, I started on my theory of sorts. First letting out about 50 percent of my ki, then once it spread throughout my body, I started on the second part. Letting the ki escape from my hand I was still able to feel the ki, and for some reason, I could actually control it.

It must have to do something with the medium the ki is travelling through, air is probably an easier place to control ki than something solid, like my body. When I felt like it was enough ki though, I stopped more from escaping.

Before I could open my eyes, Derek saw the results first. "Whoa, I think you fucking nailed it."

I opened my eyes to look at my own handy work and I was pleased with the results. First of all, it looks to be a sphere about the size of my hand, shining brightly like actual plasma. I had it in between my two hands and decided to try and move it around. Surprisingly it was like night and day when trying to control it in my body.

It felt incredibly light, allowing me to zip it around my hands quite fast. It was precise too, like an extra muscle that my brain always knew how to control. Once I was done zipping it around I took a second to admire and feel it out.

One thing I didn't mention was that ki itself had a beat of life to it, like a heartbeat. Surprisingly it matched my own heartbeat, it was like my heart was the pump to all of this ki in the first place. This is probably true at this point considering all things. I felt bad calling it a thing, it felt alive. What with its heat and own heartbeat, I guess you could literally call this energy, me.

I didn't really know how to recall it or make it disappear though, so I just decided to let go of my control of it. Luckily that worked, since when I did that it just vanished from existence. It took Derek a minute to get himself together.

Once he did, Derek shook his head in disbelief. "Wow, that shit looked really cool you know? I was getting kinda stumped there and saw you concentrating real hard."

I chuckled a little. "Did my face look funny?" I shook my head. "You know what never mind, let me take a slight breather, that kinda took a bit out of me."

Derek smirked. "Tired huh?"

I smirked back. "No, just feels like I haven't taken a breath in a while."

Derek chuckled at my response. "Well, you should feel like that, you were playing with your little ball there for quite a while."

I took one last breath before continuing. "I guess so, gotta be careful about this ki stuff, use it the wrong way and enough you could either kill yourself or kill the whole planet."

Derek went a little wide-eyed at that. "Oh, that doesn't sound fucking horrifying at all."

I sighed. "Well it probably won't happen, if we train ourselves right," I scrunched my eyes. "Speaking of which, I'm guessing you want to know how I did it huh?"

I took Derek's nod as a yes and explained as best as I could to him on controlling ki. It took a while but within some 15 odd minutes, 5 more than me, he was able to get a ball of ki floating in between his hands. Before telling him that he'd done it I wanted to test something.

In the show, the characters were able to feel the energy around them. As of right now, I could only really feel my own ki and literally nothing else.

I'm not exactly sure how I'm meant to feel it, but with a ball of ki that big I guess I could catch on quick. So, I tried many things, like using a thin line of ki to feel out his ball of ki.

That didn't work, and honestly, I think it confused Derek based on his closed-eyed expression. So I tried something else, lets first ask, how do I see my own ki anyway?

Well, it's weird to say, but it's like a sense that my own mind has, that I didn't notice before. It's like using your own mind as an eye of its own and looking around your own body with it.

It sounds weird and honestly is weird to me right now to use. But it does work, so instead of looking down towards my own body, why don't we look somewhere else? It wasn't that easy moving the imaginary eye, since this whole time I'd just been opening and closing it.

It's also kinda weird calling it an eye since I can also feel ki with it. This makes sense in a way, all senses really are just electricity, so there isn't all that much of a difference between them. Anyways, moving the 'eye' was difficult, like trying to lift a car difficult, but I was able to do it.

Let me tell you, it's like discovering a whole new solar system, after already discovering a whole new world. I couldn't see far with this but it was still a lot to take in.

Looking at Derek specifically, I could 'see' his energy, it was different from mine, somehow it felt different. Looking at my own ki I felt like it was me. But looking at Derek's it was like mine as it felt like Derek, but it was also weird as I felt his emotions.

