Hi all! This is my first Hermione & Viktor fanfic. I love the idea of the two of them together but have only found a few stories with them together, so I thought I might write my own! This is existing in a Voldemort-free world, which might make things a little silly, but we can use our imaginations!

Anyways, please enjoy and feel free to comment, rate, review, or whatever else your heart tells you. I'm not on any particular writing schedule, but I hope to get the subsequent chapters up soon!

Hermione's eyes widened dramatically as Professor Dumbledore announced the impending arrival of the visiting Beauxbaton and Durmstrang students, listening aptly as he described each magical school to the Great Hall. She knew all about their reason for coming - the Tri-Wizard tournament - and began quickly going through all of her prior knowledge of the event in her mind, remembering facts as if the books they came from were placed right in front of her. A bit lost in her mental recall, she was startled as the doors to the large room burst open. Turning quickly, she was met by a stunning group of witches and wizards dressed in silky blue robes. They strode into the hall gracefully, their feet barely touching the ground as they made their way to the head table and Professor Dumbledor. Holding up the back of the group was a large woman whom Dumbledore greeted as Madame Maxine, their headmistress.

When the students from Beauxbatons found their seats, an extension of the Ravenclaw table, the doors to the Great Hall opened once again, but this time Hermione was prepared. In walked the students from Durmstrang, clad in maroon coats and dark animal fur hats. They looked wildly formidable as the heels of their boots collided with the stone floor, their walking sticks tapping as they went along. Eyes straight ahead, they made their way to the front of the room. Hermione swiveled in her chair to watch them pass and caught the wandering eye of the last student in the group. She blushed profusely with the embarrassment that comes from being acknowledged by a member of the opposite sex, and the boy gave her a small, kind smile. She quickly looked down at her hands to hide her continuously darkening cheeks when she heard Ron whisper to Harry, "That's him, that's Victor Krum! The Bulgarian seeker!" She watched as the two boys stared in awe at the one called Viktor, realizing it was the one she had connected with only moments before. As she scanned the room, Hermione noticed that almost every boy was ogling him.

"You know him?" Hermione whispered to Ron as Dumbledore welcomed the visiting students.

"Know him?!" He responded quickly. "Know him?! Hermione, that's only the greatest seeker in the world, Viktor Krum! Oh he was bloody brilliant at the World Cup Hermione, don't you remember?" Hermione did remember, actually, the twins having teased Ron all night for being quite obsessed with Krum, although she was rather confused by his game-losing snitch catch. She searched for him again amongst the room full of students and finally caught sight of him - the Durmstrang visitors had sat at an extended section of the Hufflepuff table. Facing her, although he was distracted by conversation with his schoolmates, Hermione was able to get a better look at the boy. Dark eyes and pronounced features suited him well and were only amplified by broad shoulders and muscular arms. Despite most of her time being spent around Harry, Ron, and the other Wesley boys, Hermione had never really seen a boy - no, a man - like this before. He sent shivers down her spine without even doing anything.

"Pie, Hermione? Would you like a slice of pie?" Hermione was thrown out of her stare-filled reverie as Neville nudged her and offered her some dessert. She accepted, smiling widely at the boy, before peeking at Viktor once again. Looking up through thick lashes, Hermione made direct eye contact with the Bulgarian, holding her breath like a fearful animal. She wanted to look away but couldn't, although she wasn't sure what was making her feel so nervous. As she looked on, Viktor rubbed the back of his neck self consciously and smiled at Hermione once again. This time she smiled back, her magically-straight teeth gleaming in the candle light. She looked down, then back up at Viktor, giggling slightly when she saw him still looking. She continued her dessert much the same, breaking up conversation with Ron, Harry, Neville, and Ginny with moments of nervous eye contact and grinning with Viktor Krum.

When most of the students had finished their meals, Dumbledore rose and dismissed them all back to their common rooms, sending their visitors to their charmed traveling dormitories. As Hermione stepped out of the Great Hall with her Gryffindor friends, she heard someone clear their throat behind her. Spinning around, she almost lost her balance but was caught by the elbow by a strong, large hand. When she gained her composure, she looked up and was met with the same dark eyes she had been meeting all night - the eyes of Viktor Krum. She let out an undignified squeak as he released her, clicked his heels together, and bowed slightly towards her.

"You have the most radiant smile, I could not go the evening without introducing myself. My name is Viktor Krum."

She was momentarily entranced by the deep voice of the boy standing in front of her before she remembered her manners. "I'm Her…Hermione Granger. It's nice to meet you, Viktor Krum." He smiled brightly at her and she couldn't help but return the gesture, her insecurity melting away under his view.

"I'm off with my friends for the evening, but I find myself wishing to enjoy your company. May I join you for breakfast, Hermione Granger?"

Goosebumps covered her body at the sound of her name rolling out of his mouth, and she nodded quickly, feeling suddenly shy again. Viktor bowed once more and wished her a good night, walking towards the castle entrance with a few of his fellow classmates. Hermione stood there stunned for a moment before she looked around, noticing that every eye in the hallway was on her. She looked at Harry and Ron who both seemed to have dropped their jaws all the way to the floor.

"Well, let's go then. No point in standing around in the hallway. We should start towards the common room…" she trailed off as she looked down sheepishly and moved towards the staircase and Gryffindor tower.

They walked in silence, the sound of their shoes echoing off the walls, until finally Ron blurted out "What was that about, Hermione?!"

She stopped and looked at the redhead, eyes wide. "I…I don't know!" She squealed. "He looked at me when he came in, and then he kept looking at me from his table at dinner, and then…then…I don't know! He just came over! You heard just as much as I did, Ronald!"

He humphed dramatically and continued down the hallway, following Neville in through the Fat Lady's portrait. "He's just jealous" whispered Ginny as they followed the boys into the common room. "Viktor Krum is his favorite seeker, of course. I think he would cry with happiness if he even looked at him, you know? So to see him talking to you, Hermione…"

Hermione looked at her friend and laughed suddenly. "Ginny, I don't even know him! He just came over, and, well, I don't know! There is no reason for Ronald to be jealous. I'm sure they were just tasked with building relationships with other students, students from the other schools. Viktor is just doing his duty, and I am sure we will see very little of him after breakfast tomorrow." She nodded her head, as if to assure herself just as much as Ginny, and then wished her friends goodnight. She trudged up the stairs to her dormitory, seeing the sign on the door changed to "Fourth Year Girls." She opened it and crept inside, glad to see that it was empty aside from Crookshanks curled up on her bed. She was excited to see her roommates after the long summer away, but was glad that she didn't have to answer any questions about Viktor Krum, as she was sure news of their interaction had spread through the school already. Anyways, she wouldn't even know what to say!

Hermione changed into her most comfortable pajamas and curled up in bed with her orange tabby cat, closing the curtains around the four-poster tightly. Sleep found her quickly after a long and overwhelming day, and she had a night of comfortable dreams all including a set of dark, dreamy eyes.
