Hizashi Yamada vs. the zombie apocalypse

Chapter four: Well you can pick your friends but you can't pick your co-workers

Everyone in the room where the cage holding zombie Kinoko was being kept looked surprised to see Hizashi's friend Luci show up. But then again Luci turned out to be short for Lucifer, aka Satan, who appeared in a circular portal of fire with an upside down pentagram in it. Also, to the curiosity of everyone, Luci appeared in the form of Izuku, one of the many first year hero course students who got turned into a zombie and subsequently killed.

Pointing at Luci, Toshinori asked, "Umm, why... why do you look like Young Midoriya?"

"Oh, I was able to tell that you all as a group overall would least suspect the Midoriya boy of being evil in any way," Luci explained, "So I took the form of him. For the irony factor."

Aizawa rolled his eyes. "Of course. Of course Hizashi is somehow friends with the devil himself."

"Wait until you meet some of my other friends," Hizashi remarked, a hint of sly self-amusement in his tone. This prompted Aizawa to smack him in the back of the head.

Letting out a whistle, Sekijiro said, "Hoo boy, this actually sort of makes me glad Shiozaki isn't around anymore. Imagine if she were still alive and saw Lucifer standing right here. She would of freaked out big time and tried to purify everything or whatever it was she would of done."

Luci arched a wry eyebrow. "...Ah yes, Ibara Shiozaki," Luci said dryly, "One of the big man's fan girls. I'm familiar enough with her since she occasionally condemned my name." Gently shaking his head, Luci went on after turning to face Hizashi, "But that's not here nor there. Tell me, why is it that you had called me here, my good chum?"

As he rubbed the back of his head, Hizashi said, "Well, it has to do with Kinoko, who we got in the cage here." Hizashi then directed Luci's attention to the cage that zombie Kinoko was being kept in.

"Ah yes, the mushroom girl who you had reanimated with that ritual you had performed in my name," Luci said in a casual tone, "I assume you aren't completely satisfied with how she's alive again?"

"Alive?" Hound Dog said, then went on while gesturing to zombie Kinoko, "You call this being alive?! She's a zombie!"

"Apparently this isn't the first time Hizashi performed a reanimation ritual in your name," Aizawa said in a bemused tone, "And that the first one also resulted in zombies. Tell us, why do those who are reanimated by rituals in your name not only come back as zombies, but can turn others who are still living into more zombies and so on in that fashion?"

Shrugging, Luci said, "Because it amuses me." Seeing the looks he was getting from everyone aside from Hizashi and Dark Shadow, Luci said, "Oh come on, mortals! I'm the friggin' devil! What, you expect them to return to life as perfectly normal living beings with no strings attached?"

Shrugging himself, Cementoss replied, "Well it'd be nice."

As Luci gave a 'really?' look to Cementoss, Hizashi said, "Luci, Luci, dude." When Luci turned to face him, Hizashi said, "There's actually something connected to Kinoko here that we need to ask you a few questions about."

With an indifferent expression, Luci shrugged as he said, "Alright. What's up?"

"Because Kinoko here was raised as a zombie," Sekijiro began, "The zombie plauge got to not just my other students aside from Tetsutetsu, but also to Aizawa's students aside from Kirishima." While the others weren't looking at him, Tetsutetsu looked a bit sheepish next to Kirishima and Dark Shadow.

"As such," Aizawa went on, "Most of the rest of the first year hero course here at UA had also been turned into zombies. We were wondering if there was any way to turn those who were turned into zombies back to normal."

"Preferably," Cementoss began, "Without any sort of hidden catch or whatever."

After rolling his eyes at Cementoss again, Luci replied, "Well it's a good thing that you guys had somehow captured Kinoko here, as she's the original zombie from which the zombie apocalypse you all are in danger of facing sprung up from."

The others turned to look at the cage that zombie Kinoko was being kept in, then turned to look back at Luci. "...Us capturing Kinoko was a good thing?" Kirishima said, "How so?"

"As she's the patient zero in this case," Luci began to explain, "All you guys have to do is kill her. That will undo all of the zombie apocalypse stuff, and all traces of the zombie plague or whatever you humans like to call it. It'll be as if there were never any zombies in the first place." At that revelation, some of the adults all took sucking, cringing breaths, which immediately told Luci that there was some manner of screw up. "...What's wrong now?" Luci asked dryly.