I already understood Derek pretty well as a person, rash, wild, bold and lazy at times. When feeling his energy though, it was like I could feel these qualities, it was seriously weird but amazing at the same time. He felt just as alive as me too, booming with heat and his energy also had a heartbeat of its own.

Right now feeling him out, it felt like he was frustrated, probably waiting for my response to his own ki ball. I decided to stop with what is technically ki sense and coughed into my hand.

Derek suddenly jumped a little with a slight frown. "So? Is it there or not? I don't want to look, only to break my concentration here."

I chuckled a bit. "Yea, you can open your eyes, and remember if you want to make it disappear just let go of your control of it."

Derek nodded before opening his eyes and admiring his handy work. "Whoa, it doesn't get less cool the second time around, this is fucking sick Chester." Derek started laughing while zipping his ki ball all over the place.

I nodded in satisfaction. "Good, now honestly we could continue with this but I think we should rest ourselves a little, god knows how tired I am." Or is it goddess? Still can't figure that out.

Derek sighed. "Yea, I didn't believe you at first, but man it is kinda fucking tiring isn't it?"

I nodded. "Yep, but don't worry, we'll probably get better at it," I paused before remembering something. "Oh yea, while you were doing that I think I figured out ki sense. It might be the key to reading people's minds from what I experienced."

Derek rose a brow in confusion. "You know, I felt like I was done with that ball a while ago, were you taking your sweet time while I was fucking struggling?"

I looked away in slight shame. "Yea, guilty as charged, sorry about that."

Derek sighed. "Oh well, just remember to teach me how to do that ki sense shit too, don't want to be left in the dust."

I stood up, stretching myself from sitting for so long. "Will do, also make sure to be careful with that ki ball, I think it might explode if it comes into contact with anything," I scratched my neck a bit. "Or maybe ki blast is the better term."

Derek had the same idea and stood up as well. "Yea, I think that sounds way cooler. Also is it just me or is it getting fucking hot?"

I chuckled. "Well it's getting a little warm, must be your lab coat, you never really took it off."

Derek looked himself over after stretching a bit. "Yea, your right, man can't believe I'm saying this shit, but you're lucky that yours got destroyed."

I shook my head. "Well might not agree with you there, but I guess that's how lazy people think nowadays huh?" Derek nodded and I took a second to look around the room. "Hey wait, you still have your blast floating around."

Derek looked up and nodded. "Oh, yea, sorry I guess I was on autopilot with that one, its seriously easy to control in the air, just like you said."

While Derek was trying to get his ki blast under control, with some really funny-looking hand movements, I noticed something. The thing with being a saiyan is that you feel vibrations before you hear them, kind of a weird thing to experience.

But anyway, it sounded like IF and Compa were shouting in the other room. "Hey Derek, you hear that right?"

Derek was still trying to figure out how to let go of his ki blast when he answered. "Uh, kinda busy here, give me a second."

I grumbled a little before going to the door to hear better. "Ugh, it really sounds like a storm in there, something about aliens," I took a second to digest that. "Wait a second…"

Before I could continue I clearly heard Compa scream 'my own Compa special' and the door slamming against my face. I didn't really expect that so I was sent flying to the other side of the room. Luckily I recovered quickly and got to my feet rubbing the side of my head.

As I looked for the cause of it I saw Compa standing tall with… a giant syringe, in what I could only assume to be a battle-ready position. "Alrighty, you two better undo your mind control on Iffy! Or I'm going to have to do what my grandpa called, 'a real beating'!"

Iffy appeared just after looking surprisingly panicked. "Compa! I swear I'm not being mind-controlled alright? Just cause I said alien stuff, doesn't mean it's like in those horror movies you watched!"

I looked on dumbfounded at what was being said, but also still marvelling at the size of that syringe. Seriously, how much magic is needed to hold something like that? Where was she even keeping it anyway?! I'm sure I didn't see it anywhere in the living room or kitchen, maybe it was in her room?

While I was still dumbfounded, Derek stepped in. "Fucking hell!" Apparently being scared shitless was enough for him to stop controlling his ki blast making it disappear. Well, not before it zipped towards Compa and IF's faces.

IF seemed to react first ducking. "What the hell!?"

Compa froze in fear, but luckily for her, it disappeared before it hit her face.

IF got out of her crouch and looked on dumbfounded. "What the hell was that?!"

Compa finally responded, clutching her syringe, seeming to have calmed down from the fear. "Iffy… my life just flashed before my eyes… I think I saw grandpa… "

Finally catching up to the situation myself, IF and Compa's eyes landed on me. "Um… surprise?"

Derek caught up as well to what was going on. "Holy shit Compa, please don't ever do that again, almost gave me a heart attack!"

Compa looked a little startled. "O-oh sorry, I'll try to be more gentle next time… "

IF's eyes twitched at Compa's apology. "Weren't you hell-bent on beating them up a second ago?"

Compa's eyes lit up. "Oh! Yessy Iffy, your right," she coughed into her hand. "Alright, you two alien baddies are going down!" Compa yet again took her stance with the huge ass syringe.

IF face-palmed at the development. "Seriously?"

I took it upon myself to try and calm her down again. "Um, exactly why do you want to take us down Compa?"

Compa took a second to answer. "It's because your mind controlling Iffy! I know cause I saw it in the movies!"

It was Derek's turn to face-palm, looks like he's had enough of this.

I shook my head trying to keep myself from laughing. "L-look, I don't know, pffft, what kind of aliens you think we are," I took a second to hold back another laugh. "But we're literally just monkey people alright? The worst thing we could do is devour your whole banana population."

Compa and the others looked at me dumbfounded. Though Derek was the first one to respond. "Really? I'm not sure if I want to find that racist or not."

IF had a different reaction, she just started laughing. Compa still seemed a little confused, until I unwrapped my tail.

Derek did the same although he took his lab coat off too. "Ah, it was really getting hot in here, but yea, 'monkey people', although I heard that it's officially Saiyans."

Instead of just looking, Compa seemed to be a hands-on person. By that I mean, she immediately went up and touched Derek's tail. "W-whoa, hey watch what you're fucking touching!" Immediately he pulled his tail away from her, looking a little weak at the same time.

Compa was startled. "Oh sorry!"

Almost as quickly she looked at my tail. "Oh no you don't, I didn't want to say this but touching our tails is a no-go alright?"

Compa seemed to droop a bit but kept a neutral face. "Bummer, but wowy! Actual tails! That can't be human at all, and it doesn't seem like you're monsters either… Yepy, you guys really are alien monkeys!"

"Saiyans." I corrected.

Compa blushed a little. "R-right, Saiyans."

"Hey, how come she can say that but not our names? What kind of-" Derek started to ramble on for himself.

Meanwhile IF seemed eager to ask something. "Something on your mind IF?"

She took a second before answering. "Yea, what was that blur of blue we saw before?"

I sighed. "I think it would be better if Derek told you since he almost hit Compa with it." I turned to Derek picking up my volume a bit. "Hey! Derek!"

Derek came out of his ramblings of confusion and equally looked confused in my direction. "Whacha want?"

I pointed at Compa before continuing. "Tell them about the ki blast, you know, the one you almost hit Compa with."

IF and Compa rose a brow at the word ki blast.

Instead of being annoyed, Derek lit up. "Wait, can I really talk about it now? You're not going to yeet me six feet under again right?"

I shook my head no and Derek lit up even more. "Aw hell yes."

He took a second to compose himself. "Alright before we start my awesome magician's show, we should go to the living room."

Compa and IF looked confused but shrugged it off, deciding to follow Derek, I followed shortly after closing the door behind me. We all took our seats except Derek who stood tall in front of the TV. If your wondering, I was mentally preparing myself not to laugh.