"Umm, quick question, Luci," Hizashi began, "Say some of those who were turned into zombies from the strain from patient zero Kinoko here, were killed before Kinoko here was put out of her misery. What happens to those guys?"

Giving Hizashi a mildly curious look, Luci replied, "They... remain dead. But after the patient zero zombie is killed, the remains of all zombies from that strain turn back to normal as that strain will no longer exist anywhere, so the remains of the dead will go from zombified remains to just regular old remains." The devil folded his arms over his chest, gave Hizashi a wry look. "...You killed some of those who were turned due to patient zero Kinoko's strain, didn't you?"

Gesturing to zombie Kinoko, Tetsutetsu said, "Let me put it this way, Satan. Kinoko here is the first and last zombie."

Hizashi nodded in confirmation. "It's true. I killed all of the zombified class 1-A students, even cutting off Tokoyami's head so that Dark Shadow would be able to take over piloting the body and help me with killing all of the zombified class 1-B students." Pointing to the cage that zombie Kinoko was being kept in, Hizashi added, "Present company excluded, of course."

Luci closed his eyes, pinched the space on his face between his eyes. He let out a subdued but mildly exasperated sigh. "...You see, Hizashi, it's stuff like this that should remind you to ask me for details first before you act. You could have saved all of the turned students, aside from Kinoko as she's the patient zero zombie."

"So what do we do now?" Toshinori asked.

"At this point," Luci said, "All that you mortals can do is kill Kinoko. Unless of course you actually want to let the zombie apocalypse have a second shot of occurring."

Hizashi held up his MA5C assault rifle and was about to take aim, but he stopped short when Kirishima said, "Wait, Hizashi-sensei." Looking to Kirishima, Hizashi regarded the hardening quirk user as he held out a hand and said, "...Let me do it."

"You, Kirishima?" Aizawa said in surprise, seeing one of his students volunteer to kill a zombified schoolmate.

"Kinoko actually wanted to be with me romantically," Kirishima said to everyone in the room as a whole, "Although I didn't learn that until the series of flashbacks Hizashi-sensei had to explain how Kinoko and most everyone else in 1-B and 1-A turned. She could of been my girlfriend- I could of had a girlfriend- had circumstances been different."

Looking to Hizashi, Sekijiro said, "Yeah, because someone thought that using a satanic necromancy ritual to raise Kinoko from the dead would be a good idea!"

"Which only happened because someone thought that leaving Monoma's hate-boner for Sho's students to continue on unchecked would also be a good idea!" Hizashi said back to Sekijiro.

Sighing, Kirishima said, "Just knowing that Kinoko was in love with me, and wanted to be with me romantically, was enough to heal some of the damage that my self-esteem has. She's done a lot more good for me in that regard than you guys can possibly begin to guess." Kirishima turned his attention to the cage where the zombified form of the girl who he could of been romantically involved with under other circumstances was being kept in. "...I owe it to Kinoko for what she had done, simply by loving me."

Hizashi, sensing that this was a pivotal moment for Kirishima, handed him the MA5C assault rifle. "...It's got to be a headshot, Kirishima," Hizashi said.

Taking the gun from Hizashi, Kirishima nodded before taking aim at zombie Kinoko. The undead girl no longer recognized the boy who was aiming a gun from the Halo series right at her head, didn't remember him as the boy that, when she was a living being, she had fallen in love with. Right now, she only saw him as a meal. Kirishima, with a single tear rolling down the side of his face, slowly put pressure on the trigger.

"...Thank you, Kinoko," Kirishima whispered quietly under his breath before pulling the trigger completely, blasting zombie Kinoko's head and near shredding it with bullets. Zombie Kinoko, held up by the cement pillars that bound her limbs, was now dead. With her death, her zombified body shifted and morphed, and when done Kinoko was now just a normal dead body.

With the grim job finished, Luci turned to look at Hizashi and the others. "...Well at least you all know about the patient zero factor for the next time Hizashi performs a ritual in my name to raise some dead person back to life."

"We're hoping that there won't be a next time," Aizawa said. Turning to look at Hizashi, Aizawa went on with a forceful hint in his tone, "Right, Hizashi?"

Shrugging, Hizashi said, "So I take it that's a no on trying to get Nemuri back to-"

"Don't you fucking dare, Hizashi-sensei!" Tetsutetsu snapped. Sekijiro nodded in approval of his sole remaining student snapping at Hizashi.

Turning to look at Dark Shadow who was now piloting an un-zombified body, Aizawa said, "Well what about you, Dark Shadow?"

"Well the only thing different about how I now have a body to call my own is that said body has been un-zombified," Dark Shadow said, "I'll probably stick around for future mishaps, provided that Nezu will let me given that he's the grand chief pooba of UA."

"Oh, that reminds me," Luci said, getting everyone to turn to look at him, "When the mess that was made by Nezu four-and-a-half years ago rears its ugly head for you guys to deal with, don't come crying to me."

Everyone looked surprised by what the devil had just said. "...Why?" Cementoss began, his tone understandably apprehensive and wary, "What sort of bargain did you and Nezu make with one another four-and-a-half years ago?"

"None whatsoever," Luci replied, "I have actually never done any sort of bargaining or whatever with your boss. That's why I said don't come crying to me when Nezu's mess rears its ugly head for you all to deal with." Turning to look at Hizashi, Luci said, "Are we still on for the monster truck rally next week, my good chum?"

"Assuming there's no work I have to do here in regards to stopping the zombie apocalypse," Hizashi replied. Luci gave Hizashi a nod before vanishing in a pillar of flames. Turning to look at the others in the room, Hizashi said, "Well now, I think that the hardest part is now behind us."

"Uhh, Hizashi," Aizawa began, "What about explaining to thirty-eight different families that each of them has lost a child?"

Shrugging, Hizashi said, "We'll tell everyone that it was a villain attack. We'll pin the blame on the League of Villains."

Folding his arms over his chest, Sekijiro said, "Right, like the public will believe that the League of Villains was able to infiltrate UA and kill a bunch of students."

Shrugging again, Hizashi said, "Well it wouldn't of been the first time that they were able to infiltrate UA." Turning to look at everyone else as whole, Hizashi went on, "Plus, what's more believable and less likely to start mass panic, the idea that villains broke into UA and killed a bunch of students, or the idea that a bunch of students had been turned into zombies and all had to be killed before the zombie apocalypse could spread to beyond UA grounds?"

Everyone was looking at Hizashi with varying looks, with Aizawa sighing as he said, "...Villain attack it is." Everyone in that room agreed to keep what all they knew to themselves, as no one outside was to know the truth.

...Well, one person outside of that group knew the truth.

A raven flew through the stormy night, flew into a residential area somewhere near UA. The raven landed on a windowsill, tapped the glass with its beak. A shadowed figure inside the house opened the window, held an arm out for the raven to fly to. The raven cawwed at the shadowed figure, who took a step back as if out of shock.

"...My child?" the shadowed figure said, their clearly feminine voice sounding shocked and heartbroken, "Dead?" The raven flew off of the shadowed woman's arm, landed back on the sill of the open window. The shadowed woman snarled, "And it's UA's fault. I bet Nezu is beind it. That rat bastard is responsible for what happened to me, after all."

The raven took off back into the stormy night, prompting the shadowed woman to close the window. "...I should of shared my cursed gift with my child," the shadowed woman said to herself, "That would of ensured that I wouldn't be what I now find myself to be."

Lighting flashed, revealing the shadow's woman's piercing red eyes and long pointed fangs. "A heartbroken mother."

THE END

Author's notes;

With that, the tale of Hizashi facing the zombie apocalypse can now be brought to a close. I told you this wasn't going to be a long one. But the zombie apocalypse won't be the only problem that Hizashi will have to contend with. There will be future short stories where Hizashi will contend with other events involving a mass number of a single type of monster. So keep your eyes peeled for the future installments of what I'm going to be calling the 'Hizashi Yamada vs.' series (in mostly no particular order);

Hizashi Yamada vs. the demon horde

Hizashi Yamada vs. the vampire covent

Hizashi Yamada vs. the robot uprising

Hizashi Yamada vs. the alien invasion

Hizashi Yamada vs. the dragon flight