After a minute of silence, Derek seemed ready and turned around. "Alright my audience, I am Houdini and today I'll be showing you, the energy of life!"

Compa was on the edge of her seat, looking way too excited for this. "Oh, Iffy! He's going to do a magic trick! Wooo! Go Dery!"

IF just laughed while clapping a little at Derek's performance. Though I did see that she was trying to hide her own excitement.

Derek bowed. "Thank you, thank you!" Derek paused fixing up his shirt and putting out his hand. "For my first trick, I'll be making a ball, appear of out thin air!"

I rolled my eyes at this, he didn't have to make this so dramatic, honestly.

Derek got into position with both palms towards the audience. "Now, feast your eyes on this!"

Quickly and suddenly he made his hands into a fist then opened them revealing a small blast, he let it grow quickly to not ruin the moment, which I found nice.

It's still funny to me though since he's actually practiced this a lot in his past time. His reasons were simple, once he figured out how to teleport things he'd be a magician as a hobby and quote 'be the best Houdini in the world'.

Suffice to say, I've been his witness to this more times than I can count, every time it's failed of course since he couldn't get the teleportation to work.

Getting back to the performance, I saw IF's and Compa's reactions to it.

Surprisingly, IF was the one most interested. Honestly, she looked like a kid finding candy for the first time. "Whoaaa, is this what Derek wanted to show me? It looks so… beautiful."

Compa seemed entranced by the ki blast too, though she kept her distance. "Wowy, it looks like a little night light."

I felt bad for Derek right now, but I really couldn't stop myself from laughing.

Currently, Derek's faced was a little flustered at how close IF was. "H-hey, u-uh Windwalker? The audience should stay in t-their seats."

Don't get this wrong, it's not like he's embarrassed cause it's IF this close to him. No, the funny thing is it's because a girl is this close to him. I guess those other times he didn't really notice this, since no offence, but IF kinda looks like a kid at times.

I couldn't really hold my laugh anymore and let it out.

Derek's face twisted into anger when he heard it, snapping his head towards me he stuttered. "S-shut the fuck up Chester, it's not my fault that I'm like this alright?!"

IF was confused for a second before realizing her mistake and quickly getting back to her seat and hiding her face. "Sorry about that… "

It took a minute for Derek to calm down. "Ahem, alright, this show kinda lost its flavour there… "

IF looked up from her slouched position with a frown. "Aw, you're not going to show us more?"

Another blush came to Derek's face. "A-ah, no. Just that I won't be as dramatic about all this." Derek looked around frantically landing his eyes on me. "Y-yea, how about Chester finishes this off for us?"

I sighed. "Fine."

Getting up from my seat I stood beside Derek. "Alright, as you two know what Derek is showing right now is a ball of what we call life energy."

Making my own ki blast I held it out in front of my hands for them to see clearly. "To keep it simple, it's like your magic IF, except well, not really at the same time."

IF was confused by my words. "What do you mean by that?"

I thought about it for a second before having an idea. "I'll need a minute to answer, how about you two play with this ki blast for a second to keep yourselves occupied."

IF frowned. "Hey, don't treat us like kids, we can wait you know."

Compa chuckled awkwardly. "I don't know Iffy, you can kinda be childish at the weirdest of times."

IF just grumbled and took the ki blast floating in front of her and started to examine it. I closed my eyes.

With that little time I bought myself, I worked quickly and used my ki sense. It was a long shot but I felt like this could work. Looking towards IF and Compa I was surprised at the results. Yes, they did in fact have ki, but I don't think they could use it ever. The reason being, their so-called stream of ki is directly flowing into the head, and it seems constant too.

What's weird about this is that the head itself seems to be producing a stream of a gassy substance. It was the same colour as her ki except that ki wasn't gassy, the best I could describe ki as is that it is a plasma. This stream seemed to be constantly going throughout her body too if what I'm thinking is right then I have a sort of idea of what's going on.

Though Compa's what I assume to be magic is different, as it looks like a solid instead. If what I'm thinking is correct then I think I have a sort of answer.

I opened my eyes and saw the weirdest sight. Weirdly enough Derek joined in on the fun and gave his ki blast to Compa. Both Compa and IF were playing a weird game with the blasts, tossing them around and whatnot.

I coughed in my hand to get their attention. "I think I've got a better answer."

IF and Compa heard and listened closely to what I had to say next. Pressures on I guess.

I closed my eyes, thinking for a second before explaining. "I have a way of sensing this life energy and from what I observed I've found out some things about it." I started pacing around. "Firstly, life energy is in every living thing, plants, animals and so on."

Opening my eyes I kept my sight on them. "You two also have this life energy, just like us. But don't get your hopes up, I don't think you'll be able to use it."

Compa tilted her head. "Why's that Chesty?"

Suppressing a laugh I continued. "Well, it seems that your life energy or ki for short, is fueling your magic production." I nodded to myself. "Yea, almost like it's hardwired to do that."

IF seemed to catch on quickly on my deduction. "So wait, you just said 'hardwired', doesn't that mean you two can't use magic?"

I nodded. "Yea, it probably explains why no one from any other world can use it either, somehow being native to gameindustri rewires your whole ki."

I shook my head trying to get back on track. "Anyway, it's that simple, since you two have been playing with our energy, you could probably say that's it's alive in a way right?"

IF nodded. "Yea, it's… kinda weird If I'm going, to be honest," IF brought out her fire magic before continuing. "My magic has this heat, makes it really feel like fire right? But your… ki you called it, not only has heat, but it has a heartbeat."

Compa agreed with IF. "Yessy, it's like I'm holding a tiny baby Dery in my hands!"

Derek vaulted to the floor twice today, a new record.

I chuckled a little. "I guess you could say that energy right there is technically our being in spiritual form."

IF's eyes sparkled a bit. "That's pretty cool," IF then struck a frown. "Sucks you two can't use magic though and sucks for us that we can't use this either."

I nodded at that. "Yea, it's also pretty destructive."

IF frowned. "Seems harmless to me."

I scratched the back of my head. "About that, there was a chance it would explode on contact with anything. But I guess it needs my intent for it to happen in the first place."

IF quickly threw the ki blast away. "This thing explodes!? Why didn't you tell me this sooner!?"

Derek got up from his second face vault today and explained for me. "Cause it was part of an experiment, you'd probably be fine, that ball is way smaller than the first one he made."

"Still!" IF said

I sighed. "I'm too tired to continue about this stuff, we've had a lot happening today. I think Derek can back me up on this one."

Derek nodded, and so did IF. "Yea, I'm not sure what you two completely went through, but today was still pretty jam-packed for me."

Compa jumped back in the conversation with an idea. "So, would you two like to watch a movie before we all go to bed? It is the perfect time for movies." Compa gave a wide smile. "Oh! Maybe we should watch a hor-"

IF cut in quickly. "No."

Compa shrugged. "Come on IF, horror movies aren't that bad."

"No means no, never, not in a million years!" IF said quickly

Derek smirked. "Aw, is the Windwalker of Gameindustri afraid of a little movie?"

IF smirked as well. "Says the guy who's afraid of a little close contact." As she said this she got within spitting distance to Derek, making both of their faces flush a little.

Derek tried to keep his cool. "I'm n-not afraid of any contact, but I can't say the same about your fear of horror movies."

IF tried to keep her cool as well. "O-oh yeah?" IF turned around giving Derek some breathing room. "Compa! Get the scariest movie you've got!"

Compa stood there shocked, then quickly got her act together. "O-oh sure Iffy! Scariest movie coming right up! I'll get the popcorn."

I sighed at the situation both of them put themselves in. Well, at least it will be entertaining to watch.
